Het is een prachtig boek met mooie kleurige tekening. Het is een boek die je met je eigen woorden kan vertellen of door de kinderen laten vertellen. Er valt heel wat te zien!

Een heerlijk, prachtig, kleurrijk prentenboek zonder woorden over een vader, een dochter, en hun hond die schipbreuk lijden en op een schildpad terechtkomen. We zien de seizoenen veranderen, we zien de verschillende landen waar de schildpad langszwemt. Het was gewoonweg té mooi. En ook leuk dat het huisje dat dit duo maken op de schildpad steeds mooier en groter wordt. Eerst is het nog een hutje, maar daarna is het een huisje. En het einde, tja, daar moest ik toch even een traantje voor laten. Wat lief, wat mooi! Een aanrader. Ik weet zeker dat kinderen het ook machtig gaan vinden, en als ouder kun je zelf het verhaal vertellen, of gewoon de platen voor zich laten spreken.

Met 'Eiland' bewijst Mark Janssen dat hij geen tekst nodig heeft om een dynamisch en rijkgeschakeerd verhaal te vertellen.

This is an outstandingly beautiful picture book. I was giving a reading today, with a bunch of other authors - it being National Flash Fiction Day in NZ - and the event was in a bookshop and I got there early to browse. And I saw this, and I didn't read it really because it's a wordless picture book, but I gaped at it from beginning to end and when I was finished I put it back on the shelf for all of three seconds before snatching it back, because I simply couldn't bear the idea of going home without it.
It's a very simple story. A girl, her dad, and their dog are shipwrecked on an island which is not an island (see cover). The giant turtle takes pity on them, supporting them until they come across a boat that can rescue them. It's the start of a beautiful friendship and so on, but I don't even care about that so much when the illustrations are this astonishing. They're filled with colour and wonder and are just so immediately delightful the whole thing is impossible to resist.

This wordless picture book follows a castaway family, and the giant turtle upon whose back they are stranded. Be aware that there is no plot in the traditional sense; This is really just a set of beautiful pictures that act as snapshots from the turtles journey. I don't know what to say other than I love it! The art is large, lush and evocative; every page was a visual treat.
I only have one caveat...I am a librarians who runs a pre-school storytime session at our Library, and I look at every picture book through the lens of reading it to our group. Unfortunately I don't know that I would use island. This is the sort book where you want to linger on each page, which might not be as easy to appreciate with a larger group of kids. I just have other books (that have a more traditional story and flow) that are more likely for me to bring out. But I am keeping it at 5 stars as I personally love this one.

An illustrated story where the image is a story open to the imagination of each little reader. Beautiful illustrations that tell us both about the beauty of nature and about the small part of it that we are as human beings who inhabit it, among many other things.

Prime Day fırsatlarında 136 liraya satılan bu kitabı Haziran 2024'de 140 liraya almışım. İçinde bulunduğumuz ekonomik şerait içinde ister istemez kitabı ödediğim para ile değerlendirmek zorunda kalıyorum. Kitabın yazarı 'Bir Aslan İstiyorum' kitabını resimleyen Mark Janssen. O kitap içinde kitaplığınızda olmasa da olur demiştim ve bu kitap hakkında da aynısını düşünüyorum. Sophie ile babası, bir deniz kazasının ardından kendilerini bir adada buluyorlar. Bir kaplumbağanın kabuğu üstünde olduklarını hayal bile edemiyorlar. Kaplumbağa da onlar kurtuluncaya kadar kımıldamıyor. Resimler çok canlı ama her sayfada en fazla 8-10 kelimeden oluşan ikişer tane cümle var. Bu kadar büyük boyutlarda olan ve ciltli bir kitaptan insan daha fazlasını bekliyor açıkçası.

A ilustração do livro é muito boa, apelativa, podendo-se trabalhar a sensbilidade estética e artistica. O texto está com letras grandes o que facilita a leitura para quem ainda estar a dar os primeiros passos nela. Tem muito presente o ritmo da natureza, a sua generosidade e fomenta o respeito pela mesma. No âmbito do perfil do aluno trabalha a Desenvolvimento pessoal, bem como o bem-estar, saúde e ambiente.

Het is een kort boekje, maar wel erg mooi. De illustraties zijn prachtig en het uitgebeelde verhaal ook. Met de schildpad als eiland die 2 mensen en hond die in een schipbreuk kwamen meeneemt, ze dingen/dieren/van alles laat zien en ze uiteindelijk redt en bij een boot met andere mensen weer veilig achterlaat.

(4) Une famille fait naufrage et se réfugie sur un rocher qui est en fait une tortue. Et c’est un voyage plein de couleurs et de richesse qu’ils vivront sur son dos. Un album très court et qui pourtant saisit le lecteur dès les premiers instants.
