Looking for You

Rate this book
It is the duty of the lifesworn to devote their lives to protecting, serving, and guiding those to whom they're sworn. The best of them serve one master for their entire lives. Though Omar has only ever wanted to be listed amongst those greats, he instead loses his first master to illness, his second to age, and is rejected by subsequent potentials.

When a foreign woman, Lady Astira, arrives unexpectedly in Morentia in the dead of night, she brings dire news: her betrothed, Lord Symaia, has been kidnapped. Without him and the soldiers who follow him, Princess Shanna will be missing a significant part of her army in the coming war against her stepfather.

Symaia is also an old friend of Omar's, and so he is assigned the task of finding, rescuing, and protecting Symaia. If Omar fails in his mission, lives and kingdoms will be lost. If he succeeds, he must watch as the man he's always loved marries the woman he's quickly falling in love with.

Fantastic end to the series

4 ⭐️

Great end to the series which tied up all the loose ends from the previous books while giving us Omar’s story. Omar is probably my favourite character of the series and it was great to see him connect first with Astira and then reconnect with Symaia.
I liked that Omar made mistakes and even though he thought his dreams were all over he still refused to leave Astira and Symaia to their fate, he did everything that was required expecting nothing in return.

Wonderful, enchanting and exciting tale of loyalty and lifesworn love. . .

As with all of Megan Derr's books, this story's plot kept me enthralled. When Omar wasn't busy kicking butt trying to win the war singlehandedly for Princess Shanna and protect them save his lifesworn, Symaia, I was kept on the edge of my seat with the intrigue and assassins that surrounded Omar. He seemed to attract them, and fortunately for Astira, Symaia's fiancee, Omar was more than capable of keeping her safe. Anyway, Derr's meticulous and concise descriptions and details of Omar's one-man warfare and attention to detail regarding dress, styles, and weaponry are matchless. She has an exceptional writing technique and distinctive flair that are perfect for her tales of flights of fancy or her own brand of originality as it pertains to timeless accounts of yore. Five solid stars for this final book and the series.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed in this one. Overall it was really just kinda meh. I enjoyed it more for being the conclusion to the series than because I really felt the connection between the characters. The other two books in the series developed the relationships between the lifesworn so much better than this book did. I liked Omar for his devotion and how committed to helping people he was, but I didn't really feel like I got a chance to know him with either of his charges as he spent a good portion of this book alone with them captured. Of course their threesome was expected because of the series, but this was the least developed to me.

Still I'm happy to get to the end and to have Shanna and her men winning back her throne with the help of all her friends including Omar and his two charges.

I’ve Been Searching For So Long…

Lifesworn3

The culmination!

Omar was born a farm boy, but he had a dream - of protecting and helping people. He took advantage of every opportunity afforded him to learn and excel, inspite of the derogatory language of those around him.

His first two placements were with old men, who died of natural causes. But, he had ignored the fact that they were both politically important men, because there hadn’t been much consistant demand for his skills.

That all changes when Lady Astira comes looking for his help. Omar is deputized to find and recover his best friend, and serve as Symiara’s lifesworn if they both are amenable to that. The posibility of having a place…beyond words, beyond hope. But not beyond his skills - and that’s where things start to get really interesting.

Penlington had mad abilities and training, which were belied by his foppish ways. Omar is talented, but unassuming, and quite the strategist. That made both men very interesting, and brought depth to thier characters.

I enjoyed this series.

I normally love Megan Derr's worldbuilding and her books, but I really was not into this one. There was something strangely vague and cursory about it, and the characters felt wooden. I read it just a few hours ago and have already forgotten character names.

It felt like the book should have been two or three times as long as it is; like every scene had been drastically shortened. The ending battle was anticlimactic, after three books that at least tangentially featured Shanna's quest to retake her throne.

The book could have used stronger editing as well. I noticed numerous distracting typos.

Disappointing and too short to be fully effective.

My poor Omar deserves his happy ending. He does the right thing even through such painful circumstances. I got pretty teary in parts, which to be fair is not super unusual for me, but this whole story is pretty emotional.

As the final in the series, we got the conclusion of Shanna's end game, which is to say its all in the background, but I'm honestly fatigued enough with her plot archetype that seeing everything from Omar's perspective was more than enough excitement and closure.

This enjoyable story is a MMF threesome set in a historical fantasy universe that feels fleshed out. I liked all three of the characters in the threesome. The main character was a mature man and had a lot of action scenes to make the plot move forward. Length is 97 pages.

I really liked the conclusion of the series.
I’m not entirely sure about the threesome in this book. It felt lacking in the relationship portion of the book.
