As ridiculous as the first book was, this one really took the cake. Wow, I think, is the best word to describe it.
There's probably going to be some major spoilers in this review, so if you don't want to know, don't read any further.
At the end of the first book, Callie found out about Devil's betrayal and left him. As we're used to from her, she's got everything prepared to manage this situation with a level head, like most 18 year olds do when getting a divorce while also pregnant.
The most ridiculous thing about this book (although this is a very debatable subject) is the insta-love. I'm a bit of a fan of insta love, I have to admit (Alexa Riley and such), but in this case, it's not only unbelievable, it's laughable. When you've fallen in and out of love with three different people over the course of two months (and you're 18), it's kind of difficult to believe any of it. Coupled with the writing style that evokes no emotion, just like in the first book, the only reaction I could have when she met her third love was an extra-big eye-roll. And not only does she fall in love at the drop of a hat, both she also falls out of love in approx. 2 to 3 days, if not less in some cases.
Insta-love in these books doesn't apply just to the heroine and potential love interests. Oh no, she loves her 'new grandma' (i.e. a woman she met) in a matter of days, and vice versa. Absolutely everyone loves Callie on sight, especially if they have a penis. They all love her like a father/uncle/brother/lover. And I do mean all.
Callie turns into an even more ridiculous character in this book (sorry I keep using 'ridiculous', but there's just no other better fitting word). She orders everyone around (keep in mind these are motorcycle clubs), including MC presidents that she's just met.
The useless dialogue seems to be at least as bad as in the first book, if not worse. Here's a short sample, so you can get an idea of the, you've guessed it, ridiculousness:
"'Then you're not Mase?' Dra has mistaken his identity. He's got Jeb mixed up with Mase."
It's absolutely amazing, I think, how in less than 1 and a half lines, the author has managed to tell us the exact same thing in three different ways. Even though it was already completely clear from context what was happening.
The relationship between Callie and Dra was as boring as her relationship with Devil, the only difference being that Dra was the only okay guy out of all 3 love interests, who never lied or cheated.
Callie also shows some extreme levels of stupidity in this book. This woman is pregnant and she jumps in front of a bullet to save someone she barely knows, while pregnant. I'm sorry, but that doesn't make her sound brave, or selfless, more like stupid and kind of selfish. Also, I've noticed how every time this girl is shot in these 2 books, her only issue seems to be concussions. The gun shot wounds are never really a problem, the doctors only want tot keep her for observation because of her concussions. It's mind boggling.
Then there's the whole Dra vs. Devil fiasco. She chooses Dra, and here come the SPOILERS, says she's no longer in love with Devil and never going to take him back (and I mean, yeah, good decision, what he did and planned to do shows he has a real shitty character) and when she gives birth, she finds out Dra died (which was very clear would happen at a particular point in the book). I think she had only just finished birthing her child, holding him when she finds out. And it's not just him who dies, but also her new grandma (you know, the one she loved like a grandmother the minute they met?), and some other guy who she probably loved as well. And how does she react? She tells Devil to get everyone in her hospital room so she can tell them exactly how they're going to get revenge. Close to 0 emotions during her speech and inner thoughts. She orders all the MC presidents and other members and tells them her plans of revenge, goes to the funeral, and then sets up explosions and kills everyone who killed her 'family'. In a matter of a few pages she's done with the love of her life, Dra.
6 months later or so, out of nowhere, and again with 0 emotion, she just decides to get back with Devil. Even though none of the issues she had with him were really addressed. The most anticlimactic reunion I think I've ever, ever read.
So now, just to make a quick recap on Callie's first year as an adult (in no particular order)
