In the final book in the Eidel's Story series the children of Holocaust survivors Eidel and Dovid Levi have grown to adulthood. They each face hard trials and tribulations of their own, many of which stem from growing up as children of Holocaust survivors. Haley is a peacemaker who yearns to please even at the expense of her own happiness. Abby is an angry rebel on the road to self-destruction. And, Mark, Dovid’s only son, carries a heavy burden of guilt and secrets. He wants to please his father, but he cannot. Each of the Levi children must find a way to navigate their world while accepting that the lessons they have learned from the parents, both good and bad, have shaped them into the people they are destined to become.
I’m an American writer of Jewish and Romany decent. I write Historical Fiction and Historical Romance, most of which is set during the holocaust. Although I never discount the horrors of the time period, the main focus of my work is on ordinary people who prove to be strong heroic characters in unfathomable circumstances.
Another Generation: Book Four in the I AM Proud To Be A Jew Series which is by Roberta Kagan. This series of fiction stories of Holocaust survivors is wonderful. It gives a picture of what happened in the lives of those who had already gone through the worst of times. Dovid, Eidel, Ida, and Harry had lived through the Holocaust and come to Chicago to make their lives. Dovid and Eidel had three children, Mark, Halel, and Abby. This final book of the series deals with the three children. Abby was on the run to find something, although she was not finding what she is looking for. She had never felt at home with her family; but was always on the outside. Would she ever find happiness? Halel was following the path set down by her parents and others. She was getting married to Simon. It didn’t seem to matter that she didn’t really love him; it was what she was to do next. She had her brother at the wedding; but was hurt to find that Abby didn’t come. Would her life be all she thought it would be? Mark was living his life in New York City. He was a playwright who wasn’t quite making it. He was also living a lie. He hadn’t told his parents that he was gay and was living in a permanent arrangement with John. In fact, John was insisting he tell his parents. What will happen when he tells his Father? Drama surrounds the family as they live out their lives. The book is engaging and fun to read. I just wish it wasn’t the last in the series.
In continuation of the series this book starts with the estranged child of Eidel and Dovid. Throughout the book there is understanding, love, forgiveness and a bonding of this family and its members. What a great ending to the series. I loved it and all of Roberta Kagan's books. I would definitely recommend this book and the series.
It was a great series 1-4, it shows there is and always be people who, hate you because of different religions and how it can wreck, your life. I LOVE THE BOOK AND,IT REALLY KEPT ME QUESSIMG,.IT WENT FROM GERMANY TO 9,11. THE TWO,BOOKS THAT ARE MY FAVORTIE ARENALL MY LOVE DERICH AND THE GYSPY BOOK,BECAUSE IT SHOWS IF YOU ARE REALLY IN,LOVE WITH SOMEONE RELIGION SHOUD NOT ENTER IN TO IT.I AM CATHOLIC AND MY HUSBAND IS PROTANT ANDMWE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM.
This was the worst book I have read by this author. It was filled with errors in the editing, including mixing up characters names. As the story starts to wrap up it includes some details re 9/11. There were so many inaccuracies in timeline of the events I wondered if the author was not willing to at least look up what and when happened starting the morning of 9/11 and the week after. vice.. Stop at the end of Book 3 in this series.
This book had the opportunity to be a good story, what ruined it for me was the poor editing. Abby and Haley, two very different sisters treated very differently by their mother were often times called by the wrong name. Abby being identified as Haley. It happened so often it really ruined this book for me.
Fantastic series. Ms. Kagan has zeroed in on the plight of the pressuring the past century. Her words bring back so many memories and is important that the generations after 1950 learn the truth!!
I didn't like the Gay life style ,as submitted in this book. I have loved r all of her books in the. Past. I have read at least 10 . to make the father as old fashioned was not right.
A finale worthy of five stars! Roberta Kagan writes with such passion and her characters are so real. She merges in real life events that we can all relate too. I thoroughly enjoyed this journey with this wonderful family!
This author is incredible! I can’t put down any of her books/series! Very well written, especially in reference to the Holocaust, a subject that I have been reading about for 25 out of my 35 years!
**Warning: this text may contain spoilers** This was the end of a four book series. I found with this being the last I read. This was even more important to me than the others. I didn't want the series to end.
