Anthologies, like zombie movies are often a disappointment of uneven and unbelievable entertainment, but Treasured Chests refreshingly breaks the mold. I was entertained, horrified and/or disgusted by each and every story, leaving a great big bloody smile on my face.
Reviewing this book is very difficult. If it weren't for the fact that the stories collected within were donated to raise money for breast cancer, I would have given this one star. They were though, so I'm giving it three stars. I can't expect great editing from a book made by volunteers for charity. That being said, I think the contributing authors could have proofread their works. Maybe ran a spellcheck on Word. Anything. Words are missing from sentences, there are random capitalizations everywhere, comma splices galore, incomplete sentences, subject-verb disagreement...and of course, we can't forget the dreaded alot. These authors aren't fans of Allie Brosh, clearly. Most of these stories were dreadful. I guess because of the breast cancer theme, several focus heavily on boobs. Most of the ones that do I had trouble figuring out if the authors were trying to be satirical toward the horror genre's typical portrayal of women or if they were just creepy dude bros. Can't help but lean towards the latter. If they were going for satire, they missed the mark. If you're a horror fan looking to help a good cause, pick this up. If you're looking for a more professional anthology of zombie stories though, consider getting The Living Dead from Night Shade Books to go with it.
Treasured Chests: A Zombie Anthology (Kindle Edition) Dec 1 2017 Something for everyone.
I won a copy of this book in a competition in the Zombie book of the month club. So many stories by some of the best Authors in the zombie and horror genre. Several new to me, others familiar. All for a good cause, "Breast Cancer Care in England & Wales." The thread that ties all the stories together are mammary glands, understandable with the benefiting charity. A vast verity of stories told in many voices and styles. Some better than others. Worth the cost of the book and for a good cause. I see many big up and coming new Authors who are going to set fire to the genre in yrs to come. Well done to all.
What a awesome anthology by some of the best horror authors today. A must read for anyone who wants to be horrified, terrified or petrified. I have read many of the authors that contributed to this book but I have now found some new authors. A bonus reason to buy this book besides reading great stories is that all proceeds go to Breast Cancer Care in England and Wales. BUY THIS BOOK! You will not be disappointed.
What a great collection of Zombie short stories from some amazing writers. I loved the concept of Marc Moore’s story as well as the perception of a child in Claire C Riley’s tale and the comic strip from Stan Yan and Devon C Ford’s entry really could do with an entire novel... But all stories were simply fantastic Highly recommended.
Well lets be honest I didn't finish reading, so sorry authors at the end of the book, I've stopped my Kindle Unlimited subscription temporarily so this book disappeared and I'm so uninterested in the stories I dont feel a need to finish it at any point.
Treasured Chests is a great zombie Anthology that is for a good cause. All royalties from the sale of this book are to be donated to the Charity Breast Cancer Care registry in England and Wales.
This book has a great lineup of contributors as well as variety of types of stories. Every story is worth the price of the book on their own. Each author definitely contributes in a productive way.
Many times in Anthologies, there is one or 2 stories that fall flat for me. They are boring or just don’t interest me. That does not occur in Treasured Chests. Every single story is interesting and unique in its own way. I love it when I like every story within an anthology since it is so rare.
Overall, this is a great anthology that is filled with awesome stories by amazing authors. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to delve into the world of zombies while possibly finding new to them authors.
