An outlaw named Dingo Whaley (quick aside - awesome name) and his team of bandits hold up a stagecoach. Two wandering friends, Matt Bodine and Sam Two Wolves, are drifting cowboys working these plains who arrive at the scene just after the bandits leave. The bad guy Dingo is a 300-pound fat jerk who takes offense when jokes are made about his weight.
We get weaving narratives from Dingo's crew looking for bank heists and other general thievery and these "blood brothers" Matt and Sam (this is the 8th in the "Blood Bond" series) who arrive in San Angelo and are enlisted to help the Texas Rangers and their old friend Josiah Finch hunt down this outlaw crew, which is eventually heading for Mexico to escape justice. This Mexican complication is a big (and boring) part of the story as our two heroes have to fight the administrative state trying to keep them from pursuing the outlaws, who are partners with a Mexican politician behind the scenes.
Verdict: "San Angelo Showdown" (1994) is a mostly typical Johnstone western, at times funny and action-packed but more often uninteresting, the plot dialogue-driven by uninteresting dialogue, with standard stereotypical characters and tropey situations.

Do what's right.
Another great story with Matt and Sam. Even though they crossed the border, the brothers still made good decisions on what was right

Another good western book in this series. I am just mowing right through them. The second time that they put on a Texas Ranger star. has good seriousness and humor. Traditional Western.

just classic blood bond series that I enjoy. Language is clean and story is good. easy to follow and lots of jokes and matt and sam just doing their thing. Great book.

Another excellent story in the Blood Bond series with Sam Two Wolves and Matt Bodine. Bill's one of the best writing about 'Gunfighters' in the Old West. His books are all excellent, but the last few years with J.A. as co-author just seems like they've published everything started by Bill and the quality in the writing, just isn't their anymore.

Another good western series by Johnstone. This one follows the adventures of two brothers as they travel the old west. Recommended
