Mike Gomes is an Amazon #1 best-selling author, who loves writing fast paced, action packed novels for Adults. His desire has always been to create fun, page turning books that lets readers slip away into another world. Mike’s gritty action-thrillers are so addictive, you will be swept up and taken on many rollercoaster journeys around the globe.
Mike was born in Massachusetts, however a passion for travel has seen him explore the world, including visits to the cities of London, Paris, Rome and Munich to name a few. Mike lives with his wife and four children just outside of Boston. He enjoys fishing, coaching sports and watching some of his favourite teams, including Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins.
An OK if predictable story but without a doubt the most poorly edited or proof-read book I've ever read. Seems to have been hastily written and rushed to print (or e-publication) without any kind of checking at all. Typos, spelling errors, grammatical errors, repetition and even, in a couple of places, forgetting how many members are in the 3 man team and referring to the 4 men.
Interesting that the description on Goodreads starts with "Rouge judges." Should that be "rogue" or are the judges really red or wearing makeup? Oh, and 2 different spellings of the villain's name, Legrand & Lagrand. Pretty much par for the course all the way through this poorly written book though.
It does make me wonder how this novella has managed to get so many 4-5 star reviews. Did anyone else actually read it?
Gerard LeGrand is charged with human trafficking but gets off. The judges aren’t happy with this outcome and form a different committee to make sure the punishment fits the crime. Outstanding as always.
I found "The System" a predictable and badly written book. Not to speak of the typing and grammatical errors. Come on Mike, proof read your book and you'll realize that you needed to change a few things.
In 1966, evils are afoot. Selfish crimes committed for fame and riches are par for the course and, like the present day, many of these criminals escape punishment by the legal system. In The System, Mike Gomes explores the idea of "true" fairness, what some might call vigilante justice, by means of two judges and their grizzled, military partners.
Opening with a run-on sentence, The System's first line promised that a smooth and easy read was nowhere in my future. Just as a few other reviewers have stated, The System is undoubtedly the sloppiest book I have ever seen published--a copy editor's nightmare.
I can't count on both hands the number of times I almost gave up on the story entirely due to the numerous sloppy spellings, punctuation flops, continuity errors, and use of passive voice. The bland dialogue and predictable, hollow plot offered little redemption, but I wanted to give the book a chance. Gomes makes some interesting moral points in his storytelling, and that alone kept me hoping for an unsuspected twist that would challenge my own values.
I was much too optimistic.
In summary, this concept could have been written in an enticing, thought-provoking way. Unfortunately, this narrative is quite the opposite. I also wonder if Gomes used speech-to-text to write this manuscript. Either way, there is little excuse for the uninspired narration and unrealistic dialogue.
A prelude to a new series perhaps. A judge suggests a different court system where the punishment does fit the crime and offenders cannot get off on a technicality. Not just one judge making the decision, a group, a rogue, international secret court. How will “the System work” ? Can it be fair and impartial and what type of criminal will it punish? A riveting new book from the author of the “Falau series” and though fiction calls into question the ethics of such acts. , and at the same time makes us wonder about our present system. Characters are well drawn and believable and the first one caught is one whom you would like to throw into jail with no way of getting out. Read this book and be drawn into a ride you won’t want to get off from.
The System Will Get You (Disclaimer: I was provided an Advanced Reader’s Copy of the book. I read it and decided to provide my honest review.) The System by Mike Gomes is a suspenseful thriller and page-turner which made the book an enjoyable read. Even though this was a novella, the author still invested in world and character building to substantiate the storyline. However, I think given the size of the content and this being a novella the storyline was a bit to chew off. Overall, the System is an easy, one- day read filled with intrigue, collusion, action, adventure, mystery and much, much, much more, it’s a downright thriller. My RECOMMECOMENTION is to get the book! I did! -Tex.
Another spectacular read by Mike Gomes! You can easily devour this quick read in one sitting, and besides that, once you start it, you won't be able to put it down. Never a spoiler in my reviews, just know that this fine as a standalone, although once you read this you'll want to go back and read any other of Mike Gomes' books that you may have missed or inadvertently overlooked. Strong writing, gripping story, tells the tale good and bad guys alike. Fast paced thriller that makes you question if justice really exists. Read the book(s) and find out.
kindle unlimited KEEP IN MIND used to his Young Adventurers books & not particulary a 'fan' of this type of genre BUT if YOU are then it should be showing you a 5.
Rouge judges. A human trafficker. Will justice be served?
There is something nefarious going on in 1966 Monte Carlo. The extravagant casino owner Gerard Legrand has been charged with human trafficking. But coincidentally all the evidence is destroyed. Unable to accept the ruling two judges join together with a team of ex-military special services men to bring Lagrand to justice by any means necessary.
The system is a fast paced suspense about justice that you won’t be able put down. When the justice system fails and even the lawmakers know that people are getting away with horrific crimes there is only one more thing to do. Create their own “system” that will capture, try, and punish the most terrible people there are. A five star must read! I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Mike Gomes has done it again. This is a great read, you will not want to put it down. Gerard Legrand is accused of many crimes. The evidence is always lost and he cannot be convicted. A group judges decide to take matters into their own hands. They hire Anthony Rizzo, who has special skills to help bring criminals to justice.
This is a great book if you like wrongs being righted and who doesn't. A small group who decide to reform "The System". I will say no more about the book's content but do yourself a favor, read a good book that, hopefully, is just the start of what should be a series.
Loved this book! Great characters, great premise in making the playing field of the justice system level for all players despite how much money you have or despite your family name. Non-stop action.
The beginning. A great novella giving the readers a glimpse of how the Judges came about. Looking forward to 'meeting' the new players and how Tyler got involved.
I have never read a book like this before it was a good and interesting book the only thing I didn't like about it it was it was to short and didn't end right
Two prominent but rogue judges, three retired military men and The System to give justice to those who deserve it. Enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. Interesting characters with room for growth.
