Neelam Ahmed Bashir has some good short story collections on her credit and I did expected a lot from her first novel. The book was based on 9/11 issue and subsequent impact on Pakistani Muslims living in USA and therefore had a promising outline as very few books (novels) have been written in Urdu on this subject. The books written in English by Pakistani writers most of the time give one sided picture and therefore writer like Neelam Ahmed Bashir could be a good choice to look for alternate perspective.

The first 100 pages when story revolved around the period prior to and till happening of 9/11 were gripping and well handled and deserve 5 stars. This part beautifully conveyed issues of Pakistani Muslims living in USA to survive in different culture and values when their children have adapted life style where they are born. There are some good observations about generation gap, individuality, privacy and the extent of involvement a parent can have in his / her children life in western society.

The remaining 2/3 part of the book is quite disappointing as it lacks depth and seems a script of run of the mill 1980s Bollywood / Lollywood flick like 'Hong Kong ke Sholay', "Manila ki Bijliyan' (Though I haven't seen these movies. I just watched one such movies based on Salman Rushdie incident and it was ridiculous). This part of the novel is all about love triangle and revenge. In some parts, the writer also included some situations which are quite similar to song sequences in movies.
