A nice light hearted read which is what I was looking for. I've read many stories where the person goes back in time to Medieval Times and it's been all blood and gore and battles. Not here. This is a story about people, society and everyday living in a castle. It's a love story without being over the top. It started off great with a marvelous story of a girl who is heartbroken and quite estranged from her family and gets a chance to go back in time to have 'a break' and another look at life. From the very beginning she is betrothed and has to decide if this is what she wants or if she wants to return home. It's almost straight forward from there until about three quarters of the way into the book. Then there's a twist, which I wasn't quite happy about but came around to the idea of. The people we meet are by and large very likable and we don't have any of that 'angst for the sake of it moments' which drive me mad. A nice feel good story which won't tax your brain cells.
Tudo nesse livro me encantou e me tornou mais apaixonada pela série.. (🤣🤣🤣) Happy reading, and until the next reading... 🥰😘😘
I think this has got to be my favourite Pocket Watch story yet, it's heartbreaking as well as uplifting, I cried tears, and I mean, tears running down my face tears, but not all of them were sad, they were happy too.
Cassie is grief stricken over the passing of her boyfriend when she is offered the pocket watch from our favourite spirit, Gertrude. She is told that normaly there is a reason for the exchange of souls through the watch, however this time this is merely a gift because she wants her to have it, as Cassie always thinks of others first, and essentially, taken for granted. She swaps with Claire Morrison who was raised in an Abbey and has to leave because her brother, Col, the Laird was seeking an alliance with Clan Ranald through a betrothal with her and Travis, Laird Ranald's eldest son, and though she doesn't want it, she is asked to get to know him and then decide if it's acceptable or she can then take vows if it's not, but she makes another choice of running away and hiding in the forest which would have lead to a terrible fate, and so Cassie accepts the exchange if only to avert the death awaiting Claire. And so Cassie joins the Ranald Clan as a guest, however Travis is not pleased, he does not want to marry, he loves another.
That's were I'm ending, I couldn't put it down, I was hooked from the beginning and I couldn't stop turning the pages. Anyone who as ever read stories from Ceci Giltenan will be pleased to see some familiar names which makes it more real, I know I was, it makes it more like a family tale.
I received a copy and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion
Tavish Ranald, Laird Ranald's heir has to marry. But he really isn't ready becuase he loves someone he can never have. How is he supposed to marry his father's choice of a bride Claire Morrision, when another holds his heart and always will.
Cassandra Wren Calloway is a very wealthy American heiress who would rather just be a free spirited collage student who goes by Cassie Wren. But when she losses her soulmate Tom both her spirit and her heart are broken and she is not sure how or if she can move on.
Then Gertrude, an immortal spirit, offers Cassie the opportunity to begin healing by spending sixty days in another time, as another person. Cassie jumps at this wonderful chance and wakes as Claire Morrison, in fourteenth century Scotland, and embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.
The only problem is Tavish Ranald. Will Cassie stay the 60 days or will she decide to go home and can this trip back in time help heal her broken spirit and heart?
Ceci Giltenan is an incredibly gifted writer and this story blew me away. I'm my opinion it's the best book yet. Get your tissues ready becuase this one hits home.
I really enjoyed this book from the beginning, up until they had their talk. I was expecting a little more drama going into play when Claire finally revealed her secret. The story kinda fell flat right there. Another thing was, I didn't see much of a connection between Tavish and Claire that would lead them to be madly in love. I did enjoy when they did have interactions together, but I feel there was too much going on with his family, that there wasn't enough time to give to Tavish and Claire. By the time you know it, they're deeply in love, but I just didn't really see anything leading up to it. The story was also very predictable. Not far into the book, I already saw what the outcome would be, but it was still nice to read all the details leading up to them ending up together. They were both very likeable and sweet, so it was great to see their ending.
Cassie Wren has lost the love of her heart to cancer. When Gertrude offers Cassie the pocket watch, she sees it as a chance to take time to heal from her loss. In Scotland in the 1200s she visits the Ranald family and meets Tavish. Cassie has a chance to love a little and to fall in love, but Tavish has a lost love of his own and he isn't so sure about finding new love. It all works out in the end.
Time travel with a twist. One does not physically travel to another time, instead there is a trading of souls. Gertrude gives the pocket watch as a gift, but the true gift is transporting the recipient to another time and different circumstances. I have read all of the chronicles up to "The Gift.". Each book takes the reader to a different time. The Gift is the best Ceci has offered. It brings two heartbroken souls together with an unexpected twist.
This is another volume in the pocket watch chronicles, but if you think that we have established a 'pattern' according to which the story progresses, you underestimate the author. Yes, the heroine gets transported into the past, yes there is a very good looking man in the story, but I am not spoiling the surprise. Enjoy! I did.
A gift from Gertrude is always more then a simple sixty day time travel offering. Cassie and Tom discover that it was so much more. It was a leap of faith. Well thought out and very well written heart felt time travel romance. This story will even have you holding back a tear or two. Definitely needs to be at the top of your reading list.
**SPOILERS** A triumph my dear! I love the pocket watch chronicles and read this straight through. Once Tom revealed he was a time traveler the book was over. I would loved a scene of Cassie's family roasting in hell though.
I have read the other Pocket Watch Chronicles and loved them all. But this one was just the best! The twist in this one had me fooled but I was so glad when it all came about. What a lovely thoughtful romance! Can't wait for more!!
This book captured me. The Characters i fell in Love with. I could not read fast enough. I Love all the books in The Pocket Watch Chronicles. I was very surprised at the end.
Was a very heartfelt story and if only it could really happen.May be it could thru reincarnation. It was nice her family was able to use some of their wealth to help others.
Wow! I didn't see that coming! Ceci hit it out of the park with this one. The best one yet in the Pocket Watch Chronicles. They just keep getting better and better.
I simply can't say enough good things about this series, or this book.
I don't want to give anything away, but it all starts out with a young woman who is coping with loss and heartbreak. She is given the opportunity to travel back in time, and she seizes it. A love between her and a fourteenth-century Highlander grows, slowly. Toward the end of the tale, there is an AMAZING plot twist that had me literally cheering and crying.
This book was excellent. It balances romance, humor, angst, and a dash of history so beautifully. It's Ms. Giltenan's work at her finest, and certainly well worth a read or five. Ceci Giltenan just keeps getting better and better.
