— And "Grey" aliens who are not at all what we expected.
The enigmatic Greys have returned, bearing a host of stunning revelations regarding their role in Earth’s history, the Pelarans, and Humanity’s place in the cosmos.
The Pelaran Alliance has effectively disbanded, and Pelara itself is now dominated by the same world-shaping AI originally created to manage its own cultivation program. Armed with this new information, Terran Fleet Command must decide if coming to Pelara’s aid is worth risking a direct confrontation with the AI-controlled remnants of their once-mighty Alliance.
Griffin, openly declaring his allegiance to both TFC and the world he has helped to build, agrees to accompany the Grey ship Ethereal on a high-risk recruiting operation spanning thousands of light years. Their mission: enlist the help of enough Guardian spacecraft to put an end to the out-of-control, tyrannical AI before its forces can reach the Earth.
Captain Tom Prescott and the crew of TFS Fugitive, joined by allies both old and new, must reach Pelara and take the fight to the Alliance AI at the very center of its power. While in the Sol system, Admirals Patterson and Naftur fight a seemingly hopeless battle to save both Earth and Graca from certain destruction.
Born in 1969, four months before the first Apollo moon landing, Tori Harris grew up during the era of the original Star Wars movies and is a lifelong science fiction fan. During his early professional career, he was fortunate enough to briefly have the opportunity to fly jets in the U.S. Air Force, and is still a private pilot who loves to fly. Tori has always loved to read and now combines his love of classic naval fiction with military Sci-Fi when writing his own books. His favorite authors include Patrick O'Brian and Tom Clancy as well as more recent self-published authors like Michael Hicks, Ryk Brown, and Joshua Dalzelle. Tori lives in Tennessee with his beautiful wife, two beautiful daughters, and Bizkit, the best dog ever.
A fantastic close to a surprisingly good series. I stumbled onto this series about a year ago and was immediately hooked. Harris delivers a fresh take on First Contact and intra-galactic polities and diplomacy. Tight pacing and well-rounded characters make the creative and entertaining plot all the better. This is easily among the best new mil-scifi that I have read. If you enjoy Dalzelle, Douglas, Kennedy, or Ringo you will enjoy this. I plan on getting copies in dead-tree format ASAP, which I save only for the best stories I read. Give this series a try, you will not be dissaponted.
This entire series was great and the finale, book 5 was the best. There is great sci fi , great science, great action and great characters. Definitely worth reading the entire series from the beginning. I really hope that Tori Harris continues to develop this Universe.
This was a very good story. And I liked how the AI developed trough out the book. I would have liked to follow the characters we have gotten to know for some books now. There is still some good stories left untold and the character building can’t be finished. I’m always looking for some plausible reason for intelligent life forms sprouting up on any Sifi planet. I liked how this author solved it here. The desperate need to invent new tactics at every battle seems to slow down the pace and the page turning. Would I recommend this book to a friend? No, you need to be extremely interested in tactics and 3 dimensional war gaming to want to read it. If you are, this is for you. Ps! Not a stand alone book, previous books must be read to get som coherent story arch.
This series was an enjoyable read and told a memorable story. It had a novel twist on the Terrans-against-the-baddies-of-the-galaxy space opera, which made taking on the advanced aliens and punching above our weight neatly plausible.
The science and the combat were accurate and rational respectively. The characters were well enough realised and the author thankfully kept away from interpersonal relationship trivialities often used to pad out a storyline. The aliens encountered were not very alien - but the aforementioned twist offered, if not a reason for this, then perhaps an excuse.
This last book in the series unfortunately let the side down as it were. It seemed rushed and included too many 'in the nick of time's. I wonder if it may have been envisaged as two books but condensed into one.
This was an excellent series and I look forward to more from Mr Harris. I would like to be a little critical though. I really would like to see Less AI type tactics. I understand that technology is a huge key to dominance in a interstellar environment, but hit button marked battle option 1 is a little much. Even though I feel the tactics could use some refining, I feel this is still a 5 Star series. Mr Harris tells a great story with excellent characters that are down to earth people I could relate to. They have a devoted since of duty to others and still are able to maintain a since of humor that is not only relatable but also very funny and realistic. Great Series.
I have read all the other books in the series and really enjoyed them, this book was a bit disappointing. To be honest it was a struggle to read to the end as it was quite boring and unbelieveable. This was not a book that I would want to keep reading and not put down I could quite happily read another book while part way through this book. I gave it 4 stars because the series as a whole was very good and this last book tied everything up and finished the series.
A decent ending to this 5 set series of books. Overall it was enjoyable and definatley worth a read for any sci-fi space fans. As I have mentioned in the previous reviews the negatives of the book (and series) is a lack of any character development for any of the characters. Although the writing is great and the space battles are imaginative. I will say I was a little disappointed in how the last battle was concluded, but overall it was an enjoyable series.
★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will). ★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this. ★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad. ★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time? ★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.
If for whatever reason, I go back and reread a good book, I will change the rating to five-star because I read it again.
What an amazing series! I absolutely was addicted from moment one! This is an incredibly well written series with amazing characters and storyline! The characters were enthralling, and just suck you right into the story! My two favorite new characters, Rick and Miguel! I absolutely highly recommend checking out this series! You will love it!
I have enjoyed this series more than I expected. The character development is better than average and the wirting style is quite good. The Wek remind me of Larry Niven's Kzin from his short story "The Children's Hour" and the Roswellian "Greys" do inject some much appreciated comic relief. All and all I would recommend this series to anyone looking for above average space opera.
This is the fifth book in the Terran Fleet Command series, the tale of Captain Tom Prescott and the Terran Fleet Ship (TFS) Fugitive and his intrepid crew. The story is dominated by the interaction between various "almost sentient" artificial intelligence (AI) entities. TFS GUARDIAN is not quite up to the five star level of the previous books, but is still a strong four stars.
I enjoyed this series very much. I have to say that I find it hard to believe it can end at the point it did. I’ll see what happens when the promised stories in this timeline will show where the sabotage will go. Otherwise I recommend this series to anyone that loves military sci-fi. I’m an old Navy Vet and love shipboard sci-if.
I enjoyed this book as I have the previous ones. I like how we are introduced to a new race of protectors and how the original guardians become the bad guys. I am not sure why drew is introduced in the end. While I enjoyed the book, it didn't feel like the end of series book; it felt like more are coming. We need to resolve the Grey's.
The TFS Guardian along with the entire Terran Fleet Command Sagas' have been a great read. I do have one problem and that is calling a Master Sargent "Top". Top is a term that has been traditionally used to refer to a Command Sargent Major a term a great respect. Mt father was a TOP me I stayed in only three years and left a Master Sargent, not even close.
Loved it! I’m 😢 that it’s over 😢. This series is that kind that I mix with real life (I’m a, let my mind go kinda guy). Btw I’m one drink into this review. One of my favorite series, but fear that I will never find a better series 😢😢. If it’s possible please suggest books as good as this series and you will be appreciated from a far. Happy readings to all!
Harris appears to have taken seriously the challenge to make sci-fi light-hearted and funny. Imagine an alien who calls himself 'Rick.' Harris also starts with the myth of alien abduction. According to Harris, life on earth did not spring from evolutionary processes but we were planted here by progenitors from a very distant planet. Can anything else make this funny and enjoyable?
Absolutely great book. I could hardly put it down. There are a few curse words that kept it from getting a full five stars but still a great addition to sciense fiction and a book I recommend.
You get the sense that the author really let himself loose with this one. All sorts of ridiculous things happen, each sillier than the last, but it’s satisfying nonetheless.
Good level of tension and pace and I liked how it was all wrapped up as well as the little hook at the end. I did feel that the Grey's ended up being an overused Deus ex Machina
Story had more comedy than was needed which distracted from what should have been a good story.
Story was not close to the level of the previous stories. Too much of the story was wasted words. Should been as captivating as all of the previous 4 books.
It wraps up this story of Earth and it's Guardian Griffin, very nicely and in a very satisfying manner. Plus it does leave room to return to this universe without leaving the main story unfinished.
Tori Harris delivered an action packed conclusion to the Terran Fleet Saga. I think all series readers will enjoy it immensely, and the story is left open for return visits to this universe. I really hope we get to see what happens next..
Great series overall, with a nice potential for a few spin-offs to fill in some of the gaps. A fast pace read with all the bells and whistles of good science fiction, skin of the teeth escapes, ufo’s and a few greys thrown in.
Up there with Jack Campbell for the best in military SF
I love this series. It's a fun and enjoyable read. Good enough that I always dread finishing a book, knowing how long it will be until the next. Very much worth the money.
Takes you away from the mundane. Experience horrendous battles and meet aliens, while still having pizza in the oven. The loneliness of command and the brutality of war, with a glass of red and while knowing that Good Will Triumph!
