CHAPTER ONE Five years from now: the security of the internet has been totally destroyed. Secrets are no longer sent over the web, they're entrusted to armed couriers called "Ledger Men," like human punching-bag Jack McGinnis. He's got a gun in one hand and a briefcase handcuffed to the other. Danger lurks around every corner, and Jack has to watch his back—because he had a part in the cyber attack that changed the world. Get in on the ground floor of this new ongoing series and thrill as we slam Jack's fist into the faces of spies, mercs, fascists, and eventually less punchable adversaries like a very grumpy artificial intelligence. From your new favorite artist, DAVID O'SULLIVAN, and GERRY DUGGAN, The New York Times bestselling author of such indie titles as Deadpool, Star Wars: Chewbacca, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Uncanny Avengers!
This is interesting. Our hero is a spy/courier who may or may not have taken down Mark Zuckerberg some internet billionaire and set up the public discourse of many people's lives. It is an interesting tale about too much publicity among other things. The writing is good, the art work so-so.
Our hero is a courier. Since, in his future world, the internet has been opened wide and all secrets have been revealed, anything really important is put on paper and handcarried. So what you get here is sort of future-dystopia throwback. That's a nice angle.
The artwork is a little rough, but it's effective. Our hero, Jack, has the snappy patter down - whether facing assassins, taking a new job from a corrupt smoothie, or needling his Dad, he's got the right line. As a Volume #1 this is mostly setup, (although it starts with a strong action/suspense piece), but it is clever, edgy and witty enough to keep me reading, and I'm curious to see where we go from here. An interesting indie find.
(Please note that I had a chance to read a free ecopy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)
In the aftermath of a digital age gone haywire, it takes a simple man to get the job done. He also needs to be brutal and deadly. Analog is a spy story for today reminding us that nothing stays secret for long, and sometimes they really are out to get us.
I had no idea what I was getting into with this one, but I loved it! I love a good spy story and Jack McGinnis fits the bill perfectly! I love the concept of the physical movement of information after the internet is no longer a safe space. I loved the flashback where it is partly shown how Jack had a hand in the mass doxxing, but moves forward showing him feeling both guilty and not guilty. This is the perfect first issue, because it shows enough to introduce the story, and world, but I am filled with questions I am dying to get answered! I want to know more about Oona, his relationship with his dad, what's going to happen with that cliffhanger ending, and more about what this new future looks like.
An absolute phenomenal opening chapter to a genuinely exciting new series.
I knew nothing of the story going into it, but the slow build up has sucked me right in.
Better still, the pencils in this book pull back on the action, letting everything breathe and allowing the reader to scan panels and gather all the details.
I'm excited to see where the story goes and I'll be grabbing a collected volume shortly.
Really had high expectations and this didn't quite meet them. Really like the art, but not sure how long I'll be following if the narrative doesn't get a little more focused soon.
Good color artwork. An image freebie. A transporter of high tech information is constantly being hunted for what he carries and a misdeed from the past.
Let me start this review by saying that this one is just a preview for the entire comic book. And I read it because I wanted to see if the full comic book was worth the money and time I would spend on it. And I’m gonna give you the answer for that at the end of this review.
This preview is set in a near-future world where digital security has collapsed which I found to be very very interesting. Because this preview presents to us a fresh and engaging take on privacy and technology.
The concept in this preview is pretty innovative because it is exploring the consequences of a world where secrets are no longer safe online. Which really got me hooked into the plot instantly.
The storyline in this preview is pretty fast-paced and expertly crafted, which kept me engaged from start to finish in this preview.
The protagonist in this preview, is introduced to us as a complex and compelling character. Because his motivations and backstory are skillfully woven into the narrative, creating a depth that resonated with me personally. And I just couldn’t help it but like the main character in this preview.
The side characters in this preview are also well-developed. In a way the side characters in this preview are also adding richness and intrigue to the story.
The artwork in this preview is pretty dynamic and detailed. At the same time the artwork is perfectly complementing the gritty tone of the narrative and the artwork is adding depth and atmosphere to each scene un this preview.
The visuals in this preview are effectively bring the world of “Analog” to life. Which really made me give this preview some extra points for doing.
This preview gives us the themes of privacy, identity, and the impact of technology which are central to the story. These themes are very thoughtfully explored, offering both entertainment and a thought-provoking commentary on modern society. Which I really liked about this preview and which made me give this preview extra points for doing. At the same time the themes of this preview made me hyped about reading the full version of this comic book.
So will buy and read the full version of this comic book ? Yes I will. It might take some time for me to actually read the full version of this comic book because I have been way too optimistic when creating my TBR list for this year and I don’t know if I get the time to read the full version of this comic book this year. But I will read the full version of this comic book at some point in time.
