Barakdor #2

Alexa Drey: The Veils of Lamerell

Rate this book

I’d never played a game before,
I’d never seen the point.

On the first day, I leveled up.
It was an intense feeling of euphoric pleasure.

By the end of the week,
I’d forgotten about my other life.

My name is Alexa Drey.
This game has become my world.
I fight for Barakdor.

LitRPG meets Epic Fantasy - immerse yourself in this vivid, virtual reality!

Hot on the heels of the best-selling book The Legacy Builder comes another book set in the virtual fantasyland of Barakdor. Alexa Drey and The Veils of Lamerell tells the tale of Alexa Drey's unusual start to the game, and follows her as she meets wizards, dwarves, a beggle and even a strange looking creature called a mantilee.

If you’re new to Barakdor, you can dive straight in and pick this one up. If you love it, move right on to The Legacy Builder. Barakdor 1 and 2 can be read in any order.

The third book set in the Land of Barakdor, Hero Hunting, will be released in May.

I didn't really like this book all that much. It started out ok, but then it just got bogged down in the details. It wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't well written enough for my tastes. I found it to be downright boring in places, and by the end of the book, I was happy it was done. The story isn't a bad one all things considered, but it just wasn't handled well in my opinion, and I doubt I'll read more of the Alexa branch of the storyline, even though Alexa herself is an interesting character, this adventure just didn't strike me as useful. It's certainly possible I'll pick up the thread sometime later, but for now, I'm shelving this one, and reading other things.

Different from his other series

But good nonetheless. I like the Lincoln storyline for its base building. So it's fitting that we have a pure adventuring arc. Honestly I wasn't much interested in this character when she was brought up in his other book, but she's grown on me since and I look forward to the next book.

A bit of Alice in Wonderland

An interesting tale. I liked seeing the sights and meeting people alongside the female POV. She did seem to bounce along behind the NPCs with little direction of her own. I did enjoy the sights along the way.

Enjoyable

Although this book can get slightly confusing at times and I did enjoy the other book in the series much more, this book helps to expand the world this series takes place in.

Book two

Honestly I put this book down and went and read others before coming back to finish it.
It's not bad or boring, it just follows a different character than the first book. I wanted more of book one, not a new character.
I can recommend it though, it is well done.

Better story, better writing

This story, book 2 was a thousand times better than book 1. More engaging, better explanation and more in-depth world building. This was the start of a fantastic tale. I hope the author continues to improve like this.

Just wow

Love this series. Completely recommend it. Reads like epic fast paced fantasy with a touch of litrpg, combines the best of both i think. You’ll love it!
