Married to her own personal hero for over fifty-eight years, mother of three, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother to a beautiful baby girl, Dorothy calls on her life’s experiences—including designing and helping her husband build their home, complete with beams they hewed by hand and a real, old-fashioned walk-in kitchen fireplace she occasionally cooks in, to add color and depth to her stories. But, while she still knows how to clean used bricks, mix mortar and swing a mean hammer, she now only designs homes for the characters in her books. An antique lover, she fills those homes (and her own) with furnishings appropriate to the time.

When she is not busy writing, Dorothy enjoys visiting with family—who live much too far away—and traveling with her husband throughout the United States doing research for future books. She values her American heritage and believes in God, love, family and happy endings, which explains why she feels so at home writing Christian historical romance.

A sweet page turner of a different type of mail order bride, and a girl that had to be very brave or desperate to leave all she knew and went a long way from home to marry a stranger.
Can you imagine the surprise this gentleman found when the wife he was expecting to marry turned out to be someone else, and he goes ahead and marries her anyway?
There are several sweet moments here, and there is a story of forgiveness, and things are not always as our mind perceives.
Wait until our girl Virginia is waiting for the maid, only to find out that that is her, and watch her grown with the help of a paying guest at her husband’s hotel.
All the while I wanted to get to the end of the book, but then I still wanted it to continue, a story to get lost in.

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review

Mail-Order Bride Switch was not what I was expecting! After reading the last book, I was getting tired of this series; however, I liked that this couple didn't go into the marriage with the thought of annulment -- they were in it for the five years at least, or so it seemed to me. So at least that was different from the other books in the series. ;)

I found it interesting to see the heroine learn to do household chores for the hotel -- like making beds. It was really sweet of a certain lady to help her learn.

The romance was good. Garret was wounded from certain things in the past, so it wasn't easy for him to open up his heart. The ending was a little annoying to me, as it felt like a repeat (in a way) of the previous books. It was still cute, though.

All in all, a good read and better than the last one.

Mail-order bride stories can be a lot of fun, particularly if the couple can find a happy-ever-after. I'm sure that historically, many didn't end happily. Of course, that is why I read fiction! I can have a good experience reading a fun story.

Garrett Stevenson needs a bride in order to keep his hotel. There is a stipulation that he must marry. He is suffering from emotional pain and is not willing to put himself in a position to be hurt again. Therefore, he decides to order a bride for an in-name-only marriage.

Virginia Winterman is running from an abusive engagement. An in-name-only marriage sounds like the perfect solution to her problem, until she realizes that it isn't enough.

This book is a fun read that looks at the development of a relationship. Trust is a hard commodity to obtain, particularly if you have been hurt before. I liked that this relationship develops gradually. Both of the M/C's are good people that you would want to know in real life. Garrett is patient, even though he doesn't like to be. Virginia rejoices in the small victories of the day.

This book is clean with some kissing.

This was a very sweet and clean read that showed a lot of character growth (although I wish it had come sooner than it did). I enjoyed watching Virginia and Garret's relationship grow - even if I think a lot of their "issues" could have been resolved if only they had spoken to each other more. Virginia impressed me with her ability to think on her feet, and to not become overwhelmed, or give up, when she realized the enormity of her situation and the things that would be expected of her. She could have demanded he find help to hire, but she didn't. She buckled down and learned what she needed to do in order to help him (even if her first attempts weren't the greatest). And I simply adored Mrs.Fueller's character (even if I had her figured out fairly early on).

I do wish we had been told what exactly happened to Virginia's previous suitor, I have a feeling there is a definite story there, but overall I enjoyed this romance, and I feel others will as well.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

This is the third book in the series and I wanted to like it better than the first but it didn’t quite meet my expectations. It started out interesting but then gradually went downhill. I felt it could have been written better.

I liked Virginia, for the most part, and Mrs. Fuller but Garret was definitely a character that could have been improved. He always came across as grumpy and distant, at least to me, and I didn’t quite understand how Virginia fell in love with him. His ridiculous prejudice against women was forever getting in the way and preventing him from connecting with the two women and giving them a chance.

During the last 50 pages of the book, Garret discovered that Mrs. Fuller was actually his mother, who he thought willfully abandoned him when he was young. He learned the truth and immediately realized how wrong he was in his prejudice and changed his attitude then and there and became a little more open. It was a nice reunion scene but I felt it, and Garret’s revelation, could have come much sooner so he wasn’t spending a lot of the book stomping around, distant and angry.

I was also hoping for some more spiritual content and a lot of spiritual growth for G. He wasn’t a Godly man and didn’t really seem to believe in God and thought prayer was useless. I was hoping his mother or the pastor would urge him to take his problems to the Lord and pray but nothing was ever mentioned. It was very disappointing to me.

Another problem I had with this book, like the first one, was lack of communication. G&V never think to open their mouths and just say how they’re feeling. They each wait for the other to make the first move, nothing happens, and then they’re convinced that they’re not loved or wanted. And then there are always the stupid misunderstandings where everyone misconstrues everything and it could all be solved by talking but that would be too easy. They either ignore the problem or run away and then cry, whine, and moan like nitwits. G&V only confess their feelings to each other in like the last 10 pages 🙄.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I don’t know if I will continue to read her. I’ve been disappointed twice now. I’m not sure if it’s just this one series I don’t like, her writing, or a little of both. Both books have practically the exact same plot with just the names changed.

A book to drink tea with and finish in a few hours, brain-meltingly wholesome with good character development and sweet old ladies with sad pasts. In addition, yeah, it kind of felt like a carbon copy of Beauty For Ashes with only slightly different characters but honestly, I’d read this storyline a hundred times because it’s like diabetes on paper with a side dish of addictive.

I am beyond glad I read this book!! It was so, so perfect and cute!

⚠️possible spoilers ahead⚠️

I felt like there should’ve been more conversations between Garret and Virginia.. like they should’ve gotten to know each other a little better.. there could’ve been so many more conversations that suggested their love for one another! But besides that, this book was pretty perfect 🤩!!

I liked the added story of Garret’s mom abandoning him. I liked how he had a mini anger problem and was prejudiced towards women because of it.. it made the story different, more realistic, and have depth.

I seriously liked Virginia’s character, how she was unable to do a lot of chores because she was brought up with always having servants tend to her. It was a good change in the story compared to the last 2 books in this series.

Garret is just awesome. I loved his lines and the things he did for Virginia like help her remove her snow boots & brush the snow from her dress and hair.

A great end to the Whisper Creek series from Clark!!

Some of my favorite parts:

“He wanted a maid and a cook for his hotel. And then Virginia had arrived and turned everything upside down. Now he had two maids and cook. What he wanted was Virginia.”🥺😭😇

“It was a mistake, when he knew would cost him sleep, but he turned and looked at her. She was smiling.”🥺🤩🌸

“I’d forgotten how beautiful you are.”

“ ‘Come with me. I suddenly need some fresh air.’
He let her down the aisle again out onto the small platform, pulled her into his arms and kissed her until she was breathless and trembling.
‘Will you be my wife, Virginia? A true wife? No more in-name-only marriage, but a true one. Will you love me? And have my babies? And wake up next to me every morning for the rest of our lives?’
Yes! Oh, yes, Garrett. I love you so much.’”

I love this book and the entire series so much!! 💗💗💗🥺😆👍🏼🤩

Mail Order Bride Switch Is a genius of a story. This book has adventure, love and Faith. You have the main character going to meet her soon to be husband ( That she meets through the mail) And you get there and meet this awesome man who is to be your husband but the man who is to marry her knows that she wasn't his mail order bride but he liked what he saw so he married her anyways. She didn't know he was the wrong man - will she ever find out? If she does what does she do? Did they follow what GOD wants them to do? Can you imagine finding out the man that you married is not the man you expected to marry? What would you do? I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

I'll start by saying this is definitely not my genre. I ordered this book from the library and they had it filed under historical fiction/inspirational, both of which I normally like. However it was definitely more of a romance novel which I definitely don't like. And this book reminded me why I don't like them. The characters were shallow. The plot was totally predictable. There was zero historical references, unless you consider passing comments on railroads and telegraphs and zero inspirational allusions unless you count the fact that they had a pastor in the story and occasionally the characters said they would pray about something. If you like romance novels this might be a good read for you. If you are looking for something historical or inspirational you might want to keep looking.

I enjoyed this book so much, not to mention the other two books in the series. I loved how the female character, Victoria, had to learn so many things in her new situation and was successful. The male character, Garret, had trust issues and had to fight his attraction to Victoria. Another characacter played an important role in the story. Unfortunately, "Mail-Order Bride Switch" appears to be Dorothy Clark's last book. It was printed in 2018 which I believe was the year that Harlequin ended the "Love Inspired Historical" line. I wonder how many of the line's authors quit writing books because of this. It's such a shame. Thankfully, Harlequin is currently publishing 2 new historicals every other month.

A somewhat confusing chain of events leading to a romance that was humorous as well as interesting. In this little story , I was very interested in reading as it was somewhat different then the norm. I enjoyed the story line as well as the characters and the way the author portrayed them. With each unfolding step it causes the reader to smile and laugh and just shake their head. A getaway into another time and place of life. One that touches the reader and keeps their attention. A light clean read full of ups and downs. I hope you enjoy it as I did. Regards, Anna Swedenmom

Garrett must find a bride or forfeit his newly built hotel. Virginia arrives as a maid he expects to marry in name only but she is not who he sent for. He finds out pretty quick when the pampered heiress tries to act like the maid she is impersonating.
Garrett’s distrust of women is confirmed but Virginia is determined to escape a cruel suitor and she persists because she relishes being useful.
Both characters are sympathetic, and the story moves fast with a lovely sensible conclusion and some help from surprise guests.

Garret has to be married or lose his hotel, according to the agreement he signed with the town's founder. Instead of the woman he sent for as maid, cook, and wife in name only, a rather unskilled socialite arrives. This just before a major snowstorm, stranding passengers and filling his new hotel…with only the two of them for staff.

Virginia switched places with her maid, Millie, and is on the run from her father and the cruel man he has approved to be her fiancé. She quickly learns that watching someone else do the work of a maid and cook does not equip her at all for the reality of the work. But she's determined, and luckily a guest arrives that is more than willing to show her how.

I was in the mood for both a quick read and a mail-order bride story, and this Love Inspired Historical was just the ticket. It provided a new set of circumstances and personalities into the mix, along with a story of healing, reconciliation, and growing faith. Though Garret's anger and distrust did seem to go away rather easily and the story's twists were a bit predictable, it was enjoyable overall.

Dorothy Clark is a new author to me, and I am sad to see that I've only discovered her just as Harlequin is preparing to discontinue their Love Inspired Historical line. But between looking for any back catalog and keeping an eye out for new releases from different publishers or venues, I may be seeing more of her work.

I loved this story! I fully enjoyed this entire series and I'm very sorry it's over. I especially enjoyed the first and last books in this series. I loved the common tie (all business owners who would lose their businesses unless they marry, and therefore marriages of convenience). This particular story was very touching to me. The only thing that I wish had been done differently is that we could have seen some spiritual growth more obviously from the hero. He made several thoughts about how prayer doesn't work, no God is listening to it, etc. and though he stopped thinking those things we never really saw him coming to the Lord either. Other than that, the historical and romance aspects of this story were awesome. I loved this book.

So sweet!! What a wonderful story and a real gem in Mrs Fuller. I loved the way this played out and that although Virginia took a few moments to feel sorry for herself, she pushed through and improved herself so much!
