In Dusk to A Guide to Landscape Photography at Night, photographer Glenn Randall teaches you how to plan, shoot, and process professional-quality images of the night sky and more.
In the past, landscape photography largely ended when the last light of dusk faded from the sky. Today it’s only beginning. The latest digital cameras have made it easy to create images of the landscape at night that film and early digital photographers could only dream of. Equipped with off-the-shelf cameras, more and more photographers are venturing into the night, far beyond the comforting glow of city lights, and returning with spectacular images of places both familiar and unknown that are unlike anything seen before.
Dusk to A Guide to Landscape Photography at Night is your guide to this new photographic world. In it, photographer Glenn Randall—author of the bestselling The Art, Science, and Craft of Great Landscape Photography—teaches you how to plan, shoot, and process professional-quality images of the Milky Way, the aurora, lunar eclipses, meteor showers, star trails, and landscapes lit solely by moonlight.
Throughout the book, Randall emphasizes ways to integrate beautiful depictions of the night sky with equally compelling renditions of the land below to create complete landscape images that evoke a sense of place—and a sense of wonder. Equipped with the knowledge in this book, readers will be prepared to create their own nocturnal masterpieces.
I like this book a lot. It starts out in a somewhat simple manner, and in many ways, the book has been written in a simple matter.
There is enough technical information, to keep most people happy. It certainly kept me happy.
The photography is superb.
Next, the layout of the books works very well. Shooting the night sky is not just a question of setting up your tripod and shooting. I like the manner in which Glenn breaks up the subject into various shoot 'ideas'. This allows you to start with any one kind of night photography genre and develop your skill from there.
The astronomical notes are good. Enough to illuminate the topic, without getting too heavy.
Read the book well, because you will keep coming up tons of resources through the book
Excellent reference for landscape photography at night. He covers gear, shooting, and processing of nighttime images including pinpoint stars, star trails, the Milky Way, aurora, moonlit landscapes, and meteor showers in great detail.
The book is full of his images and the captions are well detailed with the location, time, camera and lens, exposure information, number of frames in composites, and any special processing applied.
Makes me wish I had an eidetic memory so I could easily recall the depth of information and detailed strategies he shares.
Great, Lots of information, some of it at the start is mostly gear related but, gets into the meat and potatoes about 15% in and the rest is information you probably won't find anywhere else.
Strikes an impressive balance between technical knowledge and readability. Fantastic book to keep around the house for constant reference throughout anyone's astrophotography journey.
