From one of the strongest voices in frontier fiction, THE BORDER MEN is a bold novel of revolution, adventure, and the spirit of the American pioneers. Cameron Judd tells the compelling story of proud men and women whose passion for liberty led them to fight for their freedom and tame the wilderness. Survival is at its most precarious, as Joshua Colter must defend the land he adopted in his youth, Tennessee. As a captain of the newly formed militia known as the Patriot Rangers, he leads the colonists in their struggles not just against the soldiers of the British Crown attempting to quiet their rebellion, but the fierce anger of the Cherokee and Chickamauga Indians as well, as they protect their territory.

This is the follow up to "The Overmountain Men" and is a good historical fiction novel. It covers the Tennessee area from 1778-1783 (during the Revolutionary War) and features the King's Mountain battle. Many of the characters from "Overmountain Men" return and their lives are updated. Recommended to fans of historical fiction.

3.5 ☆ -- the good parts of the book were really, really good. At first I didn't want to rate this because I didn't know if the book was the issue, or just me. All I know is that I was ready to move on with something else a handful of times. But that last 100 pages were fantastic, and such a beautiful yet sad ending. Still want to read the third installment

A very fine adventure

I read the first book in the series and I knew the author had me hooked. Always the history buff, this second book picked up with the characters and never missed a beat. Joshua, Cooper, Alphus took me on quite an exciting trip through the Revolutionary & the corresponding Indian Wars. A story of courage, love, honor and freedom with right amount of humor and tears. Fiction of course, but enough real characters from the era to make you feel as if you were there. Now I reckon I'll order number three and see where takes me. I highly recommend the to all who like a good story.

Goosebumps at the End

Really great work of historical fiction. The author takes the reader on an adventure set in the Revolutionary War era the the lower Appalachians. Patriots battled the British, colonists loyal to England, outlaws, and various tribes of Native Americans. Throughout, the protagonist Joshua Colter remains steadfast, brave, courageous, and an honorable man. Really good book that both entertains and educates.

Solid Read

Very interesting historical novel that is a little more text book than I like. It does however have many well developed characters whose adventures comprise the best parts of the book. Obviously thoroughly researched, this book is perfect for those wanting to know more detailed background of the lives and times depicted.

This is the second book in the Tennessee Frontier Trilogy. The book's main story is about the battle for King's Mountain. The author brings the story and characters to life. However, I must confess that history is one of my favorites.

Lots of action and a realistic account of life on the frontier of Kentucky during the Revolutionary war. Sometimes a little wordy, however a great read and worth every minute
