Woman. Protector of the Crown Prince. Avenging Blade of the Goddess Ishtar.
Rescued from her grandfather’s dungeon by the King of the Gryphons, Enkara only wishes to repay that great debt by serving as one of the elite Shadow Guards tasked with protecting the royal line. Unfortunately, the gods have other plans, for she was born with the mark of a goddess running down her spine and her destiny is far greater than that of a simple guard.
She is one of the Goddess Ishtar’s Avenging Blades, born into the world when danger stalks the royal line.
While that brings far more attention than she ever wished, she is still happy to serve Crown Prince Kuwari, for he is also her closest friend, and their bond is unlike any other Blade and Prince before them.
But Ishtar isn’t the only goddess with a desire to claim Enkara as her Blade and Kuwari as her King. Ereshkigal, Queen of the Underworld, is jealous of her younger sister, Ishtar, and will do all in her power to snatch them away, even if she must destroy the gryphon kingdom to do it.
Ishtar’s Legacy Reading Order:
Ishtar’s Blade A Blade’s Beginning (Short story. Enkara and Kuwari’s first meeting when they were children.) Blade’s Honor Blade’s Destiny (forthcoming later in 2018)
Lisa Blackwood is the USA Today bestselling author of the Gargoyle and Sorceress Urban Fantasy series. She and her new co-author, S.M. Schmitz, are also embarking upon a new Space Opera Romance series. Book one is titled, Vengeance: Warships of the Spire. It can be found in the Dominion Rising boxset anthology.
As well as writing, Lisa is also an avid gardener, horse enthusiast, and dog lover. She grudgingly lives in a small town in Southern Ontario, though she would much rather live deep in a dark forest, surrounded by majestic old-growth trees. Since she cannot live her fantasy, she decided to write fantasy instead. Freya, her ever faithful and beloved hellhound, ensures Lisa takes breaks from the computer so they can rid the garden of cats with delusions of conquest.
Thank you, thank you for finally writing this book! I didn’t think I could like any book better than ‘Ishtar’s Blade’, but ‘Blade’s Honor’ did it! You have to read ‘Ishtar’s Blade’ first to understand the back story and all the characters. I also recommend reading ‘A Blade’s Beginning’. ‘A Blade’s Beginning’ is a real short story but it explains how Kuwari and Enkara met. This book was amazing with all the action and adventure. Goddesses are set on revenge; you stole my husband so I’ll steal yours. A heroine who is not sure of her worth as a woman and is afraid the evil goddess is using her. Assassination plots galore. Great twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and that kept me on the edge of my seat. Thankfully Kuwari and Enkara get a HEA; well as long as the goddesses don’t interfere again.
I absolutely love this series! I fell in love with Kuwari in Ishtar’s Blade as a cub. I am so enthralled with him as a man. And Enkara...she rocks!! As do Iltani and Ditanu. But, that goes without saying!! Well done! Can’t wait for more!! And don’t miss the beginning story of Kuwari and Enkara’s short story; it really helps to understand their bond. Well done, Lisa Blackwood. Well done!
I’ve loved every book by Lisa Blackwood to date so it is no surprise that I’m finding her Ishtar’s Legacy series to be great fun. Blade's Honor is Book 2 in the Sadie’s and it is a wonderful urban fantasy tale that is easily worth five stars. It had just what I wanted, was well written, with excellent world building and a great plot, it’s lead Enkara, “Avenging Blade of the Goddess Ishtar” is Judy the sort of complex kick-a** heroine I love. At the same time it’s cast of supporting characters (I love Enkara’s relationship with Kuwari, best friend and Crown Prince) are simply superb. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, with the caveat that while you could read this standalone you’re much better starting off from book 1 of the series.
The next generation. The queen, Iltani, also the first Black is second mother to the Crown Prince. The Crown Prince fell in love with his Blade, they find some from a line of trustees She is found to be pure and trusted by the goddess Ishtar, knowing that the family killed her father and imprisoned she and her human mother for 9 years. She is raised in the palace and trains to be a blade and finally married to the Crown Prince. Plague is started by the goddess of the underworld, sister to Ishtar, who she's feuding with and a deal is made. The Crown Prince and his Blade/mate are taken to the underworld where it is found out that the goddess husband is within the Crown Prince and the goddess wants to take over the Blades body so they can be together. They all negotiate this down to 2 nights at the solstice and with Ishtar and her husband, who is a prisoner of the underworld, on the equinoxes. Ever you lived happily ever after.
I loved this book so much, this world is just incredible.
The world has just enough depth and mythology to interest you without being overwhelmed with useless pieces of information to remember.
The characters are wonderfully portrayed, Kuwari and Enkara one of my OTPs, alongside Ditanu and Iltani. The romance is done brilliantly, definitely a bit insta lovey but I don't care. I'm here for it no matter what.
I could not put this book down, finding any spare moment to finish this story.
I'm not ready to give up this story world. I sincerely hope there is more to come in this series. I will be eagerly waiting.
I wonder who will be the focus of book three... I really hope it's just fluff scenes of my faves. I'm not ready to let go of them just yet!
I loved Ishtar's Blade, so obviously, I'd want to read the second book in the series. While I enjoyed the story overall, I couldn't quite bring myself to care about Kuwari and Entara as much as Ditanu and Iltani. I really enjoyed Kuwari; his humor makes him so very charming, just like his father. I loved being able to see 16 years later what had been going to in Nineveh with Iltani, Dintanu, and the rest. There were many entertaining scenarios that I didn't see coming. While maybe not as much as the first, overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it!
I really enjoyed this book. I love how the males are in this series. They love deeply and aren’t afraid to show it. You feel connected to the characters. It was nice seeing the ones from the previous book as well. There were a few grammar errors, but they were minor. Recommend.
I chose this rating because I honestly did not know what was coming next in the unfolding of the story. I found myself at the beginning, craving for the story to go on with Danato and illani however I soon enjoyed the antics of the mischievous Prince. As always I often share my books with others as will I with this one.
epub on kobo - a bundle via Bookfunnel. Ebook isbn: 9781777600747, 293 pages (there's a different kobo isbn as well, released December 2019 as DRM-Free, epub3) marked Edition: 2023/07/09.
Jumping to the next generation - Kuwari, like his father the sole survivor of his litter, has grown up, also like his father, with Enkara who is marked as potentially another of Ishtar's Blades (unusual to have two at the same time). The two seem destined to become part of the ongoing feud between the divine sisters...
An intriguing sequel to the first book - and more to come!
I loved this book and the first one Ishstars Blade
Lisa Blackwood is an astonishing writer. The way the story flows and the twists that I didn’t expect were very enthralling. I couldn’t put it down. Now I’m ready for the next one.
Really liked the main characters. The gryphons added a great plot line and the love story was somehow sweet. God's and Goddesses also added to the different story line than many others. Can't wait for the next book.
This story in the series offers some insight to why the goddesses are fighting. And it seems as though darkness isn't always the one to start the feuds. I love the man that the crowned prince grows into. Lots.of love and mischievous from him. Great story.
Well the ending of this book but apparently not the series. I am enthralled with Lisa blackwoods works and stories. Her books contain strong women, but they also contain equally strong men.
Series just gets better and better with each book. The characters really grow and these stories have very little sex in them, but lots of action and conspiracy.
Can we all just appreciate that for once the parents of the sequel characters are present and in a positive relationship with the children characters? Like that is so so rare!
I found this to be a fascinating love story. Full of action, suspense and intrigue throughout the story. I was completely enthralled though out the story.
