Hammered: A Shadows of Chicago Novel

Rate this book
Fighting has been engrained—hammered into me. For the last seventeen of my twenty-seven years, hurt has fueled my desire in the ring.

I’ve paid my dues.
Now, I want better—I want her.

I thought I finally had my chance and then corruption threatened to take it away. I’m no stranger to challenge; it just makes me more determined to come out on top—of my world and her.

She thinks we’re from opposite sides of the track and she’s right, but we aren’t that different. We are both blinded by pain, and I see hers.

I have never lost a fight, but Lydia Norberg may prove to be my strongest opponent yet.

I was kindly sent an arc by the author and I'll be honest I had NO idea what I was getting. I was pleasantly surprised. There is a good, strong story line, that also explores being prejudiced and judgemental, some really rounded and well developed characters and a very easy to read style of writing. On this surface this seemed very similar to lots of other 'bad boy' romance books, but as I read it, the story was so much more intricate and had more depth than most of those books.

I could understand why Lydia was a little leary of Stone but I did find her a little over the top at times. She was also quite horrible to Stone and didn't deserve his forgiveness quite as easily as he gave it. However they were both very believable and likeable characters and Lydia had redeemed herself by the end. The chemistry between Lydia and Stone was so hot, as were the bedroom (and not bedroom) scenes. I loved Stone for his decision, later in the story, to wait for Lydia to be 'ready', where can I find me a Stone?

There is so much more to this story than will they/ wont they followed by a fall out. There are several sub plots within this, all of which add to the story and enrich the readers experience. This book also has one of the BEST epilogues I have EVER read. Rose Hudson has gone from an unknown to me author to one whose books I will definitely read.

Hidden gem

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. It is fantastic. Well written and engaging characters. Realistic plot. I look forward to more of her work.
