The heroine:Maizey - she works as a paralegal at a law firm and was hoping for a promotion, though her boss Eva thinks she makes a mess of everything she touches. Her boss used to treat her nice, but slowly as time went on, she began to insult Maizey and pick apart everything she did. She hated being vulnerable to the moods of someone who didn’t like her.
The Heroes:Cato - he works at the same law firm as Maizey and is one of the few people at the firm who treats her nicely. He has had a crush on her for a while. He hated his job but acted like the perfect employee. Anson - Maizey’s bosses' handsome brother-in-law. He wasn’t fond of attending his brother and sister-in-laws party. But Eva wanted him to meet someone. Braden - he is a rock star who isn’t too fond of attorneys, but they are an occupational hazard in his industry. When his label optioned his music for a commercial, he shows up at the law office to start a lawsuit. He meets Maizey at the office. He is quite a cocky guy and a bit full of himself. Von - he is a veterinarian who loves his job. So, when Maizey comes into his office with her hippy dippy sister sparkle and her pet rat, he is interested.
The Story: when Maizey is about a month away from her annual performance review, she is required to attend a dinner party for the firm at her boss's home. Her boss tells her that none of the senior partners or their wives will talk with Maizey because she is young and beautiful, so if she wants to move up in the company, Maizey will need a fiancé or a husband, then she fixes her up with Anson and they hit it off from the start.
When Maizey meets Brade, she immediately thought he was a dick, but she helped him with his lawsuit and even told him how she used to be in a band when she was in college. He was impressed that she wasn’t only a buttoned-up lawyer type. He invites her to a private show at a little place in town. Though she didn’t really like him at first, she was impressed by his celebrity status and attended the show with her sister Sparkle.
Maizey was friends with Cato at the law office. They often went to lunch together. He had a lot of secrets about how he felt about his work. They loved him there at the firm, but he detested all of it and he looked forward to his lunches with Maizey. He was a former fat kid that now works out five days a week but didn’t think he could date someone at work.
Since Maizey had to find a fiancée for her job prospects to pan out, she joined a matchmaking service. The guys that were picked for her were like a list of the biggest losers in New York, so she asked for her money back and thought she would just find a man on her own, the three she had already were nice guys, so she would just try with them. Then she also meets the Vet when she helps her sister Sparkle with her sick pet rat Cher. Von asks her out right away.
I liked the characters in this book much more than those in the first two books in this series. Though like I said in the last review, I have a lot of trouble thinking that a woman dating four random guys would somehow pick four that would be ok with sharing her when they found out about each other. More likely they would each want to be the only one or would dump her for cheating even though they haven’t made any kind of commitment yet.
This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Jillian Macie and Tristan James. I like Jillian’s voice quite a bit. She is great at showing emotion through her voice and is good at doing different voices for different characters. Tristan also has a great voice and is a good narrator. Though of course, I do like it when there are different narrators for each main character.
I enjoyed this story. Maizy was a feisty, kickass, independent woman. It was nice to read a book where a woman gives society the middle finger and dates whoever she wants. She struggles with some self doubt and insecurity but don't we all. The story is pretty quick and all four men are extremely delicious. This is a very sexy read! I am definitely going to read Mika Lane's other reverse harem stories!
I hate this phrase,”I wanted to really like it but....” but when it’s true, what can you do?
I hate this phrase,”I wanted to really like it but....” but when it’s true, what can you do? Interesting but rather sexist premise, even if her boss was a woman.... Ok,Maizy seems to love her life in general but kinda hates her job because of her shallow, nosy, scheming beyotch of a boss.... Now while Maizy seems to be happy being single, she starts dating to supposedly get a promotion and suddenly her dating like goes from zero to sixty like it been dipped in crack or boosted by steroids.... She wastes a 1000 dollars for one month w/a matchmaker? Huh ? Which she never uses..... why she doesn’t get a refund I don’t know... But anywAy, she meets Braden a supposed rock star thru work, Cato a long time friend from work whose supposedly been pining for her for years, Anson she meets through her Evil boss,he’s her brother in law( we never truly understand why she sets the two up together)( because supposedly she’s too big a shallow beyotch to be doing it to be nice) and finally Von who’s a veterinarian she meets when her sisters rat 🐀 “Cher” ( who is supposedly a male rat ) gets sick....
Why didn’t I like this ? Because it was about as shallow as Barbies bellybutton.... Maizey goes out with Anson ( their meeting at sister in lows house doesn’t count as a first date to me) on their first date,at an art gallery, they’re their barely 20 minutes when their off in a back room after kissing in the gallery and having sex... They’ve bare even started to get to know each other and already humping like bunnies in heat... It’s not like you can have a slow burn w/this many ppl in this short a book but come on ppl ! You could at least try, couldn’t you ? Then she goes out with “Brade” the next night and it’s sex in his limo after an hour or soo of karaoke, sleeping on his couch then home for a quick change limo to the office and the out with /Cato later that night... And guess what ? Yeah, sex with him tooo.... and then Von the yummy Vet the next night at his place after walking his dogs... Ok, I’m soo not into slut shaming ,a woman has a right to a healthily sex life jus like a man.... It ticks me off , men can marry men, women can marry women, you can even get freaky and marry the Eiffel freaking tower but get fat or be a woman and have a healthy love for sex and your a loser who barely had the right to live or your a slut and a whore..... But come on, sleeping with a different guy ever single night and ALL on your first day w/them ? Really ?!?!?! But wait there’s more ,on day five she has sex with the first two guys Anson and Brade and on day six Cato and Von ( or A&B and then C&V) and on day seven age has sex with all four of them..... Now come on that’s one busy freakin week and I think around about here you have to call a slut a slut... Even if some how after only a few dates with all of them, mainly only one date a piece separately ,she’s saying she loves them... Maybe ,just maybe I could believe it with Cato, they’ve been knowing each other for years but still only one day before she’s spring the whole “Hey,come meet the other guys .” thing on him... and suddenly they love her abs age loves them and their all like p, “Hey,it’s been a whole week , let’s just share her and move in together and be happy”. What? Huh ? Let’s all start a non-profit and work together too... HFN THE END I really wanted to like this but like I said it was about as deep as a Barbies bellybutton.... There are good RH’s out there but sadly usually only “if” they are a part of a series and then like anything else it’s never a given.... though I’ve learn to run from the term “slow burn”, I mean while I don’t want them “booking up” on the 1st date I don’t want to be three books in before they even kiss while their inner thoughts are sex, sex, sex but their outer actions leave you wondering if they will ever be more than friends... Good/interesting idea 💡,but shallow and really has little to no depth w/any of the characters... Can’t really recommend but I wish I could....
This book has me wishing I found 4 wonderful men of my own. I don't think hubby works agree though. Thank you for another great book Mika. Maizy is a lucky lady to find 4 men to treat her like a queen and show her so much love.
Oh boy! The law firm that Maizy works for is really rather outdated. For her to get promotion she must have a husband as the partner's wives are worried about her! So she gets set up on the dating scene with four hot, alpha males : Anson [boss's brother in law], Brade [the rock star], Cato ][a fellow worker who is very attracted to her] and Von who is a vet. All that choice of hunky, alpha males oozing with charm and intelligence. Who is she to choose?? Does she have to choose between them?? This is a FUN read with a capital F. This is a reverse harem and Maizy really is very attracted to all and feels that she is in love with them all and they are in love with her. There are some red hot steamy scenes but they all help to make this one naughty read that will make you laugh and enjoy so much that you'll read it in one go. Then you'll be like me and now wanting to read Mika Lane's next book as this was so good. I received a reader's copy of this story and voluntarily leave my honest opinion of it here.
What do you do when your promotion depends on you finding a fiance or husband within the next 30 day? You go out with as many men as you can and hope you find the man of your dreams. But what happens when you fall in love with more than one man? Do you pick one out of a hat? Do you throw the others away? Or do you leave your job and love the ones who love you back? With great characters that the reader cannot help but fall in love with and a storyline that I could not put down this book is a must read.
Another great reverse harem by Mika Lane. Maizy wants a promotion but in order to do that she needs a husband, fiancée or boyfriend. What will she do when she ends up with 4 guys to choose from? This is a fun read and I really enjoyed it. Maizy has struggled to find a boyfriend and now she has 4 guys who want to be with her and she doesn't know what to do. They are all so different and bring different things to the table. I love her sister Sparkle, she brings a lot of fun to the book without taking anything away.
Maizy’s story is fun and so entertaining. She works as a paralegal and in order to get ahead she needs a fiance or a husband. So in order to bet the promotion she dips her toes in the dating pool. There is the co-worker, the boss’s brother in law, the rock star and her sister’s vet. Who will she chose? What a great story .
I didn't know what to expect from this book but I was pleasantly surprised. Maizy is given a sort of ultimatum at work, that she need a man to get a promotion. Well she found four. This is about romance ,friends and love. Yes it's different but that's not a bad thing. Really liked reading This
with a witch boss harassing her, she bows down to the demand that he has a fiancé or husband by her review and starts looking for her match. Meeting several guys over a short time helps, but she’s found she loves them all. So what do you do with that situation? Screw it, keep them all!
This novel is so much fun to read. A real coming of age novel, with a strong female character learning to deal with the perils of the working world. The male characters are all very different yet complete each other well. Impossible to put down.
I've been binging this stand alone series for a couple days. They are phenomenal. I love how maizy found so much love between guys that couldn't be anymore different. In the end love wins.
I found this out of sequence with the other contemporary RH books in the series, but was told they read as standalones fine — the problem is, they also said this was her least best and I don’t know that I really want to try any of the others because this fell really flat for me.
Maybe I’m just used to paranormal RHs or bad boy/girl types that fully embrace their sexualities and the RH, but I found the FMC’s insecurities and heavy use of slut/whore/disgraceful (both her and her sister) a huge issue. I know some people like to reclaim it but it really didn’t read as reclamation, it read as shame and projection, I almost DNFd. There was also a LOT of “I’m not usually so pussy-whipped” and a total sucker, fool, etc. from the men in regards to the FMC, like to the point that they sounded like recycled lines.
*specific spoilers beyond this point* . . . . Two stars because the steamy scenes were well written and they let all the pretenses and insecurities fell away, and because, despite the line recycling the men were all delectable in their own ways. Even if I would’ve liked a little more getting to know them individually before all the s3x and then crying about the predicament and then more s3x; the “fell in love with them all” was super sudden but not in an instant-love kinda way, in a “we’re missing so much context” kinda way.
I did like the HEA of them all working together as a happy family. Wish it had been longer though, the group dynamics would’ve been nice to explore. And I liked to hate Eva lol.
This is another short 203 page reverse harem romance about Maizy who works as a paralegal, gets told by her bitch of a boss that in order to get a promotion, she needs to have a fiancé or husband as she is too tempting to the other men in their office... so she sets out to find a boyfriend and instead of finding one, why not four??
You had Anson who was her boss's brother in law (set up by the bitch boss herself). Brade, a rock star that was a client of the firms. Von, the vet who saved her sisters pet rat and the very last of the four was Cato her work bestie who just so happens to have been in love with her forever...
The book was fun and light hearted, an easy read but I will advise to read it only and to NOT listen to the audio book as anything narrated by Tristan James kills the fanny flutters. I swear to god his voice sounds like a 70 year old man and when you're listening to a book trying to picture a "young or middle age" man talking, this is not fucking it..
I enjoyed it, but I think I would have liked it more if I hadn’t read the other books first. I felt it was too similar to the last two books in the series. The make or break situation may have been slightly different but the group dynamic was exactly the same. I still love to idea of keeping them all, and I understand these types of situations can only go a certain number of ways, so I respect the effort put into this story. The characters are sweet and the dudes are definitely hot. It’s your typical reverse harem story. Not my favorite, but overall still enjoyable. I still plan on reading books four and five, but I expect a lot of the same. But who knows, I could be proven wrong. Here’s for being hopeful.
Sadly I think this writer only has one kind of storyline for all her books, this is the 3rd of her RH books I’ve read and each one has a woman who has to find love in 30 days or her world is over. (She won’t get the Inheritance, house will be foreclosed, won’t get the job promotion). Yet again lead female character meets 4 sexy guys and they all fall deeply in love.
At least this one had a great job & rather then another “best friend “ she had the sister character to turn to when she just couldn’t choose between the 4. Overall I did enjoy this book better then her other two but I’m really hoping the next one isn’t another carbon copy
Not good enough. The plot development got me so mad. In fact there was no development, everything was just abrupt. The meeting of the characters and all. The relationships were abrupt and had no development or emotions. Just bland like the sex scenes and just as non-exciting. There was absolutely no emotional connection between the characters. I could not feel or get into the story. You can't even get attached to the characters, everything and everyone is just fleeting like they are supporting characters in a third rate show. No romance at all. But I guess I was just expecting too much, so I will have myself to blame for that.
I’ve read Mika’s books before and this one was probably my least favorite. The storyline just wasn’t doing it for me. I enjoyed all the characters and how they were written but the story of how they came to be in Maizy’s life just didn’t do it for me. The story was sweet and while most reverse Harem romances are somewhat far fetched this one seemed a little harder for me to believe and get invested. The writing wasn’t bad, and the editing was decent.
This was better than the Inheritance even though still a condensed 30 day window. Braden seemed to be a very interesting character. I couldn't get a feel for his age but had her at around 28-29. Too easy to fall in love with exception of Cato since he knew Maizy the longest. Her sister was a weird add to the storyline. I liked the heat between her an Anson, even if he also was an extraverted addition. Von just sorta feel in there but loved the concept of the non-profit to bring them all together.
This is nearly a clone of the first two books in the series.
I bought the series as a bundle through audible, so I have one more book to finish. These are fairly repetitive, formulaic, HEA, why choose/reverse harem stories. This has some unresolved stuff at the end. But it’s an easy fluffy read.
This one has some fatphobia, about one of the MMCs being fat when he was younger and therefore unattractive to women, which was body shaming I didn’t appreciate.
This story is ok. I wish there was more about the guys building their relationship with the other guys. Unfortunately it seems like most the time spent together with the lady results in sex... I wish the relationship with the guys and lady had progressed faster. It was an ok story.
Good book. Same basic plot as Mika's others like this. Girl needs a man, girl finds 4 men, can't decide and keeps them all. Some steamy scenes with each guy helped build their characters. Overall a good read
I’m only 20% in but throwing in the towel. Feels very shallow. And, oh, I don’t know - but if I worked in a place where my boss told me I had to at least be engaged, if not married, to get promoted, I think I’d be looking for another job, rather than pay $1,000/month to a matchmaking service!
I love this type of storyline. It is out of the normal box of books I read. I love finding authors that have a way of bringing me back to books I would never think about reading.
I think this book was meant to just be a fun good time because it felt too easy haha. All the guys were on board, none of them had issues with her being shared, they went along with what she wanted even though she wasn't transparent about it. But it was a fun read.
This book was really fun and I love how each book in this series has different men with all different personalities. Although these books have the same formula in each, it's like a breath of fresh air to meet the new characters that make me swoon.
