This book has been sitting on my Kindle for over a few years and I figured it was time to check it out. I seem to be having trouble finding books lately that “WOW” me! I had decided to go back to some of the older books I have bought but not yet read! I am happy to say that I did enjoy this first book in the “Ride” series quite a bit!
There were a few issues I had, but on the whole it was an enjoyable read!

My one complaint was the instant love that Cole felt for Scarlet! He literally met her and then went full speed ahead to obtain her in anyway he could! Once I realized he was going after her like that, I adjusted, and then it didn’t bother me too much! I love alpha- males and he was a major alpha!

My other peeve was I found there were a few phrases that were said a lot... mainly Cole grabbing Scarlet’s neck. It happened a lot. It was how he held her... basically by the back of her neck! It was mentioned so much!

Other than that I did enjoy this book, and I am eager to keep reading this series! Sal and Kat are up next and I am very eager for it! Sal is a bit of a darker, mysterious character and I am dying to learn more about him!

Definitely an MC series that should be up with some of the better ones! I shouldn’t have waited so long to read it!!!

OMG!!!!! I FREAKIN' LOVED THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (And again, it is books like this, that I NEVER REGRET buying from Amazon on a whim!!) Cole was ALL THAT and a BAG OF SEX too, LOL!!! He was just so ALPHA, but OH-SO-SWEET... *SWOON*

While it did remind me in parts of Sweet Dreams and Motorcycle Man by KA, it certainly wasn't a rip off in any way, shape or form. What an EXCELLENT and KICK-ASS debut Megan and I seriously CANNOT WAIT to read Sal and Kat's story now!!!! PLEASE, don't make me wait too long!!!!

I liked how Cole wanted Scarlet immediately but a few things bugged me in the beginning with his behavior. But for a MC book it was pretty tame...so pretty decent.

4.5 stars I really loved both Cole and Scarlet. Loved all of the secondary characters. Loved that Cole was all in once he knew Scarlet!! Loved that she didn't put up much of a fight even though she had a good reason behind her trust issues. Just loved!!

On to the next.

yes.. wow.. loved this..

Those are my thoughts. A hero who is all in from the start and a heroine who doesn't take crap from anyone. I loved it all and with my issues that says a lot. Yes Cole had a past and yep some of it showed up but equally so did the heroine and hers was a little more than just drama. So to me I call this one even ground. Loved Cole so very much. He was absolutely wonderful.

can't wait for more. Sal you got a lot of work to do.

#SafeWithException #SafeForMe

ow and om drama both hero and heroine were faithful and true from first sight.

Scarlet Malone ran once and found a place to settle where she has followed a quiet life in her carefully constructed bubble. Just because Scarlet keeps to herself, with the exception of her best friend, it doesn't mean Scarlet can't stick up for herself. When she meets Cole Jackson for the first time, she has him pegged. He is a biker, one night stand type of guy and Scarlet is not interested. Cole is though and doesn't relent trying to get to know Scarlet. The more he knows the more he is sure she is destined to be his old lady. Now to get Scarlet on board, but she is not going to agree quietly.

This is a sit down and pop a squat book. I picked it up an did not put it down. The beginning with Scarlet at the mechanics had me cracking up and I was sold. Sassy firecracker Scarlet gives Cole a run for his money, she is vocal, not a pushover, and sometimes finds her inner biker babe. Great story, going to definitely read more from this talented author.

The way this couple hooks up really had me eye-rolling, but after the shallowness and stupidity of it, I kind of liked the idea of them together. This is mainly due to their past connection, which is touched upon, but not highlighted to the story's advantage, IMO.

This story has both the typical and the sassy in it. Typically, biker-child turned woman on-the-run meets gorgeous bad-boy biker, son of the MC president. She hedges and he claims, but after some more of that, and some tell-tale drama, they do the business.

Yet, this couple found a little bit of rhythm. The heroine, Scarlett, gives in to the inevitable, becomes an old lady with sass and a bit of responsibility. She demands monogamy and respect. Also, she knows that she brings trouble with her, which results in endangering the life of her best friend and putting her old man's MC at risk.
“Do I have enough baggage for you yet?”
The conflict involves a little depth, Scarlett's past relationship gone bad with a guy, a killer, who is clearly deranged and obsessed with her.

So, here is where the characterization fails to really capture me; the dialogue as well as the characters' actions fall short of making a connection or being significant to the plot.

The hero, Cole, is hella alpha and beats his chest in tandem to fight for his woman. Typical. Annoyingly, Scarlett plays the "you are all better off without me coz I don't want you hurt" card, and she makes a TSTL move. The villain gets away with way too much, but in his frenzy, nothing unfolds to offer terrible insight, imagery about the past or evolution of the villain's motives, points of which might have made the heroine's plight more significant and the connection between two MC's more poignant. In the end, all that mirrors is what this story could have had to be a better one: depth.

It just missed the mark, but it wasn't horrible...if you need a biker fix.

I read this because who doesn't like a good biker book? This one had the potential to be great because it had great elements. However, for me, it needed to be fleshed out more.

What I enjoyed:
• Scarlet's background
• Cole's overall demeanor (Alpha baby)
• the camaraderie of all the side characters
• the elements of suspense from Jake
• the pacing and easy flow of the writing

What I didn't much enjoy:
• the fact that Scarlet always had something to say. I liked her feistiness but sometimes it was unnecessary
• the lack of details (I.E. Cole's missing mom was just thrown out there. Wtf?!)
• I like fast paced books but I needed more info
• how much time was given to Kat and Sal when they have their own book
• the fact that this is told entirely from Scarlet's POV

Overall, it was a good book and I'd read others from this author.

“Before you I had everything so controlled. I had a grasp on every feeling, every step I made. Then I met you and my world just exploded with emotion and people and life,” I breathed. “And I don’t know how to trust the happiness and safety that I feel with you, I’ve never had anything like it. Anything close has been ripped away.”

Scarlett Rose Malone is a former MC princess who left her club behind 8 years ago after her President father died under shady circumstances. She has trauma in her past that has made her want to live a life that is tightly controlled, rigid and secretive. While it has worked to keep her safe, it has also dug a deep hole of loneliness in her heart. Enters Cole Jackson, a biker intent on pursuing her, even as she tries to tell herself again and again that she does not want back in the club life again.

“I’ve been patient and tried to let you figure it out in your own time, but clearly that isn’t gonna happen,” he sighed, exasperated. “Babe, I’ve staked my claim. You’re mine. You’ve been mine since you got on the back of my bike."

Cole is not your typical asshole biker character. Does he make mistakes? Yes. But he is not above admitting them and properly atoning for them. As a reader, I never doubted his core loyalty and love for the woman who quickly became the center of his life. For readers who stay away from biker books because of the constant issues of cheating and abusing that we see from so many biker anti-heroes, I think they would be pleasantly surprised.

But what appealed to me the most in this story was how strong, kick-ass, smart and dignified Scarlett was. She is not a Mary Sue. She just knows her worth and won't let anyone fuck with her, not even the man that she loves. I loved the dressing down she gave to Cole when he deserved it, without resorting to being a hysterical bitch about it. There should be a happy medium between being a doormat and a hellion, and Scarlett has found it.

The only thing that could have improved, and I am really really nit-picking here because I really liked this story, was that the burn between them could have been stoked a while longer. I love me a slow burn :)

I don't know if this was just the right book at the right time but I really enjoyed Cole, it has some great characters, especially Cole and Scarlett. Cole is tall, handsome and definitely an alpha male and Scarlett was a feisty and beautiful woman who didn't get on my nerves at all, which is a bit of a rarity these days. Not only do I like the characters, main and secondary but they came wrapped up in an interesting story, can't wait for the next one.

I've been wanting to read this book for awhile now. But I always have to be in the mood for the genre I want to read. I loved this book it was fab. 4 Cole and Scarlet Stars.

Scarlet is running away from her past and to right as well that she is doing it. She lives with her best friend Kat and leads a quiet life.

That is until one day she needs to get her car serviced and bumps in to Cole. Now Cole is blond and blue eyed not the usual type I go fpr in books but he was hawt and friggin amazing.

Eventually Scarlet's past catches up with her. For where she comes with and who her father was. She is not a spoiled princess. She is down to earth.

Ms. O'Brien creates an awesome plot with in-depth characters that I ended up reading the second book straight after this one.

“I’ve been patient and tried to let you figure it out in your own time but clearly that isn’t gonna happen,” he sighed, exasperated. “Babe, I’ve staked my claim. You’re mine. You’ve been mine since you got on the back of my bike,” he decreed.

I knew not long after starting this one, it was going to be a guilty pleasure read. Damsel in distress and in hiding, hot/bossy biker...oh yeah, this had my name all over it from the very first page. Sad but true =)

“I know that you’re as hard as nails as you are soft and sweet, and you’ve got something I want not only to protect, but selfishly something I want for myself, too..."

This was definitely a quick read, with instant lust/love and little depth to the characters or development in the story. Cole was a hottie with a definite sweet side, Scarlet was pretty cool, and together they worked just fine for me. Sweet and sexy!

“So wet already,” his deep voice rumbled with pleasure. “I like that, baby.”

I kissed him passionately in response, my fingers twisting into his hair. My hand traveled down his body as I took him into my hand. He sucked in a harsh breath and grabbed my ass with his free hand. He continued to work between my legs until I was panting and completely lost to his touch.

“Hop up darlin’,” he directed, pulling my ass up so that my legs wrapped around his waist.

“Oh shit,” I said and I sucked in a breath as he pressed me into the wall and slid inside me with one thrust.

“Tell me if it’s too much,” he rasped, forcing himself not to move.

My body felt deliciously full with him inside of me at this angle and I didn’t want him to hold back.

“I will, just give it to me,” I practically begged.

If you're looking for a quick biker read that you can read in a couple hours and not expect to much out of, this is worth a look. Part biker/mc story, part soap opera, it definitely qualifies as a quilty pleasure but so what...I liked it!

As soon as book two is annouced which will be Kat and Sal's story, it's going on my TBR list!

This is pretty much the book for the first 20%
Lead chick (forgot her name already) - "I would never date a biker" like an hour later she is on the back of his bike going back to his house, even though she doesnt know him at all (it is also hinted she is hiding/trying to avoid bikers) and the only reason she thinks he is ok is because his friends said he was a good guy, the following day she is making out with the dude naked.. like what-the-fuck-ever its a bunch of bloody nonsense.

Should you read this book?

Well what a pleasant surprise this one was. A strong heroine that is so far from TSTL it's not true (thank God!), a hot hero that is patient, caring and alpha and sub characters that I am waiting with baited breath for them to get their own books.

It was a quick easy read that I really needed right now, and a great introduction to the series.

Re-read May 2016 because I never got further than this book and had the rest of the series on my Kindle for ages.

I heard great things about this book so when I finished my previous book (which I loved) I decided to go for this one. I love a biker book but I can't do cheating yeah I know it happens but I read for happy so I had high expectations for this book add to that usually when I read a book that I like as much as the one before this one the next book almost always falls flat, but this one didn't fall flat it wasn't ok, it wasn't good, it was freaking great! I loved this book so much I'm upset I finished it and so soon and even more upset that I have to wait for book two.

Scarlet has been on the run, growing up in a MC she knew about the lifestyle but events made her fear for her life and run and she hasn't looked back. Now in a new town Scarlet is more guarded than ever knowing she has to stay on alert, so when she is offered a ride by a handsome man who is a biker Scarlet knows she can't have anything to do with him but Cole has other ideas. And soon Scarlet finds herself agreeing to a date. Growing up in a MC Scarlet knows what happens in most relationships and she wants none of that. But the more time Scarlet and Cole spend together the more Scarlet finds herself falling and trusting Cole.

As Cole and Scarlet are finding their way together Scarlet's past comes back and makes it known that Scarlet and anyone by her isn't safe. But Cole will do anything to keep her safe and the MC quickly comes together to keep Scarlet safe. As much as they try they may not be able to keep her safe and Scarlet will have to decide what she is willing to risk and do to keep not only herself safe but to keep the relationship that Cole and Scarlet never saw coming but quickly find becomes there whole world.

I loved this book, I have a week spot for bikers and tough guys and Cole fit the bill to a T. He was one of the best hero's I have read about in a long time. From beginning to end I LOVED Cole and want more of him. He was tough and possessive and strong and loving. Scarlet was a great heroine she wasn't stupid like some heroines that make you want to shake them, she was smart and strong and yet vulnerable and kind. The story and world building was excellent in this book. I never found myself wanting less of the side characters in fact I wanted more so much so that I can not wait for the rest of this series.

This is a series I am very very excited about. Many series that I have started lately have just fallen away after I read a book and I never care to pick up another in the series but this series will be completely different I can already tell. I love not only this series but this author. Usually when there is a new series that I'm excited about I will like the leading characters and the ones who will get a book in the future but I have to say I loved all of the characters in this book. Cole's dad even though he wasn't a huge part of this book was a characters that I loved and *gasp* I even liked one of Cole's ex's and I have never ever ever said that before but that author wrote it so well that I did like her. I can't wait for more I really, really, really, hope we don't have to wait long for the next book in this series.

ORIGINAL REVIEW 2014
4 Stars
I really enjoyed this book. It's the first one of the series and is about Cole and Scarlett. It was well written. Really likeable characters. Easy to read and had me hooked from page one. Not as gritty as some MC books but I prefer that. Will definitely be reading Kat and Sal's story.

4.5 Cole and Scarlet Stars

Someone on Goodreads had liked my original review from 2014 which prompted me to have a look back and I saw that more books have come out , including a Second Generation series, so my plans to read more 'new to me' books just met an early end. I have embarked on a re read that will lead me up to the new books.
I enjoyed this very much, even more than the last time. I do love an MC read and it's been a while since I delved into one. Right time, right book.
Cole and Scarlet are meant for each other - this book definitely has serendipitous vibes. There is some violence, some OW drama (inevitable in most MC reads). They do fall in love very quickly but it fits both them and their story.

HEA? More HFN
Cheating? Absolutely not.

General Thoughts on Series
I was cleaning out my kindle (dealing with my TBR list, or as I like to call it, The Mountain) reinforces that I may be a bookhoarder, but on occasion I find some hidden gems on there. I’d gotten the first three books of this series just sitting there, and once I start, I’m compelled to keep going.

I think I’d recommend this series for those who are way into the romance, and just want a touch of the MC life. To paraphrase Wedding Crashers,
“I'm sure you'd love to be free, maybe go out and meet some biker guy that can … make you feel dangerous but also safe.”

THAT’s this series in a nutshell. Yes, there’s some questionable women and some danger, but overall, it’s a comfort kind of read. The WTF-ery level is a 2, at most. The downsides are that alot of the action that leads to the danger, the actual MC stuff, happens off-page because it’s strictly first person POV from the individual heroines. But if that doesn’t bug you and you mostly want some sweet loving with some tattooed bikers, you may enjoy this.

Specific to Cole
Cole and Scarlet - While there’s some insta-love, they don’t automatically dive into bed and there’s some good twists to the usual takes on the genre when it comes to the sweetbutts, which I liked. Overall, a good start.

Cole was an ok book for me. The first part was really good and I was loving it. Cole was super sexy and a total alpha that I was loving. Unfortunately by the 50% mark it fell flat for me, I was bored and ready to move on. It's not that it was a bad book it just was to sweet for my taste. The club was clean and there is really no action. It's just mainly Cole and Scarlet and a problem from Scarlet's past. Overall it's a light MC but I would read another in this series.

Been awhile since I have read an MC book.

This was probably more MC light.

It is not really too deep, but if you want an enjoyable quick read, without too much angst and characters you like then it is great. The heroine was not a door mat and the hero was sweet while still being tough.

And I straight away bought the rest of the series.

A very enjoyable 4 stars

4.5 Stars!
This biker book had it all, a bad ass heroine, and even badder hero, the alpha male that beats his chest, a harley, and a whole lot of angst!

Scarlet is on the run from a past she has been trying to escape for the past 8 years when she runs into Cole at a auto shop where she is getting her car fixed. Cole tries making conversation however falls flat since Scarlett swore she doesn't want anything to do with Bikers. She has been living a hermit life style for the past years, reading, eating, working and sleeping..
So what happens when the baddest biker in town, a VP at that takes notice but all you want to do is keep everything under the radar? I loved it, Scar was bad ass, no taking shit from anyone type a gal, there was no whining, no nagging, a definitely no V card to find!

Great read!

I have had this book sitting in my Kindle for over a year and I'm so mad at myself for not reading this sooner. I love this genre, therefore I've read a ton of MC romance books ~ some light, most , more hardcore. There are a few things that will make any book I'm reading a five star. One of these are characters that are likable. Both Cole and Scarlet kept it real; their personalities were strong, they were who they were and made no apologies for it, yet the love between them never faltered. Next, the storyline kept my interest. There was the perfect balance of thrills, angst, and hotness (Cole is smoking!) I also loved how the chapters flowed at a perfect pace letting the story unfold in a timely fashion (no constant repeating of trying to get a point across). Finally, Megan O'Brien's attention to the ideal amount of detail, along with spot on grammar and sentence structure, gave this book the perfect start to this series. Nice job ~ I'd absolutely recommend this read.

I loved this. I can't believe it sat in my tbr for almost 2 years.

Cole is seriously the perfect hero, so romantic, protective but never an alpha-hole. Loved Scarlet too, the right balance and no shrewish behavior.

Basically princess of another MC meets son of other MC's president and instant attraction. Loved the secondary characters. Kat was a true friend and I can't wait to start her book with Sal

First person from Scarlet's perspective, would have liked a little from Cole but the author makes sure you know what he's feeling.

Second read October 2016 - Changed from 4 to 5 Stars Even better second time around

First read March 9th 2014
First book by this author for me and I will be reading the next one in the series. The author has the ability to engage me fully with the characters and reading this book was enjoyable. The H, Cole, is a typical alpha, possessive male but also shows tenderness, compassion and deep love for the h. The h, Scarlet, is not a weak heroine. She shows a fiery personality and independence, although at times her decisions were questionable. The book reminded me in many ways of KA's writing style and there were phrases that took me back to KA i.e. Babe, handle you with care, etc. That is not to say this book is a knock off of KA, it is entirely a different book. I loved the way Cole treats the h and the deep love the author was able to portray. All of the secondary characters were good and I can see the possibility of many more books in the series. I'm looking forward to Sal/Kat's story next. Cudo's from me to this first time author. I almost rated the book 5 stars so I settled for 4.5 stars for me. The book has good editing/formatting and has no cheating and a HEA.
