Lizzie Beaumont has it all: a great career, a wealthy fiancé, and the wedding of her dreams just months away. But when her fiancé puts work before her again, she sets off for a week in the picturesque town of Hope Cove. She’s hoping for time away from the chaos to find herself.
Instead, she finds Max.
When the gorgeous guy next door asks her for decorating help, Lizzie finds herself all too eager to please. The week she expected to drag suddenly flies by, and before she knows it, she has to return to her other life. The life with the impending marriage and the fiancé she loves.
Or does she?
One week with Max has left her questioning her life choices. Is her fiancé the man of her dreams, or just the man who asked? Now Lizzie must decide what her life will be. Will she go for the safe and predictable route, or take a chance on a man she hardly knows? No matter what she does, someone’s heart is going to break. She just doesn’t want it to be hers.
Hannah Ellis spent many years working in childcare before deciding she'd like to write books. When she's not busy writing she likes to read, drink tea and eat chocolate. She also enjoys yoga and jogging.
This is a proper feel good book and I can't wait to read the next book. I was really glad that Elizabeth finally changed her life and the ending was just lovely. Recently found that I love reading this kind of genre much more than I do any other. It's cheerful and happy
Although considered a romance I would call it more of a self discovery book. Ellis has developed a great character in Elizabeth who is the poster girl for the modern woman. Elizabeth has everything, great job, great career, great fiance, great house and is planning the perfect wedding. She and her fiance are supposed to go on a week long holiday to a seaside village but her workaholic fiance can not make it. It is the week long stay in a wonderful seaside cottage that changes Elizabeth's life forever. The book is so good I read it in one night.
This story is believable with just the right amount of wonder of the next happening in the story line. Hannah Ellis has the ability to pull you right into the environment of the book as well as into caring about what is happening to each of the characters. Even minor characters are well developed and interesting! As a reader I was fully engaged in the main character Elizabeth (Lizzie) as she found happiness and purpose with her life. It was a joy to read this and I could not put it down all day.
💕Will her visit to 🌊Hope Cove 🌅propel Elizabeth down a scary, new path to career and romantic fulfillment?🌈 May 10, 2018 Format: Kindle Edition 👍👍A lovely, sweet and well-written 💛romance that keeps you wondering and guessing until the end. Both hero Max and heroine Elizabeth are engaged to others when they meet at the Devon 🌊seaside and connect. There's a lot of tension as both struggle with how they want to act and how they should as they weigh their attraction to each other against their established lifestyles and relationships in Oxford and London.
The story is all told from Elizabeth's POV and, at times, I wished I had a chance to get into Max's head, but the single POV did bring some added tension as I waited to find out, along with Elizabeth, what was happening with Max and if and when they would reconnect.
In addition to the main romance, I enjoyed the other relationships explored, especially Elizabeth's milquetoast one with fiance Phil, her evolving one with her younger sister Josie, and her friendship with Karen, her boss and friend.
And the quaint coastal village of Hope Cove is lovingly portrayed in its natural summer splendor, and sympathetically described even in bleak, draughty winter, thanks to its friendly inhabitants and their sense of community.
To me, this was the perfect mix of chick lit and women's fiction. At heart, it's an engaging story of transformation as a woman examines her life and decides to take control of her destiny and work on the changes needed to achieve her true happiness. I enjoyed every minute, even the sad times, because I had high hopes for her ability to do the right thing and get her Kharmic reward!:-)
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Elizabeth starts the book being an uptight workaholic who is trying to organise her perfect wedding to a man that she has been with for years. She doesn’t get on with her sister, and her main goal in life is to become editor in chief of the magazine she works for. When she goes on a holiday to Hope Cove (by herself because her fiancé is too busy working) we see how Elizabeth starts to change. Mostly due to meeting the next door neighbour, Max. I really enjoyed seeing how Elizabeth made her choices, and the ending was great. A perfect summer, beach read! I have already downloaded another book by this author because I enjoyed this one so much.
I am new to Hannah's writing ...such a great cover, enjoyable read. love reading about an Elizabeth ...I mean it is my namesake. lol!! but Lizzie ...never call me that. i would die! romance read. I look forward to reading more from Hannah soon enough! who doesn't love a seaside cottage? i can see it in my mind. so dreamable. what fun!! fast quick read for me. ( ;
This is cute and relaxing, just a happy story about finding what’s most important in your life and going for it. It’s nice to imagine people doing that and seeing it work for them.
Didn’t like the writing and thought it was getting going and gonna get steamy but didn’t. Short sentences throughout just made it a bit stunted and simplistic. Just meh
I can’t go on. I loathe Lizzie. She comes across as utterly shallow, immature and selfish. The only person I care about is Phil. He deserved much better ... I just hope he gets to Paris and falls madly in love with a wonderful woman who adores him.
Not rating. Perhaps I should have guessed from the blurb that this would be like this. I hate stories where decent, hard working people are simply cast aside without any care.
The only problem I had with this book was the overall pacing of it. Elizabeth was I believe us women can go through when we think we have it all. A holiday vacation can put things into perspective Elizabeth meets Max there is instant chemistry and a bond that forms but he is with someone else and not happy. The thing is they develop feelings but think they are crazy going back to normal lives but both thinking of one another. One misunderstanding leads Elizabeth to be unhappy but happy her and Max reunite and both think they are with their partners but I loved how it came together in the end. They truly had their happy ever after right at the end
This was such a lovely book. I read all of the Lock Lannick series by this author over 3 years ago, and am not sure why I waited so long to read more. I'm so glad I read The Cottage At Hope Cove. Elizabeth was a woman in a high stress career in a ten year relationship with Phil also in an equally high stress job. When she makes an arrangement for them to take a week-long vacation, Phil puts work first and won't go. So after second guessing herself, she decides to go on her own to stay in the rental cottage by the sea in Devon. This small act of independence leads to a complete change in her life.
I am looking forward to reading more in this series.
This was an enjoyable read. I am a sucker for the small town lifestyle romance. This book really intrigued me from the start. Alice is going on a vacation with her fiancé when he inevitably cannot go, she is then sucked into the life of the neighbor. I was rather disappointed in the "miscommunication" or rather her not asking a simple question that would have changed the last little bit of the book. BUT because it was at the end and the rest was really good I still gave this book 4 stars.
Took a little while to get into this book (possibly book hungover from my last read!) Once I was a few more chapters in I began to enjoy it and soon became intrigued about what was going to happen next. I do enjoy reading about characters that change their lives, move away or take on a new work challenge and this had both! I loved watching the sisters overcoming their past niggles with each other and become friends. A very heartwarming book. 😊
Narrator: Loved the narration on this. Katie Villa was the perfect voice for this novel.
Story: What a lovely heartfelt story. Very relatable, finding yourself stuck & comfortable in your current relationship... You find yourself cheering the couple on, hoping they make it.
I’ve just finished reading my first book by Hannah Ellis. The story was so believable and very entertaining. It was so easy to picture in my mind the characters Elizabeth and Max. Can’t wait to read the Hope Cove series. I may have found my next favorite author.
First book for me by this author, loved it. Kept my interest from start to finish and I have already purchased another of her books (and added the rest to my reading list), good, fun chic lit.
Loved this book!! Couldn't put it down! The characters are interesting and you get a real sense of them in the story! Elizabeth is such a relatable person you really end up feeling for her through the trials she faces. Not your usual boy meets girl rom com. Highly recommend!
Really enjoyed this light, predictable romance. Good bit of escapism during the Coronavirus pandemic. I was drawn because I know Hope Cove well (we took our elder two boys on holiday there 40 years ago, the eldest developing measles on the journey down!) , and have walked the coastal path through it. I I look forward to further stories from Hope Cove.
