About the author

Di Toft was born in the black and white olden days of 1958, in Watford, Herts. A move to Somerset ten years later reinforced her love of the countryside and animals.

At school, she bribed friends to read her early stories, which were usually about vampires or ponies, or people being electrocuted in the bath. Some stories featured vampires and ponies, which wasn’t always a popular combination.

During the long hot summer of 1975, Di left school to find most of the best jobs were being done by other people. Her varied career has led to jobs in advertising, sales, and watching people dig holes in the road. She has also edited publications as well as written editorial and advertising features for newspapers and magazines. Although a very early ambition to become Dr. Who’s assistant was sadly unfulfilled, she is delighted that her other ambition - to be a published writer - came to pass in 2001, when she sold her first story to a magazine.

Di lives in Somerset with her husband and daughter; her grown-up son lives in London. Sharing the house is Dave, a dog so large he can actually be seen from space on Google Earth.

Solid ending

I was sad about Teddy's fate (and his father's).

I didn't understand why human girls are supposedly too weak to become werewolves and why girls with wolven ancestry don't ever shape shift. Normally, "rules" like that would be followed up with "... because if they do survive becoming wolves, they're more powerful than their male counterparts." (Random example. Not creative on my part. But at least it's something. Better than making them weak and keeping them weak - or dead - because they're girls.)

Having always loved werewolf stories, I really enjoyed this final instalment in the series.  I actually enjoyed it more than the second book and I liked the ending. 

My one disappointment (and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars) is that whilst the author is a woman, it feels like the book is aimed more towards boys rather than girls. The talk of girls not making good werewolves as they're too weak to survive the transition was disappointing. Had I read this as a child it would have reinforced the belief that girls are weak, and werewolves and other cool mythical creatures are only for boys.

The third book of three, this story tells of Nat and Woody fight against the werewolf who wants their lives. He had joined with an evil Demon and they race Nat and Woody to find an artifact which could end the world. Great book

Great read i love this series

In Wolfling 1 zijn Nat en zijn beste vriend Woody, een wolfling, met moeite uit de klauwen van de slechte weerwolf Lucas Scale ontsnapt. Nat was zwaargewond en heeft het enkel overleefd door een bloedtransfusie met wolflingenbloed. In Wolfling 2 hebben de twee jongens naar Woodys roedel gezocht en zijn ze de strijd aan gegaan met vampiers. Vampiers die waren opgeroepen door Scale. En inWolfling 3 laat Scale opnieuw van zich horen. Hij brengt de slechte weerwolven bij elkaar om op zoek te gaan naar een allesverwoestend voorwerp. Als hij dat voorwerp te pakken krijgt, zal de wereld niet langer bewoonbaar zijn voor mensen. Door een afspraak met een demon heeft hij ook nog eens enge krachten gekregen waardoor hij nu nog moeilijker te verslaan is, zo kan hij doden uit hun graf laten opstaan. Terwijl Nat en Woody worden achtervolgd door zombies en woeste wolven, moeten ze door tijd en ruimte reizen om Scale te stoppen. Maar zijn ze niet al te laat?

Moeilijke periode
Voor Nat breekt een moeilijke periode aan in dit derde deel. Hij heeft zijn transformaties nog minder onder controle dan in Wolfling 2 en blijft halverwege steken. Hij voelt zich een monster en mensen schrikken van zijn gezicht. Zijn uiterlijk zorgt voor een emotionele dip, waardoor het duidelijk is dat Di Toft van Wolfling 3 meer wilde maken dan een gewoon verhaal over vriendschap met enge wezens.
Helaas is de uitwerking van deze worsteling niet dusdanig overtuigend dat het veel toevoegt aan het verhaal. Het is enkel nodig om Nat op bepaalde momenten even bezig te houden met iets anders dan met de actie, maar het had net zo goed om iets kunnen gaan als een pijnlijke kont met rode lijntjes door die eeuwige knelbroek bij het wisselen.

W ostatnim tomie trylogii Nat Carver i jego przyjaciel Woody będą musieli zmierzyć się ponownie ze swoim śmiertelnym wrogiem, który zwoła do pomocy całą armię wilkołaków. Jakby tego było mało, Nat napotyka na problemy związane ze swoją zmiennokształtnością – a to na pewno nie pomoże w walce ze złem!

To jest jedna z tych trylogii dla dzieci, które miło czyta się również dorosłym. Podoba mi się sam zamysł fabularny oraz pomysły na budowę postaci. Ponadto ten tom wprowadza jeszcze więcej ciekawych pomysłów (lubicie zombie?) i ukazuje rozwój bohaterów w stosunku do pierwszej książki z serii.

Również przyjacielska więź między wilkenem a Natem została bardzo przyjemnie wyrysowana. Widać, że chłopcom na sobie zależy i się o siebie troszczą. To jedna z tych książek, gdzie nie tylko ta biologiczna rodzina, ale też ci, których poznajemy po drodze zajmują ważne miejsca w naszych sercach.

Niestety jednak było parę zgrzytów, miałam wrażenie, że książka była nieco na siłę przedłużana. Bohaterom co rusz się coś nie udawało i stawało się to bardzo przewidywalne. Można było to trochę inaczej rozegrać i zakończyć. Jednak właśnie sama końcówka nie zawiodła – mały zwrot akcji pod koniec oraz lekko otwarte zakończenie moim zdaniem idealnie wpisały się w fabułę powieści.

Bohaterów trudno nie lubić – to rozsądni i dobrzy chłopcy, którzy za wszelką cenę starali się bronić siebie i innych przed niebezpieczeństwem. Myślę, że trylogia spodoba się dzieciom lubiącym historie z dreszczykiem, ale dorośli z pewnością też znajdą tutaj coś dla siebie. Ja mimo wszystko bawiłam się dobrze i na pewno były to przyjemne książki.
