Yoshihiro Togashi (冨樫義博) is a manga artist. Credited in Chinese translations as Fu Jian Yi Bo.
He began drawing manga at an early age; while he attended college, the publisher Shueisha recognized his talent. Togashi has authored numerous manga series in different genres during the past three decades. He is perhaps best known for writing and illustrating the YuYu Hakusho and Hunter × Hunter series, both of which have been published in the popular Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. Togashi is married to Naoko Takeuchi, the author of Sailor Moon.
Am I the outlier here? I couldn’t care less about this Greed Island arc.. (it could be because I detest card games).. I’m bored to tears and in need of escaping this stupid island. I don’t caaaaaaare.
Definitely seems like we're heading towards of the Greed Island arc at this stage, now that some of the teams are so close to finishing - one team even has 96 / 100! Honestly, I really want Gon (and his team) to win, but I'm not sure they have a chance 8'D I just hope it's not the team with "The Bomber" on it that's the one to win the final prize :|
Pretty funny that one of the "battles" that they need to do is basically THE most intense game of dodgeball you could ever play 8'D Hopefully they manage it okay... and also don't get their card stolen off them if they do win!
I admire Togashi's confidence to go all in on whatever idea he adds to this series. Nen is thoroughly explained and built up through the series. Each arc has different characters aside from Gon, Killua, and usually Hisoka. He made a huge bet on implementing this card system for Greed Island, which has totally paid off and given the arc a creative twist. He makes similar leaps of faith when putting roadblocks in our heroes' path (such as a sport competition that segues into forming a new team, which segues back into the competition, which concludes with an intense game of super powered dodgeball). Because the these challenges often aren't a fight to the death (or their deadliness can be averted), we're able to get these challenges that pose the very real risk of our heroes failing. Oftentimes the triumph comes in the form of getting a good hit in on Hisoka, or strategically getting captured, or staying in the fight long enough for your opponent to give up, or just surviving a hit from the dodgeball. From top to bottom, this series is set up to surprise the reader. You never know what you're gonna get or how it will play out.
My most favorite battle fight in Greed Island arc, maybe even in all of HxH, the Deadly Dodgeball Game!!! Omg, there's nothing more exciting than seeing Gon and Killua teaming up with Hisoka to win the game. Watching the opening theme of this arc in anime, I was so hyped up after seeing Gon, Killua and Hisoka with their backs together and I knew even from the start of this arc that their will be an epic battle.
Excited for the rest of the game in the next volume.
PS: Naked Hisoka is life. I'm basically Bisky the whole time!
This whole greed island stuff is so confusing, but I'm still enjoying it since I just love the characters, the setting and the artstyle. They teamed up with Hisoka (maybe controversial opinion, but I don't understand how there are Hisoka fans out there, I mean yeah, his aesthetic is a massive slay, but this dude is SO problematic omg aaaah) and they now started playing the legendary dodgeball game against Razor and his 14 devils lezzgooo. I loved this part in the anime, it was so fucking epic (and yeah I have to admit, even though I don't like him as a character, Hisoka and his bungee gum 10/10 in this game), so I'm really excited for the next volume:D
This is my favourite volume of the series thus far, maybe because it's full of sports manga goodness? While this starts out with some strategy it quickly devolves into some great action with a lot of big hits. It looks like Gon and Killua are finally at a point where they can actually put some force behind their moves instead of just strategy and a bit of grit. The 'challenges' are neat but the way this big climactic fight is one big sports game makes me laugh, I don't know how much longer Greed Island is going on for but we're reaching the end on a high note.
GOD DAMN RAZOR. YOU A FUCKING BEAST. also... hisoka... HES BACK. YIPEE. and ... his body is tea what can i SAY. i really enjoy that we are still able to see the troupe and what the fuck they are doing and plotting and if it means we are one step closer to getting chrollo vs hisoka IM THERE. lets see some more fucking dodgeball!
This one was so good I didn't have time to do my little updates. I just kept reading through the whole dang thing. I'll have to be more diligent in the next volume.
Togashi is so amazing I don't even know were to begin. He manages to improve a series I already thought was nearly perfect to begin with. Killua is such a smart character with simply taking into account Bisky's supposition he managed to properly decipher what was going on with Hisoka. After gathering enough teammates, they begin their matches against Laser's team only for him to change it all to a match of doge-ball. With this, the action packed match begins.

Having been through this arc in the anime, I am even more awed from the manga. The whole Greed Island concept cannot be overstated - Togashi created his own card game with intricate spells and tactics. Furthermore, he then found loopholes in his own game and applied them to the characters' actions, creating an authentic game and narrative.
Also, the fact that the story presents characters well into the game in conjunction with our novice heroes makes for some efficient and helpful storytelling. As a storyteller myself, I recognize this as masterful work.
Rundown:
- Bomber (aka Genthru) has a quick scene, but is overall relegated to a looming presence throughout this volume. This arc is now a game of collecting and monopolizing hard-to-get cards so Bomber cannot complete the set. Typing that out makes it seem like a bland plot, but it's not!
- Though Gon, Killua, and Bisky aren't super far along the game - they are about halfway through - they have figured out tricks to get some hard-to-get cards, which makes them valuable when they meet up with the group of players trying to outlast Bomber. The scene is probably more for the reader to better understand the situation at hand and further rules of the game, but is still rather compelling. The difference between Killua's tactful words and Gon's open mouth is on full display here.
- The gang goes in search of a card which nobody in the game has, and it's perhaps the most compelling saga of Greed Island thus far. After fulfilling the conditions to challenge some pirates to leave the island, the group is challenged to beat the pirates in good-ol-fashioned SPORTS. However, the team is weaksauce as is, so the strong players must recruit other strong players. That leads to...
- HISOKA. NAKED. ERECT. The Spider subplot is acknowledged but not really furthered. We'll tackle that later.
- Gon, Killua, Bisky and Hisoka meet up with Tsezguerra and recruit his team to take down the pirates. I really like him, especially as he internally analyzes Gon and Killua. Tsezguerra is a legit hunter, as advertised, and has some sound logic about him. To a lesser extent, Goreinu is a pretty decent filler character as well. It's more realistic in a story when, every now and then, you come across a competent figure who just so happens to be a good guy.
- Razor, the "leader" of the pirates, knows Ging, which just further adds to the legacy of Gon's long-lost father. Also, Razor is terrifying! That panel after he realizes who Gon is haunting, letting us know that the upcoming dodgeball game won't be fun for its players. Also confirmed, if you didn't catch on already, Greed Island is a real place! And these pirates are real life criminals!
- The volume ends in the middle of the dodgeball game, so the climax will have to wait. PS, how great is it to see Hisoka teaming up with the boys?

We explore more of Greed Island. There are so many cards that you forget about them. The one which I remember is the Rolling Dice 🎲 with 21 faces. 20 faces are good luck and one is bad luck. After Killua becomes hunter, he comes back to the game 🎮 and all 3 start collecting the remaining cards. At one point they understand that they need to trade ca4ds with others without which they cannot collect all. They do the trades and collect as many cards as possible. But the Genthuru (Bomber Group) has collected 96 cards and are 4 cards behind to complete the game so Gon, Killua, Bisk and others form and alliance and decided to collect the remaining 4 cards which no one has so as to stop Genthuru's group. When they meet the Pirates to collect the card, they are first denied meeting with the boss but after winning the challenge, they meet the boss Razor who informs them that to get the card they would need to have a group of 15 people playing against his 15 members and win 8 matches. First time they lose to understand about the opponents and how they can win next time. Next time they team up with Hisoka for which I loved their meeting scene. 🤩🤩 Now the new group has won 4 matches and last match is playing Dodge Ball with Razor and his 14 Devil's. Gon and Killua understand the challenge and are working out a plan to win the matches. With Hisoka, will they win..? Excited to read the next volume. This volume was interesting from the first word with lot of game strategy being discussed.

This was a very fun volume to read. It was fun and satisfying to see the Gon and Killua finally start to collect cards and play the game the way that Ging wanted to. I also found it shocking to watch Genthru do what he did? However if there was one thing that I loved was Hisoka's part. I found it interesting to see how things different from the animé especially in this part from Gon and Killua discussing whether or not they should see the fake Chrollo taking g place in a restaurant. Yet I loved how Mr Togashi gave us some fan service and showed Bisky's reaction. Yet I found the walk to Aiai very well done and how it shows Gon being more perspective than in the animé. Yet when we got to Aiai it was slightly longer than in the animé too. Which just showed what Hisoka knew than in the animé amd when Killua figured it all out felt more earned here too. Yet the start of the dodgeball match was very good and well done too.
This volume was a bit of a drag. In their quest for achieving the rest of the game cards to win Greed Island, Gon, Killua and Biscuit join forces with some other players to defeat Razor, one of the Game Creators, and a few others in a deadly match of dodgeball.
Like legit that was most of this volume. A game of dodgeball. And add insult to injury because the volume ended without the game coming to a conclusion. Agh. The next volume too will be about this game for who knows how long.
Will I be reading that? Yes. Will be ranting? Yes, again. Why don't I just stop? I wish I knew.
