When the president of the Brook Ridge Falls Senior Center Book Club is found dead face first in one of the pies meant for the book club pie eating contest, Lexy and her posse of iPad toting grandmas take it upon themselves to find the killer. Too bad the only potential clue might be buried inside one of the many pies taken by the police for evidence.
That’s no problem, Lexy, Nans and the ladies will use their uncanny methods of deduction to ferret out the killer. They waste no time filling their suspect list.
Was it the crusty old author? The flaky antique dealer? Or the cheating husband with his half-baked grief act?
All of them had means, motive and opportunity and seem to be harboring secrets. But what has Lexy really worried is that someone in her group of detecting grandmas seems to have a secret of her own.
Just when the case seems impossible to solve, the final clue presents itself. Will Lexy and her posse realize its hidden meaning before it’s too late?

4.5 stars. Lexy, Jack, Nans (Lexy's grandma) and the rest Nans' friends in the Ladies Detective Club who reside at the Brook Ridge Retirement Community are back to solve a murder that stops a pie eating contest at the Brook Ridge Falls Senior Center before it even begins. Who would want to kill Mary Archer, the community center president? And why? Lexy and the ladies have three main suspects but which one is it? Could it be someone else?
This is #14 in this cozy mystery series, but Leighann keeps you guessing. I liked that Jack, Lexy's police detective husband, asked Lexy and the Ladies Detective Club to help out this time, as they usually have to sneak around to collect their information. I also liked the humor in the story--one of the characters in this book wrote cozy mysteries that featured an amateur sleuth who owned a pie bakery. Lol that describes Lexy except her bakery makes more than pies.
This is the 14th book in the Lexy Baker series by Leighann Dobbs. Who would think a pie eating contest could wind up with a dead body being found by Lexy Baker and her assistant Cassie. This is the first full catering job being done by Cup and Cake. This one is for the Brook Ridge Falls Senior Center's Book Club. As Lexy and Cassie are checking the pie room to make sure everything is set to go for the .pie eating contest the find a body slumped over with her face in a blueberry pie. As Lexy touches her to see if she is still alive, she falls to the floor. Beside her is the trophy that was to be given to the winner of the contest along with a signed book by Chandler Bennington. Lexy and Cassie secure the room. Lexy notifies her husband, Jack Perillo, a local detective and announces to the club that the contest is cancelled due to the death of Mary Archer. This news sets the Ladies Detective Club on full alert. These ladies include Lexy's grandmother, Nans (Mona Baker), and her friends, Ida, Helen and Ruth. There is no end to the number of suspects after the coroner announces Mary was killed by being hit with the trophy. The ladies begin their questioning with the husband, Howard Archer and move on from there to others who attended the event. This cozy mystery is a must read. It includes humor, mystery and wonderful characters. Leighann keeps you guessing until the end for the killer. I received an ARC copy in return for an honest review.
This is a fun cozy mystery series and reading each book in this series never gets dull! Lexi and Cassie are catering the Brook Ridge Retirement home for the first time and they want everything to be perfect - and it is until the president of the center, Mary is found dead face down in one of Lexi's pies which were laid out for a pie eating contest. So Lexi and her grandmother Nan and her group of the ladies detective club decide they have to solve this murder so Lexi's reputation stays in tact. Lexi's husband, Detective Jack and Cassie's husband Detective John caution the ladies to keep out of trouble while they stick their noses into the case. But Jack does it with a wink and a nod since the seniors and Lexi have helped in their other cases. With so many potential suspects that need to be whittled down and with one of their group seeming to be hiding something, the ladies jump in head first. Can they solve this crazy murder? So many twists, turns and laughter you must read this book to the end without pause!
Never Say Pie is Book 14 in the Lexy Baker Series, and this series gets better and better. This book did not disappoint.
When the president of the Senior Center Book Club is found dead, facedown in one of the pies meant for the Book Club's pie-eating contest, Lexy , her grandmother and friends are on the case.
There are a lot of secrets, and the list of suspects are long. There is even a secret in Lexy's own group of amateur investigators.
This book will leave you guessing until the very end. I had no clue who the killer was. Leighann Dobbs delivers with another great story with characters that we have all come to love.
Lexy and Cassie are working their first full catering job at the Brook Ridge Falls Senior Center for the book club. There will be a pie eating contest at the end, with a signed book given as the prize to the winner. When Lexy and Cassie discover the president of the book club face down in one of the pies and the book missing, Lexi, Nans and the crew are on the case. With the blessing of Jack, Lexi's homicide detective husband.
Another fun story from Leighann Dobbs, lots of laughs, a few misdirection's, and a clever reveal from Nans to close the case out.
Lexy is at the senior center for her first catering job for the book club. They are setting up for a pie eating contest and keeping everyone out of the back room until they are ready to start. But before they can get the event started a murder has taken place. Now Lexi, Nan and the gang are running all over town asking questions trying to solve this murder mystery. This book is fun and full of laughter, and a good mystery to solve. Highly recommend. I couldn't put it down.
This is just a fun book to read. Lexy and Cassie are catering an event for the Brook Ridge Falls Senior Center Book Club. Needless to say, the catering job doesn't go as planned. Can Lexy and gang solve this murder? The characters in this series are quirky and loveable and the mystery is always well written and fun to solve.
When someone at the Brook Ridge Falls Senior Center Book Club is found murdered, it is up to Lexy, Nans and the gang to help the police find the person responsible. It is always a pleasure to watch this group in action! They work together like no one else. This is a delightful book by a fabulous author. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I really like this series! I have read them all. Enjoyed every single one of them. I like Lexy and her Nans and friends being the investigators in these books. They are not obvious who the killers are either. I've been fooled a few times lol. I highly recommend this book and all the other books in this series! You can't go wrong! Enjoy!
Another fun cozy murder mystery from Leighann Dobbs! Hard to put down and kept me guessing until the end. Jack, a local police detective and Lexy's husband, decides to share with the ladies this time, and Nans solves the crime! Really entertaining read!
Not quite the usual ending that we are used to. It was too clean cut and dry for the end. Book was well done with Nan and the ladies detective :/ on the hunt for a killer
The gang gets together again to solve the blueberry pie murder. You join Lexy, Jack and the Ladies Detective Club to find the culprit in this series. If you want a light, fun cozy mystery to read this is the one along with the others in this series. You won't be disappointed.
It is always a good day when a murder is solved by the ladies detective club. This story like the others is both entertaining and fun. Leighann Dobbs’s characters remind you of your own family members with their playful interaction. Good read
I am so glad there was yet another adventure for Lexi abd and her grandmother. Mona and her friends crack me up. I hope there are many more adventures ahead.
