I’m N.P. Martin and I’m a lover of dark fantasy and horror. Writing stories about magick, the occult, monsters and kickass characters has always been my idea of a dream job, and these days, I get to live that dream. I have tried many things in my life (professional martial arts instructor, bouncer, plasterer, salesman…to name a few), but only the writing hat seems to fit. When I’m not writing, I’m spending time with my wife and daughters at our home in Northern Ireland.
If you're a fan of the mortal instruments, buffy, or supernatural than you will fucking LOVE this book. It's got a kick ass female lead, demons and angel blades used to slay them, action, gore, and amazing family relationships as well as steamy romantic relationships. This was one hell of a ride and I'm excited for the next installment of this series. Bring on the demon possessions, the blood and guts, the slaying, and the awesome villains, I'm ready for it! I think...
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, but what I got was very surprising. While the protagonist is 18 years old, she came across as older mainly because of her life. As such, I wouldn’t recommend this as a young adult read, more of a new adult read. And, yes, she does things that are probably a little shocking, again, because of her past. Now that I’m past those warnings, I will say I really, really enjoyed this book. I’ve seen reviewers posting how similar this was to Supernatural, but I only found that true superficially. The book was a little dark, but I found Leia to be hopeful that things will get better. I also really liked the revelations Leia found out about her parents, and how well it was shown to us slowly, and not rushed. I’m probably being a little vague, but I have to be to really not spoil this book. Mr. Martin did an excellent job of creating a dark world full of hopeful people with his excellent writing and great characters. While I will admit at first I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book, it didn’t take long to become totally engrossed. I am really looking forward to more in this series, and I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us. Highly recommend! I was provided the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.
I enjoyed this read. The storyline is well-written, a little dark, a little like Supernatural but there is hopefulness to the main character. The characters are defined, complex and compelling and I'm looking forward to the next installment. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
I loved how this book was written. The author managed to use descriptives that totally terrified me in parts. A film can do that quite easily for me, but this is the first time I have ever felt such eeriness and in some parts, terror, from reading a book.
OMG I LOVE THIS BOOK! Amazing writing! Long story short Leia is a foster kid and sees how her father was killed by a demon and her mother taken to hell. When she's 18 she starts seeing demons everywhere behind their illusions to put it in words. She drinks, smokes and gets wasted to keep the demons at bay (her words) Then one day her life gets turned upside down and she learns about her true heritage(that she's a nephilim)
We have a strong female lead thou I really connected with her around half of the book. Otherwise I love how N.P. Martin portraited her and the characters. Amazing writing and I COULD BARELY PUT THE BOOK DOWN! Seriously tho I loved how we had a more complex mc that we learned to love in the process
Honesty the story line was AMAZING but I needed some time to adjust to the characters! I seriously love how he made me love them the more I read about them
I would love to tell you EVERYTHING that happened in the book but who Im I to spoil the fun? Read it yourself!
Decent world, interesting characters... but desperately needs an editor to clean up the stilted sentence structure and awkward dialog, and a proofreader to remove all the surplus apostrophes (the plural of “demon” is not “demon’s”) and misplaced commas.
Overall a shame; it has the bones of a good story and I think I would’ve liked it had it been professionally edited.
Wow! Very dark and Intense book but awesome. Love the flawed characters that still have the light of good and they kick ass!! The ending was SO not what I expected which I loved, makes me want to read the next book even more! Great story!
