Receiving Christmas

Rate this book
When Ron Zarbock was watching his young son opening up one gift after the next one Christmas morning, he started to lose interest after a while, and began to question why. He had found joy in giving, but realized that receiving is just as important. No, he wasn’t feeling robbed of any particular gift that he wanted to be under that tree. Instead, he began to realize that giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin. The Bible, incidentally, has considerable more references to receiving than giving. That is when he began to understand that when one knows how to receive they then can truly give.

Zarbock explains why receiving can be difficult to do in our day. He uses the symbol of a star with its five points to represent the five principles of receiving. Readers will discover that they no longer have to compete in the race and noise of the Christmas season, or any time throughout the year. Receiving Christmas provides tools by showing real life examples of those who have learned how to receive and then go on to truly giving. This book is used to create proceeds for those in need. I wrote this book to create a community of receiving and to curb competition and comparision in our society. This book can be used to connect and be more accepting of self and others. One way to do this is to use the book to raise money for those in need such as a seriously ill child or a homeless family.

This was a thought-provoking read as I began into the Christmas season this past year...I honestly wish I had started it much earlier, before the craziness of the holiday hit. It made me contemplate how to approach the Christmas holiday by really looking inward to what it truly means to receive- as our Savior commands us in the Bible. This has a much deeper meaning as you go beyond the worldly definition of receiving. It's a collection of thoughtful stories interwoven with practical application of how to truly appreciate our Savior and apply this understanding into not only the Christmas season, but a year-round ideal. It is not lengthy, but I found myself reading a chapter and contemplating it for a day or two...enjoying how each chapter built upon the next. Highly recommended, even though it's not Christmas.!!!

I was lucky enough to read this book right before Christmas 2013. I was so impressed by this story, that I ended up gifting to a couple of family members. This book really encaptures the true meaning Christmas. I loved the star used to symbolize the "five principals of receiving". Additionally, I loved the moral of this story, which was by opening your heart and learning to receive, you can more fully give! Well written. Makes a great gift, to others AND to yourself!

This book makes you think about how to help yourself by helping others first. The stories within seem to demonstrate the authors thoughs well. It gave me some great ideas to implement within my family and how I hope to teach my kids during the Christmas season and throughout the whole year. I would definatly recommend this book.

Ron's inciteful way of expressing the importance for all of us to accept the fact that we should be willing to receive is highly profound. It made me look at Christmas in a way I hadn't thought of before. Christmas is such an important holiday for most of us and I will look at my feelings during the holiday season with a whole new light.
