The R.E.M. Project

Rate this book
The most powerful psychological weapon ever created has been unleashed.

It's a weapon the government is willing to kill for.
A weapon Big Pharma refuses to acknowledge.
A weapon that's only a prescription away.

It’s been six months since the release of Asteria Pharmaceutical’s groundbreaking sleeping pill, and already, profits are soaring. With the original clinical trial outliers in hiding and on the run, George Sturgis has had free rein to disperse his revolutionary genome-inhibiting medication to the masses, with little regard for Ocula’s unconventional side effects.

Meanwhile, in Langley, the Director of Central Intelligence has taken notice of Ocula’s success and is determined to take the drug off the streets—even if it means rebooting a dangerous project she swore she would eliminate for good.

As the original outliers get pulled deeper into the Ocula conspiracy, they’ll soon discover that they’re not the only ones dreaming.

The Author was kind enough to send me this book to review, since I had read the previous book in the series. I like the main plot of the series, but this one started out a little slow. Still a good story though and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:
It’s been six months since the release of Asteria Pharmaceutical’s sleeping pill, Ocula, and the disaster in Costa Rica. The original outliers of the drug’s clinical trials are on the run while the drug has been dispersed to the masses without regard of its side effects.

The director of the CIA has taken notice, though, and has set her sights on getting rid of the drug. Even if it means restarting a dangerous and morally ambiguous project she said she’d never condone.

As the original outliers get pulled deeper into the Ocula conspiracy, they’ll soon discover that they’re not the only ones dreaming.

MY REVIEW:
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

‘The REM Project’ is the exciting and action-packed sequel to ‘The REM Effect’. In it, we find the outliers six months after the incident in Costa Rica. They’ve been on the run but have realized it’s time to bring Asteria down.

Using their unique abilities, both brought on by Ocula as well as those they have innately, they come back together to accomplish a common goal. Along the way, they discover they are not the only ones dreaming, nor are they the only ones using these dreams to their advantage.

Lanham has once again written a clever and fast-paced thriller. He’s tied together regular people, corrupt corporations, and sly government agencies to build a tale that keeps you intrigued from the get-go. The ending of ‘The REM Project’ is intense and almost shocking in its brilliance.

Apparently, Lanham has one more book in this series, and I’m excited to see how it all culminates. I have my predictions, but I’ve no doubt he will blow them all out of the water.

Brilliant. There are some books that just can’t pull yourself away from with the need to find out what’s going to happen, and this is definitely one of those stories. I really enjoyed J.M. Lanham’s first book in this series ‘The R.E.M. Effect’, and this is a fantastic follow on. The plot is quite clever, and I like that the story is based in a few different countries. The stand out for me is that I had no idea what was going to happen from one moment to the next.
The Ocula sleeping pill had certainly become a popular medication to have on hand for people that required it, and especially since it seemed to work better than any other sleeping pill on the market. Not that it should have received FDA approval after the side effects it had shown in testing. However, that certainly wasn’t going to stop those who were investing in it, as there was too much money involved. So, for those few people that did know about Ocula’s side effects, were currently on the run and trying to stay alive. There was no doubt that if they came out of hiding, there was a fair chance they would be killed to keep quiet. Although if the Outliers want to have any sort of life again, they are going to need help in disclosing to the world how it’s been deceived. Asteria not only has the Outliers to worry about, but the CIA has also shown a keen interest in Ocula. Hands down, this is a great story and well worth a read. Well worth the 5/5 Star Rating.

The R.E.M. Project by J.M. Lanham is a brilliant thriller. It kept me guessing the whole way. Here, I followed the characters once more as they are being threatened. They know the real truth about the popular sleeping pill that affects its victims in ways they are not aware of...the government comes to be the big bad guy here. They are investing in this crazy drug that harms its victims all for the sake of profits. Sounds very much like our real government. I can see this happening for real. FDA does not approve all drugs even the most uneventful drugs out there. But this is one pill that should not have been approved, yet it was. Death hangs over the heroes as they struggle to survive the threats from their enemies including the said company, the government, and now the CIA.

The beginning was a little bit dragging...other than that this is a must read. J.M. Lanham created a suspenseful action packed story. It kept me reading for a long time...and it was so worth every minute. Overall, I recommend this novel to all readers.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

Omg! Okay, this was a pretty cool plot and a great sequel. There were a lot of twists and turns that I was not expecting. Additionally, there were so many new developments that I have literally no clue where the next book will go. I think we definitely learned more about these characters, and even more about our government. I’m curious to see what will happen next, especially with that big cliffhanger at the end.
