Echo has lived the solitary life of a detective for too long, driven by her past to catch the criminals of Seahill and bring justice to those who’ve been wronged. Given her power to change into any creature she chooses, she’s pretty damn good at her job. But now her beloved city is in chaos. After escaping death at the hands of evil, she finds herself immersed in the world of magic and heroes.
That’s when he saved her.
Asher is an unexpected wrench in her life. He’s annoyingly charming, and despite never wanting to see him again, she needs his help. Alongside the Hero Society, they must find a familiar killer, unmask the true villain that’s been behind everything from the beginning, and try to survive the fear rising in the world.
Mankind wasn’t ready for them.
Will they continue to fight the shadows or succumb to the darkness?
Jessica Florence writes the stories that her fellow nerds yearn for.
From Superheroes to Sexy Truckers, Jessica is known to give readers unique tales of hope where love conquers all. Stories that melt away reality and take you on a journey with the characters. If escapism is what you are looking for, then look no further. Jessica is the Queen of weaving the tales you may not normally pick up but find yourself not being able to put down.
Jessica’s always had a love of reading, and her love of books lead her to start writing in the 9th grade. She quickly learned that storytelling was her passion. Inspired by movies, music, and her personal life she writes like it’s the very air she breathes. Through her writing it’s evident that she lives for the stories she creates.
Jessica resides in North Carolina with her daughter, husband, and various animals. She loves to be outside, write in her hammock, and collect tea mugs.
~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~ WOWEE...So this one turned out to be my favorite of the series so far. I had my reservations at the beginning (see heroine section) but Jessica pulled it off in a spectacular fashion. It was well written. The pace was perfect. The plot was super engaging and kept me guessing until the end. Speaking of that ending...I CANNOT wait to see what this author has in store for us in the finale.
~HERO~ AHSER...I liked Asher's character a lot, but again like the hero from the previous book he was pretty much a BETA hero. I personally prefer my heroes to be ALPHA, but he was a sweet guy, so I found myself not being bothered by that in this book. I loved the whole twist with the "mates" thing. I loved how patient Asher was with Echo. I loved that he was a kicka$$ magic boy. I just really enjoyed his character a lot.
~HEROINE~ ECHO...I wasn't sure if I was going to like Echo at the start of this book. She was somewhat bitchy, and I was worried I was going to be getting another utterly unlikable heroine like Lilith from book two. But I was pleasantly surprised that she lost a lot of her bitchiness quite quickly, and she became much more likable as the book went on. Oh, she still had an edge to her, but it was a positive character trait and made her more bada$$ and less annoyingly bitchy. I also LOVED that she was a shapeshifter. Very cool addition to the Hero Society family Miz Florence. Echo actually turned out to be a fantastic heroine for me, so yay.
~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~ There were a lot of great secondary characters in this book. All the Hero Society people from previous books. Plus we got a peek at a couple of characters that are VAWRY intriguing, to say the least. I can't wait to see what is up with both Esme and Dorian.
~HEAT LEVEL~ LOW. This was again pretty slow burn in the sex department. We only get a couple sex scenes, but they were both suitably hot. Both the heat level and the frequency felt right for the story, and this couple had good on page chemistry.
~ANGST LEVEL~ LOW. There is some reluctance on Echo's part, to begin with, but she warms up to Asher pretty quickly. They were a solid couple through most of the book. Most of the angst (if you want to call it that) comes from the baddies and the state of the city. There was also no OW or OM drama, and neither were virgins.
~IN THE END~ I LOVED it. It started off a bit rocky for me but it soon found its footing and I was hooked. It was fabulously written. It had twists and turns. It had sweet moments. It had sad moments. It had an excellent plot and a cast of very likable characters. I am excited to see what the final book will bring. Therefore yours truly is going to give this one two HUGE thumbs up.
DUSK, just like the author said, was a total game changer. With a feisty heroine, an irresistible magic boy, and an attraction so sizzling that will make you purr. Jessica Florence has created not only an exceptional, fascinating world but characters that become family. And I don't want this family to end, like never!
Dusk took me on an epic journey full of magic, animals, and some twists and turns. From start to finish I was pulled in on this remarkable ride and fell in love once again with Jessica Florence writing style for this series. A sexy, fast-paced style that leaves nothing behind. Love, friendship, family, hotness, you name it, she gives it to you...and this time she gifted me with a dash of suspense that had me pulling my hair out.
The Hero Society, Dawn, Day and Dusk, is a reading experience not to be missed. If you're looking for something different and addictive, this is your series. Read these books. I'm just going to be here ignoring the fact that the next book is going to be the last one. Denial mood on, people.
I was given an advanced readers copy of this book and have decided to leave a voluntary review. I was so excited when Jess told me about asher and echo book. I mean a man who owns a cat but is really is a human is pretty neat. I basically read this book in few hours. Once I started I didn't stop. I just kept powering through it was that good. Asher is sexy as hell. And echo is bitch but I love that about her. Plus the story tied in with mystery was so damn good.
The story line for the Hero Society series seems to be improving. Dusk most definitely had a stronger story than the previous books. The mystery behind the villain(s) is evolving and has started to pique this reader’s mind. Echo and Asher’s story was also stronger than the previous two. The connection and chemistry was more palpable than the others, but still hasn’t been deep enough for me, as the reader, to be fully invested in their love.
With the Hero Society becoming more known to the public, not only do they have to worry about the unknown bad guy they’re still trying to identify, but now there is a portion of the public letting fear of the different and unknown influence their behavior.
They have a growing battle on many fronts to contend with.
This series is amaaaaazing! I just LOVE the Hero Society, but Dusk is now my favorite so far. Asher and Echo are so incredible together. I didn’t want this book to end. It’s action-packed and filled with mystery, suspense, sexiness, and total kick-assery! If you haven’t read this unique series, what are you waiting for? I’m sure you will love the Hero Society as much as I do!
Lions and Panthers and Bears... Oh. My. HELLZ YEZZZ!
Lawwwd, I LOVE this series.
I’ve said all along that this series is the hybrid love child of Nerd Cool and Geek Cool but I’m now going to add that it’s clear that it’s Aunt is Spiritual Cool and it’s Uncle Biblical Cool.
Why? There are so many brilliantly woven (human-paranormal-theological-spiritual) elements at play in Dusk that if you’re not paying close enough attention (& just spend all your time reading & spazzing out like a giant dork over Echo, Asher & the Society - what? I’m comfortable with who I am 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️😆) you’re going to miss how effortlessly JFlo is starting to leave puzzle pieces that are drawing this story toward what I’m certain will be an epic conclusion!
Echo is yet another kickass, badass heroine who you can’t help but want in your own squad. She’s as tough a Lilith and as protective as Rose, and is also completely her own character.
Asher is the shiz. Full stop. No kidding, everything outta this guy’s mouth either had me cheering or swooning. (These HS men are just something else - literally & figuratively 😉)
So as I sit here (in my tinfoil hat, mapping out my theories in my head about who’s (really) who and what’s coming straight at us in Night - the final book in the series - I am going to say two things: 1. Read this series. and 2. JFlo, woman, there damn well better be a spin off!!!! 4 is NOT enough. And don’t even go coy and shit, pretending like you don’t know what (read: who) we want more of. You know. And dude, you did this to yourself. 😝😏
”I was the troublemaker of the coven, and I had a feeling my story with this woman was only beginning.”
To say Echo and Asher are a force to be reckoned with, would be a VAST understatement! The next installment in the Hero Society Series was EVERYTHING! Dusk pulled out all the stops when it came to a couple so incredibly right for each other, it was inevitable for them to be anything but what they were together: THE force.
The comradeship between the two characters MADE the book. How in tune they were with each other was mind blowing. Echo will always be the badass that she is and Asher will always be the sweet one everyone falls for. Well that and he is funny as all hell.
The pace at which I read this book is unheard of. I couldn’t for the life of me put it down and that’s just classic Jessica Florence for me. Especially when it comes to this series. I can’t wait for Night! Dusk was just too good to be true and the lead into Night was more than enthralling!
5 outstanding stars!! This book was so freaking good. And I think my favorite of the series thus far!!
This is book 3 of 4 from the “Hero Society” series. Do not read this as a stand alone. I mean I think you could but I feel like it could get confusing.
💕This is Echo and Asher’s story...
Echo~ I fight evil. In more ways then one. Yea I heard of the Hero Society but have no ties to them. I’m not looking for friends or love interest. Until one shitty night turns my world a little crazy. And I meet a cat loving, sexy as sin man....
Asher~ I left my family. I am expected to marry and settle down and that is not in the cards for me. I am powerful and fun loving. I am a bartender with killer social skills, I want for nothing really. Until I realize what I have been missing when I meet one hell of a feisty little kitten aka “Snow White”...
💭My thoughts...
This was a kick ass book!! What I love about these books is they focus on one couple but you still have the whole Hero Society throughout the book. This book is full of suspense. I think I know what’s going down but up until the very last page you do not know. For me it is hard to find a really good romantic suspense. Usually the romance part is really great but the suspense is kinda lacking or visa versa. This was well balanced and just great!!
Asher is charming, sexy, charismatic and just a really good guy. What is there not to love. Along with his special abilities. Yummy!! Echo is a strong beautiful woman and I love her. Also the rest of the crew is moving along great and I never tire of learning more about them.
I am sooo excited for Book 4!! This has been such a great series. If you haven’t started you better start now because you are definitely missing out!!!
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
What a ride this was. This was definitely a game changer like J.Florence said and I enjoyed every minute of it. I seriously thought this was the end of this awesome series and a bit bummed but was SO excited to read that there’s one more left, Night. Woot!
Dusk screams epic HEROES and makes me wanna be apart of the Hero Society and be one of the cool kids. If only I came with an ability...especially when Asher is near by. Wink. Asher is swoony, lovable and that sexy grin had me saying, test your magic touch on me, yeah? Teehee. As for Echo, total bada*s. Loved her the minute said she knocked over the water bowl. #meow
JFlo, you did good once again. Now if you can please give me NIGHT and tell me book 4 will turn into book 5? Because there’s way too much awesomeness in these Heroes to stop at just 4 books.
This series keeps getting more and more amazing and suspenseful! I loved Echo and her gift, which went hand and hand with her job. Asher is super swoony with insane gifts of his own. He’s a charmer and even Echo can’t deny his charm. Events bring questions and history to light and just when you think you have it figured out, the story makes a sharp turn! I was stunned by events in this book and the buildup to the final book is so crazy intense!
Dusk is the third book in the Hero Society series by Jessica Florence. I really loved book one, Dawn, but I think this one is my new favorite!
Dusk opens with Echo witnessing her parents murder and her power to shift into whatever animal she wants kicks in. Now, she is a detective with the Seahill Police Department and she is determined to protect others from the tragedy that she suffered through while tracking her parent's killer. Two things that she has not made up her mind about is whether or not the Hero Society is a society that can trusted and what that strange spark she feels when she touches Asher, a magic wielder, means. Echo is used to going through life on her own and has no idea what to think when she finds herself immersed in this sense of family she finds in the Hero Society and with a man who accepts every part of her.
I loved Echo and her strength to keep going when things don't go her way. She is one of those characters with a tough exterior, but a gooey center. I admired her vulnerability and the leap of faith that she takes in this book. I also loved Asher and his ability to sense what Echo needed at any given moment. He was such a patient man who didn't want to settle for anything less than a pure love that was made for him. Echo and Asher were exactly what each other needed and their journey was beautiful.
I recommend this book to those who love: soulmates, superheroes, magic, suspense, and quick reads.
Dusk is dark and dangerous. With dynamic characters, and peril lurking around every corner, this one will have your heart pounding! With a serial killer on the loose, and new, shape-shifting hero, this one takes the Hero Society to new levels!
Jessica really has a way of drawing you in to her stories. I love her engaging writing style and intriguing characters! There is never a dull moment with the Hero Society.
Dusk introduces us to a new, strong character named Echo. Echo is fierce, but also a little closed off. She has a fun ability and a sassy attitude! With Echo comes a new mystery for the Hero Society to solve, and another hero, with wild magic.
Asher is unlike our other heroes. His magic stems from energies from the earth. As a former member of a witch coven, Asher is able to manipulate his powers in a way the heroes have never seen. He is definitely a refreshingly new character to shake things up with the bunch, and with Echo!
Dusk is exciting and alluring. It is a continuation of the first two books, but also holds its own uniqueness to it. It is daring and new and will leave you wanting more!
Thank you to the author for sending me a free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Omg! This is my FAVORITE of all the Hero Society books!! Asher and Echo are HOT and totally a force to be reckoned with. Their chemistry is undeniable, back stories to pull at your heart strings and more powerful together than apart. They are the perfect addition to the Hero Society! I swear these books keep getting better and better, and that's saying something considering I was hooked after book 1!
3.75 Stars Favorite so far of the series. The books are getting better in this series. I'm enjoying the plot development and added levels to each book. The characters are becoming an endearing family. Asher and Echo have the most explored relationship, which I really appreciate. And their powers were really cool and unique. This is a fun series.
These series just keep on getting better and better!! The love story in this one is fantastic and so fun! Also there’s a HUGE PLOT TWIST!! Read this now!
I definitely love Asher & Echo, there is no way that I will be able to choose a favorite in this series. The series has an overarching storyline that continues, but each book revolves around a new couple. But don’t worry, we still see plenty of the individuals from the previous book.
After an tragedy on her 16th, Echo has kept to herself, being a loaner both as a detective and in her personal life. Asher left his family home to escape expectations of who he would choose to carry on his family line. A very interesting chance meeting brings these two together, nothing like a cat in need of help to bring two people together😉
I loved this book just as much as the previous one. This series has such a different concept for the books & I love it. I have always been a Marvel & DC fan, and this series is perfect if you enjoy superheroes.
I cannot wait to start the last book in this series!
Echo & Asher are awesome characters & great additions to the Hero Society family! They each have unique & amazing abilities that fit together well (I mean, soulmates!) and I enjoyed their interactions together & w/ the rest of the Society. Their romance is a caretaker to friends to HOLY STEAM, BATMAN kinda story. ; )
We also have a bit of Echo on her own, as she learns to let Asher in, and also as she lets her walls down to become part of the family. She's used to being a lone wolf (heh) so it's difficult for her to let anyone in, but as her heart connects with Asher and melts toward the Society, she discovers so much more. I loved it!! Also, the case Echo works on is full of twists & turns, and the way it intersects with the Society's mission in this episode had some surprises.
Wow just when I thought I had it all figured out, boom! But what a ride! Each book has it's own character even though they are entwined & share a common goal, the future of mankind. Each book allows us to meet new characters while also getting glimpses of how the other character develop as the story/ies progress & their stregnth shines.
Echo is fierce & highly protective. Asher is down to earth but is a rebel at heart. Together, sparks fly. But they also calm & centre each other. Highly recommend this book, but first read the other two books in the series.
Echo Cross’s parents were killed on her 16th birthday and she barely managed to escape being murdered as well. Why they were killed, she didn’t know. But it was also the day that she discovered that she had the power to transform into different animals. Until then she had been just an ordinary, average teenager living in her parents home on the reservation.
Years later, Echo is now a detective on the Seahill police force. Once again she manages to narrowly escape being killed by someone who has discovered she has unique abilities and who has left her nearly dead as they sought to learn more. While she does manage to escape, she is left so weak that she very nearly dies anyway.
If it weren’t for a kind man who found and rescued her, she would have not have survived. Thanks to his care she slowly managed to heal, but unfortunately seemed to be stuck in the form of a cat. It wasn’t until Phillip Griffin and his sister Rose arrive from the Hero Society to talk to him about his cat that anyone realized that she was actually much more…. As was the man who had rescued her.
Like the book before it, this story drew me in and kept me reading until I finished it. This has been a fascinating series so far and I am very much enjoying seeing how it will play out. Not everyone seems to appreciate the help of those gifted with special abilities, and in this book we learn that there are those who posses a type of magic as well. Each new part of the story adds something else to draw in the reader and makes me want to know what will happen next. I am looking forward to learning more about what is happening and where the story will take us.
One thing the reader does need to be aware of is that this is not a story meant for younger readers. While the sex in the book is not graphic, it is very clearly a part of the story and sometimes a little more descriptive than may be appropriate for younger audiences.
You dont think that this series could get better but everytime the next book comes out it does, absolutely loved this story and they may be a little different but god i have enjoyed them so far.
This is not the run of the mill love story it is so much more that, not only do we get two amazing characters but one hell of a story filled with action and drama and it’s just written so perfectly. Whilst i was reading this i could just see it playing out in my mind and when i read a story like this i usually find it hard.
In this book we meet Asher and Echo who both have interesting pasts. Asher was such a good character who was special in his own right but had a had a heart of gold. One meeting with Echo and he knew she was it.
Echo’s character was a favourite of mine but I’m pretty sure it’s because i think her special power is pretty cool. She was a police officer and had a nasty past which she needed to get revenge for. This revenge leads her to the family she needs and to a group of special people.
That’s the thing i love about this series is these different and special characters all coming together to be a big happy family. There is so much going on in these books i couldn’t put it down loved every aspect of it. I love that we got another two characters we hadn’t met yet.
I also love that i can’t wait to read the next book in the series going to be very interesting and highly anticipating the final instalment in this amazing series.
Jessica Florence has done it again with another amazing story loved loved loved it massive 5 Stars from me
ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review.. 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟 purr-fect stars.. I got to meet the heroes from the very beginning of their journey. Their lives have become an important part of my life ❤️ ❤️. For DAWN as I'd stated earlier, and I quote "I got on a train named DAWN, and never wanted to get down...". DUSK is one such station in its path and believe me, you never wanna miss getting down.. As Jessica had clearly stated, "its a game changer", annnnnddddd I dig it.. Totally, utterly and completely, I'm blown away by the characters. Its a Purr-fect bestseller.. I let myself get lost into the world of Sci-fi, supernatural world of super heroes, that Jessica so Purr-fectly created.. 😍
▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️
Echo Cross, a Seahill PD with an extra ordinary ability of changing herself into any animal. She carries within herself the spirit of all the animals that graze Mother Earth. Being once again hunted by the past and pursuaded by the HERO SOCIETY, she's one badass woman.
P.S. She's my new favorite (don't let Lilith know 😂).
▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️
Asher, a warlock /wizard /magic boy, has the powers of the nature within himself and can manipulate the elements of physics. Boy, what can he do with that smirk of his. I'll tell you, he knocked me on my ass, 😂🙈🙈.
▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️
This series just keeps getting better and better. And I'll tell you, its not one to miss.
Another jam packed book. This book is book 3 in this series. I just adored the new addition to the Hero Society. Echo and Asher both with their unique abilities and incredible chemistry made for a page turner. It like this book series keeps getting better and better.
Echo is this strong, independent women whose parents were tragically killed. While trying to solve the cities most recent crimes, she is hoping these crimes will lead to her parents unsolved murder. Asher, he is Echo perfect ying to his yang. Asher who abilities are quite different than Echo still holds power that is unique. Florence could not have written a better duo. She can take two new characters, give them such strong characteristics and create this amazing chemistry between the pair.
I loved this part of the story, I loved the drama and the "what will happen next". I love seeing part of the crew featured in the previous books. Probably one of my favorite things. It is like saying hello to old friends.
This book is a fantastic read, goes perfectly with the series. Can not wait to read more.
Dusk is Book 3 of the Hero Society. Each book brings a new adventure and the author does not re-tell the previous story to get the reader caught up, she drops bits and pieces of previous books throughout the story which I love!
This book introduced a few new characters but the main ones were Echo (I love this name) and Asher. All the characters from the previous books were in this as well. This family of characters keeps growing! Usually with this many characters, it’s hard to keep them straight but the author did such an amazing job bringing each character to life that there is no chance of forgetting who they are.
To be honest I was nervous about a 3rd story because the first two were so great I wasn’t sure how the author could keep it up but yet again, she hit it out of the park with this one! The story captures the reader from the start and keeps you wanting to know more and figure out the mystery.
This is an amazing series and I highly recommend starting it now if you haven’t already!
I was soooo excited to to read this book because it was going to focus on a shapeshifter character and I absolutely love shapeshifters.
Dusk tells the story through Echo’s POV. I loved this book not only because of the romance but because of the mystery that Jessica threw in. I don’t wanna give to much away because that will take the fun out of it. (Plus I think you should totally read this series.)
Besides Echo we meet her hunky love interest Asher who has some powers of his own. The relationship that grows between them just makes you want to swoon.
This is totally my favorite of the series so far—I said that about Day also but Dusk totally stole the show. I can’t believe there’s only one more novel to this series. I’m sad to see it end—but I can’t wait to see how it does lol. I will be continuing to wait in suspense impatiently. Thanks for another amazing read Jessica!
Dusk by Jessica Florence is the third installment in her Hero Society series and they should be read in order because this series will blow your mind! I have never been a PNR reader but I think I might be converted. This story's main characters Echo & Asher have unbelievable chemistry and I fell in love with them early on in Dusk. I couldn't predict this story and I loved the roller-coaster ride the author took us on and I can't wait for the final installment of this series. I can't say it enough ~ read this series! 5 Kitty stars for Dusk by Jessica Florence
*** Reviewed for Sweet & Spicy Reads - ARC provided for an honest review ***
Holy crap kittens! I'm blown away by this book! The unexpected twists and turns within the overall story, and this book in particular, have had me on the edge of my seat and now I'm dying to read book 4!
I love that there are new characters added to the Hero Society in every book (so far at least!), and finding out their backstories has been a real treat! Especially when the powers they have are not something you expected to see! I also love that this particular book had a whole extra dose of crime solving mystery added to it while still keeping the overall storyline intact and in focus. Florence has done a fantastic job with this series and I'm so excited to see what happens next!
Okay, this is definitely my favorite of the 3. And I said that about the 2nd book... Then I read this one.... GUYS!!! This one was amazing! I loved Echo and Asher soo much! I'm sad that there's only 1 book left and I was rooting for a particular character to get a book... Doesn't look like it's gonna happen. Seriously, this series is amazing! For the past 2 years I've been really only reading romance, not any with paranormal or fantasy elements! I love that this is a breath of fresh air from the typical romance. Ugh, I love this series!
I am in love with this series! I love all of the characters but I think this is my favorite book in the series. this author writes strong, hot, powerful hero's, but she also writes the best female heroines.
i think this book is my favorite because not only did she stay true to the hero story but this book just felt different. with a Detective and a mystery element just made it all the better. I can't wait to read more!
