1. The main idea of this manga is nothing new; a kouhai who falling—kinda hard—in love with her senpai. But the way Mase-sensei butter it up makes it like a whole new plot, leaving me with this heart-throb, screeching, and fresh feeling after reading just a first chapter! Every scenes, where it bounds to be cliché, Mase-sensei can turn it into a new prompt and not only that, she makes it super cute too! I'M IN LOVE! ♡
2. I can't with Mizukawa's personality. I'm super weak with this kind of character huhuhu pls send help—
3. The heroine character is great too! She is not some weakling-depressed-timid character! It's kinda rare to find this kind of heroine in shoujo manga. I really appreciate it Mase-sensei! I read too many kind of those heroine. Yours feels like a breath of fresh air~
4.Their love progress so naturally huhu i love how Serina can charm Mizukawa little by little, until he catch a feeling and falling in love with her. Slowly but surely will leave a big impact! Hohoho!
5. Basically all the positive things and new things I can find on a shoujo manga is here~

Off to the second volume, go go!
Cheers~

Heart-warming and fluffy from the very first page. A little fast-paced, but it didn't skimp on the relationship development whilst still managing to go at a hundred miles per hour. The love interests balanced each other out well and showed multiple sides to their personalities throughout.

The art was strange at first; it didn't have a generically cute manga art style. After a while I came to realise that the charm of the relationship and manga as a whole was reflected in the sometimes nice sometimes unrefined art and in the end I quite liked that.

Some idle graffiti on her desk sends Serina on the hunt for the culprit, which bumps her up against her sempai, Mizukawa. They butt heads for a bit, but that’s a prelude to dating and, wonderfully, all the joys that entails.

Sometimes you revisit a story and wonder what you ever saw in it. Sometimes you go back and it’s better than you remembered. Years of shojo consumption have only elevated Mizukawa and Serina’s first steps in my estimation.

Few series achieve anything close to the chemistry between these two and it does playful flirting that escalates into something far steamier better than just about any series. There is genuine passion between these two and it rules.

Oh, it doesn’t look like it’ll get there at first, with some sharp barbs exchanged via desk graffiti and a little war over unrequited love that lets the series quickly lay out its premise in literal text - it’s not the before part of revealing your feelings that’s the important bit, it’s what comes after.

And if you’re sick of series that take ten volumes for somebody to confess and three more for a kiss? Yeah, they’ll be done with all that by the end of this volume and to great effect. Nothing is like this series.

Serina starts off a little underbaked, but she blossoms as her confidence starts to build and her comfort increases. There’s a hilarious frankness to her character and the way she blurts out that she’s on her period while staying at Mizukawa’s place is priceless.

Not that Mizukawa can’t treat his partner right even within her boundaries. The whole ‘lay one finger on me’ scene smoulders more than most of the sex scenes I’ve seen depicted in manga. There’s no shortage of passion here.

Now, to be fair, it’s not all smooth sailing. In addition to nailing the fundamentals, this also has one of the best depictions of a couple fight I’ve ever seen, where an innocent barb goes too far and provokes the other person into firing back and it all just escalates.

There’s something great about the way Serina pursues Mizukawa based on very little and how he eventually shrugs and says ‘why not’. The way he phrases that is actually kind of perfect and one of those moments where gamely trying is going to change his entire life.

He’s far more insular than Serina, not being nearly as open, going for the brooding vibe with a touch of prickly, but that’s all covering a surprisingly tender side underneath it all and, if Serina leads the series off, he absolutely crushes it with the very ending of the volume.

This story is so delightfully winning and I may run the whole thing again to see if my memories hold up because I recall it not dropping a single beat and this roars to life with one of the best first volumes ever. Originally I gave this four stars and it was absolutely doing it a disservice. This is unquestionably the whole package.

5 stars - a series I have loved and will continue to love because of two characters who dare to be in love and spend the time amidst the pages showing how they make it work. Shockingly underrated.

An adorable and sweet manga filled with romance, funny moments, and gorgeous art.

One of the 80-ish manga I got from that Kodansha-first-volume-free-promotion! This one just looked adorable and I just had to read it! And now I want the whole series.

In this adorable manga a girl named Serina finds that someone has written all over her desk, lyrics to a love song. Of course, she cannot resist replying to the messages and so begins something that leads to whoever wrote the lyrics and Serina dating! It was just adorable how it all started. She was all excited about him, and he.. well, he was just a bit more stoic and apparently also forgot she existed. Teehee. No worries though, he is interested and is giving it a chance. And that leads to some adorable scenes, along with some hilarious scenes as Mizukawa-sempai has some idiot friends who love to tease him. I really loved seeing the two of them together, figure things out, share kisses, and be happy. At times the time went a bit weird, or maybe I was just tired, but at times I wondered how long they were together, I mean, Serina seemed quite shy but quite soon in the volume she decides to spend the night with sempai (for which I wondered what brilliant excuse she told her parents XD). But I was definitely shipping these two and I hope that Mizukawa-sempai was able to also convey his feelings a bit more clearer, we see that Serina feels a bit unsure. She is quite easy with saying I love you and that she likes him.. he is a bit more stoic.

But that ending! OHMYGOSHSHSHSHH! I was just crying and so happy. I won’t spoil it, but it was perfect!

I have to say this was more mature than I had thought. I mean, Serina looks more like 12-13, but going by the ages on Wikipedia for ages of high schoolers in Japan she would be 15-16. Plus, given things and how both of them were I thought this would just be a teehee, OMG we are holding hands and maybe sharing some cute kisses. Instead the kisses are quite deep, and there is also one scene where she requests her sempai to touch her and that leads to a more steamy scene. I don’t mind it at all, but I just hadn’t expected it. XD I am curious if later volumes will get even more mature/steamy.

The art is fantastic, OK, sometimes things were a bit much, I mean, look at the cover, look at those hands and those arms, that is not NATURAL, ok? But other than that, as I said, the art is gorgeous. I love the details!

All in all, this is one manga I want more of. I am delighted that the book is out in German as well, that means cheaper manga and that means I can keep on reading it soon, haha, by the time this review pops up I will probably have bought a few volumes~

This is cute and sweet, but sometimes a romance needs a little more tension than that to be truly successful. Great use of consent, however!

You Got Me, Sempai! follows a first year high school student named Serina who develops a crush on second year student named Mizukawa. She quickly confesses to him and they start dating.

You Got Me, Sempai! is a pretty light and fluffy shoujo that’s great for if you need a bit of a pick me up. The art style is quite unique, and somewhat messy (not in a bad way). As for the characters, initially I wasn’t fond of Mizukawa, he’s quite rough around the edges, and while Serina can easily say all the things she likes about him, I want to see them in action a lot more. Serina’s pretty cute, and she genuinely reminds me of a high schooler. I like how honest she is about her feelings and that she’s not afraid to ask for what she wants. Overall I found this to be very cute, and I liked it enough that I want to continue on in the series.

3.5!
This was a super refreshing take on first love shojo manga. The whole vibe is so airy and easy going, yet so realistic. The heroine isn’t all shy and cutesy, she feels like a real girl. Really interested in how different this continues.

"Every fight
Leaves us that much happier

All the time
We get a little closer together

Maybe our love
Won't change the world

But I think it's safe to say
I was born to love you."

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐💫 (3.5 rounded up to 4)

This was a cute introduction to our main characters, Serina and Asuma and how they get together. Like I said before, it's too fast paced and they start dating almost immediately but I don't find myself minding this. Mostly because, it's a quite realistic depiction of how high school relationships work. They act all lovey-dovey, they fight over stupid stuff, make up, and tease each other. It's pretty fun to read and easy to breeze through.

As for the characters, I like Serina. She's the cutesy type but also not the shy, can't even look at you straight in the eye kind (which I was). Also, she's pretty bold and straightforward and I like how she doesn't back away from asking what she wants. For Asuma, I have somewhat mixed feelings. He's the brooding, abrasive type that can't articulate his feelings. The good thing is he isn't straight up mean or toxic and he does try to express his appreciation and love for Serina in his own way but the bad thing is, this type of male mc does test my patience a bit. Here's hoping that I'll be able to get beyond this initial annoyance. Wish me luck!

Overall, I think it's a good beginning, with lots of fun moments between the characters and since this was recommended to me by my best friend, I'm hoping the quality will keep up.

Bottom line: Cute, fast-paced, enjoyable.

Very fast paced. I kept wondering how could there possibly be so many volumes when everything happens in the first three volumes.

This series is okay. There's literally nothing that makes it stand out from other romance manga. (Good or bad) I like the main character but I was bored of the guy. He's kind of dull. He doesn't really show emotion. The romance is boring. I started wishing they'd break up for no reason. I almost thought they would at some point but I guess dreams don't come true.

I'm giving this two stars because it's not terrible. I liked some of the advice that was given. Read this if your bored.

2nd Read (June 2020)
It’s my second time reading this and I’m going to write a real review for it this time. What first draw me to pick up this manga when it came out in French in 2018, was clearly the art style of Azusa Mase. Most of the time, I have a hard time picking up some shojo because the art style doesn’t appeal to me. But hers is soo clean, there is nothing too much.

Plot wise, nothing too original at first. You have your typical teenage girl who fall in love with a guy at school that she doesn’t even know and of course, she never had a boyfriend before. Well, at least we are lucky that Mizukawa is not the most popular guy in school or we would have the most typical shojo plot ever. However, he is sooo rude to Serina in the first chapter, which I completely forgot about. But you know, as in every romance story, he is rude to the main character and he can appear cold on the outside, but he’s actually kind when you know him better.

Except this, the manga do feel more realistic than other shojo: going to sleep at your boyfriend’s house, wanting to know everything about him, waiting to touch each other but also arguing over stupid things. It’s rare that manga portrays the everyday life of a couple in a way that is realistic, without drama happening every two chapters, so I really enjoyed that aspect.

But let’s be honest, I’m only here because it’s super cute!! Especially Mizukawa.

1st Read (June 2018)
I liked the drawings and the story was cute but I feel like the pacing was a little too quick. It was a great first volume overall

This was a cute romance between a nice love-struck girl and an abrasive yet kind boy. I enjoyed the art style and I thought that their romance was sweet, but I found it very rushed. This is not the first manga that I've read where the main character began dating in the beginning of the manga, Say I Love You did the same thing, but the main characters start dating in the first chapter. While the manga would benefit from slowing down the pacing and giving the reader more time to appreciate the growth in their relationship the scenes where he demonstrates his love to her are genuinely heartwarming and sweet. I will be picking up the second volume and would recommend this to romance fans, but I have to say that there are much better romance manga to choose from. Even so, I look forward to seeing how their relationship grows.

This is a review of the first 7 books.

I´ve seen a few reviews complain about this book doesn´t have any drama, and I think that´s true, but also what makes this such a charming story about being in love the first time.
It´s such a tender and butterfly inducing story that I get teary-eyed sometimes.

The slow pace makes you really see the growth of these two´s relationship - from the careful babysteps of figuring each other out to a relationship full of consent and equality between the couple.
I love how they make each other swoon, and how well the author portray the strong feelings that are connected to liking someone.

I can´t wait to get more of this feel-good story about Serina and Mizukawa-Sempai.

Artwork is a little iffy, story is ok so far. Nothing special, just an average shoujo.

I did like his attitude of - looking back in 70 years, what’s the first 10 minutes?

I’m ngl this cover is crazyyyy now that I’m looking at it… like this is lowkey gooner bait. But anyways this was a very good read, only issue is that after the first volume or 2 the ml just becomes a completely different character 😭😭?? Like he wasn’t bad either way but it left me very confused. It almost felt like the author forgot the characters personality while writing. Idk if they took a break or their editor told them to change it or what. The biggest issue aside from the personality change is just the change in dramatics. In the beginning it was marketed as a very very chill story with no real drama, it was just supposed to show the development of a relationship, but it not only added drama but also made other parts more serious then they really were if that makes sense. The best example of this is at the start of the manga, there is a meeting for some club or something he’s in and he wrote song lyrics on her desk. She argues that the song’s lyrics are wrong and he argues back. After this she asks him out and they get together and it a very chill thing where neither of them really like each other yet (yes I know I was complaining about this in another review but this is different bc the lyrics on the desk were about love and she wanted to know if it really felt like that) but they just wanna see if it works out. At the end they act like this scene is some deep emotional thing and she acts like the words he said made her fall in love with her on the spot and she still carries them with her and bla bla bla it’s just so different and dramatized compared to the beginning and it’s kind of like it got switched from an older shoujo to a modern one and it breaks my heart 💔💔. I still like the dramatized version though and it’s still fire either way. It gets a 3 because even though both are good it shouldn’t have a switch like that and also they had a breakup arc that had me stressing and I didn’t like it.

I'm on the fence for this series - parts of it feel very real and others don't. There relationship feels very insta-love, she wants him to be her boyfriend after seeing what he wrote on her desk and spoke to him like once or twice? Even the male MC seems unsure about it, but they start dating anyways. Then I'm not really sure how long of a time period before the next chapters happen, but they are already kissing and spending the night together. Now, I'm not totally unrealistic - I know physical relationships can happen fast and it's fine, it just seems very superficial. I do appreciate that the female main character doesn't really beat around the bush about what she wants - she's pretty open with him, even if sometimes she does it in a shy way. And especially with physical relationships women are a lot of times made to feel guilty for wanting or asking for it.

Overall, I'm just not sure. I think if it hadn't of been so insta-love right off the bat I would have been more interested. Or even if the insta-love had more of a basis and not just felt like it was because he was there.
