Space Destroyer, Corsair, is in big trouble. Under incessant enemy fire, confronted with a superior opposing force, amid a hellacious losing battle, the Power Plant Commander Ette and her only surviving crew, the diminutive Baltugirbaldorge--and that is just his first name--are front'n'center as the Corsair's only hope. Will they save the day? Or to those at war, win or lose, hope is an illusion? The story begins with, "Hell. Will this insanity ever end?" The story ends with ellipses.

Forever (The Short Story Collection Series) by Michael Priv.  Priv has this ability to vault the reader, in just the first paragraph or two, from the comfort of their reading chair, to a planet on the other side of the galaxy, plunging one into the middle of a battle scene with explosions and concussions reverberating inside one's skull, and then ... Wait a minute... that's exactly what happens! Like I said, Priv is a master at teleporting the reader to another dimension in just a few words. Forever is a story that should, in my opinion, be developed into something even bigger - I enjoyed its pace and I wanted to experience more of it; but alas, that is the nature of "short" stories.
