Lone Star #5

Fifth Column

Rate this book
Enemy forces gather under the veil of darkness;
Mobilizing to strike a fledgling nation.
Will this clandestine Fifth Column achieve its acts of
sabotage?

Remember, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Once again, political suspense collides with post-apocalyptic thriller fiction as critically acclaimed author Bobby Akart (The Lone Star Series, The Blackout Series, The Pandemic Series, The Boston Brahmin series and the Prepping for Tomorrow series) intertwines historical fact with plausible fiction in The Lone Star Series.

The Republic of Texas has focused its efforts on the survival of its citizens to the detriment of those who'd seek to cross their borders. When an unforseen enemy penetrates their defenses,
the unthinkable happens, causing the nation to face its greatest test.

Can Texas come together to protect their own? Will the death of one of their own cause turmoil among the ranks? Will the advancing Fifth Column receive assistance from an unlikely source?
The Lone Star Series continues with Fifth Column.

ABOUT THE LONE STAR SERIES

Political suspense collides with post-apocalyptic thriller fiction with the Lone Star Series by Best Selling Author Bobby Akart. A devastating EMP attack thrusts most of America into darkness, except for one state which has taken the steps to protect its power grid Texas.

World War III is imminent and a new President faces terrible choices as she navigates the shark-infested waters of Washington, and the geopolitical complexities around the world.
From Washington to Austin to a ranch in West Texas, decisions are made to protect the lives of Americans, some of which are considered selfish, rather than for people s survival.

The Lone Star series is designed to be the most thought-provoking post-apocalyptic series ever written. It will be a reminder to us all that ...

One day, tomorrow won't come.

Note: The Lone Star Series does not contain strong language. It is intended to entertain and inform audiences of all ages, including teen and young adults.

Although some scenes depict the realistic threat our nation faces from a nuclear war and the societal collapse which will result in the aftermath, it does not contain graphic scenes typical of other books in the post-apocalyptic genre.

I believe more of our young people need to lead a preparedness lifestyle. Studies show that our millennials do not have any of the basic survival skills. By writing this series free of vulgarities and gratuitous sexual innuendo, I've intended it to be suitable for everyone.

Thanks.

Sabotage from inside and all around haunts the 5th novel of Bobby Akart’s Texas Strong series. In other words the Fifth Column has showed their ‘faces’ and is causing all kinds of havoc, including murder, explosions, and assassinations. Duncan is trying to stem the flow of invasion while the Armstrong ranch waits in the peace before the all out battle for their home begins. The anticipation is mounting and I am sure Bobby has a humdinger of a conclusion planned.

If you have been following along at home, you know that this is the second to last book in this exciting Texas Strong series. The rubber is about to meet the road. Time to change major bad guys too, something you probably saw coming. You remember, Bobby left us hanging art the end of that last book and he does not disappoint in this one. Holloway and his goons are about to make a HUGE mistake and you may or may not have to wait for the finale. You need to pay attention, because there is a lot of action and the counter action is pretty intense. You have been chomping at the bit for this one and now it is here an you will not be disappointed. This isn't Akart's first rodeo (so to speak), and he knows how to satisfy his readers.

America is dark and powerless. The people are dying from starvation and disease. The country of Texas has power, but is running out of everything else! North Korean elite soldiers are poised for invasion! America, dark days are ahead!

The Armstrong family is circling the wagons, so to speak, preparing the people and property for any situation, danger or disaster coming down the road. Duncan and his aide, Corporal Espy, are readying the Texas QRF units to resist the influx of thousands of refugees who killed the guards and tore down the barricades and fences and pouring into the heart of the state.

Back at the ranch, Major and Preacher are preparing defenses for the thousands of refugees heading on a direct path to the ranch. Miss Lucy is preparing as well, marshalling resources for the trying times to come. Major is called to the capitol to meet with the President of Texas, Marion Burnett, to discuss the assassination of Vice President Montgomery Gregg, who did it, why, and how to move forward, and who to appoint to replace Gregg. Major agrees to investigate the murder, beginning with the only witness, Gregg's widow.

When Major introduces himself, Mrs. Gregg had a sudden look of comprehension come over her. "Monty's last words were 'Tell Armstrong that it was Yancy!'"

General Lee, North Korean commander of the elite Lightning Death Squad, and Manuel Holloway, commanding his own troop of North Korean troops, are poised to create havoc in the new Texas Republic. Holloway is determined to carve out his own little fiefdom in Texas. They're ready. The time is soon.

The battle is coming, the stakes are survival and the game is deadly. All the pieces are on the board, in position, ready to strike, to fight for freedom. The characters are as huge as a Texas sky. So perfectly developed and described, they've grown before us and now we'll see their mettle! The game is afoot!

I can't wait to see how the people I've grown to love and admire will respond to the coming trials! The story grows to the size of Texas. The future looks bleak, but I have confidence and hope on our side. I love this story!

When an author writes a series, they normally come out every so often and try to catch the reader up to speed with what has been going on. In this series by Bobby Akart, he plays by a whole set of his own rules! Not only does the next book come out the next month but he dives right into the action! Sure there might be a “cliffhanger” at the end of the book BUT that just helps build the anticipation for the next one and that has definitely built with this series!
In Fifth Column, not just the United States is under attack but also the Republic of Texas. As North Korea is getting ready to go forth and attack for Dear Leader, there is a darkness being played out behind the scenes towards those in office by people who hold trusted positions. Those in the higher positions have no idea what is happening but do know they can’t trust everyone and turn to those who have earned and shown their support through the years.
This story is filled with edge of your seat moments where you have no idea which way things will go. That keeps things pretty exciting! The author never lets up the suspense of who will survive and who will be lost to us. After becoming invested in these characters, I feel their pain, their feelings, their joy and their sorrow. Mr. Akart writes in such a descriptive way that you can’t help but feel the realism in his words. This is one of my top five favorite series that I have recommended to so many friends who have also enjoyed it. Not only have I been highly entertained and lost sleep over it but I have also learned so much on what to do to possibly survive if the SHTF one day.
I am looking forward to the final book in this series with trepidation. I really hate to see this all end but I know it can’t go on forever. I do know that I will be revisiting my friends in Texas time and time again as I reread this amazing series. #Texas Strong #Choose Freedom

I struggled a little with this book. The mention about Trump and the attempt to excuse his current legal problems and scandals from the standpoint of it being in the past from the perspective of the story, was just a political plug and both irritating and unnecessary to this story (especially since the actual outcome has not really occurred for us). The constant Texas bravado is starting to wear a little thin and I find it hard to believe that Texans would so easily consider non-Texan Americans as enemies and foreigners. I also don't see that so much synopsis of the previous books is necessary. Does anyone really start with a fifth volume of a series?
I will still read the next in the series since I have made it this far and have mostly enjoyed this series. Hopefully, it will improve.

Finished reading Book 5 of the Lone Star Series...Best series ever...Lots of suspense and action...North Korea has invaded the Lone Star State of Texas and is going full force into taking over...They have attacked Fort Hood and killed at least half of Duncan's soldiers...They were going after the armory to get more weapons...But because of Duncan's quick thinking , they got nothing...The North Koreans got away and now have their sights on the Armstrong ranch to take it over...The head of the Armstrongs, Major, has been asked to take over the Vice Presidential role..Will he? Will the Armstrongs, Miss Lucy, Cooper, Riley, Palmer , Sook , Preacher and the rest of the ranch hands survive? Stay tuned for the last book of the series...

Each book in this series ramps up the tension as you pray your favourite characters will survive. The North Korean Lightening Death Squad led by General Lee and the traitor Holloway are hellbent on creating mayhem and unfortunately, are doing a good job. After attacks on power grids and substations by Lee and Holloway, Texas is now in the dark like the rest of the US. Meanwhile more people are plotting against both governments for their own gains. The Armstrongs and others at the ranch do not yet realize that they will soon be in the fight of their lives. This is the fifth book in this awesome series that could be pulled right from the headlines which makes it even more terrifying. A must read for any fan of the Prepper/military genres.

Before you sit back and enjoy this book, read the Preface. Then read it again. This needs to be in the back of your mind while reading this segment of the series. It is the premise of the book. Three words about this book. Only three.
It is awesome!

I love independent authors. I have been reading Bobby Akart's books since his first series. Watching his popularity grow has been an exciting adventure. The time and energy he puts in his research is mind boggling. Reading his book is a mixture of entertainment, history and thrown in without you knowing it....life lessons. This is definitely a book the whole family could listen too.

Take A Deep Breath

Mr Akart did it again! My heart is pounding waiting to see what will happen to my favorite family and state. As bullets and fire flys all we can do is pray that the good will win over evil.
There has to be a way to take our country back so that we can start over. I must say I am ashamed of many Americans who only think of themselves and not everyone else. We can only keep this country together if we are united not divided. Wonder when our populace will figure it out if ever.

Another 5 star

Many times as series continue, the interest in the story line has a tendency to become lacking. But not the case with this one. This one is just as much a page turner as the ones before. Looking forward to the next installment, well in a way...knowing that it is the final one is causing mixed feelings. But will give me an opportunity to start another of Mr Akarts series .

I think I enjoyed this book the most of the six book series. - Realistic action and fast pace.
The basic premise of the series is the disintegration of society with the collapse of the power grid and the "war" between Texas that has retained some infrastructure and the rest of the US that lost the entire grid due to a Chinese EMP attack.
In this book, Chinese Special Forces, cut off from home, attempt to follow their last orders and destroy what is left of the Texas power grid.

Disappointing

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series until this book. It was totally unbelievable to me that Texas would not have protected their major power plants after what happened in the U.S. I would have probably quit reading if I hadn't been so completely caught up in the characters and story line .

Hisyory lessons and Roller Coasters!

I never knew what the 5th column meant historically. I do now, as this book 5 in the Lone Star series educated me while making me feel I was riding a roller coaster of thrills and emotions. I've never been much for long series, but I'm still going strong for this one. Texas Strong!

Still terrifying

The saga continues as danger comes from all directions. Joy and loss intermingle as we follow our favorite characters through the turmoil of an apocalyptic Texas. Exceptional writing by Mr. Akart as usual. He brings scenes to life with unusual clarity, making us feel as though we living with the Armstrongs. Last book here I come!

TEXAS GETS TESTED !

As the series continues, it certainly leaves the reader gasping as the turmoil grows larger and the danger crawls closer to home. Adding a few red herrings thrown in naturally ups the nervous system! Political conundrums are still prevalent and danger lurks around every corner. TERRIFIC READING!

Good story

I liked the story line and rhe action - however, after the prolog and the teaser next book chapter there wasn't much to the book - if there is a compiled book later it would be a better read

Good book

I'm getting nervous about what the ranch has coming their way. Is Armstrong going to accept the vice president position? Can't wait for the politicians who are only out for themselves to get what they have coming to them especially yancy.

Texas Strong!

Another great installment in the Lone Star series! However, I'm fairly certain Bobby Akart's name is synonymous with "cliffhanger!" Thank goodness I don't have to wait to read Suicide Six, because I gotta know what happens next with the Armstrong family!
