The Armstrong family is circling the wagons, so to speak, preparing the people and property for any situation, danger or disaster coming down the road. Duncan and his aide, Corporal Espy, are readying the Texas QRF units to resist the influx of thousands of refugees who killed the guards and tore down the barricades and fences and pouring into the heart of the state.
Back at the ranch, Major and Preacher are preparing defenses for the thousands of refugees heading on a direct path to the ranch. Miss Lucy is preparing as well, marshalling resources for the trying times to come. Major is called to the capitol to meet with the President of Texas, Marion Burnett, to discuss the assassination of Vice President Montgomery Gregg, who did it, why, and how to move forward, and who to appoint to replace Gregg. Major agrees to investigate the murder, beginning with the only witness, Gregg's widow.
When Major introduces himself, Mrs. Gregg had a sudden look of comprehension come over her. "Monty's last words were 'Tell Armstrong that it was Yancy!'"

I can't wait to see how the people I've grown to love and admire will respond to the coming trials! The story grows to the size of Texas. The future looks bleak, but I have confidence and hope on our side. I love this story!
