Broken by the Alien

Her planet belongs to him. Her body will too.

I've been a slave since Earth was conquered, but today a powerful Rathkari commander has singled me out. He's brought me aboard his ship and made sure I'm bathed and pampered. Now this huge, fearsomely sexy alien warrior plans to do absolutely anything he wants with me.

I hate him and his entire race, and I fight him with everything I have... at first. But before long, I'm moaning, writhing, and blushing with utter shame as he forces one savage, shattering climax after another from my naked, helpless, tightly bound body.

Soon I'll surrender completely. Then he'll claim me, use me, and breed me hard and often, and I'll take everything he gives me and beg for more. He'll have broken me, and I'll know it.

So, this is a very dark scifi alien invasion/abduction romance. For some authors, that could be a hard combination to write well, but Loki Renard has mastered it quite well. There are so many great elements to this book that drag you in and keep you stuck until the end. The entire first chapter is really intense and it totally sets the stage for what's coming next. You learn why Era is so angry, and you get to start to sympathize with her and her feelings.

Era is a human woman. She's working as a slave for the Rathkari on Earth. The Rathkari have invaded the Earth and taken all the men of any age and gotten rid of them. Then they came for the women of breeding age, and are mating with them. The women who are left over are used for slave labor and when they die, they are used to help nourish the soil. Era is of child-bearing age, but she's been hiding in plain sight and working in the rice paddies. But, when the overseer sees that she's on her period, he decides that she's broken and is going to dispose of her. However, the superior officer for the entire Rathkari occupation just happens to walk on the field at that exact moment and saves Era's life, even if she doesn't want him to.

Karlo sees Era and recognizes that she would be of breeding age. That means that he's going to save her from being recycled and claim her. But first, he's going to have to get her healthy. He doesn't understand why she is so mad at him and the Rathkari. She would literally rather fight him than for him to save her. But, that isn't going to stop him.

Their story is seriously complicated. There is no way that I can simplify it down for a review. If I try to explain the full story, it's going to sound really disjointed, but all the twists and turns really work with the book, and even though there are lots of things that happen, Loki has written it so well that you can follow it effortlessly while you are reading it. You might not even realize how complex it is until you have finished reading it. To me, that just shows how good a book is. And I can't imagine the book without any one of those twists in it. I really need to be able to give this one like 15 stars.

I didn't feel any romance between them. And his species destroyed earth, turned all the humans into slaves, sent the human men away or killed them.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

If you are a human of breeding age, the aliens took you to have kids with them. Women too old were turned into slaves on the farms. Not useful slaves were turned into fertilizer.

Hero finds heroine hiding as a farm worker. He takes her as his slave but she refuses to submit. She finally tells him she is infertile. So he lets her go so she can be happy, with lots of money and a spaceship. He immediately regrets this decision and goes after her a few days later, but she has traded the ship and disappeared.

She joined the rebels and had a secret baby (a son). She goes back to him with their baby and they live happily ever after. After he and his kind destroyed the earth and kept everyone as slaves.

I much preferred Loki Renard's Royal Aliens series.

A sexy short story that hits the right spot. Enough plot to make it readable, enough sexy times to make it exciting and enough drama to make it enjoyable.

Well... I wasn’t expecting that!! Alien Invasion and BDSM yes.. but not the whopping juicy story that went with it! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 And yes...there is quite a lot of kinky fuckery that fills the pages, but the world building was solid and believable. It was a really interesting read and had some great themes...Can happily say this was a very enjoyable read I liked the conflict between the two mc’s and that Era wasn’t a pushover. I also really liked Karlo, his dry humour was perfect. I also appreciated that he was man... ahem.. alien enough to realise his errors.

I will definatly check out more from this author.

This just wasn't as good as I was hoping it was going to be. I can't say it was a waste of time, because it was definitely not bad...But I can't see myself ever rereading it. The biggest issue for me was Era. I just didn't like her or how she often acted. Plus it was kind of hard to get into sometimes with the way it was written. It's hard to explain, but it just didn't flow smoothly especially with the way they would talk or think. It was too stiff. And speaking of stiff, it definitely had some hot parts to it with this dominating alien around. For the most part, I liked Karlos. While he was a product of his upbringing and therefore woefully misguided, I can't say he was a bad guy. And he sure did like his rope.

So Earth as we know it is long gone. Aliens came, took all the males, took all the females of breeding age, and left the rest to work the land. A setup that has so many flaws and holes in it I wouldn't even know where to begin. Era hides herself amongst the workers instead of being carted off as a breeder. Life on Earth now is a grueling hell but she's managed to remain undetected. Until an inspection is going on and the Commander realizes her deception right away. He quite easily claims her as his and takes her up to their ship.

Karlos is a high ranking commander and is used to being obeyed. The fact this tiny human female fights him every step of the way piques his curiosity and determination to have her submit to him. Which is something Era refuses to do no matter how much she wants to. They fight a lot, so most of their time on the ship is spent arguing, having sex, and Era being punished. After some weeks they finally reach the tipping point and Karlos gives Era what she has wanted since the beginning. And because they're both headstrong fools who can't actually talk about anything rationally (all Era's fault, by the way, because for some reason all she can spew out her mouth is venom and hate) they make a huge mistake.

Three years later so much has changed for the both of them and they're once again on a collision course. I will say that I was kind of pissed at what happened and what Era became at the end because it was just so stupid. But when we find out what really happened it did help make it a little less stupid. Even though I have no idea how it happened.

All in all, not a bad book. Just not one worth reading again.

This books represents two of my favorites, its author and the genre. The hero here exhibits the most alluring traits I find in men, confidence, brains, high emotional intelligence and strength of character. He reminded me of another male lead character from Ms. Renard, Gareth from 'The Firm Hand of the Law'. Both these men are my book boyfriends.
The story is captivating with the chemistry and conflict between the two main characters scintillating. The characters and story were developing very well through the first half of the book but the characters, plot and ending seem a bit rushed from the midway point forward.

Two alien worlds collide, and neither will ever be the same again!

When the Rathkari came to Earth, they had two objectives: abduction of every man and all women of childbearing age, and subjugation of the remaining women in the most barbaric servitude. Era's entire family is gone. Hatred? Oh, no. What she feels for the Rathkari is so much more. Escaping the wholesale abduction of women, she's survived for four long years under brutal Rathkari overseers. Just as Era's condemned to death, in a twist of fate, Commander Seale Karlo shows up for a snap inspection. Seeing beyond the surface to the truth of who and what she is beneath her filthy, tattered appearance, Karlo makes a decision he just may regret. All Era knows is she's being taken by a Rathkari. Kicking, screaming, fighting, nothing makes a bit of difference. As she's whisked away, she can only think of two things. She WILL escape. And Karlo WILL pay. But how? Karlo's twice her size, domineering, even amused by her rebelliousness and hatred. Much to Era's horror, her body betrays her with every one of Karlo's very inventive punishments. She's simultaneously repelled and magnetically drawn to this alien. How can this be? The battle of wills never ceases, despite the duo's white hot desire for each other. Then, one explosive event changes both their lives forever. When Era reveals a devastating secret, Karlo knows his plans have to change. As Era realizes exactly what Karlo has in mind, she loses every scrap of control. Accepting there's nothing left, Karlo does something no Rathkari has done before. In doing so, he sets in motion a series of events that will change not just him and Era, but the entire course of Rathkari/human relations. Era finally has the freedom she's craved. As she slips into the depths of space, Karlo finally understands two things. He has to retrieve Era at any cost. And regardless of what she may want, she will be his! Despite his best intentions, Karlo no longer has control over the events surrounding him. When Era and Karlo finally meet again, she's no longer the powerless captive she once was. Or is she? Who and what has she become? When the ultimate betrayal occurs, it's not just Karlo who's at risk. Is Era truly a threat to the Rathkari empire, a rebel to be condemned to death? Has Karlo lost any hope at retrieving her, making her pay for her betrayal? Absolutely nothing is as it appears. With uncertainty comes great despair and grief. Can Era truly be free of Karlo's influence? Or has she been broken beyond repair?

This book couldn't have been farther from what I expected when I started it. The complexity of Era and Karlo is nothing short of mind boggling. Nothing between these two is simple or easy. This is as far from a simple "alien meets human slave, they fall in love, and have a happily ever after" story as you can get. Era is truly the ultimate rebel. She hates the Rathkari with a soul-deep conviction that fills her every waking moment. It's how she's survived since her world exploded around her. Karlo is arrogant, dominant, smug, and dismissive of anything different from the Rathkari point of view. At times, I absolutely despised him. He may be dominant but his pompous self-importance makes him seem heartless. The sexual chemistry between Karlo and Era may be off the charts, but they're literally worlds apart. Era isn't just embarrassed by her physical response. She's humiliated. Karlo accepts her capitulation as inevitable and his due. Yet underneath it all, there's the barest thread of connection, so fragile it's nearly nonexistent. This is what makes this entire story so compelling. The hatred, humiliation, and thirst for vengeance that flow from Era, the smug, absolute certainty Karlo holds that the Rathkari are the be all and end of everything, are entirely believable. But it's the hint of something more, a gossamer filament of hope, that pulls you in and holds you riveted from the first page. Loki Renard is a master storyteller who's once again shown just how brilliant she is. Congratulations, Ms. Renard! Broken by the Alien deserves nothing less than five stars. I absolutely adored it!

A final note. Be an informed reader! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and Amazon. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author. She works hard to provide quality work. If you know you'll object to a book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.

Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!

This story (IMO) is an exemplary example of how the erotic, science fiction & romance CAN be perfectly blended into a stellar journey for the reader. I have read numerous erotic alien romances that range from bizarre, outlandish & downright ridiculous: this is NOT ONE OF THOSE. Not by any means.
I found the plot superb, yes, we have powerful conquering alien males wanting to mate & breed & dominate human females & initially that is what happens between Karlo (H) & Era (h). But as their time together stretches on, Karlo's sexual & physical dominance of Era, his little human captive, the relationship slowly begins to morph into~~ something else. But Karlo's people have one goal, to breed other species to ensure their race continues into eternity. But Era is beyond rebellious, beyond rage at the aliens & despite her body's overwhelming desire for Karlo's mastery she fights & rages against him at every opportunity.
But then Era confesses a staggering secret to Karlo that razes their fragile & tentative relationship into shreds.
This story is intelligent, articulate & has an excellent science fiction foundation & although the reader isn't subjected to pages & pages of world building, the light brushes we are given perfectly immerse the reader into space, rebel fighters & alien conquerors.
The author also gives the reader both Karlo & Era's POV's enabling us to understand both characters, why they feel the way they do, what they feel & why they take the actions they do. To me, Karlo was an honorable male, he was the way he was because of what he was but he never was or wanted to be cruel to Era, he had a genetic, inherited & command need for his natural dominance but he gently cared for Era himself when she was weak & ill & admired her fight & spirit. Era was strong in mind, intelligent, brave & resourceful but her body was determined to respond to Karlo.
There are misunderstandings, resistance, steamy sex, punishments, separations, dangers but most of all two completely different beings trying to be true to themselves & each other emotionally.
I really, really enjoyed this story & feel for its genre it is head & shoulders above many & I highly recommend it.

Era has been toiling away on Earth as a slave. The Rathkari came and took it all. They took the men, women, and children. What they left are those that can work the planet for resource. Era hates them. She has hidden herself among those that work. But when she is to be punished for not making her quota, Commander Karlo spots her. He knows she should never have been placed her. She is of breeding age. But what Era doesn’t know is that Karlo sees more than that. He sees the strength in her but to have her submit, he has to break her of her stubbornness. Karlo also see what is wrong with the planet and how the overseers are treating the workers.

I have to say, what Era has been living through is understandable. She is angry with the aliens that have come to take away all that she knows. Yes, it is bad but then you see what Karlo sees. He notices that things are wrong. That he hopes to fix it. But he also feels something for Era and wants nothing more than to protect her and show her the wonders of what truly is. The women are not mistreated but cared for. The men are not hurt but given better lives. Era just has a tough times understanding what she sees. She has hated for so long, I’m surprised that Karlo is willing to deal with her. But he sees more than an alien to him, he sees how special she is.

Then there is more to Era that we didn’t know and it is heart breaking in so many ways. Things intensify and now we are almost racing the clock so to speak. The sex is amazingly hot. The rope play is exquisite. We have a romance, a war, a rebellion, and salvation. I wonder, will there be more stories about the Rathkari?

Era is a slave, working for the alien invaders. All the men and boys were taken as were the females of breeding age, the females over 28 years old were used as workers. Fulcron was in charge of running the colony but Era was noticed by the overseer, she was bleeding. Era was lifted and carried towards her inevitable death, to be made into fertilizer for the crops. Commander Seale Karlo sees Era being taken and stops the overseer and makes a decision, he knows Era isn't bleeding because she's hurt, she is of breeding age. Era has kept herself filthy and the food is sparse, so she looks thin and frail, but Karlo sees through her disguise. Karlo realizes how fragile Era is and after cleaning her up, he feeds her and treats her well. Karlo decides Era is his and he will keep her as his mate and breed her. Every time Karlo tries to do anything to, or for Era, she fights him and curses him but Karlo knows how to handle his human mate. I enjoyed every single word of this interesting and exciting story, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out how Karlo and Era could learn to learn about each other and show some love and caring. I never doubted Karlo's affection for Era, he was so patient and understanding, I wanted to jump through the pages and take Era's place! Don't miss this book, it's loaded with excitement, adventure, some hot, kinky sex and battles in space. Not one bit of reading this book was slow enough to let me put it down to take a break and do other things!

SWEET, LUSTY AND EMOTIONALLY CHARGED! MIGHT BE MY FAVOURITE LOKI RENARD YET.

HERO is a Commander who happened to stumble upon his underling preparing to kill our heroine because she's bleeding and broken. When she was in fact just having her period. His race has invaded earth and gotten rid of all the males, using the human females to breed. It's all very base and appalling if you were a woman. He knows right away that she's no old woman and claimed her for himself, wanting to breed her yet he finds it a challenge to tame her. I like how caring and sweet he was with her when he first found her. He's also often more amused by her tantrum than offended.

HEROINE chose to disguise herself amongst the rice field workers to escape the fate of young women who were turned into alien breeders. One day she didn't not her quota and her period just came, her overseer thought she was better off dead until his superior saved her life. Not that she was grateful for it meant out of the frying pan and into the fire. She fights our hero at every turn though her body betrays her with his expert touch. But she has a secret that will rip them apart, one she is ashamed and grieving about. How will this alien male react to it!?

OVERALL I am glad Era got her HEA because she deserved it and their son. This one was great, I was happy it turned out well despite not being something a PNR lover hasn't read before.

“Bound to her Rathkari war general”

I received an Advance Reader Copy for written BROKEN BY THE ALIEN: A Dark Sci-Fi Romance by Loki Renard and voluntarily reviewed this book. Era is one of the few human women of child-bearing age left, and she is hiding the guise of an older woman to avoid being captured and used as a breeder by the Rathkari, who have long since changed the populations of humans on Earth. Suddenly she is noticed by her overseer in the fields where she had been enslaved, and marked to be “recycled” when she was spotted by Karlo, a commanding officer. He discovers she is in a very poor state of health and personally nurses her back to health before he breeds her. She is a feisty character, however, and keeps him on his toes throughout, especially when he learns why she has been so desperately hiding, risking her life and willing to be recycled rather than be mastered and bred by the Rathkari aliens. The story continues from here, but it is one I highly recommend you read, because their journey after her sexy-hot alien abduction doesn’t merely end here in a simple HEA!

Karlo saves Era from becoming rice fertilizer, but our feisty Earthling is justifiably wary of the Rathkari Commander. He basically fucks her into semi-submission, at which point they have a row over one of Era’s… deficiencies.

It was a decent read, but the ending was a little anticlimactic and one of the central conflicts between our main characters essentially proved null. The point was for Karlo to realize he loved Era despite her ‘flaws’ and that he would think of her as an individual before evolution as a whole, but then that ‘flaw’ of hers is mended. So… where’s the payoff? Where’s Karlo loving her despite [insert thing here]?

Also, the ending perpetuates how dumb and gullible silly little Era is. She’s a donkey following a carrot on a stick carelessly, which is at odds with the paranoid personality we were first introduced to. On top of that, humans end up being the bad guys and our big strong Rathkari need to save the day — hurray for the alfalfa male archetype, but it also cheapens his supposed strength because Era’s character was cheapened.

Wait, this is erotica; what the hell am I saying? The sex was fine and that’s all that matters.

Earth is conquered and only the womenfolk remain as slaves. At least there was something desirable on this rock.

I have figured out the difference between Military SF and SF Romance: In Military SF Earth wins. Not so in SF Romance where Earth is always conquered and our women enslaved. Oh, and the alien males are all dominant and well built in a human form. Curious.

This is SF Romance so be prepared for lots of dominant alien sexual activity. Our heroine carries a lot of anger, which is very appropriate to the situation, but then she seems to give into her sexual desires far too easily. The story is very well written and is more complex than I anticipated, but I found the character reactions to be a little too predictable. I would have liked our heroine to be a little tougher and smarter. But it was an enjoyable story nonetheless.

Recommended for fans of dominant alien males.

This is the first book I’ve ever read by Loki Renard, and it won't be the last. It had a forced submission theme however with the Aliens concurring earth it fit the story well. It also helped that Era was a sexual submissive and Karlo knew how to give her what she needed.

I’ve read a lot of dark romances an many I didn’t like because they go to a place that is ugly and there isn’t any underlying love and caring. I didn’t feel that way at all with this story. Renard made the tale Dark, yet I never felt that Karlo would do anything to Era. He would never harm her irrevocably.

Broken by the Alien was a great Alien abduction erotic romance. The story had many layers, and the characters were incredibly well developed. I hope Renard has more in the genre and I look forward to reading more from her.

This book is filled with so many powerful, intense emotions. With a complex story that delivers a lot more than you would expect, this book pulls you into the dark romance of Era and Karlo. It is a shorter length read but the author provides plenty of complexity and complications to the story. This book is very steamy and its hot scenes feature spanking, power exchange and other BDSM elements. It was as easy to understand Era's anger and frustration as it was to feel Karlo's desire to have Era as a mate, make things better for her and show her the bigger picture. Still it is all pretty complex and I think this is a book that will either connect with you or be a turn off for you. Myself I enjoyed it and I would like to see more books about the Rathkari. This is my independent, impartial review.

Era has been hiding in plain sight. Instead of being sorted within the group for women of childbearing years, she's kept herself covered in mud and stench of the rice fields with the older group of women. She does not want to be bred. When one of the Rathkari overseers sees that she is bleeding, he assumes she is broken and intends to put her throw her into the recycler. That's when Karlo comes along and stops everything and Era's whole world is about to change again. There were parts of this storyline that were so emotional I couldn't help but have empathy for both Era and Karlo. Each of them holding onto their own set of right and wrong they couldn't see or admit to what was in front of them. There were twists and turns, with a few surprises! I always enjoy Loki Renard's books and this one was no exception.

I wasn't sure if I would like this book, I bought it on a whim. After reading it I'm glad I did. I will be reading more books by Loki Renard. It kept my interest from the beginning and kept getting better the further I read. Era was a very strong willed female and her interaction with Karlo was fun to read. Karlo was really a strong commanding Rathkari leader. The Rathkari have taken over earth and have made the earth people slaves of one kind or another. In the process Karlo saves Era and wants her. However, Era is not the submissive type. This is an interesting story and one that I recommend for anyone liking alien abduction stories.

This was a fantastic story. I didn't want it to end. I can't wait to read more by this author.

Era has been hiding being a laborer working the fields in order not to be put into the breeding program. The Rathkari came and took over the planet. Era is almost sent to the recycle center when a commander saves her. Only she doesn't want to be saved. She doesn't want anything to do with him. Karlo wants Era even though she is dirty and smelly. There are many misunderstanding that they go through but the biggest is the secret that Era is keeping. Will they be able to work out their differences?

Well done!

I really enjoyed the story and quality of writing. A lot of similar books feel rushed and many relationships are glossed over or slightly abusive in nature. I realize that the point of most stories with erotic themes is to help readers get off, but sometimes the style or nature of the story can be a real turn off. There was none of that here. A lot of misunderstandings were typical of the genre, but i would enjoy reading more in the universe. There seems to be so much potential for other tales, and i appreciate that open possibility.
Thank you for such an enjoyable read.

Great story with romance and kink

“Of course you don’t understand me. You don’t understand yourself,”
Aside from some great kink, one thing I love and can always count on from this author is a great story with such depth of emotions and psyche. Characters make both good and poor choices, but whichever the choice, it makes sense from that character’s thought process and situation. This is something I think is more difficult to find in the genre of not just erotic, but scifi AND erotic. There are a few authors I’m aware of and read, and Loki Renard is one of them.

Sweet and short alien romance

This was a look sweet.

One broken little human who is incredibly rebellious. One Alien male, dark and dominant. She is his mate but is too consumed by hate to open to his love and care. When she has her period, she grieves and he gives her freedom, but before he can go back for her, she disappears.

After 3 years, he is betrayed, captured by rebels and escapes with a son he never knew he had. Her son breaks through her wall of pain and she can finally love his father. It was incredibly sweet.

You Are Mine!

I read through this book like the bounds were after me lol, I didn't want to put it down. I needed to know was Era was going to do to Karlo - she hated his species with every fiber of her being. They came to Earth and destroyed it. The men and makes over the age of 5 were taken and never seen again. The women that were young enough to breed were taken to be used to have their spawn.
When Karlo saw her he knew she was his, now he just needed to convince Era.
Loved this book.

Earth has been taken over by aliens. Era has managed to escape attention to herself until she meets Karlo.

Era carries a lot of anger, hate, sadness and betrayal in her. Not only towards the aliens but to her past as well. her feeling for Karlo make things even more complicated until everything falls apart.

It is a Alien abduction story with a few twist and turns. Nothing everything is as it seems.

I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an advance review copy

I am back to Loving Loki! The last couple of books were just too harsh for me but this book reminds me why I like this author.

While I don't think that "Broken" was the correct choice for the title, the story of Karlo and Era is a good one. This is more of a sci-fi with a side of sexy time. The alien invaders will be viewed a little differently, once Karlo shows up to see what is happening with the new colony. It is a complete story with a great conclusion.

Good story. Got a hot and sexy big alien Dom with a loving touch teaching his mate/slave/woman all about submission and spanks.

He showed off true Dom traits of always watching and being aware of his little Earthling. He knew how to punish her and get the maximum effect. Whether that was spanking, a lecture or being sent to bed, he only gave her what she needed. He was only doing what she herself was craving. It was nice to read.
