Rachel Wood finally learns the secret that her new boyfriend, Benji, has been hiding: he is a vampire. She discovers his world in the mysterious Lyndvia Castle on the Hudson River. But just as their romance is blossoming, Benji’s twin brother shows up with a message that might mean the end for them all. Rachel will have to decide how much she wants to sacrifice to be with the love of her life.
This one was a read where the cover ate me up and drew me in LOL Thought the blurb was good enough to read, but starting it I soon realized it´s not for me. The Hero claims to be 3000 years old, but he´s sulking and screaming, worse than a boy. The heroine is 15 and living at home, that´s when I knew I´ve opened the wrong book. I need more Adult, not HS drama. Sorry.
This is a total continuation from Sworn, book one and the first paragraph takes off from where it ended. I did like this aspect and it set the whole story for this book. The storyline is interesting, but a little typical of vampire stories, the characters aren’t yet fully explored and I am interested to read the next couple of books to see where they go.
Benji and Rachel escaped the school dance and Rachel is trying to get Benji to explain how he is capable of such strength and speed. Benji is frustrated and doesn’t want to share his secret, but knows Rachel has given him an ultimatum. Buggering it all, he spills the beans and this day is the beginning of all the trouble.
Rachel doesn’t believe what she hears and runs away from Benji. Arriving home she finds the police and worried parents. Telling them all she knows (except for the sworn secret), Rachel goes to bed worried and anxious.
School is horrendous; everybody is talking about the horrible fight from the dance the night before. Rachel is so embarrassed and her friends don’t really help; she is the focus of all the students and the football team is in hospital because of her.
The whole town is wondering who and where Benji is and trying to get answers. Rachel is becoming the bad girl, with the influence from her friends, but her relationship with her sister is becoming better and they seem to be closer than ever before.
This book does focus more on Benji and his story; giving some backstory and why he made the decision to tell Rachel. But there are always consequences and this one has been major. Telling the secret is forbidden and this has caused chaos with another coven. Rachel and Benji are now in danger.
There are some twists and turns along the way, the ending is left open in a huge cliffhanger. The introduction of Benji’s twin brother, Hunter is an interesting addition. He is a total opposite of Benji and I hope he continues to appear in future books. The book does focus on teenage angst and peer pressures, with the added fun of vampire life. I did rate it a 3, but will read the rest of the series.
This book gives me the same vibes as when I read My Immortal in high school. Like it was terrible and ridiculous and poorly written- but I couldn’t stop reading it.
“The car arrived in one piece and everyone got out of the car.” That sentence just baffled me in a way I cannot explain. I want to go back through and write down all the weirdly worded sentences and terrible dialogue but I would basically just be writing the book again.
This is the equivalent of watching a bad movie. Which I do love to do. So I really enjoyed laughing at how ridiculous this was, but could not recommend it as a book
After reading the 1st book of this series I really believed it could only get better not worse but it's about the same. Rather help being stupid, whiny, getting a bit more sneaky and defying her parent for her new friends. The school come on, after one stupid fight they make it seem like the school had a major shooting or something, a bit over active written.g on that part. Benjii being dumb enough to tell his secret then his brother Hunter with the evil vampire violet that has supersonic hearing..it's all a bit overactive. I could see the part where Benjii and Rachael had past lives together but other then. that the parents are crazy , insane ,overreacting to everything. The police come on questioning student's over a fight, metal detectors at the school, to much. it was a fight. stupid! the romance between the two is cute. it's a cute Y.A. book.could be so much better but it's just badly written. I'm only giving it a 3star be cause I'd feel bad going lower. it could be good. just not so dramatic about the wrong things. it's made out to be too I tense except the ending was good. the evil coven coming after them and destroying the police, literally, but for Bengjii, Hunter and scared little Rachael to walk out the door instead of escaping ....stupid!. Rachael getting shot then obviously turned. maybe book #3 will finally get better. usually authors get better as they write and grown into their own style after a couple books. I might just f just nd out depends. I haven't decided yet. I can't say I recommend this but if you read book #1and were at all willing to give it a chance maybe you can try this one too. I did hoping on good not great, I think I got mediocre.
I will finish reading this series simply because I hate not finishing a series when I start it. Reading these, one would jump to assume that the author is a fan of Twilight since when reading you find yourself thinking "oh how very Twilight". That is frustrating..I like originality. But I definitely was asking myself if this was some Twilight fan fiction. Too many similarities.
And of course, the errors are another thorn in my side. Having someone to edit your work before you release it should never be skipped. From having "he" where it should have said "she" to incomplete sentences, it was just sloppy. I'm hoping that book 3 will progress better and have more substance because so far this story falls flat. I'm hoping book three doesn't make me reconsider my "finish a series" rule.
After reading books one and two I'm still not impressed with the quality or depth of the story line. The scenes are basic. I doubt I will continue with the series.
This definitely a good book to read, I like short stories as much as like the full novel, but I'm hoping nothing happens to Benji >.< I like that Kid. man child or whatever lol
Spoilers ahead!! This is a continuation of where the first book left off with Benji making Rachel swear to keep what he has to say a secret. She agrees but once she finds out the truth about him being a vampire and how old he is she runs away from him and returns home to find police sirens in front of her house to question her about the Halloween incident involving Rob and other players of the football team in which happens in the first book. Despite Rachel running away from Benji she keeps his secret and lies to the cops, her parents, and then decides to write everything down in her diary. She goes to school only to receive weird looks from everyone and questioned again by cops, her parents, and her friends.
Skipping forward, Benji finds his brother Hunter to tell him what he'd done only to get his entire coven in trouble with Violet who is leader of another coven. Hunter tries to change Violet's mind about what she heard but she's not having it. Rachel in the end decides she cannot be without Benji and goes to find him to be with him. Before anything happens however they find out from Hunter that Violet is out to kill them both and at that same moment the police arrives and a shootout begins and Rachel gets shot in the stomach. Bleeding out Benji flies them away to another location to turn her into a vampire and the book ends!!

It's really bad, I just continued reading it because it makes me laugh at how bad it can be... Following the first book where nothing really happened, we"discover" that Benji was a vampire (what a surprise). Once again, nothing truly happens until the end of the book, the majority of the scenes that happen do not serve the narrative, it feels like it's just to fill in some pages. When the author decides to describe something, she resorts mostly to brands (Rachel put on her Maybeline mascara and her MTV t-shirt, and many other examples)... Emma Knight, besides of writing in a repetitive way and having many typos, she doesn't know the difference between "then" and "than" (English is not my mother tongue and even I can differentiate them!). It feels like this series was not proofread at all! To sum it up, it's like a cheap "Twilight" rip off that meets "Fallen". The fanfic "My Immortal" is a masterpiece compared to this...
I just cannot finish this book. For God's sake it's just so BAD! Rachel is retarded, for starters, I really loathe her. Benji thinks he's in love with a girl he's seen on three occasions, what a creepy stalker. Lastly, the police are acting like the fight between Benji and the football players was a freaking murder! In what dimension of hell does that make sense?! There are also soooooo many punctuation and grammar errors that I cringe when reading. Horrible book, I wouldn't recommend it.
These books aren't necessarily good or well written but they're certainly fun. This one jumped around to different characters which I wasn't a fan of at first but by the end I really appreciated the different POVs as there's just a lot of different things going on at the same time in this one in particular. I also was surprised by the ending of this one. (Spoiler?) I honestly didn't think that would happen this early on in the series. I have books 3 and 4 downloaded on my kindle but I'm also simultaneously reading a couple other series so who knows when I'll get to the next one but it's definitely on my reading list.
This book read like a bad vampire movie. Very immature and childish characters. Even the vampire that was supposed to be three millennia acted like a teenager. I would not recommend.
Ok!! I’m done with this series. I will not read the third book. I gave this series second chance, I thought because it was free the first book really bad. But the second book just same bad as the firts one. Byeee
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
I am not like everyone else I guess. I have thoroughly enjoyed this whole series so far. I believe Benji and Rachel make a great team. 😉 YA paranormal 💖
Vampires can't fly, but these two do. Two vampire twin brothers it's like the Vampire Diaries but better. If anyone liked the show and the books then I highly recommend this book.
Welcome back to the 2nd part of my review and this book series! I thought I will NEVER read another book from this series again...I lied... I only read it because it was free and I was bored so I was like "why not?". I at least expected to be a lot better from the last book(you know at least an OK book) but it even made it worst. It's like stupider than the first one.
Rachael finds out Benji is a vampire (no you think?!), and totally freaks the fuck out and never get to talk to him again. Everything was pointless. It's possibly about her mom and dad punishing her and she cries like a baby, being bullied by the one character who we don't give a shit because she's not important, going fucking shopping (who the fuck cares about shopping? Did the author forgot about the plot?), and other bull shit. Also Benji's brother Hunter tries to help him and Dumb-Ass Rachael from a girl named Violet who is the best character in the story. Seriously, why wasn't about her instead? Why Rachael? Rachael is boring and weak, while Violet is amazing and strong. Why can't Violet be the main character instead? Other than that, I suddenly realize this book was just a Twilight wanna-be.
Seriously though, who wants a wanna-be Twilight book? You know besides the fucking fans. It's just so boring. The plot just begins at the fucking end of the book! I don't usually compare about the writing because every writing is different and not all of them can't be good, but this writing is bad as one of fan fiction stories I see. Plus there's fan fiction stories that has BETTER WRITING and BETTER STORY than this. I have read a fan fiction story about vampires, and it was pretty decent compare to this shit (maybe because it was Death Note fan fiction).
This book will have just been better with "Miss. Dumb-Ass Rachael and Mr. Stupid-Ass Benji dies with each other, being killed by the Awesome Violet" and the book series just continues with her instead! Violet was interesting, strong, smart character but no we have to show these dumb ass characters. I fucking hate Rachael and I hate Benji for being so stupid and ASFUEMWGE4U87YRY89!
The only thing that kept me alive during this was watching "Two Best Friends" videos to survive this horror and now listening one of the awesome soundtracks from Attack on Titan and Death Note.
Now I finished this stupid book in one day easily, I am NOT going to recommended this book unless you have fucking brainless whatsoever.
I don't think I've ever read a book as fast as I've read Taken by Emma Knight. But to be fair, I skipped several pages, particularly the ones that featured Hunter and Violet. I'll get to those two in a minute though. While this was a slightly better improvement than the first book, I still hated it. This book made me so angry.
When I reviewed the first book I said that I would not be continuing on with the series, but I decided to give this one a chance because maybe I had just been too harsh the first time around. I should have left this book alone.
While Knight somewhat improved in the showing-not-telling department, this book was still poorly written. Knight might find that a thesaurus would be a great tool to have handy while writing because her vocabulary is so embarrassingly limited. I don't know how many times a character "looked around" or said something "in a kind voice." Oh and Rachel's name is still mentioned at least 300 times per page.
As previously mentioned, I skipped several pages where Hunter and Violet took over. I didn't mind that Benji had his own chapters, and is something I actually would have preferred in the first book, but why did Hunter have a couple of chapters all to himself? I did not care for his character whatsoever and had no interest in reading the story from his point of view. Violet was a boring, pointless character.
While the instalove between Benji and Rachel makes a bit more sense in this book, it's still ridiculous. Like I said, this book made me so angry. I get that fiction is fiction, but come on. I'm still so mad at the fact that Rachel nearly fell to her death due to a ferris wheel collapsing (this takes place in the first book) and people just fucking brushed it off like it's a daily occurrence. When her parents find out about it they're understandably upset but ONLY because Rachel had been riding on Benji's motorcycle and that the whole town was now talking about their family. What the fuck honestly.
The only character I remotely had any interest in was Sarah. Rachel does have a brother, right? Because he was not mentioned one single time in this entire book. UGH I JUST CAN'T DEAL. These books are so, so bad.
I'll never comprehend the 4&5 star ratings for this book, but that's just my opinon.
I will most definitely not be continuing on with this series and this time I mean it lol.
So far, still not impressed with the believability of the characters and their relationship to one another. Reactions seem forced, imbalances and completely reactionary with little or no convincing internal monologue to explain thought process leading to said knee-jerk reaction. Still reading, though.
Ok. I finished it. Still didn't enjoy it. The best word I can think of to describe my main issue is "disjointed." The basic idea of the story is decent, but it's like a conglomeration of all the vamp YA novels out there. There are definite Twilight-esque moments, then there are elements of other well-known stories as well. Like The Vampire Journals (one word:wings). There is also a LOT of product placement, and that gets old. Still confused about the moral messages. I mean, it's apparently not okay to drink alcohol or spend money frivolously, but it's fine to sneak out and lie to your parents (with only a twinge of regret).
I hate giving bad reviews, but I highly doubt I will read another book in this series. The writing style is juvenile and abrupt. The character development is lacking. The backdrop for the story is entirely one-dimensional. I just didn't like it. Sorry.
Emma, I love your covers - the artwork is well done. The storyline was sorta ok, but you really need to find someone who can edit your work for you. There were so many mistakes in the story that I felt that you must be a teenager writing these books.
Even still, someone out there should really assist you to make these books a lot better. I gave you a poor review because you also don't read up on your previous work. You make mistakes that mess up the storyline. For example: you have the main character always lock her diary and she wears the key around her neck. End of book one her family finds her diary and breaks it open and finds out about her seeing a vampire.
In book two you twist it all around like the family has never opened the diary and her sister hid it for her return, and it is still sealed. Then later you say her sister read her diary.
Ok, I suggest you re-read all your books and re-edit it and bring it out as a second edition with the corrections done.
Apart from all the errors it was a good effort. I will keep my eyes open to see if there are any improvements in future work.
You have a talent, but you just need to work on it.
Wow. These books are so confusing. Things happen to quick. Theres no details that space events out. Like in the first book, where did benji come from?? Out of no where. Benji was shoved into the scene, when ur suposed to ease a character like tht in. Or atleast have more reference on him earlier on.Rachel, her character is so irrational? I guess u could say. Shes so braty. Sneaking out? Drinking, smoking, going to crazy parties? What the heck? This whole series needs to be touchened up.this book is so jumbled. Out of step. No depth. This book was not planned out very well. The author must be new or something. Nd the desciptions made the books sound like a good read..but when u do read it your disapointed. Like hearing about a cute guy and figuring out hes not that very cute. (wierd comparison but yea) These books are similar to Vampire journals. Those were short reads like this but i actualy wanted to read more. This book was a quick easy read. Ill probley read more into the series but only cuz i have nothing else to read right now. Im kinda desperate for something to read.
While continuing an interesting story from book one and letting Rachel know that vampires are real, the book is ruined by poor writing/a lack of editing. The story lacks flow and continues to present Rachel as way more fickle than any high school student I've ever known. I do like that it focuses on a few different characters this time, so it's expanding this world that Emma Knight's building. Unfortunately, this book started to make me feel like she's trying to toss in as many popular vampire tropes as possible - a fact that gets even more apparent in the next book, but that's getting ahead of things. Still hoping that the books get better, but I'm less hopeful than before. Really hope the author revamps (ha, reVAMPs) these books to clean them up. She has the polished exteriors all good to go (and I really do love the cover art she's picked), but now she needs to get the interiors up to par as well.
I really thought this book was really short but it was really good for such a short story!:) I liked how this book started off with the ending of the last book. Benji is a great guy I think he didn't push Rachel to be with him or torment her with what he was. He tried to break it to her very easily she didn't take it that well but that's how I would have taken it also. Her life is changing rapidly she seemed like a whole different girl. I really didn't like rob and I didn't like Rachel's new friends that much anymore they seemed way to preppy or to rich and she seemed to be the odd one out which I felt bad for her. I wish she could find friends that were just like her so she didn't have to be so alone. The ending of the book made me mad because it ended were there could be another book and their is another book so I might go over and read that also!:)

Where are Rachel’s parents? Can someone tell me? Talk about phoning it in. This girl EASILY sneaks out of her house when she is GROUNDED and she even has a stay-at-home mum! No wonder they have a daughter who is such a mess. Who falls madly in love just looking at the person? YOU DON’T KNOW THEM. You need to know someone to love them. It’s called lust, people!
This story still seems like a Twilight rip off. I can barely stand the main character. The plot seems like a bad afterschool special about peer pressure. Secondary characters? Do you mean the mannequins and paper dolls that supposedly interact with the main character? I’ve seen more animation at the city morgue.
