ARC from Netgalley for an honest review...So, I normally like to get my ARC reviews out before the release...but oops >_<
Delia has been best friends with Zoe for forever. With both parents constantly working odd hours she has practically grown up at Zoe's house, making Zoe's family basically her family. That is, until suddenly, Zoe's jerky older brother Jack isn't so jerky. Boomerang Boyfriend uses the I-like-my-best-friend's-brother trope...and beats it with a stick. That's it, that's literally the story.
The Story-So I usually am okay with cliche story lines, as long as they are done well. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough going on in this story to bring in some stars on my rating. The story bounced between both Delia & Jack's POV, and even that didn't add much depth to the story.
"My life would be so much easier if I liked someone who wasn't my best friend's brother. Or if he didn't like me. And who knows? Maybe he didn't."
"Holding her like this felt oddly comfortable. I realized if I leaned down just a little bit, I'd be in the perfect position to kiss her. Wait. Where is that thought coming from? I needed to snap back to reality."
Now rewrite this a few different times, alternate the points of view, throw in a lot of doggy scenes & MINOR just-a-friend drama and you have the book.
In between all that there was a lot of inconsequential filler such as
The Characters- All the characters seemed fairly believable and it was nice to just have normal characters. Everyone had their own issues going on, however, it wasn't used as a major driving factor as a character trait. Unfortunately, no one had any memorable personalities either. What I came out of thinking was that Jack's best friend Trevor's family are really irresponsible dog owners (they constantly left out food when the dog was notorious for getting into, eating, then pooping/vomiting snacks)
The Connection-I think this book would have been a lot better if it was told from just one point of view. For me with a YA romance the biggest factor besides actual plot/characters is the part that makes my heart feel like its being wrung out. Reading about how rational both characters were with dealing with their feelings sadly ruined it for me. There were no moments of miscommunication or confusion that I didn't instantly know the other side, letting me know that it will probably get worked out.

This was a YA contemporary romance, between a girl and her best friends brother.
Delia was quite a sparkly character, and I liked her unique sense of style. Jack was a little rougher around the edges, but it was clear that they were attracted to each other.
The storyline in this was about Delia developing feelings for her best friend’s brother Jack after starting to work at the same place as him. It was quite sweet how nervous Jack was though, and how neither of them wanted to jeopardise the relationship between Delia and Jack’s sister Zoe.
The ending to this was okay, and things seemed to work out for the best in the end.

Horror story of the month in only one sentence ... I voluntarily read a romance novel. Would someone please alert a paramedic?
Delia: I have no idea what's going on with Aiden. Never again will I kiss a boy first. Now he's being all weird and mysterious. I think I need to move on and find a new boy. Not that I need a male in my life to make it complete or anything. Maybe if I paint some more it'll help. Ugh! There's Zoe's brother, Jack. Why is he always such a jerk?
Jack: Ever since Dad and Grandpa died in the accident I've been the only male in the house. Sure, I go to Trevor's place a lot. Rocky is a great dog and he likes it when I sneak him bits of pepperoni off my pizza, even though Trevor's mother said not to. I like being at Trevor's place but it can't make up for Dad and Grandpa being gone. Sometimes I feel so alone. It doesn't help that my younger sister Zoe and Delia, her annoying best friend, are always giggling in the kitchen at home. Doesn't Delia have a home to go to?
Delia: I really should get a job. Mum and Dad don't have any money to spare and it's not fair to expect them to pay for my art supplies. It's interesting that Mum and Dad have always had money troubles and because a few things broke recently they're sort of having to budget to afford decent groceries yet I have my own truck. Hmm ... Anyway ... Guess what, Zoe? I just got a job as the new Pie Princess at Betty's Burgers. Isn't that so exciting? That's where Jack the Jerk works. Let's not tell him I got the job and surprise him. That'll be fun.
Jack: What? First she takes over my home and now I can't escape her at work either?
Delia: Ah, art class. Nothing beats it. What do you mean another class is joining ours because their teacher went on maternity leave early?!
Jack: What? Now I can't escape her during art class either?
Delia: I don't want to have to draw Jack's portrait. Hey! When did Jack get so cute?! No, wait. I can't think about him like that. He's like an older brother.

I'm so confused. I'm way outside of my comfort zone here. I'm more of a horror girl and usually avoid romances like they're diseased. I'm much more comfy reading about people getting chopped to bits than getting kissed. That's why I can't believe I'm going to say this but I quite enjoyed this book. It would make a good holiday read, incorporating Thanksgiving and the lead up to Christmas. My main pet peeve, but this seems to be a fairly universal romance novel annoyance, is people trying to keep their relationship a secret and forgetting how to communicate.
Boomerang Boyfriend contains plenty of sweet and lovely bits. There's plenty of introspection and just enough tragedy and heartache in everyone's life (think death, grief and addiction) that ensures the romance isn't all consuming, until near the end when I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room.
I loved that Delia stumbled upon some of her quirkiness out of necessity but then made it her own when she discovered a passion, and I enjoyed her snarky side. But girl, seriously? You don't need to ask a boy's permission to go out with a friend on a Friday night. Grr! And playing little word games like you don't understand what he's saying so he'll kiss you? I may have just vomited in my mouth a little. Oh, and I'm so mad at her for .
OK, so maybe I'm more cranky with Delia than loving her but at least Chris Cannon made me care about her protagonists before I wanted to hit them over the head for annoying me. And Jack, jealous much? You and Delia only kissed for the first time, what, maybe four days ago and you've got your cranky pants on over her sitting with a boy at lunch she's sat with for, let me think, the entire book? Not cool, Jack the Jerk.
I was really liking both Delia and Jack, even when they first started kissing. Then they started questioning their relationship and their stupid started showing. Is there something in 'How to Write a Romance' that says your protagonists' brain cells must fall out of their ears each time they kiss? Moving on!
I adored Zoe and Jack's grandma and wanted to hang out with her. I wanted to pull up a chair in the kitchen and chat with Zoe while she baked, and of course be her quality control test dummy for all of the yummies that came out of the oven. I definitely wanted to go to Betty's Burgers for dinner, or maybe just dessert. Plus there are two adorable dogs in the story, Rocky and Buddy, who steal the limelight with their innate cuteness.
I can't believe I'm going to say this but I'm actually interested in reading more of Chris Cannon's Boyfriend Chronicles series. I just hope for my Kindle's sake that the main characters don't halve their IQ's once their relationship commences. Seriously, has anyone got a thermometer? Oh, yay! She also writes paranormal novels!

2.5 “Almost Book Boyfriend” Stars

I try not to get mad at books, but I have to say I’m pretty mad at this one, because I was so close to finding a new book boyfriend and he practically got ripped out of my hands last minute.
Like I mentioned in my last review of an Entangled Teen (Crush) title, I can often count on them to bring me sweet and cute YA romance stories. This started out like that. Boomerang Boyfriend attracted my attention with the “falling in love with my best friend’s older brother” trope, and kept it when I first met Jack.
Jack-the-Jerk, like the MC Delia called him, wasn’t a jerk at all (not until the 85% mark, at least). Sure he had the brooding teen thing going on, but I love that, so I didn’t mind. But most of all, Jack was a dog person. A true dog person. His actions and thoughts when around Rocky, his best friend’s dog, was just too adorable. Right from the beginning I saw Jack was a boy after my heart.
I squatted down and rubbed Rocky’s ears. “I bet you were framed, huh, buddy?” He leaned into the ear rub and sighed. “I bet it was the cat, wasn’t it?” He sighed again like he was agreeing with me.
Then came the whole story with his grandfather and his father, and the way he thought he was losing his mother, too, and I was ready to hug him because my heart hurt for him.
Up until the 85% mark, I was in love with Jack. So in love with him that I found it easy to ignore how unlikable Delia, the other main character was. I was in it for Jack and nothing mattered. But, then…the jealousy/pettiness plot kicked in and Jack lost major points with me. Worst of all, it felt so out of character. He hadn’t come across as the kind of guy that would throw a hissy fit over something so small as Delia refusing to share a secret that wasn’t even hers with him. I honestly thought the whole thing felt contrived and ruined his character, which was a shame.
I still like Jack, but it’s disappointing to go from love to like here because of something so silly.
As for Delia, I can’t say I felt as bad for my change of heart. I thought she was an interesting character in the beginning, because she had the “I don’t care what other people thing” attitude and she even made it sound genuine. But then she turned into a little monster early on, and she completely lost me.
I went from annoyed to mad with Delia pretty fast. She came across as selfish and immature when she poorly dealt with the situation with Aiden. The guy was sharing a huge secret with her, and explained why it was a secret, and instead of being a friend, she was only worried about herself. Besides, it wasn’t as if she had been so in love with him that his rejection really hurt her. It was just a crush. So get over it already, girl! Maybe I could’ve forgiven her if she had shown Aiden a little more support as the story progressed, but in all honesty she only got worst.
In fact, I was way more into Jack’s chapters and his interactions with his best friend and the dogs (plural, because he adopted one for himself) than anything about his relationship with Delia. It simply didn’t work for me, because I had no sympathy for Delia at all.
I truly enjoyed all of Jack’s scenes with Trevor, Rocky and Buddy (the puppy), and I wish the book had been about those two best friends and their amazing dogs being adorable together. Someone write me this book:
If it had been, and if Jack hadn’t been ruined at the end, I wouldn’t rated this book higher (even though the writing was too simplistic for my taste) and added Jack to my book boyfriend list.

This is third in a series and the characters of this are setup in the second book. I highly recommend reading at least that one first.
It has been nearly a month since I finished this and I wish I had reviewed it sooner. I'll relate what I remember I was going to talk about in a review, but I've probably forgotten some. The primary thing I recall is that it seems that Cannon doesn't do as well with stories that have characters from another book. The characters aren't as good a fit for the story and their relationship doesn't feel as natural. Delia and Jack would make a good enemies to lovers (in the High School sense) story but I couldn't help thinking how temporary their connection felt.
Of course, Cannon does the usual fine job giving us relatable teens you don't mind spending time with. I really love Delia's independent streak. And I love her loyalty and sense of honor, even when the target or that honor doesn't deserve it. I really love what Cannon does with Aiden, and that includes his abuse of her friendship. Aiden doesn't mean to exploit Delia's sense of honor, but he does and I can't really blame him for it. He's young and still figuring things out and I'm so glad that Delia was the kind of person who would be reliable when it counts, even when it brought her so much pain.
And that episode was the biggest disappointment with Jack, too. It wasn't until he figured the truth out on his own that he gave Delia the benefit of his trust. Yeah, I can see that would have been hard. But he had enough to know Delia's character by that time and I can't help thinking that his lack of trust is indicative of how far he still has to come to be the kind of guy Delia needs. I wish there had been some indication that he would get there, but if there was, I don't remember it.
So this is a solid four stars. Cannon is just so good with this age group and their lives and romances and concerns. Her YA romances are always engaging and draw me in fully, every time.
A note about Chaste: As in previous books, this is the start of a teen relationship and the characters are in no way ready for deeper physical intimacy. So there is some kissing, but nothing passionate or that goes beyond simple making out.

I'm a huge fan of the sibling/friend of the BFF and this one sounded like a bit of fun fluff.
I liked Delia well enough. I liked her artistic side and that she was up to try anything and that she wanted to stand out. Zoe was a bit annoying and I still don't know how to feel about Jack.
Plot wise, it was a lot of push and pull and a lot of tell and not show. I wasn't a fan of Alden's secret being a plot point for the drama, especially considering how hard it is in real life. I especially didn't like how Jack was a huge d-bag to Delia in regards to that secret.
Overall, it was a quick read, but I didn't see any chemistry and the promise of banter was quite lacking. Honestly, the best part of the story was all of the dog parts.

Gah! I loved this book so much. It is exactly the kind of book I like to read. I loved watching Jack and Delia struggle with the feelings they start feeling toward each other. I loved watching Delia slowly begin to realize that maybe Jack wasn't such a jerk after all. Chris Cannon did an excellent job showing Jack's flaws and inner struggles with the death of his father and grandfather. His reaction felt realistic and broke my heart a little bit. I just wanted so badly for him to let Delia into his life to help cheer him up a little.
Also, the dogs in this book were SO FUN. They were the best comic relief. I loved the themes of family, togetherness, and healing. Boomerang Boyfriend left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling that lasted for days after reading.

Delia is Jack's sisters best friend. She is always at Jacks house, and it feels like she is almost like family. He sees her as an annoying younger sister figure and has never thought of her as anything more. That is until she ends up getting a job at his work place, and they end up taking some art classes together. When his sister isn't by Delia side, he begins to notice her as more than an annoyance.
Delia's mum and dad work a lot. She finds herself hanging out with her best friends most of the time. Zoe, her best friend has a boyfriend, and Delia is interested in his friend, Aiden. They kissed once, and now she can't work out why he's been acting strangely. The more she tries to figure Aiden out the more she seems to notice Jack. She must be having a boy break-down because Jack is a jerk. He's not boyfriend material.
For the most part, I enjoyed reading this book. Both Jack and Delia are loveable. There were so funny parts in the book, and there was more to the story than just the two of them. However, there were certain parts of the story I found a little irritating.
Delia and Jack seem to start finding each other physically attractive rather than mentally. I know they have known each other a long time, but I felt Delia was just looking for a boyfriend rather than the perfect one.

Three and a half stars.
I have to admit, I misread the blurb on NetGalley when I requested this book and thought, for some reason, that Delia was best friends with Jack's brother not his sister!
Anyhoo, Delia has been best friends with Zoe for ever and spends probably more time at Zoe and Jack's house than her own. Delia's parents work anti-social shifts and appear to be a bit switched-off, they don't remember to buy food and sometimes it seems as though Delia is the adult taking care of her feckless parents. Having said that, money is clearly tight and her parents love her, they just aren't often THERE.
Zoe and Jack have been touched by tragedy when their father and grandfather were killed in a car crash, at first their mother also seemed to have checked out but she seems to be doing better. They all three live with Zoe and Jack's grandmother. Zoe is dating Grant and Delia had high hopes of dating Grant's best friend Aidan, but he has firmly friend-zoned her after she spontaneously kissed him.
Delia is starting work at Betty's Burgers as the new dessert princess - basically she serves slices of cake and sings happy birthday if someone has a birthday (when they get a free slice of cake). Jack already works at Betty's which is a problem because Jack is a complete jerk. But it seems as though the fates are conspiring against Delia because not only does she have to see Jack every time she spends time at Zoe's house AND work with him but as his class' art teacher has left suddenly he is also taking art classes at school with her. But as they are forced into even close proximity Jack and Delia discover they may have more in common than they thought and the person who irritates them the most may also see them the best.
I have tagged this as "angst-angst-angst" because of Delia's parents and Jack and Zoe's situation and Jack's best friend whose brother died of an overdose, heck even Aidan has problems at home. But at the same time I have tagged it as low-angst because these things are just background and the actual plot is relatively angst-free.
I liked this, but I didn't love it. I see from Goodreads that this is the third in the Boyfriend Chronicles series and although it can definitely be read as a stand-alone there is definitely the feel that maybe I missed something - perhaps the start of Delia's crush on Aidan?
Overall, a sweet YA romance about your best friend's older brother, it's got dogs and pie and art jokes and it's about normal kids with normal names, albeit that some of them have had to deal with some difficult circumstances.

In Boomerang Boyfriend, we meet Delia and Jack, as they are working together at the local burger joint. Jack is the brother of Delia's best friend, Zoe, and has always treated her as something like another sister, so she knows he would never go for her, and she would never have wanted him to, but with them being forced to work together, he's starting to grow on her, and soon the attraction becomes a bit too much. Can they get over their initial apprehensions to make a proper go at a relationship.
This was by first book by this author, and I found myself really enjoying it. Reading it in the middle of summer, this was the perfect time, as it was definitely cute and fun. Both characters were real, and relatable, and I definitely found myself like the whole dual pov aspect of the book. Yeah, there was some unnecessary drama, but that's to be expected if I'm honest, and all in all, I'm happy I read this one. Definitely a quick read, with excellent chemistry, perfect for the summer time.

So this book is a YA fluffy-romance contemporary. Recently I have been craving for some easy-read books so I was thrilled when I saw an email with a copy if this!
This book is about Delia, a highschool student who has a bestfriend, Zoe, that has a hot and gorgeous brother, Jack. Delia and Zoe were bestfriends since they were kids, but she weren't very much fond of Jack because she sees him as a jerk and Jack, on the other hand, sees Delia as an annoying sister.
But Delia got hired on a restaurant wherein Jack is currently working, and Jack's Art class was merged into Delia's plus holidays came which means more hanging out with Zoe on their house and before they knew it the law of proximity in attraction hits them on the right places.
I really like Delia's character, she's edgy and expressive and trust-worthy. She's my favorite character on this book.
It's a little tricky when it comes to Jack, because there are times that he owned his title of being a jerk. I do understand where he is coming from considering what he's gone through with his family and stuff but his actions towards Delia where kind of leading me to thinking that he just want a fling. But what I like most about him is his fondness of dogs ❤️ dogpeople are the best people especially when you are a guy and you are gorgeous.
So overall I enjoyed this book tho i think it could have been better if the author added a little bit more feels and emotions and metaphors. But anyhow, it is fast-paced and entertaining. Finished it in a day and a half considering i was also reading this with another dystopian book.

Unfortunately this book was just meh.. there was a force of conflict, also a weird way on how the problem was solved between the couple. I found with less than 30% left to go in the book it started to keep pieces of information and rush through to the end and for that reason two stars were taken off.

I really wanted to love this book. It sounded very cute and adorable. And honestly, who doesn't love a fluffy little contemporary? Plus, that cover just makes my heart all fuzzy. But there was just some things I couldn't look past and it kind of hindered my enjoyment of this book.
I think for starters, my version of this book was formatted very poorly. I had a lot of column like pages and it made the book a little hard to read. This could be my Kindle as well. I have an older version of the Fire Kindle by Amazon. I also think that mine was uncorrected proof, which would make sense as there was a lot of little errors and sentence structure issues. This just needed a once over by an editor and I think it would be good to go.
I liked the characters for the most part. There was a lot but I was able to keep track of them all due to their personalities. They were fleshed out pretty well, which sometimes doesn't happen with contemporaries. Delia was a good and solid character. I liked that she was confident about herself but she still had insecurities. Jack was alright. He was a little over the top with his issues about Delia keeping Aiden's secret. Aidan and Zoe were fleshed out pretty well. I wouldn't mind reading a book on Zoe. She was the most fun.
Overall, I liked this book but I think the formatting issues and editing issues really hindered me from loving this book. I think it was also a bit too simplistic. But that might be a me not you type of situation. I am 24 years old and my reading tastes have changed as I have gotten older. However, despite the less than stellar review, I think this book would be good for younger teens that are interested in starting romance and contemporary novels.

Most books from Entangled Teen (Crush) are cute reads and this was no exception. They're fun and easy to read. A perfect choice for me to read between fantasies or more serious books.
Delia is a bit annoying at times, but I love that she's cool with standing out. She has pink streaks in her hair and does weird things with make-up. She's artsy and isn't really afraid to be herself. I loved that about her. Her family life isn't great, but she makes the best out of it.
Jack is kind of an ass. But he did lose his dad and grandpa in an accident and only has girls left in his family. He seemed a bit afraid to live life at times. But he's a dog lover and that made him much better to me. He's also close to his friend, Trevor, and that made him more likable.
I actually liked the other characters and would have loved to read more about them. Aiden could be a pain and was a bit boring, but I liked him more once we knew his secret.
I was kind of pleasantly surprised to find that this book took place in Illinois. Not only that, but Canton, IL. My daughter moved to Pekin last year and I'm pretty sure her boyfriend's mom lives in Canton. I've never been there, but it was cool to have that connection when reading.

This book was just what I needed. After having a longer reading reak due to writing my master thesis it was kind of hard for me to get back into my reading habits. But I can almost trust my beloved YA contemporary (summer) romances to get me out of those.
I actually thought this book would take place rather in the summer months than fall and winter. But it kind of fit to today's cloudy weather which is why this cute love story still warmed up my heart and gave me summer vibes! :)
Another point which made me love this point besides the obvious cute love story was the fact that the whole story was told from both perspectives of the couple going forward. Of course, this book also convinced with true friendships and amazing characters that protect others secrets and try to see everything from a positive side although life can sometimes drag you down.
This was another important factor which I found very interesting about this book. Usually, you hear/read about tragedies happening but you don't often see how people cope with the situation after a longer time period. The enormous loss some of the characters had and how the hard way of recovering was shown made me really happy and also emotional at some situations.
In the end, I can just say I know why Chris Cannon is still one of my favorite authors and she probably will always be one of the few I count as favorites by creating such adorable stories. :)

I read this book as an ARC From NetGalley
Probably closer to 2.5*, but this book was just too cheesy. then again, I knew it was going to be, but everything about it is downright predictable and cliche. It's a case of instalove, except Deliah and Jack have known each other their entire lives. The writing was very TELL, not SHOW, which I am against, and they just said things no normal teenager would. Also, was jack the older brother or twin brother of Zoe? And i get that zoe and deliah are bffs, but if someone tells you a secret and asks you not to tell anybody, even you're best friend that 1.) means it's pretty serious and 2.) you shouldn't freak out on him and tell him it's rude or something because it isn't your secret to share. That being said, I did appreciate all the dog loving in this book.

The pairing of Jack and Delilah totally took me by surprise. We saw them fight like cats and dogs in Zoe's book, but in this one, we see it's because they actually share a lot in common. Boomerang Boyfriend let us see a whole other side to their personalities that was really fun. I really loved seeing how similar their worlds were, and yet how vastly different they handled their life's twists and turns. The twist in this book took me totally by surprise, which is a big feat. If your looking for a cute romance, with boys that make you want to hit them with a frying pan 30% of the time, this is the book for you. It will give you high school feels and leave you with a smile.

Boomerang Boyfriend by Chris Cannon is a cute YA romance, but not one of my favorites. I did not dislike this book, but I just didn't feel the chemistry between the main characters, as I have in other Entangled Teen Crush books.
I found this book to be a quick read, and recommend it to people who enjoy YA romance books.

This is a story about realizing that others change and you do too…it’s a story about growing up and making decisions you never thought you would. If you enjoy contemporary young adult, this may be a good book for you. It was a quick read with some fun characters that I think young adults will really enjoy it. So if YA is your thing, I think that you should definitely give this author a go…check out this series for fun and romantic reads!

What a fun summer read. Fast and full of enough mischief of a couple who were supposed to hate each other.
You see Delia Desmond’s parents were always working. And since Zoe Cain and she have been best friends since Kindergarten she just always ended up at Zoe’s house. The Cain’s were the family she never had. She suffered the loss of Zoe and Jack’s, Zoe’s old brother, father and grandfather’s death when they were killed in a car accident as hard as they did. Although if you heard Jack tell it that could not be.
For two years now Mrs. Cain has been like a zombie but with the help of their grandma who lives with them, she is coming around. Which is good because the four girls used to go for girl’s days out and have beauty days. And things like that had gone along with her spirit during those dark days. Jack however carry’s a bit of a chip on his shoulder and most of his anger seems to be directed at Delia.
Which is about to change. You see Jack likes to run from change or difficult moments but this time he can’t. He hates that Delia is over all the time. Where Jack sees her as a real live girl for the first time. The uniform stirred him up. The thing is when they both start to notice each other the one thing that stands out “Drama Queen Zoe” is not going to like it! As well as how much they each have to lose if it doesn’t work out.

The Cain’s were the family she never had. She suffered the loss of Zoe and Jack’s, Zoe’s old brother, father and grandfather’s death when they were killed in a car accident as hard as they did. Although if you heard Jack tell it that could not be.
For two years now Mrs. Cain has been like a zombie but with the help of their grandma who lives with them, she is coming around. Which is good because the four girls used to go for girl’s days out and have beauty days. And things like that had gone along with her spirit during those dark days. Jack however carry’s a bit of a chip on his shoulder and most of his anger seems to be directed at Delia.

Boomerang Boyfriend is the third book in the Boyfriend Chronicles. It is a complete standalone and can be read without having read the first two books. It might help to read the second book, but only so you can place the characters that reappear and the places. Other than that it’s no problem to get in the story. It’s an easy YA read with characters in highschool. If this is your preference I totally recommend reading the boyfriend chronicles from start to finish.
To be honest, after reading the second book I was a little wary of the third since the characters in the second book were a bit weak. This wasn’t the case for this one. Delia and Jack are really good portrayed. They have strengths and weaknesses and grow throughout the book. The characters seemed real. They behaved like real people would do and fit better than the previous couples. I really liked how they tried to make it work after realizing that it might get difficult and I especially liked that Delia wasn’t some whiny girl who defined herself only about having a boyfriend. Instead she decides that she has enough and that’s it. She gives second chances but makes the guys work for them and for her. She knows what she’s worth and isn’t afraid to ask for getting it.
This book is the strongest book of Chris Cannon I have read so far and if you have read other books from this author you should definitely read this one as well.

Sweet romance, principles, and strength of character despite the pain it brings all come together in this heart-warming young adult story.
Delia is free-spirited, loves art, practically lives with her best friend, Zoe, and has no time for Zoe's orderly and annoying brother, Jack. But when Delia and Jack-the-jerk start working together, something shifts between them. Too bad there's Aidan, Delia's crush, waiting in the sidelines with a secret that threatens not only Delia's relationship with Jack, but with Zoe too...
A cute, sweet, and well-plotted story, written convincingly from an immature teen's perspective. The characters were relatable and imperfect in an authentic manner. And the romance was believable and tangible. I felt that the pacing could have been better, with fewer scenes that took you outside the main plot. An overall fun read.

Fun little YA contemporary romance. A little slow to start, but Chris Cannon's characters are just so likeable.

Boomerang Boyfriend is about Delia, who has been best friends with Zoe since they were kids. With her parents constantly working odd hours all the time Delia was raised at Zoe's house. Well, at least until Zoe's douche of an older brother Jack suddenly becomes not so douche-ey.
Boomerang Boyfriend-hereafter referred to lovingly as BB- would make a better vacation read that something that you would really focus on. My only real problem with the books that its pretty generic with the whole best friend's brother-we have to keep this secret thing, but then aren't most romance novels like that?
So here is when I should be complaining that Jack was terrible and horrible-but the thing is I kinda loved him! Maybe even enough to give him book-boyfrind status...
There were so many little things about his personality that I loved, but on of my favorites what that he is a dog person. And I do mean a HUGE fan of dogs. You want proof?
I squatted down and rubbed Rocky’s ears. “I bet you were framed, huh, buddy?” He leaned into the ear rub and sighed. “I bet it was the cat, wasn’t it?” He sighed again like he was agreeing with me.
I melted whenever he did something like that...it's adorable, and I mean what else would I expect from a Crush book? But the pettiness and jealousy that he showed after a while kinda made me not like him as much, though he still is amazing. Delia on the other hand-I hated her. I couldn't find myself really connecting with her and her naiveness got on my nerves even though I usually find it endearing. She screwed up with Aiden after and the word games she played were immature, like it's pretty obvious when a boy wants to kiss you!
Other than that, I loved Zoe and Jack's grandma and if she were real I'd loooveee to hag out with her-she seems amazing! And don't even get me started on Rocky and Buddy, who were one of the highlight of this book with their cuteness.
Chris Cannon's books are always a win for me, and Boomerang Boyfriend didn't disappoint even though I wasn't completely in love with the characters. If you haven't read any of her books yet you definitely should because they're amazing-I'll leave the links to her author pages as well as her other series below!

I really thought I was going to enjoy this book. The synopsis sounded fun, I love the "girl falling for her best friend’s brother" trope. This sounded like one of the fluffy books I enjoy reading when I need to relax or get out of a reading slump, but it ended up not being very good.
First, the writing is too wordy, and most of the story was telling not showing. It also felt very rushed. The story kept jumping from scene to scene, which confused me because there was nothing indicating the scene ended, it just abruptly moved from one to the next. Everything felt very surface level in this book. I don’t know if Delia and Jack are a cute couple, I don’t know very much about them.
I couldn’t even enjoy any of the characters, they are all one dimensional. Delia is described as this artsy, nonconformist girl, but the only thing “different” about her is that she has pink in her hair, sometimes wears different colored lipstick, and sometimes talks about art. Her best friend Zoe is only there to talk about boys with her, and add to the drama because Delia likes her brother. The characters also felt very juvenile at times. They’re supposed to be juniors and seniors in high school, but they were acting like middle schoolers.
I didn’t even like the main character. She was okay at first, but I immediately disliked her when she reacted to the news that the guy she was interested is gay. This guy, Aiden, tells her he's gay but can't come out because his parents will disown him, and she immediately feels bad for herself because she doesn't know who she's going to date instead...I'm not kidding, this actually happened.
The thing that pissed me off the most was that there was a gay character who was literally only there to push the plot forward. The only purpose he served was to make Jack jealous, and cause him and Delia to fight. He's supposed to be her friend, but she's still bitter that he doesn't like her, and doesn't talk to him until it's convenient for the plot. Don’t even get me started on the guy that thought it was hot that his cousin is a lesbian. Ugh.

"Boomerang Boyfriend" was overall a cute YA romance, but it felt a little full of drama at every turn with everything a bit more stretched out than it needed to be. We follow Delia and Jack in alternating points-of-view. Delia is Jack's little sister Zoe's BFF and she practically lives at their house because her parents work long hours to be able to afford their house/middle class lifestyle. Since they have been hanging out all the time since she was little, she has known Jack forever- and he fits into the annoying older brother role for her as well as Zoe.
Lately, Delia has been quasi-dating Zoe's boyfriend's BFF, Aidan, who has been giving her mixed signals and kind of put her in the friend-zone. Delia is a confident young woman with really fantastic conflict management skills and a lot of maturity that lead her to confront Aidan and figure out where they stand (which is just as friends, no more). So when she starts hanging out with Jack more, in art class, and at her new job where they are both employed, things start to evolve in that relationship as well. I'll admit that I didn't really see it coming and was surprised that their feelings started to change/it didn't really feel like it fit at first. Then it just seemed to be one thing after another- of misunderstandings, secrets, and drama-drama. I felt like it took them FOREVER to get together, and then it was just one thing after another.
The best part of the book is Delia's bright and confident personality- she's not the shy wallflower waiting for the guy to make all the moves. However, all the drama made it feel a bit slow and I found Jack a little harder to like (maybe because I haven't read the previous books, but I am not sure). He was a bit abrasive at times and seemed so different from Delia (which can sometimes be a good thing). Overall, I liked it enough to read all of it and to wait for them to finally be together, but I wish the book was even shorter and had less of the drama.
It's a very clean book, and it's relatively short, so people who like a lot of drama (jealousy, secret relationships) in their YA romance will probably enjoy it quite a bit! While it's not one of my favorites, the bright personality and strength of Delia still made it a really fun read for me overall.
