I don't even know where to start with this novel. I haven't disliked something so much in a long, long, long, time and it bums me out to have to revisit all those negative feelings for this review.
But I have to since I've waited long enough to fulfill my reviewing promise.
As soon as I saw the cover to this novel, I became obsessed with it. I had to have it in my hands as soon as possible and I couldn't request it fast enough! I was so excited for it but little did I know what tragedy was in store for me.
This was my first novel by Susana and sadly, it will be my last. I didn't even remember the names of the characters but luckily I wrote them down, so here we go.
This follows Tara as she quite literally gives up everything she has to make a deal with an old flame in order to save her family's ranch. Right off the bat, I disliked her so much that it was a miracle I even finished the novel. I had a lot of problems with the way she acted and the way that she spoke. She basically spent the entire novel screaming about whatever it was she had a problem with at that particular moment and it wasn't fun.
I can't even wrap my head around her love interest, Joel. Yes, he sounded insanely handsome but that's about the only positive thing I have to say about him. He was super aggressive and his temper was uncontrollable even when the situation didn't ask for it. I dislike Tara to the moon and back a few times but everyone deserves someone who will support you when you want to get further in life. Was that Joel? Absolutely not. He didn't get the memo. He instead chewed her head off and threw a tantrum all because she wanted something that didn't revolve around him.... WHAT?! Characters will always automatically have respect from me for being created but he lost it almost immediately after opening his mouth. Nobody's entire life should revolve around one person and that was the biggest problem for me in this book. These characters didn't work together and I couldn't support their relationship whatsoever.
The conversations in this novel didn't appear realistic to me and I felt like this novel didn't bring anything new to the table. Nothing was really happening through most of it and it just seemed to drag. I didn't notice any character development from these characters, and if there was, it wasn't believable.
Something we did get a lot of was ARGUING. These characters spent most of the book fighting with each other and revisiting the same old argument over and over again that it grew tedious. They didn't even fight about important things. It was all nonsense and all of those scenes just ended up feeling like 'fillers' to me. Which would've been okay had other important plot things been going on but that wasn't the case. Basically, if the author had cut all the arguments between these two from this book, I probably wouldn't even have a book to review right now.
My other problem with the writing was that Susana tried hinting about some stuff Tara was dealing with that were just extremely obvious. It would've just been better if it wouldn't have been treated as such a big 'secret' but that's just me.
I honestly couldn't finish this fast enough. The only reason I'm not giving this a solid 1 star is because the last third seemed to be a little more tolerable than the previous two thirds.

Whispers of My Skin is Tara and Joel’s love story. These two met as teenagers when Joel worked for Tara’s father but sadly events that happened in their lives tore these two young lovers apart. Twelve years later Tara needs someone to help her run her fathers ranch as it has had nothing but troubles since she took over. Tara goes to Joel and asks him to run the ranch. Joel agrees… but Tara must marry him.
This book was quite the ride! Full of action, some suspense, and a lot of chemistry between the two characters I flew through the book in a span of two days (this is super fast for me haha)! There was so much going on that I had to know what was going to happen to Tara and Joel next, as well as to see what would even just happen between the two of them ignoring everything else the story had to offer. There was a mystery in this as well as a passionate love story!
Tara and Joel are both very passionate people and set on making their ranch thrive which is something I felt was very admirable. Tara was an interesting character and I found her drive and desire to better herself in life inspiring. Though at times she did frustrate me. One thing that bothered me was she always referred to another female character as a ”b****” I just found that there could have been other ways for her to express her dislike (even if founded) of this character, it just felt unnecessary at times. Joel was also an interesting character who had flaws (one instance comes to mind) but who was a believable character because of these flaws! I also loved Fermin! I want him to get his own book Susana!! I would love to see the person who he ends up with and what their relationship would be like!!
Overall, I definitely recommend this book! I will definitely be picking up more of Susana’s English books, especially if they are action packed as Whispers of Skin!

I received and ARC for this book. What a good second chance Love Story. Fermin was hysterical!!! A lot of twists and turns in this read. Tara and Joel were hot. Joel’s alphaness at certain times annoyed me like when he was against her pursuing her dreams other that I loved that these two characters never stopped loving each other!! Great read!!

In the dedication of this book, the author states "enjoy the ride" and it was a ride indeed! I was very torn on whether to give this book 3 or 4 stars, so I am giving it a solid 3.5! I really did enjoy how this story unfolded and how the main characters developed despite their initial introduction.

This is a second-chance romance with lots of twists and turns. Tara is desperate to save her family's ranch, and turns to her first true love, Joel, to help save it. Although I came to love Joel and his loyalty to Tara, I did feel that the introduction to these two characters and their relationship was too rushed. I would have initially been more invested in their relationship had there been a Prologue flashing back to their earlier time together prior to the first couple of Chapters and all that unfolds within them. I was shocked with what was put on the table initially, and how quickly these two fell back together. That's not to say it came easy - they faced obstacle after obstacle; and Tara's feelings wavered between lust, love, desperation, anger, jealousy, hurt, and went around and around. At times, I was a bit frustrated with her character. Luckily, Joel proved to be the steady and protective Alpha "caveman" throughout - and eventually he had me swooning.
There are some interesting side characters - one being Tara's best friend, Fermin, who provides some light-hearted relief in the midst of some crazy circumstances.
This book is definitely a ride that will take you back in time, through family drama, financial scandal, death and health scares, and of course the roller-coaster ride of first and lasting love. Buckle up readers for this one!

Loved how this verse sets the tone of the whole story.
Whispers of My Skin is the story of Tara and Joel and what a story it is.
Tara is dealing with a world of hurt on her shoulders and you get glimpses of something more that is going on with her, but you don't really know until Susana decides to share it with you and she does so spectacularly. Tara knows what her failings are and in reuniting with Joel, she hopes to get his help to fix some of them and will do just about anything for his help.
Joel is the ultimate alpha. He comes from a rough childhood and is looked down upon by the people that employees him. Back in his younger years he falls in love with a ranch owners daughter (Tara) and things go horribly for both Joel and Tara. "Keep the Faith" Flash forward 12 years later and Tara is again in front of him and he knows, that this is his forever.
I loved the angst, the suspense and the chemistry between Tara and Joel is perfection. They have to suffer through some terrible things but there is a happily ever after!
I am so glad I was able to read this story! I am looking forward to what will come next! Thank you for your words Susana!

Well, that was nothing like I was expecting.... and I loved it. Such a great take on a country/western romance. There is always some kind of mystery or unanswered question lingering throughout this book. I was definitly captivated the entire time, sitting on the edge of my seat.
And can we talk about Joel....mhm he is definitly alpha cowboy while showing his vulnerability at the right times. You know what they say... "save a horse, ride a cowboy."
Tara is a different kind of heroine too. To me she's a little bit of everything, not 100% country or city girl, vulnerable but strong, determined but scared.
From the moment that Joel and Tara are introduced to us on the pages you can sense their chemistry. I loved them together, they really complimented each other. Without Joel I don't know if Tara would have realized her full potential.

A true story of second chance; It does not matter how much Joel and Tara went through their love was always present. A story that catches you from the beginning and you can not stop reading. Joel is a 100% sexy cowboy who dominates everything in his step .. Tara I loved his strength and determination.
This story teaches us that no matter what circumstances life presents us with, we must always fight for what we want, it does not matter if at first it does not turn out to be the right moment and that is what Joel and Tara do; fight together until the end obtaining if reward.
Susana once again has given everything of you to create a Success.

I love adding new authors to me to my yearly read list and this one was a beautiful love story. A story to make you see that when true love strikes it will stay with you forever no matter how much you tried to denied it or how much time has passed.
I love the undeniable chemistry between the main characters. Tara and Joel met at a young age were first and forbidden love bloomed. They came from different worlds and were force to give each other up. Many years later Tara is force to seek the help from the one that got away. Joel takes this opportunity to fulfill old desires and claim not just Redlands. Joel is a REAL ALPHA MALE. Possessive and a bit controlling of Tara. Needing to always make sure she is safe. Tara may be a delicate flower is his eyes but she has a passion and determination in her that wont ever let her be defeat. They will fight their feelings to no end. Mystery and a bit of suspense will be part of this story. Painful moments that will leave you with WTHs. Passionate scenes will make you swoon. Some characters I HATED and trust me when you met them you will too but there’s others you will absolutely LOVE like FERMIN (Tara’s best friend). I had some great laughs thanks to him and I bet you will too.
The only thing I didn’t absolutely love about this story was that I felt the couple dealt with too many traumas and ordeals for them to transition for one to the other. That said I will gladly read Susana’s next novel.

Whispers of my Skin was a slow burn, friends to lovers book featuring Tara and Joel. They haven't seen in each other in awhile but as fate would have it, they are back in each others lives. And to make it even better- a true southern Cowboy read - who doesn't love a cowboy rancher!
I did enjoy this book- the beginning did a great job of leaving just enough intrigue to keep you reading. You have to know what could events could have possibly transpired that has left Tara in the predicament she is in now.
There was a lot of back and forth between the two- I did love when they would get together, but more often than not something ridiculous would happen that would break them apart. I did enjoy the whole story, but I thought could have been told better with less drama. It was a lot to take in, but at the end of the day I was invested in and enjoyed the characters and their story.
I give this book 3.5 stars because It was well organized, it was captivating, I enjoyed the story and I thought the characters were relatable although at times unrealistic. I picture this book best read on a vacation in the mountains sipping on some coffee and looking at the beautiful land. So if that is something you have planned, pick this book up!

There were many great parts of this book. The reunion was very bittersweet and made you want to read more. The attraction between the characters came across well.
For me, the constant hot/cold love/hate, it kind of gave me whiplash. I think a prologue of the past would of benefitted the story instead of the snippets throughout to give you better insight.
It definately has potential though.

I absolutely loved this book, it had so many obstacles that Tara and Joel had to get through.
Their story is full of suspense, drama, yet so much love between the two. They were meant for each other.
So many times through this book it had me thinking, "Oh my, can they really get through this?"
Joel is an alpha male who gets things done his way. The perfect book boyfriend.
& Tara is a spitfire that doesn't let herself get pushed around.
Can these two get their second chance and learn to lean on each other?
Tara and Joel's story is a must read, it will keep you on your toes and will be so hard to let go of.

It's such an amazing book. I loved every second. Second chance romance with mystery intertwined. The back and forth between the two main characters is just right. I was lucky enough to receive a advanced review copy.

My first ever Susana Mohel book. I'd like to say I feel in love with her writing but it wasn't the case and I'm not one to lie. The story had a lot going for it though.
There was so much feeling and chemistry between these two, there were crazy things happening, secrets being uncovered, crazy people popping out everywhere. It was really crazy entertaining. I just don't think I connected with these characters like I wish I had. Everything happened so fast, it seemed so unrealistic and then it was one crazy thing after the other... they didn't even let them breathe right for more than a minute. Their lives were crazy. I just wanted them to finally be happy in their little ranch.
“You’re mine, Tara Sadger. I’ll never let you go, you’re never going to escape from me.” I groan as he thrusts deeply into me. “I never said I wanted to escape, Joel.” “Good. Because you’ve met your match and to prove it, this cowboy is going to spend all night taming you.”
One thing that I really didn't like was how Tara could never hold her ground. She always let Joel sway her stance with sex and it was freaking annoying. I get that he's hot and gets your body on fire but for someone who thought he had a baby momma behind your back you sure changed your tune fast girl. I didn't like how she became so weak for him like that.
This second chance romance had angst, suspense, lots of crazy secrets and spins and let's not forget the drama, it had a bit of that too.
I'ma be real honest, this was not the book I was expecting from that title and blurb. It was definitely a surprise, not a bad one but not exactly a good one either. I don't know man, I have serious mixed feelings about this book.

Everything happened so fast, it seemed so unrealistic and then it was one crazy thing after the other... they didn't even let them breathe right for more than a minute. Their lives were crazy. I just wanted them to finally be happy in their little ranch.
“You’re mine, Tara Sadger. I’ll never let you go, you’re never going to escape from me.” I groan as he thrusts deeply into me. “I never said I wanted to escape, Joel.” “Good. Because you’ve met your match and to prove it, this cowboy is going to spend all night taming you.”
One thing that I really didn't like was how Tara could never hold her ground. She always let Joel sway her stance with sex and it was freaking annoying. I get that he's hot and gets your body on fire but for someone who thought he had a baby momma behind your back you sure changed your tune fast girl. I didn't like how she became so weak for him like that.
This second chance romance had angst, suspense, lots of crazy secrets and spins and let's not forget the drama, it had a bit of that too.
I'ma be real honest, this was not the book I was expecting from that title and blurb. It was definitely a surprise, not a bad one but not exactly a good one either. I don't know man, I have serious mixed feelings about this book.
If you're intrigued give it a read and then let me know what you thought if it.

Wow.... Whispers of my Skin really blew me away! Susan did an amazing job capturing me with an outstanding story about second chances and True Love. The romance, angst, and chemistry between Tara and Joel was absolute Perfection! The intensity between them was * fan yourself* STEAMY! Tara is at times is too stubborn for her own good and blind to what’s going on around her and Joel can be an overbearing alpha with a temper. Oh and let’s not forget about the family drama and suspense that had me at the edge of my seat!

Tara Rhett was the daughter a successful family and fell in love at a young age. She gave herself to the hired help (Joel Sadger) and thought they shared a true love that would last a lifetime.
Once daddy finds out, things take a dramatic turn. The love once promised by Joel becomes a thing of the past. His disappearance left Tara heartbroken and feeling her life was without reason.
Tara’s life doesn’t get much easier after she moves with her aunt to find happiness. She is called back to her fathers sudden death.
It’s then she learns even more about herself and her own strength.
All of the skeletons come barreling out of the closet when Joel helps Tara figure out what has really been happening in her life.....
This story is about the second chance, the love and trust of others. It also dives into a lot of dishonesty and hard topics of family betrayal.
I am giving a solid 3.5 stars for the cute second chance romance. The story line was great and people will really enjoy the strength of Tara and Joel.

It's almost 5 stars and I will tell you why...
It has LOT elements that I like in a book, like cowboys...!!! a so "hard", will, surly and so f***ing sensual guy, horses and passion. A very good western story (I love wester stories) and even though its a second chance story (im not so into second chances) was lovely and refresh.
Sometimes I really hated Tara, she was so childish and at the next moment a "eats men" but then I realized that everything has a reason.
On the other hand you have a very sensual Joel, and when you first meet him you knew that there is something BIG that makes him act so cold and all the book you're wonder what it was.
It's a cute story about two young lovers who grow apart from each other but they don't forget their feelings, only that are soooo"stubborn" to recognize them.
I hated Cassandra soooooo much and every time she appeared I wanted to tear out the pages!!! But I laughed with Fermín so much too!!
A quick and comfortable reading ^.^

I have never really read a western type romance before, but if they are like this one I will definitely pick up another one, or five! A tale of love lost and then found again are always the best types of love stories. And the amount of drama and twists in this book is just an added bonus. It seems in every chapter our love birds have to face and new drama and new challenge to face, but you can see how they get through it together and help each other out.
So as fast as the story and characters go I’m in love with everything from the concept of the book to the two main lovers and the friends and enemies along the way. The only thing I wish was different was I wish all the beginning you learned all about their past love and how they met and how they were torn apart in like a prologue or the first couple chapters, instead of kind stuck through out the book because it go a little confusing. But other than I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read and western romance !

What an entertaining book. This is a second chance romance with all of the angst you would expect, and an underlying mystery to solve. Tara is much stronger than she thinks she is. Joel’s dreams are finally within reach, but someone has other plans for both of them. There are many moments in this story and you can feel all of the emotions; desperation, desire and lust, jealousy, distrust, and of course love. The side characters help to move the story along and provide insights into who Tara and Joel have become versus what they used to be. “I allow myself to melt into his embrace until I’m not sure where his body ends and mine begins.”

My first book from this author and she has written a great second chance romance that will entice you in and keep you captivated with Tara and the hot and sexy Cowboy Joel.
She delivered a story with the perfect amount of romance and angst, mixed with the hot chemistry between Joel and Tara.
The twists and turns, the secrets and family scandals all keep you completely gripped.

This is the story of Joel and Tara, two persons who met each other when they were young and fell in love, but for differents situations they arent together anymore. After many years they are adults and Tara finds herself in a really difficult situation so thats the reason she asks Joel for help, because he is the only one who can help her, but to find the solution that she needs wont be easy they will have to pass so many difficult situations and problems, but at the end i think everything will be worth it.. If you want to know what Joel and Tara have to experience and live to have their problems fix and their HEA you NEED to read this book as soon as is available!!!

If you thought, that this book was your classic second-chance on love story that is all beautiful roses without any thorns, you could not be more wrong from reality.
Susana puts Joel and Tara through the worst scenarios you can think of from the first chapter and it doesn’t stop until the epilogue, you name it it’s there.
Joel is a broody, stubborn, sexy-as-hell cowboy. You will fall in love with him almost immediately and sometime you will also want to scream at Tara for her actions.
Tara is a beauty inside and out, but she’s also very stubborn and won’t let anything tear her down.
Despise all the odds, enough problems for a lifetime and Tara’s parents, who will make you want to rip your hair off your head, the love and the chemistry between Joel and Tara is magnetic and they will not be able to stay away from each other.
If you love a country kind of love, full with mystery, drama, bitches who should not even deserve to breath, assholes who can go fuck themselves, hot love-making and enough sweetness to make your heart triple in size than this is the story for you.

So the h goes to the H after some 10 years. They broke up in past because her father didn’t approve their relationship. So anyways now she is in poor and desperate condition. So she goes to the H with an offer to manage her ranch. She literally offers him her body. Like really? She is so desperate. Fine. And then the H tells that he will manage her ranch but she will have to marry him. Wow. And this dumb head h then says fine but she has her own condition that they will sleep separate and no sex. Lol. Even the H says that she accepted to become his whore and now she is trying to be a saint. I dropped this book there.

A great friends to lovers story. This story is about Tara and Joel. Tara is dealing with a lot. Joel is an alpha that had a rough childhood. Great story that had great chemistry between the characters, angst, and suspense.
