Scenarzysta Joshua Williamson (Justice League vs Suicide Squad) oraz rysownicy Davide Gianfelice (Northlanders) i Neil Googe (Suicide Squad) przedstawiają komiks Flash - Pęd ciemności - kontynuację nowego cyklu historii o Szkarłatnym Sprinterze w ramach kolekcji DC Odrodzenie.

Album zawiera materiały opublikowane pierwotnie w amerykańskich zeszytach The Flash #9-13.

Kid Flash!

description

Flash is a comic that evokes the feel-good ideas of right and wrong, family and friends, and redeemable villains. If that's not what you're into, give it a pass. Seriously.
Stop trying to make a Milleresque Dark Flash happen.
It's never going to happen.

description

Speed of Darkness is a Wally-heavy volume that features both the new and old Kid Flash working in harmony and spreading the feels all over the place. Adorable! I have no complaints.

description

The actual Speed of Darkness storyline is good, though I'll admit the plot is a tad thin. I think the main point is to show off (yet another) villain or Rogue that goes to Flash for help when they need it. And also to showcase young Wally's ability to fit in with the rest of the Flash Family, especially when it comes to being the kind of hero whose go-to reaction is to help...anyone.

description

Personally, I like to read about all kinds of superheroes, anti-heroes, and good(ish) villains because I think there is room in the world of comics for all styles of storytelling. So yeah. I do enjoy stuff like this, where the good guy is so syrupy sweet even the bad guys like him.

Maybe it won't be your taste, but for me? Loved it!

Much smaller stories in this volume told from Kid Flash's point of view. Pre-Flashpoint Wally West shows up for an issue. Next up is a three issue arc featuring The Shade, followed by an issue where Barry and Iris finally go on a date.

The Good: These are much more character focused issues mainly on Kid Flash. Felipe Watanabe and Neil Googe definitely have potential as artists.

The Bad: I hope we don't have to hear Wallace West whine about not knowing the Flash's identity for much longer. Yes, it is realistic that a kid would do this, but Jebus it's super annoying.

The Ugly: You can see the ill effects of a biweekly schedule on the art. Some of the art in this book is absolutely terrible. Jorge Corona shouldn't be left near a pencil again. Same thing goes for Davide Gianfelice.

Received an advanced copy from DC and NetGalley.

Next up in the Flash rebirth series, collecting issues 9-13, Joshua “Cooler than the other side of the pillow” Williamson serves up a heady broth of Wally and Wally.

This collection focuses plenty on Kid Flash Wally West, no the newer Wally, Kid Flash – the new-er Kid Flash. But the fastest man on the planet Wally West, the former and will be again Flash is around too, and there is some family drama with Barry not wanting to tell Wally his real identity, to protect him, but Wally is all like “NO, why can’t you trust me” and then older Wally is like “you gotta understand” blah blah blah.

But it’s Flash so I liked it but this might be just for fans.

The Speed of Darkness storyline featuring past villain Shade is pretty good and there’s Iris West drama.

If you like Flash and Joshua Williamson and some better than primetime artwork, you’ll like this.

THIS WAS SO GOOD!

It has a lot of great stories like the two Wally's finally meeting together and when confusion arise the elder bro helps out and also I love the way Josh focuses on Kid Flash and makes him face off against Papercut which was cool and like shows his evolution and grows some discord between the two and when The Shade attacks central city and traps them in the Shadowlands, its upto both of them to get over this and rescue Iris and Date Night and finally a great story about WALLACE helping Tarpit and saving the night!

I loved this volume and I know it might not be the greatest but it has such great stories and I was smiling the whole time reading this and its just one of those volumes I love to read and its perfect. Plus the art was pretty decent throughout. And the evolution of the new Kid Flash continues.

This was the first book I've read of Flash to make me like Wally (New52 Wally) but damn it, I did haha.

So Flash is still running around being Mr. Flashly Flash. Cheesy things like "That's A Flash Fact!" and all that. However the key plot point in here is training kid Flash (Wally New52) and getting him to learn about himself. Actually, I'd argue this is a bigger growth volume for Wally over Barry. We get to see New52 Wally meet Pre-52 Wally and kind of learn a bit more about how to be a sidekick. On top of that we get a adventure with Shade! Yeah, nobody cares about him but it brings some lessons and new powers for New52 Wally. last but not least we get a day where Barry is taking out Iris on a date and Wally handles the street side of things.

Good: I liked Wally! He's starting to really grow on me. I didn't like him at all in New52 run but here, him growing into his own unique character, is really nice. I still love Pre-new52 red head Wally the most (even more than Barry) but the character growth for Kid Flash is good. I also enjoyed that Barry and iris decided to try to work this relationship out (and my boy got laid! Woot woot)

Bad: The art is really inconstant. I also don't know if it's the same artist as volume 1, which I enjoyed, but this seems a bit more sloppy. I also didn't care for the middle storyline, the main one, because shade is kind of a boring character. Kind of felt slower paced and not good for a Flash story.

Overall not a horrible story but I liked volume 1 better. Kid Flash is growing on me but we can do a lot more with Barry. We must! However this is good for what it is. A 3 out of 5.

Meh.

World: I found the art to be better than the last arc. It's still awfully scratchy in a bad way and character faces are still off, but it is a lot better than the last arc. The world building here is okay, it's slow and plodding and there are no really distinct pieces for Barry's world at the moment but it's fine.

Story: I enjoyed the flash of two worlds issue and it was heart warming and kinda cool that was the best for this arc. The Shade story was aight, classic Flash story but I found the characters and emotions to be a bit hollow and hanky. Holiday issue was alright but I didn't like Barry being what he is right now, Iris is right to call him a Dog and DC has been doing this character no favours. The biggest problem with this arc is what Cold does in the end. To start off his Rebirth with that is just wrong. I'm sorry but Williamson...nope.

Characters: Barry doesn't feel right. Johns were was better and I liked the Manapul version also but Williamson and this version I am not digging. I can't explain it it's all the little bits and pieces of him I don't like. In one issue we went from pining for Meena to asking Iris out, that's just bad writing. Wally also is a bit off and inconsistent. Iris is nothing and yeah that's all I can say.

I am not enjoying this creative team. I am not enjoying these characters and I am very ready for a change. I liked Godspeed visually but the characters was not a good one. And now...I don't know. All the other Rebirth titles have been good so far (the ones I've read) and the weakest by far is The Flash.

Onward to the next book!

Well, it looks like I'm done with this book, for the time being. The first volume was ok, with fairly good characterization. This one was a total snooze. The Shade story isn't just dull, it's a poor use of the character. A lot of the dialog is sadly trite, and the characters aren't really going anywhere. I think that's about enough of this for me.

Speed of Darkness wasn't as good as Vol. 1 - this time the plot was sort of thin, the artwork was inconsistent, and still no Dr. Meena Dhawan (though she's mentioned) - but it was still good to see our title hero trying to properly mentor Kid Flash.

Severely disappointed with this one. I just felt it was poorly drawn in some scenes. Also the plotting seemed so much more cheesy and unwhelming. I didnt get a sense of fear whenever Flash and co were facing danger. Might put this rebirth flash series on the backburner for now.

The core story of this volume, "The Speed of Darkness" is all about Flash and the Shade. And, it's terrific that DC is continuing right on with their Rebirth, and so offering us a mature Shade, continuing his storyline from James Robinson's excellent Starman comic. But, beyond that the story is pretty mediocre. Fighting darkness demons, fighting through the Shadowlands, and lots more fighting. There are lots of good ideas in this story, but not a particularly exciting execution.

The two single issues, both of which focus on nuKidFlash are better. One is about him meeting KidFlashClassic and the other is about him standing guard on the city. They're both nice character pieces, and in particular the last one is strong on continuity and character alike.

Call it 3.4 stars when you average the various stories.

Read this review and more on my blog, uncovered-books.

I received a free copy of The Flash Volume 2: Speed Of Darkness from DC Comics in exchange for my honest opinion.

Compared to the first Volume, I found this second Volume to be a let down. When it comes to The Flash, I have never been overly excited about him. Some part of me just does not find it interesting that he can just run fast. I am sure that he has other stuff that he can do but neither the TV Show or the comic books have ever made me interested in finding out. This Volume has not changed that for me.

The storyline was very simple. Wally West does not trust The Flash as he does not know who he is, yet The Flash knows his identity. Wally wants to become more independent from The Flash and gets reckless doing so. The rest of the story stems from Wally impatience and The Flash has to come and save him and fix the problems that he caused.

The art work did not seem to work with the storyline. Don’t get me wrong, some of it was very nice but on the whole it just seemed bland. Normally when I look at the page of a comic book, my eye tends to be drawn to one part of the page but whilst reading Speed Of Darkness I found myself struggling to find anything interesting. As I am not an artist I would not have any idea what it is that I do not like but I feel like either it should have been more colourful or had on colour theme being dominate.

If you love The Flash, then you will most likely enjoy this volume but for majority of people I do not think that it will be good enough.

I wasn't really expecting to like this because volume 1 was pretty meh and I am really exhausted lately but I actually really enjoyed this one. I'm hoping to read volume 3 when it comes out later this year.

This could of been a mix bag of a mess but Joshua Williamson's skillful storytelling saves a pretty mediocre comic book. After coming off the stellar The Flash, Vol. 1: Lightning Strikes Twice Williamson decides to spend the volume of this series really building up the Flashes world and getting the readers familiar with Flash's supporting cast. This is not a bad idea but many may find this collection not quite as good as volume one. I admit this volume does come across as just filler. But there is a lot action and the character moments were well done. The two Wally Wests finally meet in this volume which opens up a realm of questions about the DC Universe and what is happening with the current time line concerning the Flash. I really enjoyed the inclusion of the old long time villain Shade. My only real gripe with the book was the artwork. It was a bit bad in some parts but the colors were okay. In short this book is worth checking out and works like a little adventure tale before we move into the next story arc.

Great character dichotomy. Fun and meaningful stories. Doesn't take itself too seriously yet maintains a solid grounding and strays from silly. Wally is a brat, but he's just a teenager. Barry's a mentor to him, and it's really all about growing up. Not the absolute most original story, but it works well. Maybe I want to read more about Barry Allen instead of Kid Flash from a main Flash title, but I'm not sure since Williamson's doing such a good job with the dialogue.

PS apparently I miscounted -- this volume goes til issue 15 and we are only 13 in. Nevertheless, I'm assuming the quality does not go downhill.

Flash in the Rebirth era seems to be almost as much about Kid Flash as the main character, but that's all right with me. I'm digging the new Wally West a lot, and it's nice seeing his interaction with both Barry and the Flash.

This volume is a series of shorter tales, a nice break from the multi-issue arcs we see a lot of lately. Barry and Iris get some good time alone, and Wally grows as a character too. The villains are so so, but Williamson crafts interesting stories around them all.

Really enjoying this book a lot.

Damn.... paper cut.... HELL YEAH

This is so stupid, at least make a good villain for brat flash not some origami man, I don’t like shade but I never thought I’d say this but there was a scene with Wallace west I enjoyed and it was when Barry was teaching him to vibrate, I don’t know why I liked it I just thought it felt like a cool moment and I also like the idea of iris being a villain but it just didn’t work for me

Overall meh book

In this volume, we get a more "by the book" type story of the Flash. It has to deal with a rouge gone good, who has lost control of his powers. At the same time, Kid Flash is trying to prove to Barry that he should be trusted more to handle more responsibility. So we get this back to basics approach to the flash where we mix super heroics with interpersonal relationships within the flash family.

It felt very much like a Mark Waid story where the plot is not overly complicated, but its deeply ingrained into the Flash and his world. This serves as both a positive and a negative, as the story feels familiar and "normal" but at the same time, we have seen this kind of story before. I think maybe a big story is on its way, and this book helps just slow the pace down a bit before leaping into it.

To me the best story in this was the first with Wally West appearing as a guest. It's a great single issue that touches on a lot of the flash mythos. Things like the speed force, multiple realities, a giant universal mystery, you know, typical Flash stuff, are all touched on. And this is where the Flash shines brightest, when it is part of the "bigger picture" within DC.

A good book with some good art. Check this out if you are a fan of the Flash.

This volume was primarily about establishing the Wally West character and his relationship with Barry. It's not bad, although a little to YA for me. It really does seem like Williamson is building his Flash world, placing all of the characters in a baseline state and that's a good thing.

I believe this is a DC Rebirth thing (perhaps it has always been this way) but Iris West is a reporter/investigator who can take care of herself and isn't afraid to get into tight spots for a story. Sounds strikingly familiar to Lois Lane. Wish it weren't so.

The art was better(?) than the last volume. Two or three artists rotated throughout the issues and none of them were standout. Hopefully there will be some consistency later on.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I don't have decades of familiarity with DC Comics, much less The Flash. I jumped in at Rebirth, for the most part.

I'm really enjoying the work on The Flash. Barry is charming but also dweeby. Wally is an annoying little sh*t but also clever and kind, like young teens are want to be. I'm very slowly coming to terms with Iris being so different from the Iris from the show (yes, yes, I know, put away the pitchfork). The small arcs are great, though they do feel a little abrupt and anticlimactic at times.
