It's been a few months since I read a cozy mystery so this was my first jump back into the genre. It's the 3rd book in a Christian cozy series but you do not have to read the other books to read this one. Miss Patterson is a retired teacher who volunteers at the church after school program and is currently helping her future daughter in law plan her wedding. When the ex husband of her future daughter in law ends up murdered she must help clear her name.

This story moved at a pretty steady pace throughout and there were few suspects so it was somewhat easy to solve the murder.

"Lemon Filled Disaster" by Tyora Moody

My Thoughts.....

This was another one of 'The Eugene's Patterson Mysteries...Book 3' that was once again a great read that you will find hard putting it down until the end. Well, it looks like Eugeena's son Cedric if finally tiring the knot with Carmen, however it seems like a lots will come out before that will happen. What was it in this mystery that it seems like both of the main characters had kept secrets that will come out? So, now we find Ms. Eugeena is not only being a wedding planner but will also have to help with her soon to be daughter in law's situation that also seems to have blended somehow with her son, Cedric. It was just a joy to see how Ms Eugeena comes in and takes charge to help out Carmen. I loved how this author will gives the reader a very suspenseful read and truly will keep one guessing who the murderer is. Well, before this wedding can go off this murder will have to be solved and we find Ms. Eugeena helping with doing just that. Well, it seems like know only will this case be solved and a wedding is going on...but what does Mr. Amos [another supporting character] have in mind to present to Ms. Eugeena during the wedding reception? Well, to get all of these questions answered and so much more you will have to pick up "Lemon Filled Disaster" to see how well this author gives us another wonderful good cozy intriguing mystery read.

Widowed and retired, Eugeena Patterson has plenty of time to spend planning her younger son's wedding. But when his fiancée is suspected of murdering her ex-husband, who has just reappeared in their lives, Eugeena recruits her next-door-neighbor, a retired police detective who's sweet on her, and looks at who else might have a reason to kill. The ending lacks specificity, but this is a good-natured look at life in Charleston, among respectable middle-class people of color. I do wish we'd been given the recipe for the titular cake, though--it really sounded good.

Teacher / Detective / Grandma

Using all her skills, Eugenia has been able to resolve murders and if she was an experienced detective. This one hits close to home. Her future daughter-in-law has now been accused of murdering her previous husband and Eugenia is determined to show she's not guilty.

I have to admit I’m slightly annoyed with this installment of the series. I usually find Eugeena’s actions cute or endearing, but this book changed that and was subsequently harder for me to want to read. The murder in this book involves her son Cedric’s fiancée Carmen. In her normal style, Eugeena launches into action to help save the day and clear Carmen and Cedric’s names. My first issue is that she and Carmen’s parents seemed to be pushing for a wedding the couple didn’t seem to want for themselves. Plus, getting the wedding to happen felt like the only reason Eugeena wanted to solve the murder at times. Second issue is that Carmen intentionally withheld her being married and pregnant previously from Cedric and Eugeena seemed to be really judgmental towards her son’s reaction because it reminded her of his father’s. Third issue, Eugeena tells Carmen about Monique before she even tells her own son! I feel like she’s more of Carmen’s mom in this book than Cedric’s. Fourth issue I never really noticed until this book is how much Eugeena implies that Detective Wilkes isn’t doing her job properly. On one hand she’s saying how busy Wilkes is and knows she following protocol (of course Eugeena only knows this because of the shows she watches and the fact that Amos is CONSTANTLY saying it!), but on the other she tries to drop bombs of knowledge on the detective like it’s information she would never have been able to figure out on her own. In the previous two books Wilkes comes to the same conclusion of who the killer is and ends up saving Eugeena’s behind! It’s sort of frustrating to keep reading. I also didn’t like that Eugeena implied that she should have “better sources” than Amos. Why would that make any sense with him being a retired police detective? Maybe I read the books in the series too close together, but this one made me dislike Eugeena a little.

An Engaging Mystery with a Twist

It’s a year later, and my favorite amateur sleuth, Eugeena Patterson, is back, this time as a wedding planner for her future daughter-in-law, Carmen Alpine, who just dropped a bombshell when a stranger appears out of nowhere, and a shocking revelation is revealed that will send the story into many riveting directions. Some of the characters from the last two books, namely Amos Jones, are back with the introduction of a few new ones with a blast from the past that keeps the story stirring with sudden curveballs coming from every direction. As always, there is plenty of drama and chaos when Detective Wilkes comes on the scene, where things are not always what they appear to be. With the help of Amos, Eugeena’s neighbor and constant standby, the narrative will keep you speculating to the very end, remaining us that secrets have a way of being discovered. The author is a great storyteller, and once again, you will enjoy reading this narrative. I am still hoping Eugeena and Amos will be back, this time running a private investigation agency. Keeping my fingers crossed for that one.

Perfect ending to another great story!

I have so enjoyed all three books in this series. The plots never get boring, and I love Eugeena and Amos's developing relationship. I sure hope there are more books coming about them!

I haven't read the previous two books but this was still an easy read. Cozy mysteries are my latest favorite and this one had good elements of mystery and all kinds of characters thrown in.

Lemon Filled disaster is about Eugeena Patterson trying to clear her soon-to-be daughter-in-law Carnen’s name while helping her plan her wedding. Everything points to Carmen as the killer but there may be a couple of more possible suspects.

Eugeena has to start checking them off her list, which leads her to the victim’s supposed girlfriend Monique. As the investigation goes on it appears, Darius was Carmen’s ex-husband, which Cedric wasn’t aware of even though he kept info from Carmen too.

Eugeena is accidently thrown into the case along with the help from Amos, a retired cop. It’s a fun cozy mystery with Eugeena determined to make sure her son’s wedding happens. I believed Carmen killed her ex-husband until the killer was revealed.

Tyora Moody does a wonderful job masking the culprit within the story to shock you at the end. I recommend this book to readers of cozy mysteries.

Here's the cleaned up version:

The mysteries Eugeena has been solving seem to be getting closer and closer to home, but this one was too close for comfort. She definitely needed to get to the bottom of it quickly. In the midst of solving another mystery, she's also planning a wedding and running an after-school enrichment program at the church for kids. But in true Eugeena fashion, this packed schedule isn't stopping her one bit—it's simply become her new reality as a retiree.

With the help of Amos and the persistent Detective Wilkes, will they be able to solve the case? Can Eugeena clear the "so-called suspect's" name? And whose wedding is she planning—her own or someone else's? You'll have to read to find out! And don't miss the epilogue—it's absolutely explosive! The final part of the book delivers some especially juicy revelations.

Eugeena Patterson is back with a mystery in which she has a very personal stake. When her son Cedric's fiancee, Carmen is accused of murdering her secret ex- husband, getting her to the church on time will be impossible if she is in jail.

I love Eugeena and her family and friends. Relatable, smart, kind and realistic make her a perfect amateur senior sleuth. No rushing into danger - well, at least not without backup, for her. Mysteries with "red herrings" are my favorites and there are several in the book. These keep the reader engaged and and kept me reading long into the night! I couldn't put the book down!

A wonderful surprise is in store for fans of Eugeena! I can't wait for the next adventure!

I really like Eugeena Patterson and her neighbor Amos. The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars was the resolution was lacking in detail. We find out who dunnit it, but not exactly how it happened because the full confession came outside the view of the first person narrator. It's still a good read!

Miss Eugeena is planning her son Cedric's wedding, and this time she's determined to stay out of trouble- right up until the moment her future daughter-in-law Carmen finds herself accused of murdering her ex-husband.

In spite of warnings from the police to stay out of it, Miss Eugeena recruits her friend Mr. Amos and dives right into the thick of the investigation with both feet. This time she's not being nosy for nosiness' sake-she is determined not to let Carmen be framed for a crime she is certain Carmen did not commit.

I enjoyed this latest misadventure, as well as her ongoing relationship with Mr. Amos. I can't wait to see what happens next to keep her retirement exciting.

The old saying goes...There is nothing a mother wouldn't do for her children and Ms. Eugeena proves that very well. I just love her feisty and spunky spirit. She will not stop at anything to solve a murder. Ms. Eugeena is dead set on proving the innocence of her future daughter-in-law and she easily gets Amos involved in schemes.

Tyora does a great job with connecting you with the characters and the story. This was another great page turner.

Fantabulous!!!

My favorite neighbor (in my head) Eugeenia, is once again using her retired living, to solve a murder. I am always transcended to the homey kitchen, for a cup of coffee, and thinking session at Eugeena, after all, there's a murder to be caught. My only regret is there's no book tour to jump right into. Hint, hint, hope there's more from this home griwn, common sense sleuth.

As usual Tyora Moody delivers a good murder mystery with fan favorite, Eugenna Patterson. I just love how she brings a story together and ties up loose ends. This mystery was a beautifully and eloquently written ending to the Eugenna Patterson series (Though, I want one more ended ..lol) . Tyora Moody is a great suspense writer than gives a reader just enough without being too gruesome. Can't wait to check out her other books. #Get into it

Eugeena Patterson was back with her novice sleuthing when a murder in the town’s historic hotel reignites her signature snooping while she’s planning her son’s wedding. I think this one was my most favorite of the series. I enjoyed getting to know Eugeena Patterson and the residents of Sugar Creek. And I loved the ending! I feel like we haven’t seen the last of Ms. Eugeena.

I’m thoroughly enjoying this series. Eugenia is truly exceptional, in a humorous way. I was searching for something that deviated from my usual reading preferences. I had previously read a series that was similar to this one, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can’t explain why I didn’t pick this up sooner, but I’m glad I finally did!

I so enjoyed this series. It reminds you of Michelle Stimpson's "Mama B" series. The lead character Eugeena was so funny and adorable! I could see several more storylines laid out in this book and I look forward to reading the next one!
