Fantasies. They’re something we all have, right? Secret dreams that we may, or may not, choose to live out, for real. But, what if your fantasy became a reality? Would it be everything you’d imagined it to be? Would it change anything? Would there be consequences …? Noah and Kari's marriage is strong. Solid. But when they decide to live out their ultimate fantasy, they have no idea of the impact that one night is about to have on their lives. Inviting someone else to share their fantasy, that was supposed to be harmless. It wasn’t. That one night was only the beginning of a devastating chain of events that nobody could’ve predicted. Inviting a stranger into their world wasn’t supposed to tear it apart. It did. And as shocking secrets are revealed, and gut-wrenching truths exposed, heartbreaking decisions have to be made. Inviting a stranger into their world was something they thought they could control. They were wrong... **Please be aware that ‘Wicked Game’ contains some graphic sex scenes, strong language, and adult themes. It is therefore suitable only for mature readers aged 18 and over.**
Michelle Betham is an ex-media technician turned author of super-sexy romance, usually involving rock stars, DJs, movie stars, hot businessmen, and bikers. But not usually all in the same book. Yet. A proud indie author, she also has six books published through One More Chapter, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, one of which is a pyschological thriller/romantic suspense written under the pen name of ML Roberts.
Addicted to binge-watching TV shows she struggles to think of a life before Netflix or Amazon Prime, loves music - especially rock and EDM; tattoos – of which she has many; spicy food, superheroes (she's a slightly obsessed Avengers fan-girl who harbours a particularly unhealthy obsession with Captain America), and Keanu Reeves – a crush that’s lasted well over twenty years, and one she blames entirely on ‘Point Break’. The original. She refuses to acknowledge any remake exists.
Her dream is to ride a Harley, visit Las Vegas, and be able to eat any amount of chocolate without putting on weight.
She lives in County Durham, north-east England, with her husband and their West Highland Terrier, Opie - named after her favourite biker in Sons of Anarchy! She can be found, most days, at her desk drinking tea and making up stories.
This was just not for me. I like a dark romance but I need to actually like at least one of the characters. The three main characters in this were just awful human beings. Selfish, immature and just dull.
I saw the big twist coming from miles away, and the fact that Kari, our intrepid heroine just forgave all the stalking and lies just made me dislike her even more. Such a doormat.
And maybe I'm bringing too much reality into it, but at no point does anyone discuss condoms. At a sex party. How stupid and unrealistic.
No one gets a happy ending in this one, which in a way I was pleased about, as no one deserves one. They all deserve to be miserable and waiting for more betrayal.
No romance, pretty average sex scenes (they're just not fun if it's obvious someone is being manipulated and lied to). Avoid!
Wow! I finished this book at the hairdresser, and it wasn't just the heat of the dryer that had me fanning myself… The author gives a clear disclaimer that it contains graphic sex and adult content. It certainly does, but it also contains — at its heart — a love story, or maybe more than one. When we first meet married couple Kari and Noah, everything in the garden seems rosy. But roses have thorns, and soon they are drawn into a web of deceit and destruction. Who exactly is the enigmatic Joe Millar and what is his role in the 'game' the young couple embark upon? Does he deliver only what they expected or are his motives concealed behind a veneer of sophisticated charm? A definite departure from my usual read, although I did thoroughly enjoy the author's The Wife series published a few years ago. This book has the same modus operandi of using repetition to draw in the reader in an almost hypnotic way. Cleverly done and with sufficient teasing (and steaminess) to keep you eagerly turning the pages. When a game is this wicked, can anyone really win?
I don't care what other reviews say... I loved Wicked Game! Yes, Kari could be classified as a "doormat" sometimes but in reality I think anyone would be lost, confused and vulnerable given the situation Noah put her in & through. However, she did eventually take a hard stand for herself. And I'm happy with the way her story ends with Joe. Noah got what he deserved. Him and his decisions are what ultimately lead to the demise of their marriage.
