Saundra’s A Hustler’s Queen is urban fiction at it’s finest. The novel is a genuine page-turner. Each page leaves you anticipating the next.
Precious Cummings is a young woman quietly living in South Central, Los Angeles with her father, Larry. When her father is killed she discovers a disturbing secret that he has kept from her for years. Feeling depressed and lonely after her father’s death, Precious starts dating DaVon, a drug kingpin introduced to her by her friend, Keisha. Precious and DaVon fall in love and are living the high life. Though she has been sheltered, Precious adapts to the dangerous, but lucrative lifestyle. Unfortunately, her happiness is short-lived, and DaVon is killed. Precious no longer knows who she can trust. She is surrounded by her friends, DaVon’s drug-dealing crew and the twin sister who shows up on her doorstep unannounced, but can’t tell friend from foe. Precious is now faced with the option of letting the circumstances get the best of her or rising to the occasion. Having learned the drug game from her deceased lover, Precious puts her knowledge and skills to the test and becomes a drug “queenpin”. Will she be able to outmaneuver her enemies or will she become a victim of the game?
A Hustler’s Queen is very well-written. I appreciated that the characters were fully developed and believable. The unexpected plot twists and gritty dialogue held my interest from start to finish. A Hustler’s Queen has something for everyone: love, lust, lies, romance, revenge, betrayal and plenty of street intrigue. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
