The Assassin Chronicles TV series is in development with Council Tree Productions
Two recent murders. Two serial killers. A conspiracy that reaches beyond the physical world.
Consumed with grief over the tragic death of her husband, FBI agent Victory McClane is obsessed with finding Ohio's serial killer, "The Wrapper".
When another young woman turns up dead and the victim is linked to Derrick Lynn, son of the Secretary of Defense, Victory finds Derrick has all the right answers and is a little too helpful.
Derrick has a secret: He's a government assassin who uses his unusual paranormal skills to eliminate targets. Determined to keep his own secrets buried, he offers to help find The Wrapper.
But can Victory trust him?
As the body count rises, Victory must cross a dangerous line--into a world of government cover-ups, murder, and betrayal--a decision that will test her limits. And everything she believes in.
Deadly Shadow is an action-packed paranormal, supernatural, suspense thriller for mystery and detective fiction lovers!
Kim Cresswell resides in Ontario, Canada, and is the award-winning author of the action-packed Whitney Steel romantic suspense series. As a multi-genre author, her books have been featured online at USA Today, NBC, FOX, Publishers Weekly, Booklife, and ScifiPulse.net. The Assassin Chronicles TV series was in development with Council Tree Productions. The TV series is based on Kim's paranormal suspense thriller, Deadly Shadow, and the highly anticipated sequel, Invisible Truth.
His murders are brutal, horrific, and he is on a killing spree. Victory Lane, FBI agent, is determined to stop this monster before another girl is taken, her life burned away. His MO is vicious and he leaves no trace behind, but Victory may have gotten a lead when The Wrapper’s latest victim is linked to the Secretary of Defense’s son, Derrick.
Derrick Lynn has secrets, and his willingness to aid in finding The Wrapper seems almost too good to be true. Why is he being so helpful? What is he hiding? What does he really know that he isn’t telling?
As Victory struggles with her own demons from the past, she will put the force of all of her pain into preventing another family from the grief of loss. She will discover that it may take a killer to catch a killer.
Meanwhile, buried deep in governmental secrecy, are people capable of feats of the supernatural and Derrick is one of them. To use his powers to find The Wrapper could destroy decades of secrets, exposing the clandestine agency that should only exist in fiction.
As Victory closes in on her prey, in an act of vengeance, The Wrapper will take the only reason Victory’s heart has to beat, her last connection to the man she loved so long ago. Now she must make a deal with Derrick that could threaten her very existence, but does he have enough humanity left in him for full disclosure and complete cooperation? The Wrapper must be stopped, but at what cost? The clock is ticking and Derrick may be holding valuable information back…information that could mean the difference between life and death…
DEADLY SHADOW by Kim Cresswell is dark, edgy, intense and gut-clenching as young women disappear, only to be found tortured and mutilated. NOT for the faint of heart or delicate of constitution, Ms. Cresswell is forceful, blunt and graphic in her details as the atmosphere teeters on the brink of the abyss of Hell and Victory will take all that she has learned, all she is, all that she stands for to save the final victim.
For as intriguing and raw as each page is, nothing, and I mean nothing, prepared me for that sledgehammer ending. Emotions will be electrically charged, feel the hatred, the terror and the determination of one woman to serve justice, one way or another. Just let her be in time.
Brilliant writing, part horror, part thriller, and 100% worth every word read! If you haven't read anything by Kim Cresswell, you haven't really known pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat reading.

This is an original story concept to me. Not entirely new, but definitely not one that I have read/ listened to a lot of. It is a police procedural, that includes people with paranormal abilities.
Victory was a likeable, interesting FBI agent, who is mourning the loss of her husband and has a close relationship with her college aged daughter, and a few colleagues.
Victory is investigating two apparent killers. One is a serial killer who has a cruel and unusual method of killing his victims. The other killer is making kills that appear to be impossible. For me this had so very much potential to be a great story with an epic finish.
I didn't form any strong opinions on the other principal character, Derrick Lynn. He was an interesting character, with a fascinating story-line that was imperative to the story. I just felt that a little more knowledge about him could have made me care either way about his character.
I definitely got the great story but I was left feeling unsatisfied by the way the book finished. (This may be just me, and there are further books to come so there is a good chance that it may improve.)
I would still read/ listen to further books in this series and am interested to see what direction this book series takes.
Robin Siegerman did a good job with the narration, the characters had recognisably different voices and they were maintained throughout. Being completely honest, I feel the book could have benefited from the addition of a male narrator as I did find some of the male voices to be harsh in their tone and not pleasing to the ear.
I look forward to the next instalment in the assassin chronicles series.

I love serial killers books. 2 killers in this book! This book was great! I loved the audio book and it is so great to read while and listen to my book while I workout and many other things. I can't read other books like I can read/listen to audio books. I enjoy that so much because my eyes get tired by the end of the day and still want to read my books so I really enjoy audio books. I really wanted Victory McClane FBI agent to win and catch the killer (but for book purposes slowly) to make a great story and that is what I enjoyed about this book. I loved the trying to guess who the killer or killers are before the author tells us. I was not correct with this book. oh well! Really great job on this book! "This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review."
Reviewed on http://bookaddict.live, Wow this looks like its going to be a great series Victory MacLaine is chasing two serial killers. This starts as a crime who done it, as we follow the Victory and Ryan as they look for clues. Things start to get more exciting, as its starts getting Paranormal. This had all my favorite ingredients serial killers, crime, paranormal and government corruption. This kept me glued my earphones and I can’t wait to get book two. I not saying anymore on the plot. I let you find out for yourself. The narration is excellent, great production, great touches that made it more real.

Audiobook review: Deadly Shadow is a murder mystery with a small side of paranormal suspense. The story has plenty of suspense to hold a wayward attention. This story will pull at your heart strings. The narrator did a good job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
( Format : Audiobook ) "We can't save everyone." FBI Agents Ryan and Victory are called to the scene of an impossible murder: an obnoxious TV personality, nicknamed Big Mouth, was dead, a gunshot through the head, the gun returned to a nearby drawer. But security had been so tight in his mansion, there was no way anyone could have entered or left without tripping alarms. No sign of entry, finger prints or other evidence - the crime was impossible. Yet it had happened. Could this be another killing by the person nicknamed the Shadow? But almost immediately the two FBI officers were called away to an horrendously brutal scene: the badly burned body of a young woman found in a park, victim of the serial killer known as the Wrapper from his habit of winding his victims in bubble wrap. Two murders, two serial killers...
This is a cleverly crafted story which entwines together the progress of both killers, the police teams and, in particular, the emotional life of Agent Victory, a respected and tenaciously brave investigator still suffering guilt pangs and loneliness a year after the death of her husband.. Other protagonists are also well characterized, especially Derrick Lynn, a wealthy fantasy game developer and son of the Secretary of Defense, towards whom Victory feels unexpectedly drawn. Some scenes are uncomfortable in their brutal description of victims and yet there is a feel of reality to the whole story despite the murders, conspiracies and paranormal areas.
The narrator is Robin Siegerman, a woman with a very versatile voice. Pleasant to the ear, she conveys emotion exquisitely, and endows every one of her characters with individual voices. Especially noteworthy is the effect she produces when protagonists are heard talking on the telephone. She reads the text with total understanding and commitment: an excellent performance.
My thanks to the rights holder of Deadly Shadow, the first in a new series, who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. This is a powerful, engrossing story with genuinely surprise moments. Highly recommended to anyone with a penchant for thrillers, murder mysteries and books with strongly developed protagonists. I will personally be looking out for the next book in the series.
I really like FBI Agent Victory McClane. She’s in a tough business and she’s suffered a tragedy or two. Now she’s on the hunt for a serial killer, maybe two. Yet she still has a sense of humor and she’s totally dedicated to her daughter Jade who is off at college. Her work partner, Ryan, is a steady brotherly type who isn’t above teasing her a bit here and there. They make a really good team.
Derrick makes a really great questionable character. He’s not evil but he’s not really on the side of good either. His paranormal abilities were recruited when he was a young man and he’s spent decades serving his country, albeit for this shadowy group that specializes in assassinations and espionage.
Even as Victory and Ryan narrow in on the serial killer ‘The Wrapper’, Derrick finds himself drawn further into Victory’s circle of influence. He has been ordered to keep the government paranormal group a secret, even if that means destroying evidence, compromising people, or worse.
The tension spirals up and up until this crushing wave comes down on Victory. Derrick has to make a tough decision of whether or not to help Victory, which would mean sharing a few of his secrets with her. The last hour of the book is nail biting and a little heart wrenching. Over all, it was a satisfying murder mystery and a pretty good paranormal tale. 4.5/5 stars.
The Narration: Robin Siegerman has the perfect voice for Victory McClane. She sounds like an older, confident, career woman. She also had a decent voice for Ryan, however I did sometimes get his voice confused with Derrick’s voice. Derrick always sounds raspy (which I wasn’t sure was what was intended) and sometimes Ryan’s voice went raspy as well, blurring the distinctions between these two characters. The male voices sometimes needed a bit of masculinity. Several of Siegerman’s voices were a bit cartoony. For instance, Jade (who is in college) sounds like a 12 year old. Angie, who works at the FBI office, sounds like she’s 16. The newsreporter sounds like a Disney witch. Also, Siegerman didn’t always nail the character emotions. McClane sometimes sounds flat even when she’s joking. Angie sounds way too chipper even when she’s handing out condolences. On the other hand, there were no technical issues with this recording. 3.5/5 stars

There were a couple of spots where some editing may have been helpful - I had a hard time initially determining Victory's gender (there were a couple of sentences early on that were unclear).
I also felt that the appearance of Victory's daughter came out of nowhere. I think mentioning her earlier in the novel would have been more effective.
There are a lot of threads in this novel, and the author managed to weave them together deftly. As this is the first novel in a series, I didn't expect all the loose ends to be tied up. I was pleasantly surprised at how many were resolved. There are still some outstanding questions, which I hope will be resolved in later installments!
I am especially pleased with the character of Victory. In the first place, she's 45. She's much more mature than many heroines. She's also a very strong woman who has flaws, but who also has a vulnerable side. It pleases me to no end that her life is very much her own - she's a complete person in and of herself and seems in no rush to fall into a romance. I can very much relate to her.
The paranormal elements are carefully considered story elements. They don't seem to be involved just because something has to happen and there's no other explanation.
This is a very intriguing series.

I can't believe I haven't read anything by Kim Cresswell before. Deadly Shadow is nonstop emotion and action. The FBI is dealing with two serial killers at once. Victory McClane is on both cases at the same time. One is The Shadow and the other The Wrapper (because he wraps his victims in bubble wrap). Poor Victory is still grieving over the loss of her husband and is throwing herself into her work. But two serial killers is a lot for any FBI agent to deal with!
I like the author's writing style, it flows well and is easy to follow. The narrator had good timing and inflection.
The characters are portrayed well. Victoria is a strong woman and is a good FBI agent. I haven't quite decided how much I like her yet. The other agents seem to respect her and care for her. Although Derrick is an assassin for the government and has done his job well for decades, the more I got to know of him, the more I liked him.
I was unable to stop listening to Deadly Shadow once I got into it which was chapter 2.
This is the first Kim Cresswell book I've read, and boy have I ever been missing out! The characters walked off the page and into my mind, what they saw, I saw, what they felt, I felt, and boy did I ever feel it. I grinned, I cried, and I didn't care how many odd looks I got from the other train passengers, I couldn't help myself.
The story is fast moving, there's a lot happening and it weaves an interesting tapestry of events and connections. The paranormal element of the story is well done and not overdone. It left me wanting to know what other abilities are out there.
Loved the narration, the character voices are clear and recognizable and the delivery conveyed the tone and emotions of the different parts of the story.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
Detective Kate Becket meets X-Men. There's a serial killer named "The Wrapper" kidnapping and torturing young women to death on the streets of Ohio. Agent Victory McLane is on the case, while also going after another killer called "The Shadow" due to the ability of not leaving any trace behind on his murders. This Shadow is closer to Victory than she thinks, and may be of great help in finding "The Wrapper".
I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The two parallel cases in the story got me hooked, and the several twists and turns kept my attention. The characters are likable, and they are developed enough to make me care for them.
I like murder mysteries but I don't always enjoy paranormal stories. This was an exception. The paranormal factor in this story added another layer of complexity and interest, and Derek was so charismatic that I couldn't resist his charm. Another thing I liked was that, instead of having your typical young main characters, here Victory and Derek are on his forties, which, I think, makes for a more interesting read for people my age.
Robin Siegerman was the perfect match for this story. Her voice sounds mature, very appropriate for Victory, but she also did great in performing the rest of characters, delivering different voices and using sound effects when on phone calls, so that listening to this audiobook almost felt like watching a movie.
Great story, plot, writing, characters, and narration. What more can anyone as for? I would absolutely recommend it to anyone into murder mysteries, even though they are not into paranormal.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
This was a really great paranormal suspense novel. I got a Criminal Minds vibe from Victory and the two crimes she tries to solve through the novel. Added on top of that were some pretty awesome paranormal abilities.
Victory is a great lead character. She is smart, confident and compassionate. She leads a very difficult life, dealing with loss and grief, on top of two separate and seemingly unsolvable serial killer cases. She is able to compartmentalize all of the stress so that her appearance to the outside world is confident, but she really does take her work home at night.
I liked Derrick enough, but I didn't get a ton of information on his personality. More of his character traits are revealed toward the end of the book, but I guess he was a little difficult to like in the beginning.
The two separate cases, The Shadow and The Wrapper were seamlessly woven together. Given the extreme differences between the two, I enjoyed the fact that I was never confused, and many of the questions I had were answered without any plot holes. There is still enough mystery to make me really excited to read the next book in the series.
Overall, I really enjoyed this read. I enjoyed the main character, the suspense, and the satisfying ending that wasn't left on an infuriating cliff hanger but still was open enough for a ton of material for the next book!
Kim Cresswell pulled me into this book with the first scene. I loved the imagery in this book, especially the paranormal killer. There are so many layers and I loved how things were tied together. Some of the twists I never saw coming, which I love. I thought the performance by Robin Siegerman was great! She added the right emotions and suspense to the story. This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. I would classify this book as murder mystery/thriller with some paranormal aspects. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.
Yes, folks, it has BOTH. Paranormal, and FBI/crime/serial killer thriller all rolled into one. And, it's GOOD!
Great story! I love the idea, and think Kim Cresswell definitely did it justice. Really cool blend of crime thriller & paranormal thriller. Great characters, loved the narration.
I'd welcome listening to more from this pair (author/narrator), and I really enjoyed listening! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This book is one of the best paranormal suspense thrillers I have ever read. Derrick and his abilities... damn! Victory, her career as a FBI agent, and her family... wow! This is probably my shortest review ever, but the take away is... you need to read this book! I can’t say more without giving away some great parts that you will love to discover yourself as you read! I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only. Thank you Kim!!! :) I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to learn what happens next!
My review is based on the Audiobook. WOW What a captivating & thrilling read! This book is filled with dark twists and turns weaving the stories of the Shadow & Wrapper into one seamless tale. I was grabbed from the start and found myself listening whenever possible to find out what happened. The narrator did a great job bringing the story and characters to life. I am completely invested in these characters and can't wait for the next book!
Another amazing book/series by Kim!! I can't wait for the next one! I loved the characters and felt every emotion as I read!! I loved Victory, her story, and could picture everything written!! The suspense of The Elara Project and what it was almost killed me....but it was worth the wait and suspense!! I can't wait to find out what is gonna happen next with Victory, and Derrick!!
I absolutely loved this book! It had me on the edge of my seat! Can't wait to read the next one. If you like Paranormal thriller you need to read this book and series! Great job Ms Kim you never disappoint! I highly recommend this book!
Loved this book! Serial killers, paranormal assassins and a kick ass female FBI agent. Who could ask for more? Thanks to Kim Cresswell and Voracious Readers for the chance to review this book. Looking forward to Victory & Derrick’s next encounter.
This story was outstanding. Be prepared for some wild and dark twist and turns. The ending was stunning and breathtaking. This is one you don't want to miss.
The Story I love a suspenseful paranormal thriller and that is just what Kim Cresswell delivered. Grizzly Murders✔ Serial Killer✔ Female Heroine✔ Fast moving plot✔
The Narration Robin Siegerman did a phenomenal job with the characters in this story. The ending was so intense that I felt the fear, anger, and heartache of Agent Victory McClane. Siegerman nailed it!
Wow...this book is fanfreakintastic!! It leaves you wanting more! Victory...love the name btw...is an FBI agent in OH. She’s dealing with the grief from the recent loss of her husband in a bank robbery...and also trying to catch a killer known as The Wrapper. This killer wraps his victims in bubble wrap and burns them alive. Eesh! The Wrapper has eluded authorities for over 10 yrs. Victory is also hunting down another killer dubbed The Shadow because there’s no evidence of his existence other than his victims. Derek is a paranormal...and he Is The Shadow. He can travel outside of his body to get the job done. By day, he is the owner of a gaming company and son of a senator. By night, he is an assassin for the government. Derek and Victory cross paths when one of his employees is abducted and killed by The Wrapper. Derek is intrigued by the FBI agent and sends flower with a request to take her to dinner. When The Wrapper hits too close to home and Victory needs his powers, will Derek help? No spoilers on how this ends but just know that you will not want to stop listening/put the book down until the end! This author does not disappoint and I can’t wait for the next book!!
Supernatural and thriller is one combination that I absolutely love and that was one of the major reasons why I took up this book. Though this book wasn’t based on as much paranormal as I had expected but still I loved it a lot.
From the very first to the last page this book just captivated me completely…. I wasn’t able to keep this book down till the very last page was reached.
Deadly Shadow was a thrilling experience throughout with murders, secrets, twists and turns, cops and two serial killers. This is a book that you definitely need to grab if you are a crime, mystery or thriller lover. I am eagerly waiting for the next book in the series to know what else this author has in store for us.
This book shows Kim Creswell at her best, as she hits another homerun out of the park with her new series The Assassin Chronicles. I loved this audio, I mean what more could one ask for kick butt take no name FBI agent and widower Victory, government assassin by paranormal powers and in love with aforementioned FBI Agent Derrick, a serial killer "The Wrapper" and much more. There is a ton of action and even more twists and turns and suspense you can cut with a knife, this book has everything. If you happen to get the audio than you will have the treat of listening to Robin Siegerman narrating, and she is good, she sucks you right into the world and you get lost and never look back. These two make a great pair for this series and I hope they stay together.
Victory McClane is deep in the hunt for one serial killer when she inadvertently stumbles upon another, this one with an MO she can't fully comprehend. This story takes off on the first page and never slows down. Cresswell builds sympathy for her heroine while simultaneously creeping readers out with her villains. I read the book in one sitting and can't wait for the next in the series.
A thrilling suspenseful story full of emotion and shocking scenes, Writing is excellent with a fast paced story with a really shocking ending, great strong characters. My only quibble is that the narration whilst mostly great gets a little over the top at the most emotional parts but it is still and excellent novel
Deadly Shadow A Paranormal Suspense Thriller (The Assassin Chronicles, Book 1), my first oh-so-enjoyable read from author Kim Cresswell. Extremely well-written with intriguing characters. 6-hours 11-minute/297-pages. Sometimes a book is just so enjoyable, so spine-tingling, so page-turning, wait no spoilers here, buy the book, read & review the book. I was given an Audible copy of this book back in June of last year & am just getting around to listening to it. I'm voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Robin Siegerman’s narration adds to the book's enjoyment. I can't wait for the next book in the series, I'll definitely be reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I loved the narration of Robin Siegerman, who brings out the characters, suspense and action.
Victory is smart, confident and compassionate. Dealing with loss and grief, and on two separate and seemingly unsolvable serial killer cases. Still able to deal with all the stress and looking confident to any on looker
The two cases, The Shadow and The Wrapper are woven together. Derrick is a government assassin who uses his unusual paranormal skills to eliminate targets. Needing to keep his secrets buried, he offers to help find The Wrapper. Victory has cross into a world of government cover-ups, murder, and betrayal.
