Skillful hands. A talented tongue.
Meet Mr. May.

Fate’s been messing with veteran Tyree Johnson. It took his buddies in combat and his wife in a fatal car accident. But he’ll be damned if he’ll let Fate take his beloved bar, The Fix on Sixth.

For years, he’s avoided being Fate’s whipping boy through sheer force of will, and now every bit of his focus is centered on saving his business. Until, that is, the first woman who ever touched his heart walks back into his life—along with a daughter he never knew.

After years of loneliness, Tyree’s not prepared for the way Eva’s sensual curves and sharp wit still capture his heart and rekindle his senses. All he knows is that for the first time in forever, he’s found a passion other than his bar. But one final twist arrives when Fate pits the bar he can’t bear to lose against the woman who’s stolen his heart.

He’s a master at red-hot ecstasy.

First thoughts after reading.

Oh how I wanted to love this book, hell how I wanted to even like this book but NOPE it just didn’t work for me. At. All. Rounded up to 3 stars.

The Characters.

Tyree Johnson is fighting for his dream the fix on sixth to succeed against chain clubs/pubs. So far so good. I couldn’t wait for Tyree to get his book. He is sweet and yet tough and his pain runs deep. Maybe too deep. The whole dead wife trope was laid on thick to the point that I never thought Tyree could get over it. I still don’t believe it if I’m being honest.

Eva Anderson get pregnant young but never regretted it. What she regretted was marrying a man she didn’t love. And finding out that her daughter’s father Elena, Tyree didn’t actually die in combat. Elena flies to Austin to meet her father, Eva flies also to save her from heartbreak.

Got to say I didn’t really care for the main characters here they could have been replaced with any Tom, Dick and Henrietta. It wouldn’t have made any difference.

The Chemistry.

They get reacquainted and the chemistry is still there but Tyree feels as if he is cheating on his wife who passed away a long time ago. Eva never wanted to replace her there was room for two but he can’t seem to deal with it.

The Writing & Plot.

Whereas the author can write it all felt so lackluster, so meh. The whole plot was missing something. That special something to make it like the other books. Now, this could just me but they had no sex oh they tried. Maybe that was what was missing. People over 40 also have sex you know Ms. Kenner? Just sayin’.

The Verdict.

The ending was rushed. I couldn’t really believe that he got over the whole issue. He still had his wedding ring on when he meet Eva for me it would have been important that I would have seen him take the ring off to really move on.

Not all books can be a winner.

Whew! Tyree and Eva's story was much more emotional than I was expecting. Now since this is a running series I would normally recap the beginning so you know what this series is all about but I actually think this one could easily be read as a standalone. So saying that, I'll just do a short recap.

Tyree is the owner of the bar called The Fix on Sixth. His bar is hosting a man of the month calendar event to help bring in new business to his and his partners establishment. Each book in the series represents the man of that month and this one is Tyree's.

Tyree is a widower with a 16 year old son. Long before he married his wife, he had a first love. He believes she ghosted on him while he was on active duty.

Eva has always loved Tyree and when she thought he was gone to her, she gave into her fathers pressuring to marry the man he wanted her too to give her daughter a father.

Elana, Tyree and Eva's daughter is now 24 years old and she has just learned her father is alive. There is no stopping her from finding him and possibly reuniting him with her mom.

I love Tyree and Eva's story. I love the way they reconnected and how flawlessly both families blended. The only thing standing in there way is Tyree's love of his deceased wife and his inability to know how to move on. This had such a great message and I truly enjoyed their beautiful story.

Get It On is book five in this series, but can be read as a standalone. Each book is about a particular couple, but if you want to get the whole feeling and follow the underlying story (saving The Fix on Sixth), then read them in order.

Get It on is Tyree's book. He's the owner of Fix on Sixth and is now relying on his friends and community to save the bar. As a man who's been fate's punching bag, dealing with the loss of something is nothing to Tyree. However, he's not about to let this one go without a fight and he is putting his all into saving his bar. Then in walks Eva and his focus becomes shifted.

Eva and Tyree's story could so easily have been one of those perfect slow burns, but alas, that was not the case with this one (in part because it's told as part of short novella series). It was still enjoyable, but I just felt things were too rushed at times.

Julie, as always, writes amazing third person POV's stories - she is one of the few authors that I do read who write in 3rd person. It's extremely hard to right characters in 3rd person POV and allow the reader to still connect to the characters and the story but Julie does it flawlessly.

Eva had always thought that Tyree died in war and when these two are face to face again, the chemistry has changed on bit. But it's Tyree's war between his head and heart that cause a lot of problems in the moving forward. This is where I wished we had more to the story and the results played out in a slower motion - I just felt things were wrapped up to quickly and perfectly. As much as he was confused on things, he was able to sort them all out quickly with no problems.

Overall, it's not my favorite in the series, but it was still a good read.

Get It On is the fifth book in J. Kenner’s Man of the Month series, and it’s another winner. I’ve been a fan of this series since book one, yet each additional book sucks me in ever deeper. I find myself desperately awaiting the release of the next book, counting down the days until it appears on my Kindle. Each time a new one appears, I devour it, starting the cycle all over again. They’re the perfect books to binge read, and I’m almost annoyed with myself for deciding to read them as they’re released as it is forcing a wait upon myself when all I want to do is consume them all at once.

The Man of the Month series is a collection of interconnected romance stories, proving individual stories as a larger story plays out. Each novel features a favourite romance trope, ensuring there is something for everyone. The first book, Down on Me, provided us with the friends-to-lovers trope; the second book, Hold on Tight, provided us with the second chance romance; the third book, Need You Now, provided us with the brother’s best friend trope; the fourth book, Start Me Up, provided us with the one-night stand. This book combines two tropes – one we have seen before, and one we have yet to see in the series. It is another second chance romance – but, more importantly for those looking for something different, it is the secret baby trope. Well, that’s if you can call a grown child a baby – it’s more of a secret child story, but you know what I mean.

Although each book is an individual story with a start and an end, I would recommend reading these books in order. To understand some of the details of the story in full, you need to understand how things came to be throughout the prior books. You’re certainly told, to ensure you have the basic facts to understand the story, but it is not the same as experiencing all that happened – for a bigger picture, read the series in order. With our main character in this one being central to the overall story, I believe it is especially true for this book. Not necessary, but recommended. It gives you a better insight into some of the events that play out in this one, along with giving you more insight into the past events, and it prepares you for what is to come in the future books. Sure, you’re can pick and choose with these books – but to get the best experience I beg you read them in order, especially if you want the full impact of each story.

As with the prior books in the series, you go in with certain expectations – you have an idea of how the trope plays out and you know who is to be the next man of the month – yet it is the smaller details that keep you hooked throughout the stories. You want to see how the tiny things will come together, you want to see what small unique elements will appear, and you want to see how the story will play out for these characters. After growing so attached to our male lead in the previous books, this was especially true for Get It On. With all the feel-good elements of this book, I couldn’t help but adore the story that played out for a character I enjoy so much.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not my favourite in the series. In some ways I had expected a wee bit more from this one, but it was an enjoyable story for the character. There was history and emotion, and although it had a bit of a different feel about it to the prior books, I did enjoy how things came together. In truth, I was so invested in our male lead already, things could have gone drastically wrong with this book – had I not been happy with his story, I would have been extremely annoyed. Fortunately, I was perfectly content with how the story played out.

There is no doubt this is another wonderful addition to the series, and that I’m about to return to the waiting part of the cycle when it comes to this series. I may not have much invested in the characters of In Your Eyes, but I’m positive I’m going to have a lot of fun with it.

Let the obsession continue.

Yeah, yeah, I know I keep saying the latest release in the Man of the Month series is my new favorite. But, seriously, I mean it this time . . . well, at least until Mr. June is released . . . *wink*

Okay . . . back to my latest man crush, one Tyree Johnson. He’s been very busy the past several years raising his son after the death of his beloved wife and running his bar, The Fix on Sixth. Now with the bar running smoothly, and all the exciting things happening, Tyree’s found himself in a bit of a conundrum . . . he’s able to step back and breathe a little. And open his eyes to the possibilities around him—and low and behold, his eyes are wide open when he discovers the daughter he never knew existed.

But while Tyree is thrilled to meet his daughter, he’s also thrilled that her mother is back in his life too. But while Tyree’s brain and err . . . other parts of him are excited about the possibilities, it’s his heart he’s worried about. He loved his wife fiercely, and is he ready to move on and allow another woman into his life and into his heart too.

Oh Tyree. I love you, man. I love how you love. I love how you want to love again. I love how hard you try. And I love how you work your way through. And I love you with Eva. And I love how you get a second chance to love again.

Get It On just worked for me. It hit all my sweet spots: second-chance romance, secret baby . . . yes, it’s a quick read. Yes, it’s an insta-rekindled love. Yes, it’s an HEA. And, yes, I’ll read more and more of this awesome series. ~ Missy, 4.5 stars

Welcome to M. May, Tyree Johnson, co-owner of The Fix, the bar who seemed to have some magic ways for matchmaking. Love is in the air…

Tyree was going to meet a ghost from his past, Eva who suddenly came back into his life, when he was still struggling to move on his wife’s death and torn about his feelings for his first love.

It was a sexy and sensual bite. I enjoyed each man of the month’s story. That one was emotional for some parts for sure but I might have a thing for Tyree, sensitive, caring, protective and terribly sensual. Just a lethal combination.

I might have a weakness for men’s who weren’t afraid to show their true colors, and I liked Tyree from the beginning, watching from afar his friends getting hitched, falling in love, protective about them, making a better life for his son, but terribly lonely and a bit lost without his wife. If you wanted some sexual healing, you’d got it, insanely sexy and hot with a hint of sweetness and swoon-worthy moments.

I guess the length of the book suits, sharing the stories about one man and his match, with into the background the contest of the man of the month, bringing all the heat but also so much love, something not too long or too short.

I liked how the group of friends was growing in each novel, bringing new friends along the way. Especially I appreciated how the author could introduce the next characters, just by a little glimpse, just enough to keep you intrigued.

Get It On by J. Kenner is the fifth book in the series of Man of the Month and I must say this story was just okay. I liked Tyree but I couldn’t connect with Eva or Elena at all. They were just characters that I didn’t care for and I was more interested in Tyree and his deceased wife story than the reemergence of his first love, Eva. If you like second chance romance then this book might be for you. I like the story but didn’t love it since I enjoyed more reading about Tyree and his son Eli than Tyree’s relationship with Eva.

Tyree … wow … what a story! Strong, silent, in control and alone. By choice, of course. He can't let go of his love for his precious Teiko. He doesn't feel like he could ever move on from the woman that saved him. His life, even with her gone, revolves around her and their dreams.

Eva just found out the truth. Now, she has to face the consequences. She has to face Tyree after all these years. She has to hide the love she never lost for him. It's hard telling him the truth, seeing how much in love he is with his deceased wife and knowing, because of a lie, he didn't have the chance to watch his daughter grow up.

Fate works in mysterious ways and, maybe it's time for the past to be both put to rest and resurrected. Another chance at life, at love … for both of them. But, decisions that affect a lot of people and sacrifices that could shatter or shape the future, have to be made.

Oh, yea, there was a Man of the Month contest at The Fix On Sixth. But, it was totally secondary to this beautiful story about second chance love. I was so moved by this story, by the way Tyree's feelings were portrayed and the love that he had for two woman. And, Eli … wonderful, insightful Eli. The heart and soul of this story that made his father see that he would never disrespect Tieko, that she wouldn't want him living like a martyr, that she would want him to grab and never let go of the love he has for Eva.

I can't believe, in the middle of this series that has been so light hearted and fun, that such a serious, beautiful story would be written. J. Kenner out did herself with Get It On and I'm not sure if she will be able to top it. I thought I loved all the books leading up to Get It On but they pale in comparison. I was enthralled from beginning to end.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book, given by the author.
https://thesecretworldofbooklovers.bl...
This was a different type of story, as we knew it would be, Tyree has always been reserved about his love life.
We know he lost his loving wife years ago and he hasn't been able to move forward. He is living for his son and his happiness has taken a back seat because there is no way he could love someone new as much as he loved his wife.

But what if she isn't new?

Meet Eva, she was Tyree's secret, his first true love and now she is back in the picture with a couple of revealed truths and secrets that could change everything.
She has never stopped loving him, she was tricked and thought he was gone; as was he, who wrongly understood she had moved on, so life went on.

Now they are trapped by their daughter and realize that spending time together is not such a bad idea after all. The love that was once there, still is. But life has happened while they were separated, and Tyree has so much guilt that he is not able to move forward.

I can't understand how hard it could be to let go of that last piece you shared with the person you loved that is now gone. We are all rooting for Eva and Tyree, but his is a hard choice and he will need a lot of thinking and strength to finally let his past be a memory and focus on the future.

A beautiful story about the strength of love. As a romantic I can only hope that even when you meet someone and the circumstances are not ideal or in your favor; there will be a time in the future where your paths will cross again and the love that once was there can be awaken like a flame that's been burning low, dormant and now it will burn stronger than it had before.

Knowing how it feels to truly loose that person and having a second chance will make you risk everything to keep them by your side forever.

The fifth book in the Man of The Month series features Tyree who is also the owner of the fix on sixth which happens to be the bar that this series is centered around.

At the end of Book 2 we got to see that Elena shows up at the bar claiming to be Tyree’s daughter and that had me definitely interested in seeing what would happen next.

The beginning starts of exciting as it recalls that moment again but this time we also get to meet Elena, Eva’s Mom and Tyree’s first love. I do love a bit of drama and this book definitely has some of it.

This story unfolds and we find out what happened to these two in the past and see some feelings come back to life.

For me this was just an ok read as I had trouble connecting to the Tyree and Elena. For me I felt something missing and that their past and their current issues were too easily overcome. Again this is a shorter read then your average book but I still wanted some depth to this story.

I will still continue to read this series but this one just fell a bit short for me.

A second chance romance so heartrending with all the things that went wrong for this lovely couple, Get It On was an emotional roller coaster that had me misty-eyed from the start. But I wouldn’t have expected anything less from J. Kenner.

I have to give J. Kenner credit for how she has positioned each story in this series. The books have all flowed from one into the next pretty seamlessly, and even though they are a little on the shorter side–around two-hundred-fifty pages each–they are packed with emotion. Things happen quickly, so I think some readers may feel like there isn’t as much development of the characters or situations as we’d normally see. But most of the cast has been introduced early on in this series, if not in previous other series from Kenner. Read More

Since being introduced to The Fix on Sixth and how the previous characters in the series have stepped up to help its owner, Tyree Johnson, save the infamous bar, I’ve wanted to hear his story and understand how he got into the position that he’s in and what his plans are to not only save his business, but also to perhaps end his years of loneliness because it seems he’s been Fate’s ‘bitch’ for quite some time and given the fickle nature of what presides over people’s lives, it’s about time Tyree makes some moves on his own and puts an end to the devastating journey he’s been on for much longer than he deserves.

Get It On, like its predecessors in the series, is a quick, steamy, and entertaining story that speeds up and heats up the hero and heroine’s feelings and chemistry. But where Tyree and Eva’s story differs is in the fact that these two have an emotional history, and with Eva’s reappearance in his life, he learns even more about what he’s been missing out on all these years and what he needs to do to not only save his bar but also his relationship with a woman who meant everything to him in the past and now means even more in the present because she helps end Fate’s reign on Tyree’s life.

J. Kenner does a good job at exploring Tyree and Eva’s past and the reasons that Eva was not forthcoming with important information that Tyree deserved to know. But while those details help readers understand everything that happened between them, I still didn’t feel like the main characters evolved enough as their story continued and I wanted that insight…I needed to put all the puzzle pieces together and then witness this second chance at love and at life blossom into something lasting. But I do have to say that I’m more than aware of what this series is meant to be and while I did want a bit more development, I still enjoyed Tyree and Eva’s reunion and the fact that Tyree finally had a chance to show Fate who’s boss!

Tyree, Mr. May, may not have wanted to be part of the bar’s calendar, but if readers have learned anything from the previous books, it’s clear that it’s not too difficult to wrangle these men into posing for the camera.

Tyree Johnson owner of The Fix or part owner now, partnering with friends and coworkers Jenna Montgomery,Reece Walker and Brent Sinclair.
With their help and partnership he was hoping to get the bar back in the black.Helping out big time is The Man Of the Month Calendar and the Renovation show it was bringing in more customers and more income. This was his and his wife Teikos dream. A dream she didn't live to see. Tyree wanted to keep it alive and thriving. He worked hard on the bar menus and drinks, but the other bars with their cheap drinks was making it tough.

Strolling through the bar to great his regulars he sees something that shakes him to the core. But it couldn't be her Eva from his past the woman he loved and lost.Turning back to look again she was gone,Tyree shook it off and returned to work.

Eva Anderson was a successful photographer and she loved her job weddings and babies were her favorite to shoot. When her mind wasn't kept busy it would drift to the past,a past that had recently come back to haunt her. The death of her father and the clean out of his belongings she comes across a letter he had wrote. The letter tell's her of his lies ,that the man she loved the father of her child never died like he told her forcing her to marry not for love but for security. Her daughter Elena and her best friend Maryanne push her to face the past and tell Tyree he has a daughter. While she drags out the inevitable ,Elena takes of to Austin to meet her dad, when Eva finds out she is worried that her daughter get her feelings hurt. So she packs and takes off to Austin hoping she get there before things go bad.

The man behind The Fix takes to the stage in Get It On the fifth installment of J Kenner's Man of the Month series.

Tyree has had two great loves in his life; his first love, Eva with whom he had a passionate, intense fling with before being deployed and his late wife, Teiko. As much as he loved Eva fate and the intervention of a significant person in Eva's life ensured Tyree and Eva's lives went in different directions. Although it did lead him to Teiko and without whom he would not have had his son or made his dream of a bar into reality.

Tyree has struggled since Teiko's death, clinging desperately to her memory and not allowing himself to experience physical or emotional intimacy, his life has become a very lonely place apart from his son and beloved bar. That is until his past walks into the bar and shakes his world upside down.

I loved the way Tyree was so accepting of the fact he has a daughter and how seamlessly Elena fit into his life and created a family. As the revelations regarding the time apart and the scheming behind it are divulged understanding and a renewed sense of connection between Tyree and Eva develops.

All the puzzle pieces fit into place allowing the possibility of a second-chance for Tyree and Eva if only Tyree would allow himself that happiness. Eva is extremely empathetic and understanding especially as she has to share the man she loves with a ghost, however, she does deserves to be loved equally and not as a consolation prize.

Watching Tyree work through his issues was an emotional experience and one I am not sure I would be able to cope with if I was in Eva's position.

Get It On shows it's never too late for love and second-chances need to be grasped with both hands.

GET IT ON by J. Kenner is book Five in the "Man of the Month" series. This is the story of Tyree Johnson and Eva Anderson. Tyree Johnson is fighting for his dream the fix on sixth to succeed against chain pubs/clubs. He's the owner of Fix on Sixth and is now relying on his friends and community to save the bar. Eva and Tyree have a past. And a daughter. One that Tyree didn’t know about. In the story, you find out very quickly why Tyree didn’t know about his child and it justifies the reason why Eva didn’t tell. Since this is a shorter story in this series, the author didn't write as many pages to tell a story that had that as a conflict as well as the resolution. I will be honest, this story didn’t connect with me as previous stories in the series did. For some reason, Tyree did better as a secondary character than as a main character. And Eva , while I liked her and understood why she held on to her secret as she did, felt like the character came off as one dimensional. The only conflict really seemed to be the baby story and I would have liked to see more angst put into the story to make it more rounded. Otherwise, the chemistry is there between the main characters. I am hopeful there will be a little more of his and Eva's story as the stories resolve and the series ends. Get It On is a quick, fun, sexy read in the Man of the Month series and can be read as a standalone.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fifth book in the series - and I would definitely recommend that you read them in order, as they follow on naturally from each other, and there are many threads running through the ongoing plot.

Tyree was definitely a man we expected to find a new love - but little could we have expected such a moving and complicated story. It was a really beautiful second chance romance, with some lovely touches of humour from Elena and Eli in particular. I found the actions of Eva's father sadly believable. For Tyree it was bittersweet, given he had found love again even if it was cruelly cut short. I think that his confusion, anger and distress at how he reacted to his renewed feelings for Eva were very sympathetically written. His immediate acceptance and love for his newly found daughter gave the measure of the man.

The bar business is also moving along, and the fact that the local competition are playing dirty, probably indicates that they are concerned about its increasing success. Loved the winner for May!

The epilogue sets up the next book, and should be another fun installment.

***ARC Provided by the Author and Social Butterfly PR***

The Man of the Month books by J. Kenner are shorter and are focused on the people who call The Fix on Sixth their home away from home, their bar, and their job.

Tyree owns the bar, and he has been a central character in each of the titles for the books as he is the one who got the bar into the financial mess that required the Man of the Month competition in the first place.

Eva and Tyree have a past. And a daughter. That he didn't know about. You find out, quickly, that there is a reason Eva didn't tell Tyree about his daughter, and it justifies that she didn't. While I am not sure I totally believed it, I was willing to suspend disbelief as this is a shorter story and the author didn't have the words to tell a story that had that as a conflict as well as the resolution.

I did enjoy this title overall, although I think I wanted a little more development with the characters. While these are shorter stories, I think his story, as it is so central, was one I wanted more of, and I was left feeling like I wanted more.

I do still recommend it, as Tyree is an important part of The Fix on Sixth and the Man of the Month series. I did enjoy it, and I am hopeful there will be a little more of his and Eva's story as the stories resolve and the series ends.

**Audible review**

Now I am not sure if it is because I read these out of order (no idea how I went from book 2 to book 5), however Tyree's story was the one I wanted to know about, however for me it just lacked something.

I didn't really connect with any of the characters. I could understand Tyree's hesitance getting back together with the one that got away, however I just didn't get the stuff with Eva and Elena.

I wanted more emotions, I wanted snark, I wanted yelling matches, I just wanted more feeling from everyone. However this could just be me.

The narration for this book was much better to me than for book 2 - I had a terrible time with the accents in book 2.

I will be going back and reading books 3 and 4 to catch up on everything.I have missed, and look forward to Noah Michael Levine's narrations.

Tyree is the sexy and seriously built owner of the bar that everyone is trying to save. While profits are up and his son has a good head on his shoulders for being sixteen, Tyree is still unable to be truly happy or move on from losing his wife. And then his world is sent spinning when his first love shows up out of the blue. Eva has created a thriving photography business and she's found an inner strength she didn't know she had. Seeing each other again brings back all the feelings they thought they moved past and their chemistry is as strong as ever. J. Kenner continues to create fun, new characters that add to the family atmosphere of the bar. Get It On is funny, entertaining, and sexy with just enough conflict.

Tyree is the owner of The Fix, and is shocked to say the least when a young woman walks into his bar claiming to be his daughter. Her mother, Eva, is the one who got away. Eva had no idea that Tyree was alive and their daughter took matters into her own hands and traveled to see Tyree before she got the chance to.

Tyree and Eva have a second chance at love after years apart and I enjoyed the story. It was nice to finally get the story of the owner of The Fix. It definitely had a sad element to it but it was a good read.

Get It On is another fun, quick read in the Man of the Month series. Even though it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.

I was really excited to read Tyree’s story... and it just didn’t do it for me. Where was the interaction with him and the bar staff? Where was his POV on the bar and the reason for his contest?

When a blast from his past comes back into his life, he is all confused (for about half a chapter) then he’s pretty much fine except that he can’t get over the fact that moving on feels like he is disrespecting his late wife. Fair enough but it seemed like it was missing something. Yes, there isn’t the same passion or humour as the first few books have had - but I was waiting for more drama or something less cookie-cutter to happen.

Still, Tyree is one of the faves from this series and Book 5 is just as sweet a read as the rest of them!

Get It On is the 5th Man of the Month novel and this is Tyree's story. This second chance novel was a sweet though at times sad story. The story follows Tryee and Eva rekindling their relationship after all the years with Tyree feeling guilty in the process.
We are also introduced to Elena, Tryee's daughter he never knew he had with Eva. I have to admit I really like Elena and Eli.
The story had its fun moments and it sobering ones. It was a good continuation to the series. As expected the epilogue sets us up for the next story in the series. This was a good read.
*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.*

Tyree and Eva were great together, but Tyree kept sabotaging himself and the relationship they were building. This one was a bit more emotional due to the past of Tyree but it wasn't any less sexy. Another Man of the Month hit!

Overall: 3.50/5 Stars
Naughty Factor: 2/5
POV: Dual/3rd person

This story was short and sweet. Great for when you want something quick and light- like a romance snack. I did expect a bit more from the story; however it all played out well for the characters.

GET IT ON by J. Kenner is book Five in the "Man of the Month" series. This is the story of Tyree Johnson and Eva Anderson. I have read the other books in the series but feel this is easily a standalone book.
Tyree is working to keep his bar, The Fix on Sixth going. Tyree felt the bar and his friends were the only thing he had after the lost of his family. But then he meets Eva again...someone from his past and learns that he has more than just the bar.
Enjoyed reading their story!

Get It On by J. Kenner is the fifth book in her new 12 book Man of the Month series. Told in dual POV this is where the owner of The Fix himself, Tyree, comes face to face with a past love and learns to open his heart again, not just with Eva but with their grown daughter that he only just found out existed.

Tyree is blindsided by the knowledge that he has a daughter with Eva - the woman who broke his heart before he met his wife. With Teiko gone the past few years he has never really moved past losing her and he and his son, Elijah, have grown closer and gone through so much together since her death. Learning about his daughter, Elena, was a shock, but a pleasant surprise. Seeing Eva after all these years, however, left him speechless.

Eva thought she had lost Tyree all those years ago and now that she knows the truth about the situation she is hesitant to make a move. Good thing for her and Tyree that their daughter, Elena, doesn't mind putting wither of them in the hot seat at all. Showing up in Austin felt like a mistake until it didn't and now she is willing to give his thing with them a chance. But is Tyree ready?

Well-written and well-paced, this was another great read and I'm excited with how each of the upcoming characters are gently weaved into the plots in earlier stories without being obtrusive to the current story. Enjoy!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 13, 2018

Who’s Your Man of the Month?

When a group of fiercely determined friends realize their beloved hang-out is in danger of closing, they take matters into their own hands to bring back customers lost to a competing bar. Fighting fire with a heat of their own, they double down with the broad shoulders, six-pack abs, and bare chests of dozens of hot, local guys who they cajole, prod, and coerce into auditioning for a Man of the Month calendar.

But it’s not just the fate of the bar that’s at stake. Because as things heat up, each of the men meets his match in this sexy, flirty, and compelling binge-read romance series of twelve novels releasing every other week from New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: GET IT ON is the fifth instalment in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult MAN OF THE MONTH erotic, romance novella series focusing on a fund raiser for the popular Austin, Texas bar known as The Fix. This is bar owner and widower Tyree Johnson, and photographer Eva Anderson’s story line. GET IT ON can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary, although I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion.

SOME BACKGROUND: The Fix on Sixth, a local Austin hangout and bar, is in desperate need of renovations and a quick influx of cash so a plan is put into motion, by a group of regulars, a plan that includes a Man of the Month calendar competition, and a reality show aimed at rehabbing the bar.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Eva and Tyree) GET IT ON follows the rebuilding relationship between bar owner Tyree Johnson, and Eva Anderson. Approximately twenty four years earlier Eva and Tyree fell in love with one another but duty called, and Tyree headed to war. Shortly thereafter, Eva learned that she was pregnant and her father let her believe that Tyree had died. Fast forward to present day wherein Elena Anderson will come looking for her father- a man she never knew existed-but the man her mother has never stopped loving. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Tyree and Eva as Elena puts into motion a plan to push her parents together, and the fall-out as Tyree is unable to let go of the past, and struggles with the guilt and death of the wife he still loves.

Eva Anderson had no idea that Tyree Johnson was still alive. Her father, a trusted military contractor, led our heroine to believe that the man that she loved had died in combat. Pregnant and alone, Eva married a man she did not love only to find herself divorced five years later. Tyree Johnson was devastated upon his return from war to find the woman he loved happily married with a daughter. Angry and grieving Tyree would quickly meet Teiko, a young waitress, who would heal his heart and give him a son.

The relationship between Eva and Tyree is one of second chances; a rekindling romance that struggles with Tyree’s guilt about the death of his beloved wife, a death he has yet to reconcile affecting his future with the woman from his past. The $ex scenes are limited as Tyree battles between his head and his heart.

GET IT ON is a bit of a departure from the previous instalments in that the romance struggles (in many aspects) with our hero’s inability to move forward. Teiko’s ghost is a constant presence in their rekindling relationship; Tyree believes to fall in love with Eva will dishonor the memories of the wife he still loves. The premise is sweet and touching; the romance struggles with ghosts from the past; the characters are real and honest.

A sweet and beautifully written contemporary romance...

First off, I need to say that I have loved every single book in the Man of the Month series so far. I was really looking forward to Tyree's story and to seeing more of his son Elijah. I liked the little peek we had at their relationship in Down On Me, book #1. Personally I feel like this story didn't quite do it for me. The writing was brilliant as always, but in terms of the exacting and passionate follow through there was just something missing. At first I thought it was just my expectations, but after a second read I realised that considering the whole series so far has had an erotic element to it Get It On lacked on that front. I mean, it was kind of there but but just as the thread was about to go through the eye of the needle it got jolted and missed the target. I don't believe that a story needs sex in order to be great, or even good, but in this case because of how the others in the series used the sexual chemistry element to build on the physical attraction and pull between the characters I felt like it was needed. Older people have sex. It's life.

As far as the plot goes I thought it was good, but again there was always that hold back—mainly due to Tyree's reluctance to move on. At times it felt awkward because he is still so clearly in love with his deceased wife, and in those moments I actually feel that you understand the lack of physical involvement. However, this is a romance and for someone that wants to start something with Eva, his first sweetheart, I feel that he is actually not ready to get it on (pun intended). He feels somewhat emotionally unavailable when it comes to getting himself back out there and starting a relationship with another woman. So, personally this  rendered the romance somewhat lack lustre for me. I liked that the save the bar plot weaved flawlessly through the "romance", in fact it seems that if anything Julie has proved that her writing  is exceptional.

As for the characters, they just didn't do it for me. Like I said before Tyree didn't seem ready to let go of the past and move forwards. I thought he dealt brilliantly with Elena, the daughter he never knew he had. In all honesty, it was satisfying that that whole thing didn't get blown up to epic proportions. I wished we saw a lot more of Elijah and got a better inkling as to how he felt about his half-sister. In some ways for me the lack of Tyree and Eva's intimacy could have been eclipsed by a deeper insight into the kids relationship. Eva was very sweet and soft. I wanted her to have more grit and more pushing power so that there was umph in terms of her making Tyree realise that the guilt he was feeling, although normal, was unfounded. I sound heartless, but the guilt was just too much for me. It was a constant throughout the story and it actually got in the way of getting to know Tyree better. I don't feel like I know the real man beneath all the scars and hurt. I didn't see much more to him than the small nibbles we've had in the other books.

I feel like Get It On is a dip in the series, however, I feel like it will suit a more reserved reader that doesn't particularly care for the erotic element in the other books. The story itself is sweet and beautifully written and I would still say this book's worth a read. It's short and it is enjoyable, even if not memorable. The ending felt a little fast and sudden and there wasn't a sense of closure on the grief or really the guilt front. Would I read this book again? No, I wouldn't. But if you're going to get the most out of the series I'd recommend you read it since there is development on the bar plot side of things and that story was very well executed.

All in all, despite my belligerence, it wasn't a bad read. It is one of those that may not hit the spot for everyone but the majority will love. It's on the shorter side, so you don't have anything to lose by going into this book. I'd also say that if you have read the books leading up to it don't go in with sky high expectations. I feel like that was part of the problem for me. I also cannot wait for the next book in the series, In Your Eyes, so I can't have disliked Get It On that much. If it had been all that bad, I can guarantee that I would not be waiting for book #6 on tenterhooks like I am.
