Cynthia Hobbs is in trouble. Considered spoiled and vain by the townsfolk of Brimstone, she’s hiding a secret—a sister who needs constant care. When her father informs Cynthia that she has to marry the slimy vice president of the bank—and her sister is part of the deal—Cynthia grows desperate. The only person who’ll help her get enough money to escape town with her sister is the madam of the Jeweled Ladies—who recommends Cynthia sell her virginity to the highest bidder.
One night will solve her problems—if she can go through with it.
Cam Douglas wants to go straight—there’s a horse ranch waiting for him. But he needs cash, so he takes one last job—this time, robbing the bank in Brimstone. He visits the Jeweled Ladies for an alibi but somehow winds up buying a virgin at an auction, which is a great alibi. He has no intention of forcing the girl, but when Miss Diamond insists on being deflowered, he’s far too much of a gentleman to say no to a lady.
Cynthia never dreamed she’d enjoy this night, but Cam is a rogue with a heart of gold. He gives her a night of steamy memories and then they part ways. But as she and her sister make their escape from Brimstone under cover of darkness, a rider takes them by surprise. It’s Cam, with a gunshot in his shoulder and a posse on his tail. If she protects him, they all might be caught. But she likes him, much more than she should. Can she risk her heart—and her sister’s safety—for a rogue?

His Diamond by Maggie Chase is the fifth book in her sexy wild west series The Jeweled Ladies. Historical romances set in the American West are not ones I usually read (and are definitely less common that British set ones) but I liked the plot idea of this one and since the whole series is set up as standalone romances I decided to take a chance on it.
Cynthia Hobbs has a dilemma. Her father, who owns the bank in Brimstone is planning to marry her off to his lecherous vice president. Not only is she not on board with this plan, she worries about being able to protect her disabled sister whom she cares for. Since her virginity is really what’s at stake here, she decides to take matters into her own hands and auction herself off for one night at the local brothel. She’ll get half the proceeds from the auction, get rid of her virginity to make her a ‘ruined’ woman no longer of interest to her proposed fiance and be able to take off with her sister for a better life.
Cam Douglas is an outlaw with a plan to go straight, wanting to start a horse ranch after his last heist. He’s got plans to hold up the bank in Brimstone as his last job. But he needs an alibi for the night and plans to make an appearance at the local brothel as cover. Lo and behold, the woman who caught his eye on the street is there, and auctioning off her virginity! Cam makes a swift decision to participate and is the ‘winner’. Knowing Cynthia is a virgin, he treats her carefully, introducing her to a passion she never expected to experience. The next morning, Cynthia enacts her plan and leaves town – but Cam isn’t far behind. Can this unlikely couple make a real future together?
Yeehaw, what a fun and sexy ride! This is an easy read with a basic plot, and a fun and entertaining story. Because Cam is no innocent, it should be noted that he imbibes in some sexual release at the brothel with the madam there before anything happens with him and Cynthia (other than having met on the street) but once they are together there is no other woman in his life. I loved that Cam understands Cynthia’s predicament and treats her with care. She’s quite happy to give her virginity to him and they share a very sexy night together. It’s the tie that holds them together later on as Cam’s bank heist comes into play and they both have to make some decisions about the future. If you want a lighthearted steamy look at the wild west, you should give this series a try.
This is a steamy novella in The Jeweled Ladies series. We've seen Cynthia before, but only as the snooty banker's daughter who was too proper to speak to any of the Jeweled Ladies on the streets of Brimstone. Now that she's desperate to get out of town, she goes to Lady Ruby, the madam of the Jeweled Ladies brothel, for help. She's got a wild plan, but it seems to be the only way to get enough money to help her escape.
After a chance meeting on the street, Cam admires Cynthia's figure and her determination. He doesn't know who she is, but it's clear she's facing something unpleasant with bravery and grace. Cam is only in town to rob the bank, but he figures if he and his partner Hatfield spend the evening at the Jeweled Ladies, it will make a great alibi. What's an outlaw with a heart of gold supposed to do when a nervous, beautiful virgin is put up for auction?
This spicy story is set in the wild west, and it highlights the fact that the whores are not the worst people in town. I loved the interaction between Cam and Cynthia. I also liked that Cynthia took charge of the situation and figured out a way to escape. I'm hoping to get more of what was going on at the same time in Hatfield's story.
This book is amazing. Cynthia shows so much courage and grit to protect her sister and is willing to take a chance to save both their lives. Definite must read
