To some, the risks seem unnecessary, but to Kira that risk goes hand in hand with being an elite military pilot.
She has no way of knowing that her fame for bending the rules and always getting the job done is about to put her in danger.
What starts out as a simple off-the-books mission turns into a race against time to stop one man, driven mad by his lust for power.
Running from pirates, bounty hunters and cybernetically enhanced super soldiers, Kira and her crew must find a way to win at any cost - the fate of the human race could depend on it.

Fans of Firefly, Star Trek and Star Wars should enjoy this fast paced brand new Romance series from Emma James!
Thor read 3/4 - 3/5 Kira is a combat pilot for the Terran Alliance and she takes great pride in being able to successfully complete missions that others would be unable to accomplish. When her thoughts of taking leave time are interrupted by a summons from her previous commanding officer, Colonel Grimm, she is eager to discover what kind of mission he has for her. He had dropped off the radar for the past several years and there were only rumors about his current command. When the meeting takes place in a dimly-lit bar, Kira is not sure if she wants the mission or not. It seems simple enough on the face of it, deliver a dangerous prisoner to a high-security prison. The only thing is the mission is not sanctioned by the Alliance, and there is obviously something the Colonel is not telling her. She agrees to do it as a personal favor. When her escorts proceeds to blow up her private ship she starts to get a really bad feeling. When a swarm of Zel'Dar attack the transport vessel, things take a turn for the worse. The prisoner is unexpectedly freed , and introduces himself as Commander Luther Rockhold, known better as Thor. He claims to have been wrongly incarcerated, a claim Kira is not prone to believe . he accuses Colonel Grimm of conducting genetic experiments on his race, the Arcanum. Thor tells Kira that Grimm is planning something big and bad, but he is not sure what. So begins an adventure that will not be competed in this book. Allies are made and so are enemies. When Colonel Grimes mission is horribly revealed, plans and lives are changed. I can't wait to see what happens next. I was given a copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
There was so much hype about this book that going in, I was really hoping it would live up to it. It definitely did not meet expectations.
Kyra is a talented pilot who seems to crave danger and has a pretty blasé, quirky take on it all. After absconding with Thor during a mission gone awry, they are chased around the galaxy with a bounty now on their heads by various aliens. Eventually they form a rag-tag crew with various friends found along the way to try to stop a larger coup now in progress.
First of all, I would not classify this as a romance. It's mainly a sci-fi adventure novel. There is some playful banter between the H/h that could have easily been platonic throughout the book. There wasn't any romantic chemistry whatsoever. There was one scene that Kira blushed at seeing Thor without a shirt and at the very end, they kissed one another, lay down...and then...it was morning. I'm totally fine with PG13 but where's the spark?
Secondly- The writing. Ohhhhh the writing. Where do I start? The author uses short, stilted sentences throughout the book. It makes it seem like she's trying to communicate to a small child. Each paragraph is divided into 1-2 sentences; causing the book to seem choppy and the narration monotonous with repetitive explanation. This book needs a heavy-handed edit for the grammar alone, let alone the writing style. Usually I can get through a book pretty quickly but I just couldn't concentrate on this for long as it couldn't hold my attention.
The premise wasn't that bad- if a little lackluster in the creativity department. I was able to get on board with the characters who had great personalities even though they weren't that well defined.
I received and ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is not the typical genre that I read but I wanted to try something different. This is a science fiction/action adventure book with a romantic twist toward the end.
Kira is a military pilot who is getting ready to go on leave when she is asked by her previous boss to transfer a prisoner. She decides to do him a favor because he was always nice to her and they are still close friends. While transporting the prisoner something goes wrong and they are attacked. During the attack the prisoner, Thor, helps Kira fight off the attackers and in the process shares with her why he was arrested and the real reason she was asked to transport him. Kira realizes that her friend and old boss is no longer on the side of justice and she decides to work with Thor to fight back. Will they be able to stop him before it's too late?
I gave this book 3 stars as it was a little slow to start for me and seemed to jump around a lot. Once I got into the story I started to like it but the characters were not very developed and it took too long to get interested in the book for me.
Excellent fantasy futuristic intriguing romance. Kiran is one of the best pilots in the military. She has worked hard but she also takes risky chances when flying mission so she didn't always follow orders by the book. Her commander took advantage of that so she would take a mission that was to be completely off the books. She trusted him with her career and life. Unfortunately, she went in blind on a mission that was deceptive, dangerous, deadly and illegal. Kiran's job was to deliver unknown but we'll protected cargo. Suddenly, she realized her cargo was a genetically superhuman. This is surprised by Kiran and there is romance in this story there is a HFN but it appears the story will continue. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author.
We met Thor, when the ship he was jailed on was attack by an Insect swarm in deep space, which caused the power to go out, thus allowing the cell door to open. Kira, the pilot, who had been coerced into taking this mission to deliver the then unknown prisoner to a bounty hunter near a black hole prison. However, for the two to survive, they had to join forces to get off the infested ship. This is just the start of the drama, as they are joined by others in a fight to advise authorities that the Commander that coerced Kira, and who was also responsible for Thor's imprisonment was on a path of world domination, and had to be stopped. Yes a very good read, being 5he 1st book in the "Far Hope: The complete series (Books 1-4).
We have Kira, who is a fighter pilot with attitude and never shuts-up. You just have to love her spunk. You have Thor who has been genetically altered to be a better fighter. He finds out what is really going on and that Grimm who is ahead of the soldiers wants total control. Thor is being sent to prison, Grimm has Kira take him there, but does not know much about why or who he is until they are the only ones left on the plane fighting for their lives. I think this first book would go over will with the teens and young adults. I think it would have been nice to have a prologue to let us know more about Kira and Grimm's time together. I received a arc copy for my honest review.
I received an ARC edition of this book from the author.
Rating: 3.5 stars
As a sci-fi book I really enjoyed this story, but as a romance it was more than a little lacking. The second book does a little bit better in the romance department, but I'm not sure I believe the romantic connection between Kira and Thor in this book, to me it was almost an afterthought. If the book had been marketed as a sci-fi book, rather than a sci-fi romance I think I would have not had the same expectations going in.
A lot of the plot in this book is build-up. More of it comes out in the second book, but this book lays the ground work for the characters meeting and setting out on their mission.
Excellent sci-if romance with lots of suspense, intrigue & love. Thor is a prisoner being taken far away by one of the best female military pilots, Kira. There is a lot of behind the scenes info that the reader will enjoy. Kira is well known for finding loop holes in the books or orders given to her. When her commanding officer gives her the assignment that is a top priority and secret she doesn’t like it but does accept the mission. The author pulls the reader in so that both Thor and Kira’s back stories come into play and they grow in understanding and love. If you’re looking for action then this book has it. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. James.
An absolute thumbs up 5 stars read!! I read in one sitting - had to know how it turned out for our crew! (yes they are easy to get attached to) E.A. James surpassed my expectations!! Solid plot with great characters, An engrossing storyline Intrigue & subterfuge Edge of your seat suspense Action packed and full of adventure Strong kick, @ss, cheeky heroine One all around excellent read! I received a free copy of this book and chose to leave a voluntary review
E. A. James is a masterful storyteller! The book Thor provides non stop action and adventure that flows seamlessly from one situation to another. It is fast paced with very well developed characters who provide action that pulls the reader along in anticipation of the next scene. I didn't want to put this book down until I was finished. The Far Hope series promises to be one of those series I look forward to devouring. Can't wait to read the next in this series! I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good Sci-Fi Romance! I personally enjoyed it immensely.
Kira does not follow any protocols and still manages to come out on top only because she knows someone high ranking. Her personality leaves a definite mark that no one can forget their meeting her. Her intuition seems to stop at piloting and she ignores those same feelings that have saved her in space. No real romance in this one. Their attraction was not developed. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I enjoy sci-fi romances and this is a fun read. I like that you get a strong female character leading the story. She is not afraid of a challenge and really enjoys taking risks. Her loyalty brings her to a dangerous assignment but also introduces her to a man that is her equal. There is a lot of action and suspense in the story and it keeps your interest.
Oh my gosh this book was so filled the with the fun stuff like a strong woman who doesn't allow a man (Alien) to strike fear in her heart, plenty of action that's both physical and a..... physical..wink wink....but all that aside you will have a hard time setting this book down once you open it because Ms. James doesn't hesitate to immerse you into chaos, war, and falling in love in the stars..just great!!
A great beginning to a new sci-fi series. The story seems to take you all over the galaxy. The main character is a human female pilot that is great at her job. All she wanted was her three weeks off, but a colleague from past calls in a favor. Now she has a bounty on her head and no clue what is really going on.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.
This isn't a series, it's a serial. This is really short and unfinished. (If you are interested look for the complete books.) The one star is for the content, not the length. (Honestly though I strongly doubt it's 220 pages....)
I greatly enjoyed this story. There was a very good balance of romance, action, and dialogue. It avoided getting bogged down in adventurous description.
Great cast of characters that I can't wait to read more of. A good sci-fi story, very little romance in this first of a series. It is definitely part of a series that will have to be read in order and if you are a reader that needs to have all of the story at once then you should wait til you have the whole series to read them.
Welcome to the future. Meet Kira Winters a balls to the walls pilot (think Maverick from Top Gun). She has been looking forward to her vacation for months. Wouldn’t you know that is when your former boss calls you up and ask you to pay him back for all he did for you. Still should be simple, just fly a prisoner to meet with the bounty hunter who will take him to jail. Yeah, real simple. It’s just lucky that she has friends on the black-market planet of Vandor to help her out when it all gets FUBARed. This is the first book I have read from E. A. James, but it won’t be the last. Plot twist and surprise heroes abound throughout the book. This is a multilayered story about people changing, appearances deceiving, and love doing its best to hold on. I can’t wait to read the next book and find out what happens next.
Thor is the first book in the Far Hope series. I wasn't sure what to expect. What I found was an interesting take on the genetically modified soldier storyline. It does end abruptly in a soft cliffhanger as the story will be continued in the next book. There is violence.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. The author did a good job of explaining the settings. There is a lot of history between characters in the storyline that keep you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. Plus when politics, the military, and government agencies are involved...you get the picture. It definitely kept me reading.
I enjoyed this book and it was a quick read. I received a copy of this book from the author and chose to leave a review for other readers.
Reading Thor reminded me so much of Star Trek. Captain Kira reminds me of Captain Kirk. She’s a very cocky but confident character and she knows how to command her ship. She takes rather very dangerous risks but somehow, like Kirk, she ends up surviving.
I really love this book and it would be awesome as a movie or TV show!
E.A. James has a wonderful way with words. Her description of her characters, the scenes, the ships, etc. are very well drawn out you could picture it all in your head while reading her words.
Colonel Grimm is a very sketchy character. I don’t trust him.
The Zel’ Dar are creepy creatures!!!
You could feel the adrenaline popping right off the pages.
The prisoner is surprising and Kira is very interesting!
Grimm is a horrible and psychotic person!!!
The author knows how to write her characters and provoking the right emotions at the right time from her readers.
Grimm sounds like a crooked cop!!!
Very unique characters!!!
Glad Kira and Thor were rescued. I was wary with Thor but after that stunt, I’m his!
I was hoping they’d get together and that was hot!
OMG!!! The ending was intense and left you wanting more!!!!

I got the prequel of this series and was intrigued by the female protagonist, Kira Winter, but the relationship between her and the male protagonist just felt a little too contrived in this book. The "I'm going to develop feelings for you because there is only one bed and we have to share it" kind of plot. Which I have nothing against that kind of plot line, but give me something believable when it comes to the developmental process. This just didn't do it for me.
Fast-paced, all out action packed SFR. I enjoy this type of story because of the numerous different alien species encountered along the way. Our heroine is feisty, smart and beyond capable of handling herself when sh@$ hits the fan! She is going to need a partner who can understand and encourage her, not coddle and smother her! Let's hope Thor has the cajones to keep up!
Entertaining. I am looking forward to the next book.
I bought this book because it sounded like it would be good. I noticed there was a prequel and downloaded then read Winter's Edge. I did not like Captain Kira Winter. She was driven and career focused and didn't seem human. She lacked empathy. Then I read this book. Now I kind of like her. She has matured in the 11 years between Winter's Edge and Thor. She has achieved her career goal and can focus on others and their concerns although she can be a bit of an ass. The editing was good although there were a few sentences that had an unnecessary word. Not enough to make the reading frustrating for the grammar patrol. The reason I only gave 4 stars is because the prequel shows a career driven woman who in Thor just accepts things as they happen, joking about being out of a job that was her purpose in life. All that being said, I really enjoyed the book and the cast of characters. There is humor and snark and any author who can change my mind about a character I don't like is worth reading. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Kept getting flashes of the Black Widow from the Avengers character for Kira and Captain American for Thor. Little flashes through out made me think of those two characters. The Book was well written and had a nice steady pace through out. The characters pulled me into wanting to keep reading to see what would happen next. A small glimpse of Thor and Kira getting together in the bedroom. Makes me wonder if those two will become a item.
Title: Thor Series: Far Hope Series Book 1 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: E.A. James Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Genre: #SciFi #5Stars☆☆☆☆☆ •••••••••••••••••••••••• I have no idea why but I felt like I was reading a TV script can't wait for the next episode. It started with "Winter's Edge" now Thor, these are really fantastic books. Captain Kira Winter's is human and a risk taker, there's nothing better to her than heart pumping, adrenaline rush. Now she is on vacation three weeks. That was until Colonel Grimm requested her presence in a shabby bar, now this sounded kind of funny. When he asked her to fly a ship for him taking a criminal to a prison on Jupiter 7, she agreed, after taking the prisoner to the freighter her ship was blown up. After that things just went from bad to worse no matter what something happened then she was the criminal on the run with a bounty on her head with the actual criminal she was carrying to prison Thor. Could what Thor says about Colonel Grimm be right? Now who is she to trust? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
