I really thought i was going to really love this one, being a huge fan of sports romance.
I don't even know how to explain what's wrong with it. I think it lacks substance and the characters are bland.

Here's the short version: a future baseball player meets a future journalist during spring break, they have hot sex, he leaves her because he has an important game in 2 days. Three years later, he's a baseball sensation and she's trying to save her career by writing a story on him. During those 3 years, she cyberstalked him and he says he always thought of her.
Once they meet again, there's that struggle between "you can't interview me, can't write about me" and "i need to, because i have to keep my job and pay rent", they have sex a couple more times (though i can't seem to define their relationship) and that's it. 😐

I didn't understand why wasn't he allowed to be interviewed, I didn't understand Nico...
I can't describe the characters. I don't have anything to say about them. Did this ever happen to you? How can you read a book and be left with nothing? No opinion?
Maybe it's just me....

Oh, there was one thing i loved. During one sex scene, she taught him something about Tantra, about breathing together and becoming one. That was pretty cool and it was the first time I read about something like that.

In the end, I would highly recommend you to read the book yourself and form your own opinion about it, don't trust my judgement. :)

I enjoyed the characters in this book. When we first meet Rob, he's just about to start his professional baseball career. He meets Heidi on spring break. Heidi is the daughter of strict parents who spends more time studying than partying. When they first meet, there is a connection but the timing is wrong. When they meet again a few years later, they still have that connection, but there are other issues that are trying to keep them apart.

I loved the characters in the book. Usually, I'm not a big fan of a book that alternates between the main characters, but it works with this book. When you first meet Rob, he's a little awkward around Heidi. He doesn't know what to say or says the wrong thing. Then it switches to Heidi point of view and you see how she interprets his words and actions. I enjoyed this part of the book more than I thought I would.

I loved that Rob didn't want Heidi to give up her career for him. It would have fixed their problems, but Heidi would be giving up a part of herself that made Rob fall in love with her. I loved Heidi's determination to get make it as a journalist even though she kept hitting roadblocks.

Although I loved the Rob and Heidi relationship, I don't think they would make it if there wasn't the Heidi and Samantha friendship. As Heidi's best friend, she's supportive, but she also brutally honest. She forces Heidi to really look at the situation.

I was excited because found a sports romance with an Asian female main character (part of a Lunar New Year reading challenge for 2020) and really sad and angered with how Heidi was presented, her ethnicity and race- phrases like black Chinese hair, Rob mentioning he never had a thing for Asian girls, how her skin tone was written about etc were just throughout the book and just rubbed me the wrong way as it perpetuated stereotypes and I as a Asian American felt exploited. Especially with use of the word EXOTIC (mentioned multiple times)- it's not a compliment and it is racist! I could not believe an Asian author would portray her character this way.

The characters themselves were inconsistent and felt that the conflict wasn't even an issue because both characters knew what they were doing and the results of actions but still blamed one another- so much back and forth that didn't do anything for the plot or the resolution of the said conflict. It just didn't make sense

I just didn't believe their story as everything was bland and unnecessary elements that gave no explanation

What happens when the time for love isn’t right? What happens when you want a career? What happens when you have two dreams?

This book will make have all those butterflies when you’re reading it. You will fall in love with Rob and Heidi. This story has its up’s and down’s and it will question what’s best for you. Rob has the love for baseball and family.
All Heidi wants is to find that same love.
Kathy Lyons wrote this book with lots of passion. It made me stop and think about life.
Thank you for letting me read this book.

I really liked this book. Rob and Heidi meet on Spring break in Florida. Heidi doesn't really want to be there, but coaxed into going by her girlfriend. Rob is there for a few days with his friends before he heads back to college to resume baseball practice, knowing this game coming up is being scouted.
His dream is to be a major league player. When Heidi's bf enters them in a wet t shirt contest she catches Rob's eye. Rob knows she's different. Heidi is Chinese, she's relatively shy and quiet, studious and dutiful to her family despite the fact that she refuses to go to law school and wants to pursue her dream as a journalist. Rob and Heidi have one evening together, it's really like a date but they do end up in bed. Rob leaves her, saying goodbye not even staying the night. Gotta get up early and get on the road back to school so they aren't late for practice. Rob breathes baseball. Baseball doesn't love you back and keep you warm at night Rob. Rob's going to find that out.
Three years pass and Heidi is living and working in Indianapolis and just lost her job as a reporter.
Rob is there too, having just signed and he's the home run king. When Heidi bargains for her job, she uses her connection with Rob, telling her boss she can get an interview with him. If she does she not only gets her job back but gets to stop doing schlep work.
Rob and Heidi meet again. Anyone in the press are a huge no no for ball players and they have Rob on a tight leash. Even though he never forgot about Heidi, despite the fact he never contacted her. There's a whole lot of things that happen between these two while he's trying to keep her in his life, keep his job and keep hitting home runs. Heidi is a distraction. When things get really tense between them, Rob slumps a little and gets hell from his coach and handler about it. Heidi is still determined to get a story so goes back to Rob's home town, digging. Rob quickly follows. Wasted trips on both parts, but unknown to both at the time.
I liked the plot of this book. What I didn't get were the feels I expected from both Heidi and Rob. The boss started out in that direction and became all about oneupmanship. I didn't care much for that aspect. Heidi, for all her talk and thought process about her heritage didn't walk it. Rob was a good guy, he just foundered when he should have swam.
Nonetheless, I still liked it. I liked the beginning and it allowed me to sail through the rest of the book when things went a little askew.
I look forward to another book in this series.

After getting excited about the novelty of a sports romance with an Asian heroine, I felt so let down by Heidi and Rob. They were sweet together but their immaturity and blandness made the story drag.

First, I have to mention that the repetitive descriptions of Heidi's looks were troubling and hard to ignore. For example, her skin was constantly called "yellow gold"; which sounds like a racist butter label. Predictably, there was tired cliched reference to Heidi's "almond eyes". And Rob kept marveling over her Asianness:
Nothing like the image of getting wet with a hot Asian girl to short-circuit my brain.
It doesn't help that both Heidi and Rob seem preoccupied with race. When Heidi's BFF hooks up with a guy during spring break, Heidi laughs it off:
"She's learning about Hispanic dick." [Heidi] scrunched up her nose. "Her words, not mine."
And I have to mention the fact that the Chinese girl gets an all-American blue-eyed boy from Nebraska named, of all things, "Rob Lee". I know his name plays into a mild joke at the end of the book, but c'mon, all I could think of was poor sweet Heidi Wong hooking up with a guy whose full name could be "Robert E. Lee".

Heidi and Rob's meet-hot at the Spring Break wet t-shirt contest was fantastically done, with the amazing sexual chemistry and awkwardness facing two young people after an unbelievable spring break one-night stand. Unfortunately, once Heidi and Rob entered into the real world with professional and parental expectations, they crumpled under the pressure, and so did the story.

Hitting It was a very quick read. Rob and Heidi were a one night stand three years ago. Now their paths cross and they still feel that same attraction. But with decisions involving careers and family, they find it difficult to commit to a relationship. Nonetheless, Rob and Heidi do end up together.

I did feel that Heidi was a bit of pushover. She could have been made into a much more stronger character and it would have made the plot much more interesting.

Being a fan of sports romance, I was excited to request this ARC.
Unfortunately this story just didn't do it for me.

Heidi and Rob meet at a wet t-shirt contest while on spring break in Florida. They hook up, have a great time and Rob basically splits right after due to an important game he has coming up. Rob is dedicated to his baseball career and decides he doesn't have room for anything (or anyone else)

Fast forward, three years later.
Heidi is in a bit of a pickle - land an interview with this superstar baseball player (who she's effectively been cyberstalking for years) or lose her job completely and fail to pay rent.
So our to characters meet again. "Sparks fly" yada yada yada.
I didn't feel it the second time either.

The characters were one dimensional. The subject of conflict was just scratch your head- huh? And the most important thing in a romance was just glossed over several times throughout the novel.
'We talked for hours', 'We laughed at each other's jokes', 'We bonded' (Just for clarification those are not direct quotes but similar phrases were used)

Anyway, I think if some clever dialogue between the characters was added it would've made this novel so much more better.
The love scenes were okay, but again, could've had more impact had a true bond been established between the characters.

Hitting it was a fast read. If you like sports romance with little angst, you might enjoy this novel.
It sadly just did not work for me.

Hitting It is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Rob and Heidi meet on Spring Break both are with friends who seem intent on getting them out of their comfort zones, Rob has a big baseball game coming up where he knows scouts are going to be watching him and Heidi comes from a strick family where nothing less than straight A’s are good enough. A few cocktails in and Heidi is convinced to entering a wet t shirt contest and that’s where she catches Rob’s eye but the timing is all wrong. Fast forward a few years and Heidi is now a journalist and a interview with Rob is what she needs to keep her job but will it just be an interview and will the timing be right this time around....
I loved getting to know the characters in this book and I loved the friendship and support that Heidi got from Samantha, this is a second chance love story with a fair few bumps along the way. Looking forward to reading more from Kathy Lyons.

This book was lackluster for me. I LOVE sports romances. They are my favorite. This one seemed like a little odd to me. Future baseball star (and a cocky one) Rob has a one night stand with a future journalist, Heidi , he meets in a wet t shirt contest during spring break. So far, their romantic encounter starts with a wet t shirt contest and a one night stand they have mins after meeting each other. Romantic? Not so much. I love romance. This wasn't it.

Fast foward a few years. Heidi is getting fired unless she interviews Rob. Rob is not allowed to give interviews. Neither has seen or talked to each other in years, BUT they have sex mins within seeing each other again.
No romance throughout the whole story. Just fell flat.

I was really liking the first half of the story, but the last half kinda went down hill for me. Rob and Heidi had a little spring break fling before he made it big. Fast forward 3 years and she has to write an article on him for some cash to service this thing called life. For some reason, which I don’t understand, he’s not allowed to do interviews. Huh? Why? I didn’t get it. I also thought there was a lot of inner dialogue. I’m a dialogue girl, I like the chitchat. I did skim some parts when there were a couple of pages with nothing but innerness. So I marked it down to meh.

I really enjoyed this book! I like both the main characters a lot. Rob the up and coming baseball star. Heidi the struggling journalist. These two shouldn't be together but they share history. An incredible passion filled night from spring break during college. Neither of them has ever forgotten the other. Now she needs a story to get her big break. He's forbidden by his contract to give interviews to the press. These two work hard to find a way to have each other while not losing themselves. The book is very well done and it's one I think everyone will enjoy. I highly recommend it.

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author. (netgalley) I wasn't crazy about this story and I was excited about it since I am a sports fan and tend to like books featuring any sport. But one thing I hate is time lapses, and this had one. So Rob and Heidi meet on a school break and have sex and he leaves and they don't see each other for three years. He becomes a hot baseball player and she becomes a journalist. Of course she ends up having to interview him and he doesn't want that, they have sex because isn't that what you do when you haven't seen each other, yeah that about sums up their relationship

Rob Lee is just a good old Nebraska boy who had an amazing spring break fling with Heidi Wong in college. Three years later he is a rookie for an MLB team and she is a reporter who needs an exclusive with him to keep her job. Rob is trying to show Heidi that he more than just an baseball player and is pulling out all the stops to make her his. Life is never easy and being an adult is even harder.

I am a big fan of sports and romance. when I can get two for one, I love it. This story was cute. I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. One of the big things was Heidi. She seemed kind of whiney to me. She never really fought. I didn't really get into her until she stood up to Rob's BS with the publicity stunt. That was the big swing for me, however, that was almost at the end of the book. Rob was focused on his baseball career. He worked hard and did not allow for distraction. He was a jerk to Heidi and did not handle the situation with any finesse. I liked him better then. At least you saw his determination and grit. When they meet again, they both allowed others to manipulate and bully them. It all worked out in the end but boh characters were to "easy". The writing was good. There were some cute moments. I liked the story overall. I would read more.

Hitting It by Kathy Lyons

Sports related contemporary romance. Told from both the hero and heroine perspective in alternating chapters.
Instant chemistry, lust and Tantra.

I’m fine with any type of romance between couples whether it’s race, gender or age. Romance is beautiful. Here, the hero focuses very heavily on her Asian looks. Repeatedly. And in comparison. He’s enamored.

I didn’t like when she went to his home town to “dig up dirt”. Redeeming herself, she felt bad about it. Not sure that’s enough to justify it but I realize her very life financial support relied on it. But I did like that she understood and expected that he would choose his career over herself.

I liked Rob’s dilemma on liking Heidi if not understanding himself enough to know what he wanted, needed or should do. True to life. Until something clicks. And once it does, he needs to juggle career issues. Again, real life. Fortunately this is a romance so you can count on everything working out in the end.

Rob is just awkward at times, "I stood there, trying to force my mouth to speak. What the ***l was wrong with me? “Hi,” I finally managed to say. Then I shoved the cups at Heidi. “Drink.” It wasn’t even a question." Rob thinks very highly of his woman, "trust Heidi to say the hard truth immediately. The woman did not know how to be sneaky, and it was one of the things I adored about her." I liked this book, I really liked Rob.

Heidi Wong will do anything to keep her job, even if it means writing an exclusive on a man she claims she knows better than she does. Meeting Bobcats heavy hitter Rob Lee before he made it to the Major Leagues was a dream come true until he broke her heart by wanting to go their separate ways without exchanging phone numbers. Determined to get her interview, Heidi finds she has a challenge on her hands, especially since Rob isn't allowed to talk to the press. Will Heidi get her way or will Rob break her heart all over again?

What an interesting and entertaining read Ms. Lyons has delivered in this first book of her Locker Room Diaries where the main characters were riveting due to their back stories; the compelling dialogue drew me in from the beginning and had me enjoying how this story started, as Heidi does something no one ever expected of her. Really, she's brave and shows she isn't afraid to take a chance.

With the main characters, I loved their growing relationship, as the hero knows he shouldn't get involved with the heroine, and yet, he can't seem to resist. Will he be able to win Heidi over? Moreover, the hero is confident, determined and I liked how far he was willing to go to win the heroine over, even though his options seemed impossible because if he got caught he would face consequences. While the heroine, she's resilient and I liked how determined she was to get her story. No way could she give up, especially not when she's worked so hard to get to where she is. Then again, it's no wonder she works so hard because she's proving to her parents that she doesn't need to follow the path they wanted her to in order for them to be proud of her.

Overall, Ms. Lyons has delivered a really good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance wonderful and had me loving the hero's determination to show the heroine that they could have something great, if she's willing to trust him; and the ending had me loving how these two make up after their relationship goes awry. Certainly, the hero was willing to risk everything to be with her. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely because the heroine hit it out of the ballpark in getting everything she wanted. I would recommend Hitting It by Kathy Lyons, if you enjoy second chance romances, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Naima Simone, Amy Andrews, Kate Meader and Lauren Hawkeye.

Rob is an up and coming minor league baseball player whose focus is firmly on his career and not on relationships or women. He was raised in Nebraska and is a good friend and close to his family.

Heidi is Chinese and is quiet and serious. She feels the pressure from her parents to attend law school when she really wants to be a journalist. She is on spring break when her bestie convinces her to take part in a wet t-shirt contest and she and Rob share a steamy encounter, but it is the wrong time for anything more.

Three years later they meet again when Rob is now a rookie in the MLB in Indianapolis where Heidi is a journalist. With her job on the line she convinces her editor to let her do a personal story on Rob and now she just needs to convince him as it is forbidden for him to talk to any reporter unless approved by the team. Is this finally their time or will Heidi’s determination to write a story about Rob destroy what they could have before it begins?

This is a second chance at love story between two people who must decide which comes first their career or love. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

I can't say that I liked this one very much. I love sports romances, but the writing fell flat for me. Rob and Heidi meet on spring break, he falls instantly in lust, and they have sex within a couple of hours of knowing each other. Spring forward. Rob is a major star, and Heidi is a journalist who needs to write a story on him for her job. They then proceed to have sex after no contact for 3 years. Yeah, not really doing it for me. They have a sexual relationship, but I can't say that I buy them as an actual couple. There just isn't enough substance for me to believe it. This was a first for me from this author, but I would be willing to give her another read.

This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. Sports romance novels are my favourite genre so I was half way in love with this book before reading the first page.
I liked how this story played out. With Rob and Heidi meeting each other at spring break. They had a very unusual first meeting, but they definitely had an instant connection.
Three years pass and they run into each other again. This time around, they are both sure of their feelings and are more than happy to act on them.
There are plenty of ups and downs and even more roadblocks in their way to their HEA, but it was enjoyable reading them find their way.
Would definitely read more from this author.

Spring break leads Heidi Wong into a quick fling with Rob Lee. She never forgot hm so when it comes time to make it big as a sports journalist sh searches him out. The problem is he is not allowed to be interviewed by any journalists and the chemistry between them is out of control.
She gets her hands dirty to get the story and finds out things are not what they seem in his life. While he is trying to keep it together n the field.
To me the story had many places where it lagged. It didn't flow for me in a way to hold my attention.

Hitting It by Kathy Lyons is contemporary second chance sports romance. Heidi Wong and Rob Lee had a spring break fling that neither can forget. When their paths cross three years later they are still interested but she is a journalist and he is a rookie in the big leagues and not allowed to talk to the press. His handler is cocky and cruel but effective. This story works hard to prove that love overcomes all. This story deals with cultural differences and expectations. I really liked Heidi and felt she deserved better but the heart wants what the heart wants.

3.5 stars. Heidi and Rob met at spring break where they shared a night together. Three years later they reconnect. Heidi really needs a story on Rob if she wants to continue with her journalism career but unfortunately Rob can’t talk to the press since it’s goes against his contract. But the passion and connection that they both share won’t stop them from being together. They might have had some challenges along the way but at the end their love prevailed. Hitting It was a fun read and I really enjoyed reading it.

When I went to a bookish conference in April I was finally able to pull together all the random bits of romance knowledge loose in my mind and realize that Kathy Lyons and Jade Lee are the same person. How did I not know this!?! I’ve loved Lee’s historical romances for years so I nabbed this first-in-a-series contemporary romance by Lyons as soon as it became available earlier this month. In Hitting It the sensible heroine, Heidi, meets an up-and-coming baseball player, Rob, during a spring break trip to Florida. The two college students take to each other immediately but then go their separate ways after a very short liaison. If you like uber sexy, new adult, or sports romances this one should not be missed.

HITTING IT by Kathy Lyons is the first in her Locker Room Diaries series. Alternating first person.

Heidi Wong and Rob Lee meet during spring break. They fall hard but it’s one night…

A few years later Rob is the rookie wonder, and Heidi needs an exclusive interview to save her reporter job…

Kathy Lyons’s characters are fun and entertaining, from their fumbling attempts at college-aged coolness to heartfelt conversations with their well-meaning parents… I’m looking forward to the rest of this series!

There are no 1/2 stars so I rounded up. I honestly feel it wasn't the book , it boils down to my interest. I feel this was made for a younger crowd ( college age maybe) . The characters , while cute , just didn't do much for me.

Like I said , this is a cute and fun book, just a little young for my taste.

Kathy writes great sports romances and Hitting It is a great example of this! The characters that Kathy writes are great to read; they are so well thought out with great details. This is especially seen in the different POVs in each chapter. The plot was faced paced and a joy to read.
