Gwar: Orgasmageddon

Rate this book
From the depths of outer space to the frozen wasteland of Antarctica, punk rock and heavy metal's most shocking and blasphemous band of intergalactic blood spewing alien monsters has returned to kill everything and respect nothing in the pages of Orgasmageddon! Banished to the past by the cold and calculating Mr. Perfect, the heroes of GWAR trample through time like a deranged Bill and Ted on bath salts - antics ensue as they stomp and smash and shape human history to what we accept as our current reality.

SUPER FAST REVIEW:
Guys, I’m gonna put it bluntly. This is a Gwar comic. Anyone who knows what Gwar is shouldn’t expect a masterpiece in literature. They should expect dark humor, mindless gore and gratuitous sexual imagery. That’s what this is. That being said it is a fun Gwar time travel story, I did enjoy it overall. Some issues I suppose but again, not expecting a literary masterpiece here.

Vulgar. Tasteless. Crude. These are all words that could describe Gwar: Orgasmageddon. And it's exactly what we've come to expect from rock and roll's wildest band with the bloodiest stage show. Orgasmageddon dives deep into Gwar lore and is rife with pop culture references. In this book many historical events are attributed to Gwar as a result of a time-travel journey, including the sinking of the Titanic. Subjects of Gwar's lampooning and mockery in this book include (but are not limited to): Bill Cosby, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, O.J. Simpson, corrupt cops, and George Lucas. And none of it is very subtle. Loved it.

As a huge fan of GWAR I found this book incredibly underwhelming, the humor was sort of the same but more flashy for better or for worse. The entire thing hinges on dick and sex jokes which is only one of the many things that Dave Brockie and GWAR were good at doing. Personally I think the band as a whole sort of went down hill after Brockie’s death and this book really shows what’s missing in the new GWAR escapades. As a fan I’d say its just kind of a boring read (I’d still say you should read and see for yourself) and as a non fan I’d stay far away from this.
