A bittersweet reunion... Separated by feuding families when they were children, Detective Lyn Kramer of the Elm Grove Police Department and her estranged twin sister, high school teacher Melissa Farnsworth, have finally been reunited—but under terrifying circumstances. After freeing her sister from the clutches of Lester Barton, a devious crime boss who also happens to be their sadistic uncle, Lyn vows to keep Melissa and her family safe. However, that goal is thwarted when Barton, working behind the scenes, infiltrates their sleepy town with drug traffickers and threatens to destroy the sisters and everyone they love as an act of revenge. Can the recently reunified twins lure the ringleader out of hiding and into the cold light of justice? Or will their evil uncle succeed in terrorizing the sisters into submission?
Inspired by so many wonderful authors, I have always had an unquenchable desire to read and write books. I am a lifelong bookworm and avid adventurer. I have fun living in Washington where the scenic landscapes are the perfect setting for weaving new tales.
After reading Missing, the first book in the Lyn Kramer mystery series by Ann Jones, I wanted to read more. When the second book, Trapping, was published earlier this year, I anxiously grabbed a free copy during the initial marketing launch and put it into my reading schedule for May. It was next up this week and as soon as I jumped in, it felt like I'd never left the story... kinda like I was home again. It actually takes place just hours after the first book ended, which for anyone who read it knew clearly there was a lot more to be revealed in the story. Twins separated for ~30 years couldn't possibly not get together and re-discover themselves, right? Jones doesn't disappoint, seamlessly transitioning from finding one another in the first book to protecting one another from a lecherous uncle in this second one.
Jones has created a very relatable family in this series. Raised separately by their two grandfathers, the twin girls' parents died under mysterious circumstances long ago. One was mistreated by her uncle, forced into a life of crime. The other became a cop. Who better than to take down the crime family than the force of their reunited bond? Book two kicks off with a secret plan to lure the uncle out of hiding and hopefully convict him of a number of crimes over the years. But Uncle Lester is very smart, keeping himself at least two degrees separated from his henchmen doing any dirty work. He can't be connected to any crimes, but he can still hurt both girls. Throw in a story about a hit-and-run driver, a drug ring operating in a small Midwest town, a growing romance re-ignited after a decade, an ex with a grudge, and a difficult family reunion, the book has it all.
Though dubbed "writing clean suspense with a touch of romance," I feel there's a lot bigger picture going on in the books. The writing style is clean and direct making it easy to stay connected with and keep turning the pages. The characters are well drawn, full of angst and emotion, history and love. The new criminals are shady but also potentially mere red herrings. There are budding romances at many generational levels. The cast of culprits leaves you with a dozen or so characters who could be working for Uncle Lester, reporting back any information on Lyn and Melissa, or they could just be normal citizens caught up in their own webs of deceit. Who knows? Only those who read the book, right? So get on it!
What I like most about the book is that although there's a mystery, and even with the suspense and drama, at its core this is a story about a family torn apart by good and evil. When the twins were separated years ago, a rift the size of Kansas was opened... and it's not going to heal in 1 or 2 books. There is longevity here in these characters which is always something important I seek in a new series. Jones creates balance, just enough tension on the surface that you know things are gonna blow up, just not when it will happen. It could be this book, it could be the next one... but a family separated for over two decades doesn't just heal overnight. And since the span of the first two books barely covers a few weeks, there's a lot of unexplored time. I'm confident Jones will deliver in creating a few explosive moments in the near future.
Can't wait til she publishes the third one... now if I could only find a way to get the answer of when and where it will happen. Kudos for an excellent follow up in this series.
"Trapping" is a great read and an excellent continuation of the Lyn Kramer storyline. The suspense and wondering what will happen next is incredible! I am always picturing in my mind what I am reading as most everyone does and as I live in the Midwest and am familiar with the locations where it is taking place, it helps picturing everything as I read. I thought the last few chapters were very intense, just as they were in "Missing". I couldn't stop reading when I got to the later chapters. I really like the bits of flirting and romance that are tied to the story too. Anxiously awaiting the next book in this series.
Enjoyed the second Lyn Kramer book. It's an easy read and keeps the reader wondering what will happen next. Will Lyn and her twin sister ever have a happy family life without worrying about their family's safety? And, of course, we all wonder if a romance will ever blossom. I especially appreciated reading a good book without coarse language or graphic violence. Excellent read!
Trapping is a great addition to the Lyn Kramer mystery series and I enjoyed it as much as the first. The characters are realistic, relatable and engaging while the plot is even paced and entertaining with twists and turns that will leave you wanting more. If you are looking for a fast-paced, edgy, steamy romantic suspense then this book is not for you. Trapping is a clean suspenseful read that does not include foul language or sexual situations. There is a low key romantic interest between Lyn and her partner, Jud but nothing described in detail; just internal thoughts from the characters and a few flirting situations, here and there. And be prepared to be left hanging at the end of the book again. Like Missing, Trapping ends with a cliffhanger that will have you wishing you already had the next book in your hands (and I am hoping that will not be too long of a wait!).
In the first book Missing, we met Detective Lyn Kramer and her new partner, Jud Hughes, who are pulled in to solve the disappearance of a local wife and mother, Melissa Farnsworth, reported missing by her husband Gary. Little did Lyn know at the time, but taking on this case will have her past and present colliding and all those close to her in danger, as well as herself. The missing woman, Melissa, is Lyn’s long-lost twin sister from whom she was separated from in their youth. After their parents died each set of grandparents took a sister to raise and where Lyn was given a loving home and grew up to be a detective, Melissa had a hard life in a family of criminals and was still being blackmailed by her uncle Lester to do his bidding. Once the clues lead Lyn and Jud to Melissa and they reunite they all compare notes and put a plan in motion to remove Melissa from Lester’s grasp and her family from danger.
Trapping starts where Missing ends and has Melissa trying to re-engage in her day to day life with her husband, Gary, her children and her teaching job; as well as work in secret with Lyn, Jud, and their grandfather ‘Pops’ to bring down their corrupt uncle and his associates. They have a plan in motion and have to work under the radar with misdirection, gossip and fake relationships trying to gain the upper hand on Lester. They have a lot of breadcrumbs to follow to connect all the players in his drug enterprise and make sure no one is the wiser on their plan and Melissa and her family are kept safe. There are more twists and turns presented in this book to keep you engaged in the story and invested in the characters. Things start to heat up for Lester and paranoia sets in when connections are made and warrants issued for some associates. Will he be able to stay one step ahead of Lyn and the gang or will they finally have everything they need to take him out of the game for good? This was an exciting read and great addition to the series. I look forward to seeing what comes next.
So this sequel was really good! Picks up from where the first book ends so that's good, I was able to dive straight back in to the story with ease.
Some very good plot twists and the story is developing really well. I still really love the characters and Jud is still my favourite character.
It's so nice to read about a main character who isn't seen as 100% perfect to everyone, the character herself knows she has flaws and doesn't pretend to be anything but herself and that is very refreshing to read about.
A very good paced book that makes for fun quick reading, in the best possible way! I'm so glad Ann gave me the chance to read and review the first book of this series, I have been waiting patiently for the sequel to come out and now I have read it and really enjoyed it :D
A Good read I thoroughly enjoyed this book -AnnJone's writing style is very good and her character believable. It's the second in the Lyn Kramer series, and I'm looking forward to her next book. A Recommended read..
This is Book 2 of the Lyn Kramer series and we pick up where we left off in Missing.
The twins, Lyn and Melissa, have been reunited, not just in terms of family but in a mutual plan to bring down their evil Uncle Lester Barton. While trying to keep the charade of cooperation with Barton going, Melissa and company help Lyn orchestrate a sting of the drug dealing uncle.
Will they be found out? Will they succeed? It’s anybody’s guess but we are rooting for them.
Meanwhile, the under-the-surface romance between Kramer and her partner Jud continues to simmer.
Based on the ending, Book 3 can’t be far behind.
Like Missing, Trapping is a light, easy-to-read mystery, populated with likable characters dealing with difficult situations.
Ms. Jones weaves suspense and mystery with the second installment of her detective, crime mystery Trappings. Though I’ve yet to read the first installment, Missing, I was able to follow the storyline easily. Detective Lynn Kramer and her partner Jud Hughes have their work cut out for them when Drug traffickers infiltrate their small town, Elm Grove, led by her uncle, Lester, a Drug Lord bent on reaping vengeance against Lynn and her sister, Melissa. This story comes at a relevant time, with the epidemic of oxycodone addictions in this country. Ms. Jones does an excellent job painting citizens of this small town and especially their comings and goings at a local store, a place suspected of being a pickup station for drugs.
I felt I was spying along with Detective Kramer as she and her partner spied and video locals comings and goings. The author interlaces each character’s history, and affiliations well, coming to a conclusion of their undertaking in the seedy world of abuse and addiction. I held my breath, hoping at the end to see more romance explode between Lyn and Judd. I suspect the attraction between the two is stronger than they let on. I’m hoping the author explores the romance more in her third installment. This book is super suspenseful and held my attention to the very end. I couldn’t put it down. If you love detective mysteries, you’re going to enjoy Ms. Jones novel. I highly recommend Trappings.
I really enjoyed this book, another Lyn Kramer detective novel. I loved getting to know more about the characters I met in Missing, Ann Jones’ first novel. Can’t wait for the third one to see if Lyn and Jud really get together instead of having a fake romance and to see if Todd appears in it and has turned his life around .
Continuing through the crime drama that is Lyn Kramer's life, "Trapping" further delves into the wonderful, likable, and well thought-out characters as they suss out and then arrest those who are selling drugs at the local high school. With a little romance, fake or perhaps not so fake, Jones really draws the reader into this novel and into these police officers' lives. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
That was good, could tell I miss the first book but rather than making it obnoxious it made me want to read it next to catch up. This book kept me interested enough to keep reading and not stopping to read 'Missing' first, but then taking things out of sequence doesn't really bother me. It was a fast read, a little slow to start, more so because I missed the first book but got drawn in and found myself slipping in more pages to read as I got the chance. Would have liked a bit more at the end for a surprising twist, you see were it is going and that doesn't change, the characters are good and you get drawn into their lives. There is enough of a character mix that you can almost identify with one (the good guys of course and I'm not telling my character). I am ready for the next one so it's a 5 star to me because anything less would likely have me spend my valuable spare time doing/reading something else.
Trapping is an exciting addition to the Lyn Kramer series that started with Missing. We met Detective Lyn Kramer and her partner, Jud Hughes in the first book along with her twin sister Melissa Farnsworth, her husband Gary and the sisters' grandfather better known as Pops. When the twins' parents were killed, they were split between both sets of grandparents since no one could come to a decision about who should get them. Lyn had the advantage with the Kramer's, who were upstanding citizens. Pops is now a retired police officer and their grandmother has passed away. Melissa on the other hand wound up with the corrupt Barton family and was brought up in the life, dealing with drugs against her will. Their grandfather Barton has died but her Uncle Lester is carrying on the family tradition. Lyn and Melissa had been kept apart for years until Gary reported Melissa missing and Lyn and Jud happened to be the detectives that he talked to. Gary had never met Lyn and didn't know until then that Melissa had a twin. There was a sting that came out of Missing where Melissa was found and taken home. Fast forward to Trapping and the police are watching to see where the drugs from the sting are being distributed. Uncle Lester is also watching to see if Melissa has given him up to the police. They have put out a story that she was missing because she was kidnapped for revenge by a con that Lyn put away. They know that Lester would do anything to save his own neck and his business. No one is safe from him and his reach-even Melissa's children. This is a very suspenseful story that the whole family gets involved in. I found it to be a fast paced easy read that kept me turning the pages. I highly recommend it but Missing really needs to be read first. I am looking forward to the next book. The story is not finished! I was given a copy by the author to read and give an honest review. Opinions are mine.
This is another great mystery/thriller by Ann Jones! In this story the twin girls - Melissa and Lyn Kramer who we met before in her first book, Missing, have a touching, yet dramatic reunion, which leads to a mystery about someone selling drugs in Melissa's town. To catch the bad guys they set a trap, which involves deceit, betrayal, and intrigue. One of their main nemesis is their uncle Lester Barton who gives evil a run for the money. What I like best about Jones' books in this series is, that her main characters are strong, realistic, independent, resourceful, and easy to relate to. You don't find that combination often in characters. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for a Book 3 to this series, Ann Jones.
I really struggled with this story. First off, I wasn't aware that it was a continuation from an earlier story so I didn't know the characters and background and it jumped right in with little to no explanation about who was who and what was what. The editing could use a tweaking. And to make matters worse, it doesn't end with this story. It leaves you hanging. If I had known that, I would not have read it. With all that said, if you're looking for a series to read that's not too deep into police procedures with a small town feel, you could do much worse than Jones' Lyn Kramer series.
Lyn is reunited with her twin sister Melissa after being separated since the death of their parents. Lyn stayed with her grandparents while Melissa went with a uncle who was on the bad side of the law. Now Lyn(a cop) must protect her family and her town from the drugs that their uncle is trafficking in and selling among school kids and adults. Ann Jones is such a talented and fantastic writer and author who makes you connect with her characters and story and keeps you turning the pages until you reach the end. Once you reach the end you are already wanting the next story to be out so you can know what happens next. Ann is such an amazing lady who treats each and every reader as special and always responds to any questions and comments they might have. Grab your copies today and start reading before the next book is released.
The sequel to "Missing - Lyn Kramer Mystery". I fell in love all over again with the continued story line and brewing romance/s. This novel successfully awakens the visual imagination as one ponders the path of Trapping. I really hope there may be a third book in the works as I am on a cliffhanger from that last chapter. Ann, again you have managed to enthrall me and thrust me into the nail-biting world of a County Police Department and Uncle Lester's dirty work.
Wow, you are certainly going from strength to strength Ann. So much description, so many interwoven characters. I really cannot wait for the next instalment. A great detective novel and a must read for anyone who enjoys this genre.
