A steamy standalone romance novel with a HEA and guaranteed no cheating, perfect for anyone craving a little Texas heat... Can you ever get a second chance at a first love? I've been stuck in this small town my whole life, waiting tables at a struggling family diner that needs me around -- trapped no matter how much I want to escape. The closest thing I got to happiness was a teenage fling with Hale the boy from the wrong side of the tracks, who ran away to the big city and never looked back. Until now, that is. Now, ten years later, he's here in my diner -- a famous singer-songwriter about to start the first leg of a nationwide tour, and still as hot -- and as dangerous -- as ever. I know I shouldn't. I know we could never be together after all this time... But no matter how I try, I can't stop myself falling right back in love with him. When I ran away a decade ago, I thought there'd be nothing on earth that could drag me back to that crappy little town and my abusive no work, no future, no way in hell. Nothing... except her. Still there, ten years on. The girl that got away. The girl I haven't been able to stop thinking about. And this time, I plan to show her that I'm playing for keeps. Praise for 'I have to say that I honestly do not think that I have read such a romantic love story in a very long time. The relationship that Carrie and Hale have is so intense you can feel it coming off the pages.' 'A rollercoaster ride of intense twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.' 'The story-line in this book was nothing less than brilliant and the love story between the characters so real that it seemed like watching a movie.'
Blurb: Can you ever get a second chance at a first love? No one was surprised when sixteen year old Hale Fischer left the small town of Eden, Texas. After all, he was just one more kid from the wrong side of the tracks – a kid with a smart mouth and a short temper, destined to end up in jail... or worse. When he disappeared, no one gave him a second thought – except for Caroline Walker, who had just had the most romantic summer of her young life.
But ten years later, no one is more surprised than Carrie to see the man that rolls into town on his motorbike, eager to reconnect. The old Hale is gone, and in his place is a chiselled hunk of a man – a musician on his way to start a nationwide tour, who seems to have the world at his feet. For Carrie, still trapped in her small-town life, he seems like the perfect escape... but what has brought this freshly-minted rock star back to his old life?
And is there more to this new Hale than meets the eye?
I did not enjoy this book. The premise sounded good but I found it a big disappointment. I didn't warm up to the characters and the story itself was very tedious and I really struggled to finish it. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
This was a fun, romantic read! I discovered the author from a Reddit post and decided to download the book for some fun January reading. The characters are well fleshed out and the plot is very down to earth and relatable, which made the love connection and romance feel realistic but with warm, sweet moments. Definitely recommend coupled with a warm fire and a glass of wine!
Extremely entertaining, captivating and interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong, intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Exclusive Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Reread #2 April 23/2024 - this reread is part of my rockstar romance tour this year sprinkled in amongst new reads. I'm having way too much fun as rereading is my favorite sort of reading. I remembered really enjoying this ebook, but I didn't realize how much. There's a grittiness to this second chance story of a musician who revisits the love he left behind. If you've enjoyed Karen Cimms' Love and Madness series, I suspect you'll enjoy this stand alone. It shares the same gritty realism, and imperfect characters striving toward love.
First read: Second Chance, emerging rockstar romance, this book hit on all of my favorite tropes. I love that reading experience when you accidentally happen upon an author you were previously unfamiliar with, but you finish their book in one sitting.... and the writing is rich enough it almost tastes good, and evocative in a way that it slows time while you live a world completely different than your own....and you fall in love with their characters but it reminds you of your own experience of falling in young love...... Hazel's good; she's just that good. Now I feel compelled to find something else she has written.
