The 7th book in the Juniper Grove Mystery Series!

Promising a big announcement, Stuart Hunter invites a small group of friends to a party at his large, rambling house, among them Chief Gilroy and Rachel Stowe. But when one of the partygoers dies screaming Gilroy’s name, Gilroy becomes a suspect in his own department’s murder investigation. Rachel’s fears that someone is trying to target him are confirmed when incriminating evidence is found at the murder scene.

When the mayor removes the chief from the case, Rachel and her friends spring into action. As they attempt to clear Gilroy’s name, Rachel begins to suspect that dark forces from Gilroy’s past are working behind the scenes. Would they go so far as to murder an innocent woman? Or does the answer lie closer to home?

This light, cozy mystery offers a clean read with a female amateur sleuth in a small-town setting. No foul language, sex, gore, or graphic scenes of any kind. It can be read as a standalone, but it will be enjoyed more as part of the series.

'The whole case was beginning to stink like rotten eggs.'

I absolutely adore Karin Kaufman's cozy mystery series, set in the tiny town of Juniper Grove, Colorado. Rachel Stowe, mystery writer, has taken on the task of amateur sleuth, although after solving 7 murder cases, she is getting to be quite an expert. And police chief, James Gilroy is a very admirable man. Add in Rachel's cohorts in the sleuthing business, 60 something Julia and 30 something Holly, and you have all the ingredients for a great read! I loved this one just as much as the others and now # 8 is coming soon! Highly recommended.

I thought of this expression a lot while reading this book "With friends like these who needs enemies?" The partygoers aka suspects in this story are a colorful bunch with secrets to hide. Maurice, the web designing anglophile, was my favorite. I found him very amusing. I have a background in archaeology, so I found the archaeology bits interesting. The covers on this series are super cute. Check this book out if you are into cozy mysteries!

This is my first visit to Juniper Grove, the backdrop for a series of charming cozy mysteries by the author of the popular Anna Denning mystery series. Now that I have become acquainted with the residents, easily accomplished without first reading the previous six offerings, I look forward to discovering more about the town, its occupants, and the Juniper Grove Mystery Gang.

Trap

This is a good story with many twists and turns. The characters were complex and not very likable which I feel was the author's intent.

Just keeps getting better

In the latest book in the Juniper Grove series Chief Gilroy and girlfriend Rachel have been invited to a birthday party at the Hunters house, old friends of the Chief. When they arrive Stuart Hunter seems distracted and not his usual self. The party is for his wife but he seems more interested in insulting and aggravating his guests. Suddenly Stuart tells everyone present at the party that he wants them to see his brand new room dedicated to his medieval collection. Rachel and Gilroy pause at the bottom of the stairs to discuss the motley crew of guests when they hear Mrs. Hunter tell out Gilroy's name and the word no. They rush upstairs only to find Mrs. Hunter stabbed to death. Gilroy goes into cop mode and sends all the suspects downstairs with Rachel after calling for backup. During the investigation a five year pin is found in the murder room with Gilroy's name on it. Suddenly Mr.Hunter is blaming the Chief for the murder. The next day the mayor relieves Gilroy of duty until the murder is solved. Knowing that the Chief is being set up, Rachel, Julia, her new boyfriend Royce, Holly and Officers Underhill and Taylor begin investigating. Will they be able to solve the murder and save the chief. This book has an unusual and clever conclusion that will keep you reading and guessing until the end. This series continues to delight the reader.

Kudos to Karin Kaufman!

Karin Kaufman has become one of my favorite authors. Writing about a mystery writer who solves mysteries in Juniper Grove. I love how she manages to twist, turn, and hairpin curve events so that I'm at a loss to figure out who actually "did the deed". I love authors who can engage the reader & Karin is one who does it so well. You begin to feel like you truly know these "people".
I have read all 7 of the Juniper Grove Mystery Books and highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys a great cozy mystery. I suggest that you read them in order to become familiar with the characters & their lives.
If you like to be led one way & then another, a book that engages you, then these books are for you. Kudos to Karin Kaufman!

An invitation to hell.

Brilliant. An invitation for the Chief to attend a birthday party has our hero and heroine brushing off their glad rags. However the invitation soon turns sour when the hostess and birthday girl is found stabbed to death and the Chief is implicated. Worse he is taken off the case and more and more things keep turning up and pointing the figure at him. Can the couple get to the bizarre truth of what really happened. A great plot and I must admit ed a bit of a twisted one with an ending that I didn't expect. The characters are vivid and make you live things through their eyes. A brilliant read.

Twisted suspects, twisting plot

Who killed the birthday girl, and why? While the suspects are all a bit dodgy, none of them really seem to have a reason to kill her. After all, they hardly know her. This is a tough one for the Juniper Grove amature sleuths, and add in a very short length of time to find the murderer, and you have a great read. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

What a twisted web is woven

An incredible page-turner of a story with many twists and turns that even a spider would get dizzy. Such a fascinating plot and denouement. I really don’t understand how the American system of a mayor having control over the police works because how can they do their job properly and professionally with such political interference? I like our Australian democratic system better.

For some reason, Death Trap was a slower read for me than the other books in the Juniper Grove series. And it was a little similar to At Death’s Door (Book #3) in that someone is murdered in a house full of people. Still a decent read but my least favorite in the series so far.

Way into binge reading this series

Wow, this one kept me reading to the end. While normally set books aside for a while, this one kept me going way past my 'allotted" reading time. Thank you for another wonderful escape from my real world!

Wonderful town with great people

Well developed characters who renew faith in the goodness of people, with a few bad apples to make the story come together.

Another fun, yet complicated, mystery in the town of Juniper Grove. I enjoyed the loyalty dynamics among the three police officers as they--and Rachel and her civilian team--worked to solve the case.

This installment in the series finds Chief Gilroy and Rachel at a very uncomfortable dinner party. After the name of the chief is yelled out and a body found things take an even more bizarre twist. The chief himself is being accused of murder! Rachel and her friends must find out who the real killer is or the chief's reputation and job just might be done for! Lots of twist and turns and still a good read, but not my favorite of the series.
