What's a witch to do when her boss turns up poisoned right after she'd wished him dead?
Witch Destiny Maganti loves working at a tiki bar on the Enchanted Coast, a beach getaway for paranormals. Between delivering drinks to mermaids and serving rare steaks to werewolves, she meets all sorts of interesting people. Plus, as a water witch, she's right at home on the ocean.
The only downside is dealing with her boss, a disgraced angel who thinks the world owes him a living just because of his ancestry. An hour after he publicly humiliates her, he ends up dead. Though her friends know she's innocent, all the evidence points to her.
Can she clear her name before she's kicked off the Enchanted Coast forever?
I was born and raised in the South and even hung my motorcycle helmet in Colorado for a few months. I've always had a touch of wanderlust and have never feared just packing up and going on new adventures, whether in real life or via the pages of a great book.
When I was a little girl, I didn't want to grow up to be a writer—I wanted to raise unicorns and be a superhero. When those gigs fell through, I chose the next best thing: creating my own magical lands filled with adventure, magic, humor, and romance.
I live in Florida with my two dogs and when I'm not writing or reading, I'm racing motorcycles with my taller, more handsome half, hanging out at the beach, or binge-watching anything magical on Netflix.
I'm eternally grateful for all the people who help make my life what is today - friends, readers, family. No woman is an island.

I really enjoyed visiting the resort for paranormal on the Enchanted Coast and meeting Destiny. All of the characters are quirky and paranormal - witches, warlocks, fairies, elves, gorgons and more - which made this a fun cozy mystery. The murder mystery was quickly paced and I never guessed "who done it" until the reveal.

This was fun but it ended so randomly I accused myself of falling asleep and missing something crucial. Then I re-read the ending and it really just chooses to end on a random day where everyone gathers to clap for the main character.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from Cozy Mystery Book Club. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Deadly Daiquiri by Tegan Maher has a water witch working as a tiki bar waitress at a resort.
Can Destiny solve the murder before she's taken in?
Destiny Maganti Destiny Maganti is a water witch who works at a beach resort waitressing at the tiki bar. She loves her life working there despite how terrible her boss happens to be. Destiny is excellent at her job and keeping her customers happy even though, at times, they can get awful. Throughout the story, more about Destiny's background is revealed, and I love how the author did Destiny's background.
Destiny is a great character, and I loved learning about how all of these magical creatures seem to exist while enjoying a vacation at a magical creature resort.
The Mystery Destiny was working at the tiki bar, and after she dropped drinks off at her boss's table with some of his friends, Cassiel keeled over. Before that, Destiny was seen arguing with him, and some other people were arguing with him, but she was the main suspect. Destiny is determined to figure out who actually killed him off before the police take her in to go through their tribunal. I love learning about how different this magic system is and how their law works. Okay, and I have to admit I had no clue who could have done it until it was revealed. Now that I'm sitting here and thinking it over, the clues lined right up to who did it—well played, Ms. Maher.
Four Stars I am giving four stars to The Deadly Daiquiri by Tegan Maher. It is a fabulous read. I honestly wouldn't mind living at the beach year round. Primarily because if you think about it, you can dip your feet into the water whenever you want. Oh, I also recommend this book to anyone who wants an excellent paranormal cozy mystery to solve!
Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of The Deadly Daiquiri by Tegan Maher.
“The Deadly Daiquiri” earns 5/5 Umbrellas…Magically Fun!
Be careful what you wish for…you might be accused of murder!
Destiny Maganti, a water witch, is a cocktail waitress at the tiki bar of a popular paranormal resort destination for mermaids, gorgons, elves, unicorns, and other magical folk vacationing on the shores of the gulf. “Maganti!!” But her boss is making her life challenging. Cassiel (Cass), former Angel of Temperance, has a chip on his shoulder...his wing. Having disgraced his family, he is now the resort’s manager as punishment. Several wonder who is being punished…Cass or those having to deal with him. Well, Karma has a way of butting in at the right time. The right time is heralded by an ear-piecing scream, remnants of a daiquiri pooling on the ground, and Cass slumped lifeless on the table. “So who manned, or womaned, up…” Everyone was looking at Destiny.
Along with a fascinating collection of fanciful characters, we have Tempest (Destiny’s black and white fox familiar) with whom she has a telepathic connection, Blake (executive director of the resort, ninth-level wizard, and former fiancé) with whom she still harbors anger and heartache, Bob (Bigfoot bartender) with whom she is friends, and Michael (Destiny’s older brother and agent with the Paranormal Criminal Investigations Bureau) for whom she has a protective nature. A romantic triangle may also add some tension. Destiny is made the interim resort manager, the optics not the best, but it allows her to go around the resort, ask questions, and gather clues. Blake knows she is well thought of and knows she is valuable to the investigation, but an angel was murdered…this magic is dangerous!
All this and the tropical setting… Tegan Maher has penned an entertaining first book in her Enchanted Coast Magical Mystery series. I personally enjoyed the magic and fanciful characters; it is fun to read, and imagine, all the different creatures: werewolves, fairies, gargoyles, selkies, and such. But it's just a fun, and can easily be overlooked for those less interested in the paranormal theme. Don't shy away. You will miss out on a well-written narrative, clever mystery, edge-of-your-beach-towel excitement, more than a few giggles, a delightful sidekick familiar, and rich characters with very human attributes. Some issues are left unresolved and might be used as a running mystery throughout the series. Fine with me, I'm eager to join the fairies again on the beach with a tropical drink in hand…no daiquiri, please!
I really liked this book. I LOVED the setting and the characters. The author did an outstanding job at creating this world. It’s competing with another of my top favorite worlds. I would love to live here. The mystery of the murder was so interesting and I couldn’t figure out who did it. However, the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of how it all wrapped up. Don’t take this as a bad ending. It was great. It just wasn’t something black and white as far as a killing in the human realm. But I can see how it could be complicated with immortal creatures and magic. I can’t wait to read the next book. Hope these are made into audiobooks.
I love reading stories of witches, paranormal creatures and mystery...a little romance thrown in the mix always adds the perfect mix to take me away from my life into a wonderful fantasy world. Destiny the main character is the kind of girl I could easily call friend...she's a waitress at a tiki bar in a beach resort...."calgon take me away". The writer had me sitting at the resort watching the story unfold. I totally enjoyed reading this book...and can't wait to read the next.
The book was pretty good. I liked the story line, there were a few grammatical and detail errors, but not enough to be distracting. But the ending! What happened? So may loose ends! It’s almost like a chapter (or two) s missing! Who actually killed Cass? Was it the other angel? It’s really not clear.
The Deadly Daiquiri is the first book in the "Enchanted Coast" magical mystery series, which is a spin-off of...some other series. I guess. Story is told in first person by Destiny Maganti, a water witch who works at a tiki bar on the Enchanted Coast.
As a vacation spot for paranormals, the Enchanted Coast is a wonderful working environment for Destiny. She enjoys her co-workers and customers. The only blight is her bitter boss, the disgraced angel Cass. After yet another argument between them, Cass falls over dead. Since Destiny served the drink that killed him, she becomes the primary suspect. She needs to clear her name, because the punishment for killing an angel is death. Fortunately, Destiny has friends and family to help, along with the hot werewolf, Colin. She isn't quite sure if Colin is friend or foe, but when push comes to shove, she may need to rely on him.
It was a fun story. Perfectly "paranormal lite". I liked Destiny as a character, and her talking fox familiar was unique. I appreciated that Destiny had such a strong support system around her. The ending was a bit lackluster, however, if only because the killer was someone pretty much out of left field. It annoys me when a character is slowing piecing together clues and nailing down motives, only to get blindsided by who really "dunnit". Hmpf.
Mostly fun, and I'd read more in the series. Four stars.
Rating: DNF at Chapter 8 Genre: Paranormal cozy mystery
🌊 Set in a paranormal beach resort.
🍷Features a yeti, gorgons, fae, mermaids, selkies, an angel (briefly) and a water witch.
🌊 I liked her sassy fox familiar, Tempest.
What didn't work for me: 🚫 There weren't too many descriptions. I never got a solid description of the main character nor most of the side characters. It was mostly just action.
🚫 Huge cast of characters. While I appreciate the wide variety of paranormal creatures, this went overboard and it was hard to keep up with who was who.
🚫 There are a few typos and grammatical errors in this book. It was distracting from the storyline.
🚫 Some continuity errors as well. Why would a water witch be able to use electricity on her skin to shock a gargoyle grabbing her wrists? Shouldn't her powers be restricted to water only?
🌟 Overall, this story had potential with the setting and wide variety of magical beings but it fell flat with the lack of descriptions. It never felt like I was actually there. Instead, it was action scene after action scene, which wasn't very cozy. It feels like AI writing since AI can't describe things.
Eight chapters in and I still don't have a description of the bar nor the main characters. I won't recommend it nor read anything else by this author.
This was quite an entertaining read, however I think I must get an encyclopedia on mystical beings. Because this book is full of witches, werewolves, merpeople, angels, unicorns, foxes, and many, many more. At first it took me a bit to get in the swing of things, but then the story and the mystery involved became interesting. Destiny (water witch) used to date Blake (the manager of this magical resort), but after he admitted to kissing someone else, she can't seem to get over it. She works as a bar waitress and the bartender (a out of favor angel) is always rude to her. Well, he drops dead, Destiny cleans up the area and gets some of the toxic ingredient that killed him on her apron. All of a sudden she is the #1 suspect. A new and mysterious guest, Colin (werewolf) takes an interest in Destiny, but she is not sure of his intentions. Destiny's brother, Michael, is high up in the magical world and works to get her name cleared. There is much more to the story, so you should read it, but be prepared to work overtime to keep your characters straight. And I look forward to reading the next title.
At a beach resort for all paranormals, witch Destiny and her fox familiar Tempest, live and work at the Enchanted Coast resort. Des is a water witch and is happy to serve the paranormals who frequent the Tiki bar on the water. Her boss, a fallen angel, doesn't like her much and the feeling is mutual. When he falls over dead into his mango drink, everyone thinks Destiny poisoned him. Together with her fox familiar, and her brother, she must find out who really killed him or she will be executed. Paranormal law and especially dealing with an Angel is very severe!
I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of creatures who came to the beach, and the way Des interacted with them all. From gargoyles to gargons, the Angel King to mermaids, there were so many fun paranormals who managed to get along in this enchanted place. When Des goes to see her brother outside of the resort, we see a slip of the seedier side of paranormal beings. The author has a rich imagination that makes for a fun beginning of a series. I am anxious to read the next book and see where here creativity takes us.
Destiny Maganti's life is already so full of responsiblity working at the Enchanted Beach Resort's Tiki Bar. Life was perfect with her fiancee Blake, until it wasn't. You know what they say, " You can have a million good days and one bad day, will do you in."
Fastforward to her present dilemma of dealing with Cass the ass, I mean Angel, on a daily basis; things can get a little stressful. After a much deserved screaming match and an empty threat, life at the tiki gets a bit sticky.
No matter how many people had it in for Cass, Des, seems to be at the top of the suspect list. With the assistance of a suspicios Werewolf Colin Moore, her brother Micheal, her two-timing ex Blake, and a whole community of celestial beings the truth will unfold. Will it come forth before the magical court hands down a deadly sentence?
A great read and I love that the Author Tegan Maher adds a little more backstory for The Witches of Keyhole Lake series.
Book 1 in the Enchanted Coast Magical Mystery. a short, fun read with many kinds of mythical creatures as characters in the book. a witch named Destiny loves working at the tiki bar on the Enchanted Coast which is a getaway on the beach for paranormals. She loves her job and meeting all kinds of different people and paranormal characters. Although she hates her boss, who is a disgraced angel - an abusive drunk. Right after he excoriates her in public, she wishes he was dead...and shortly thereafter he is dead.!
Destiny is the prime suspect. Although her friends know she is innocent she has a short time to prove that before a punishment as harsh as death is determined.
A very entertaining read with fun characters and an excellent mystery. This is different than Tegan Maher's usual paranormal stories but very much a fun walk on the wild side! Looking forward to the second book.
Great stuff!! As a water witch she is happiest working by any water. That's why her job of waitress at the tikki bar in the supernatural resort suits her down to the ground. In fact she has already turned down the manager's job which led her to have a fallen angel as her manager. A Temperance Angel that didn't know the meaning of the word temperance. After another argument, with him, and in front of the whole bar, he falls down dead. What can kill an angel? Why is she the number 1 suspect? What was he doing with the gargoyles? A wonderful plot but please note that the killer isn't revealed in this one. I have suspicions on who that might be but nothing concrete. The characters are vivid, lively and entertaining plus the familiars add a certain snark to the dialogue. Next please!
A veritable parade of quirky paranormal beings appear in this debut of the Enchanted Coast Magical Mystery series. The author's descriptive style of writing served her well in bringing the characters to life! In every chapter, there's some new hilarity to be discovered - from laugh-out- loud funny (blood wine for the vamps Cabern-A) to tongue-in-cheek (Charlie who owns the Chocolatte Shop) - the author's imagination was on full display in this story. I love the cute cover art - it definitely puts you in the mood before you even crack the cover! The book was easy, breezy, entertaining, magical, just plain fun - I was "enchanted" by this book and didn't want to put it down. Destiny is a great protagonist and I can't wait to read about her next adventure. It was obvious the author had a blast writing this book and I had a blast reading it!
Destiny told her boss to drop dead, five minutes later he did! The boss was an angel, a real jerk, and Des is a water witch, they work at The Enchanted Coast, a resort for magical beings. Of course, Des is the number one suspect, and with the help of her brother and a werewolf lawyer, sets out to prove her innocence.
Des is a full-fledged character that is sassy and I fell in love with her as she investigates.
Who murdered the angel? and why? Who is after Destiny? What is Collin, the werewolf, doing at the resort? Does he have something to do with the murder? And, why is he hanging around Des?
Nice weave of mystery and subtle clues that jump out at you at the end. The characters are mostly fully formed, or will be in further books.
This fun and sassy paranormal cozy mystery doesn't disappoint! It hit all of the right notes for me.
I loved the paranormal aspects Tegan Maher used and the sprinkles of humor and Southern charm made it all perfect. Most of all the mystery kept me guessing! It left me needing more, exactly how I love my books.
Characters were excellent, especially Destiny, and the world building was perfect. I especially pay attention to world building in paranormal books because I want to feel like I'm there. With this book it made me want to pack my bags and go to that resort!
5 stars for a fun, sassy and captivating read! Highly recommend.
I hate starting new series (especially at Book 1) when most of, or all of, the next installment is not available for downloading to read. I read so much that by the time Book 2 is released in August I will have already forgotten about it or I will have forgotten the plot to this book. I much prefer finding a series to read when all the books have been released so I can binge read through them all. Having said that, I would not be wanting to read Book 2 if this book hadn't caught my interest though I barely got to know the characters before the book ended.
Welcome to the Enchanted Coast: a resort hotel for paranormals. Barmaid, and water witch, Destiny Maganti, is up to her neck in hot water when her boss, a fallen angel is murdered. Having been charged with murder, it’s up to Destiny to find the real killer before she’s sentenced to die. Will she prevail? Read the book and find out!
BTW, Destiny is the cousin of my buddy, Cordelia, the sheriff of Castle’s Bluff, and a witch/werewolf hybrid. So count on some major ass kicking action.
And Tegan, you know I love you, sugar, but please finish the next Cordelia book before they ship me to the old folks home!!
Destiny is a real charmer, her workmates are a likeable bunch, and Tempest, her fox familiar, is a great addition. The world-building is imaginative (not-so-angelic angels explains a lot), and a Sphinx for a companion is definitely a new one!The mystery is convoluted in all the best ways, with motives and suspects to spare, which makes the killer's reasoning such a flat disappointment. The reason for the great interest in Destiny is obvious; other questions are much more intriguing. Why is Destiny "stuck" on the island, and how did she come to be there? Is there something more to Blake's betrayal? This reader certainly looks forward to discovering more!
What can I say? When a book starring all paranormal creatures in a resort that can't be seen by humans starts to feel real to a reader, you've got a hit on your hands. I was trying to picture these creatures sitting around the bar in the water because I've been to a resort that had that type of bar and we would sit on cement stools in the water to have our drinks. I wanted to be at this Enchanted Coast resort because I was having so much fun reading this book. Needless to say, I didn't want it to end. I NEED MORE!!!
An extraordinary supernatural cozy mystery with an awesome cast of characters. A beach resort on the gulf coast hidden from the normal world or supernaturals go on vacation. Follow along as our characters stumble upon and find mysteries murders in trouble. As they solve it and discover who is behind it you will all be entertained. Written by an author who writes several other series in this magical world. Check them all out. Definitely entertaining and fun reading
Destiny works at a beach resort that caters to paranormal customers kind of similar to Hotel Transylvania. I loved all the creatures that were in the story. Destiny is accused of killing her boss who was also a angel and should be hard to is a hard creature to kill. Destiny discovered several secrets as she is trying to unravel the mystery of who killed her boss since now she is the prime suspect. This is a fun paranormal cozy mystery, but I wish there was more of a true ending to who actually killed him.
Took some time to get into but we got rolling good finally...
It took me quite a while to get into this book but once I finally did, it was great just like all her others!! I love the fact that they are all tied together one little way or another too. And beware, this series has Novelettes or Shorts to look for in between some of the main books! I had to go back and do a lot of Googleing on my Greek Mythology and their creators but that was partly for my own extra curiosity, Tegan did a pretty good job explaining things.
I give it a solid 3.5 stars for the concept, a 3 for the story/mystery. Destiny is a cousin to Cora (the witch/wolf sheriff from Emerald Cove) and is the manager at this hotel. When her boss (an Angel) she constantly butts head with and who she wishes would drop dead, does I’m fact drop dead, she becomes a suspect. With her brother, her familiar, and a werewolf lawyer all trying to help, Destiny sets out to clear her name. There’s cross over characters from a couple of the author’s other series, and the plot is medium paced. It’s a quick and light read, and not a bad start to the series.
I received this book as a freebie in return for an honest review. This was such a fun story, and how much would I love to go there for a holiday lol! It was a really enjoyable read, and I had no idea who the murderer was until the end. The main character, Destiny, was really likeable - well I guess nearly all the characters were. The main one who wasn't ended up dead, so you didn't have to put up with them all the way through the story. A must read for those who like a good paranormal story, murder mystery and love story. Looking forward to reading more of the series.
None of her questions were answered. You hemmed and hawed over the murder detailed that as a suspect she should have been told. All these officials and no resolve. Blake and his answers. Werewolf boy toy? Clean up your byline. Finish this story before you hurry to the next carryover to continue is unnecessary and annoying. All these characters will continue on but some solutions help this story end and remember..... Things change.
Fun whimsical cozy mystery.want to find out more about
I really enjoyed this book . Very different setting for mystery cozy, the location of a resort for the supernatural people a whole new world that I want to visit again. Characters I loved them Sam the big foot bartender Colin werewolf attorney . A different take on this supernatural beings set at beach resort tiki bar on and guarding status that is spinx. how neat is that.
Now I really want to go to a beach resort, even if it isn't a magical one like Destiny works at! I still want to know what possible "explanation" Blake could have for what he did prior to events of the book, but I'm nosey like that. I was surprised by the murderer, but that's a good thing for a mystery! I'll be checking out the rest of the series and most likely other works by the author as well.
