The Riverton Ice Chips know a thing or two about time travel. “Playing like a girl was a good thing” (95).
This book is a gem for young hockey players, intended for the ages of 6-8, but could be read to any age close to that by a guardian. The text is reasonably sized and there’s pictures. Even adult hockey fans would like this. In my opinion, you don’t have to have read the first two Ice Chips book to read this one, but there are a few spoilers relating to the first two books in this one!
This book is a gem for young hockey players, intended for the ages of 6-8, but could be read to any age close to that by a guardian. The text is reasonably sized and there’s pictures. Fantastic Canadian middle grade hockey series! This book focused on female hockey and I appreciated this a lot! Much like the first two books, young players on the Ice Chips hockey team travel through time and interact with a young to be Canadian hockey superstar! Such a fun, cute series with diversity and inclusion within the characters, including a youth player with a prosthetic leg. Such a fun series for young hockey fans!

This entertaining story about some young hockey playing friends is the third book in the series. I haven't read the earlier books.
In the first book the friends, both girls and boys who play on a mixed team, discover their hockey rink has a wormhole, a portal to the past. Using this "time machine" they visit a different hockey great in each story.
This book focuses on the team goalie, Swift. She is a girl with a prosthetic leg who chose to play regular hockey, not sledge hockey. She is a superb goalie and is asked to play on a fledgling all girl team that is being formed. But she doesn't want to do so because then she would have to play with her rival and arch-enemy Blitz.
In this book, Swift and her friends travel back to the 1988 Calgary Olympics where they see Eddie the Eagle perform on the ski jump and meet a ten year old girl who loves hockey who goes by the nickname of "Chicken" and who helps them improve their game. Chicken, of course, turns out to be a notable Canadian hockey legend who they do not recognize at the time.
The time machine hockey rink is a bit of a mystery to me. I may have to read the first book in the series to see how it works.
